The Chairman of the Ekiti State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Mrs Rhoda Ojo, says the education sector in the state has not witnessed as much intervention as it has recorded in the last four years under Gov. Biodun Oyebanji's administration.

Ojo said this in her opening remarks at the commission's statutory plenary meeting, held at its headquarters in Ado-Ekiti.

She said the various policies of the administration in the sector had contributed to the zero incidence of malpractice recorded during the just-concluded external examinations, as well as improved government-labour relations.

Ojo listed some of the interventions to include recruitment of personnel, regular release of grants to public schools, and prompt payment of salaries.

She said these and other measures introduced by the governor had entrenched relative peace and fostered a harmonious relationship among stakeholders in the education sector.

Briefing participants on newly introduced Federal Government policies in the sector, the TESCOM chairman disclosed that schools whose teachers were not fully registered with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) would no longer be allowed to participate in national examinations from the next academic session.

In his welcome address, the commission's Permanent Secretary, Mr Michael Boluwade, urged participants to make robust contributions to the discussions, noting that their input would inform policy formulation for the development of education in the state.

Boluwade commended the leadership of trade and professional unions in public schools for their contributions to the advancement of education in Ekiti, and urged them to sustain their cooperation with the government and other stakeholders to further improve the sector.

Political activities are gathering momentum in Ekiti State as the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) intensifies preparations for the forthcoming party congresses and mobilises its structures ahead of the December local government elections.

The APC leadership met with the party’s chairmanship and councillorship candidates across the state at the Osuntokun Government House Pavilion. The meeting brought together APC chairmanship candidates for the local governments and LCDAs, councillorship candidates, party chairmen across the local governments and LCDAs, as well as the 177 ward chairmen in the state.

The meeting was chaired by the APC State Chairman, Barrister Shola Eleshin, alongside other leaders of the party and members of the State Congress Committee.

Addressing the gathering, the party leadership charged the candidates and grassroots structures to immediately commence mobilisation and preparations for the forthcoming local government elections.

The Secretary of the State Congress Committee, Rt. Hon. Karounwi Oladapo, urged the candidates to work hard to consolidate the gains recorded by the party in the recent governorship election.

“We should work and justify the votes we had during the governorship election and even surpass the previous results,” he said.

Also speaking, former APC State Chairman, Chief Jide Awe, described the local government election as a serious political contest, expressing confidence in the party’s grassroots structure to secure victory.

“Grassroots election is a very serious election. We have a better structure to defeat the opposition in Ekiti,” Awe said.

Speaking on the forthcoming party congresses, the APC State Chairman, Barrister Shola Eleshin, stressed the importance of getting the zoning arrangements right at the grassroots to prevent avoidable disputes and ensure a smooth process.

“We should perfect zoning at the grassroots in order to avoid problems at the grassroots,” he said.

The party leadership also reminded members that loyalty and discipline would be important considerations in the selection of individuals for various party positions during the congresses.

They emphasised that those entrusted with party positions must be committed to the ideals of the APC and demonstrate the loyalty and discipline required to strengthen the party’s structures at the grassroots.

On internal grievances, Rt. Hon. Taiwo Olatunbosun assured party members that the APC had established internal mechanisms to address complaints and disagreements that might arise during the congresses and other party activities.

“The party has structured its internal mechanism to address grievances,” he said.

The meeting marked another step in the APC’s preparations for both the forthcoming party congresses and the December local government elections, with party leaders urging candidates and ward structures to return to their respective areas, strengthen internal coordination and commence immediate engagement with the electorate.

The party leadership also emphasised the need for unity, loyalty, discipline and effective grassroots mobilisation as the APC moves to consolidate its structures and retain its dominance across the local governments and LCDAs in Ekiti State.

The Chairman of Cavista Holdings and Agbeyewa Farms, Mr. Niyi John Olajide, has reiterated that Agbeyewa is being developed as an emerging agricultural hub focused on large-scale, sustainable production during a recent visit to the farm in Ipao-Ekiti.

Inspecting ongoing field operations and newly acquired 110-horsepower Zoomline tractors, Mr. Olajide emphasized the need for productivity, efficiency, and full equipment utilization: "What we are building here is bigger than just farming cassava. We are building an agricultural business that must be productive, efficient and sustainable," he noted.

The Chairman was received by Managing Director/CEO Mr. Seyi Oska Aiyeleso, alongside senior management. The Rector of Ekiti State Polytechnic, Isan-Ekiti (EKSPOLY), Dr. Sunday Ajeigbe, says Governor Biodun Oyebanji's heavy investment at the institution to deliver quality teaching, research and development is yielding results.

The Rector said that Governor Oyebanji's education reform and direct intervention has ensured that the polytechnic fulfilled its mandate in the area of teaching, research and institutional capacity.

Ajeigbe made the disclosure on Tuesday, in Ado-Ekiti, during the interactive S'etigbo multicast, anchored by the Bureau of Community Communications, where he discussed key developments, achievements and activities of the polytechnic.

According to him, "Our governor has done so much for the institution. Just like I mentioned in one forum, the first thing he did is to stabilise even the institution. When you talk of stability of an institution, the first thing that comes to mind is when you empower an institution to fulfil its mandate. 

"Our staff are well taken care of, his government in 2024 increased our subventions and multiplied it by two. When the minimum wage came into being, he was one of the first governors to implement it. Because of the stability, we are able to plan ahead within the mandate that was given to us."

He explained that the polytechnic has partnered private organisations and other institutions to promote innovation, practical learning and entrepreneurship among students noting that the partnerships were aimed at equipping graduates with the necessary skills to become self-reliant and productive members of society.

Ajeigbe said the institution is making tremendous progress and has gained recognition among polytechnics in Nigeria for its commitment to academic and technical excellence.

The Rector further commended Governor Oyebanji’s administration for demonstrating strong commitment to the development of higher education in Ekiti State stressing that the administration’s support has contributed to industrial harmony and created an environment conducive to learning and teaching.

He noted that the standard of the institution is largely reflected in the quality of its facilities, learning environment and graduates adding that the improved infrastructure and academic facilities at EKSPOLY has continued to enhance the image of the institution and attract more students.

To fortify the people-oriented policies and social protection agenda of the Ekiti State Government under the dynamic leadership of Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, the Chairman of Ajoni Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Amb. (Prince) Michael Ogungbemi, FCPA, has distributed bags of food palliatives to 800 vulnerable residents and less-privileged  across the five wards and 72 polling units in the LCDA.

The intervention, which is aimed at complementing the social safety-net initiatives of the Oyebanji administration, was designed to provide immediate relief to families facing economic challenges and help cushion the effects of the rising cost of essential commodities.

Speaking on the initiative while distributing the consumables on Tuesday, the Chairman acknowledged the commitment of Governor Oyebanji to improving the welfare of Ekiti people through deliberate social intervention programmes and the provision of resources to support vulnerable citizens across the State.

According to Ogungbemi, the distribution represents the grassroots expression of the Governor’s broader vision of a government that prioritises not only infrastructure and economic development, but also the welfare, dignity and wellbeing of ordinary citizens.

He noted that the intervention was deliberately extended across all 72 polling units to ensure that the benefits reach the grassroots equitably, particularly households and individuals who are most in need of support.

“The welfare of our people remains central to our administration. We appreciate the visionary leadership of our Governor, His Excellency, Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, for his commitment to social protection and for making resources available to support interventions that directly impact our people. At the local level, we are committed to ensuring that the benefits of these people-oriented policies reach those who need them most,” the Chairman stated.

The Chairman further emphasised that the intervention should be viewed as part of the collective efforts of the State and local governments to mitigate economic hardship and strengthen the social safety net for vulnerable citizens.

He reiterated his administration's commitment to working in alignment with the policies and programmes of the Oyebanji administration, particularly those targeted at poverty reduction, food security, grassroots empowerment, social inclusion and improved living standards.

The distribution of the 800 bags of food palliatives therefore represents another practical demonstration of the administration's commitment to responsive and inclusive governance in Ajoni LCDA.

The initiative also reinforces the growing partnership between the State Government and local government administrations in translating the Oyebanji administration's people-centred agenda into tangible benefits at the grassroots.

By ensuring that every ward and polling unit is reached, the Ajoni LCDA intervention reflects the principle that no community, household or vulnerable citizen should be left behind in the drive to build a stronger and more prosperous Ekiti State.

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji has approved the appointment of Mrs. Titilayo Olarike Olayinka, as the new Accountant General of the State.

The appointment, which is with immediate effect, came barely 24 hours after her retirement as Accountant General/ Permanent Secretary in the State Civil Service, upon attaining the mandatory retirement age of 60.

Mrs Olayinka served meritoriously as Accountant General of the State between November 28, 2019 and August 24, 2026.

Her appointment underscores Governor Oyebanji’s resolve to engage highly competent hands to man strategic positions as preparations for his second term administration garther momentum.

A fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (FCA), and Associate member, Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (ACTI), Mrs. Olayinka holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and a Master of Business Administration (MBA). She has extensive experience in the private sector, public sector and international development.

She is widely credited for her strategic contributions to  Ekiti State’s improved standing in accountability, transparency and fiscal management over the past six years and the attendant positive outcomes recognized by reputable bodies and institutions.

This include, among others, Ekiti State’s Number one ranking in the BudgIT State Fiscal Transparency League for Q2, Q3, Q4 2024 and Q1, Q2, Q3 and Q4 2025. The State was also adjudged one of the leading states in both local government budget transparency as well as Subnational Audit Efficacy Index by PLSI. The State was also rated among the top 10 states in the Federation that published detailed and accessible budget information for all its local Government Areas (LGAs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs).

These recognitions reflect strong competence, transparency, effective auditing processes, and prudent financial management.

Olayinka, in her new role, has the mandate of the Governor to set up a comprehensive training programme for accountants across the State Civil Service, aimed at enhancing professional capacity.

With the appointment, Ekiti State has joined other states, including Enugu, Osun and Akwa Ibom, that have engaged seasoned retired Accountants General to head the important office of Accountant General of the State, while other states like Kwara, Ebonyi, Imo, Abia and Katsina have sourced professionals outside the civil service to man their respective offices of State Accountant General.

Mrs Olayinka will be bringing to her new assignment a wealth of experience in accounting, auditing, project management, expenditure control and procurement.

An alumna of the Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti; Achievers University, Owo; and Ondo State University, Akungba Akoko, Olayinka became a chartered accountant of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) in May 1993, and was admitted as a Fellow of the Institute in 2006.  She had stints with some reputable accounting firms before joining the public service as an Accountant with Owena Mass Transportation Company, Akure in February 1992. She served as Group Internal Auditor/ Chief Accountant at Ondo State Investment holding Company, Akure between January 1998 and March 1999.

Between April 1999 and 2003, she served as State Programme Accountant for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). At different times she held senior accounting positions in some key MDAs- Ministry of Health, Ekiti State Project Financial Management Unit (World Bank), Ministry of Information and the State Universal basic Education Board (SUBEB). She later rose to become the Deputy Accountant General in the Office of Accountant General before her elevation as Accountant General/Permanent Secretary in November 2019, a position from which she retired on August 24, 2026.

Governor Oyebanji, while congratulating Mrs Olayinka on her new appointment as the Accountant General of the State, urged her to continue to serve with greater distinction and dedication. He also commended her for her previous meritorious service to the State.
