Rising Drug Abuse Threat: Ekiti Intensifies Campaign as Stakeholders Demand Rehab Centres, Stronger Family Role.

Rising Drug Abuse Threat: Ekiti Intensifies Campaign as Stakeholders Demand Rehab Centres, Stronger Family Role.

Worried by the growing impact of substance abuse on families and communities, stakeholders in Ekiti State have called for urgent preventive measures, including the establishment of rehabilitation centres, as the government steps up advocacy to curb the menace.

The call came during the “BAO for Healthy Families Outreach” held at the King’s Palace Town Hall in Efon-Alaaye, where government officials, health experts, traditional rulers and community leaders highlighted the dangers of drug abuse and the need for collective action.

Speaking at the event, Governor Biodun Oyebanji, represented by his Chief of Staff, Mr Niyi Adebayo, described substance abuse as a major societal problem that has ruined many lives and families.

He urged parents to be vigilant, especially when their children exhibit unusual behaviour, noting that timely intervention could prevent avoidable consequences.

In her welcome address, the programme facilitator and Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs Olapeju Babafemi, said the outreach was aimed at addressing the far-reaching consequences of substance abuse, which she described as a serious public health issue and social challenge.

She explained that the initiative, organised in collaboration with the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Dayo Apata (SAN), aligns with the Oyebanji administration’s focus on human capital development and family wellbeing.

Mrs Babafemi stressed that substance abuse leads to health crises, broken homes, disrupted education, and increased crime, but noted that recovery remains possible with proper intervention and support.

Providing medical insights, a Consultant Gastroenterologist, Prof. Deji Ajayi, warned that drug abuse could result in severe health complications such as addiction, brain damage, cancers of the liver, lungs, and digestive system, as well as mental health disorders and suicide.

He advocated the establishment of rehabilitation centres in Ekiti State, stressing that prevention remains the most effective strategy in tackling the crisis.

Also speaking, a Clinical Psychologist, Dr Dotun Ajiboye, explained that prolonged use of alcohol and psychoactive substances alters brain function, leading to dependency, impaired judgement and emotional instability.

He noted that substance abuse often triggers domestic violence, neglect and economic hardship, thereby perpetuating cycles of vulnerability, and emphasised the need for early intervention and psychological support.

An Addiction Physician, Dr Abayomi Oshatimi, highlighted that effective treatment requires structured approaches involving detoxification, therapy and medication, adding that recovery is gradual and requires patience and sustained support.

He also called for expanded access to rehabilitation services and the reduction of stigma, which discourages many victims from seeking help.

In his remarks, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Dayo Apata (SAN), described substance abuse as “the mother of all abuses,” noting that it destroys individuals mentally, physically, spiritually and financially.

He recalled instances where drug abuse denied applicants employment opportunities, stressing that rescuing the younger generation requires collective efforts and sustained public enlightenment.

Mr Apata also appreciated Governor Oyebanji and his wife, Dr Olayemi Oyebanji, as well as the Alaaye of Efon Kingdom and other stakeholders for their support of the initiative. He commended the Women Affairs Commissioner for championing the programme.

The State Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Mr Sunday Aina, expressed concern about the absence of a rehabilitation centre in the state and called on the government to urgently establish one.

He noted that drug abuse is a global problem linked to crime and social instability, adding that tackling it requires collaboration among parents, communities and relevant agencies.

Speaking on behalf of the Efon Development League, the former Permanent Secretary of the Ekiti State Ministry of Information, Mr Kola Ajumobi, assured that the group would incorporate substance abuse awareness into its youth education programmes.

Also contributing, the Head of Service, Dr Folakemi Olomojobi, and the former Commissioner for Culture, Arts and Tourism, Chief Ronke Okusanya, described the programme as timely, stressing that involvement in hard drugs is incompatible with a successful future and urging parents to monitor their children closely.

The Alaaye of Efon, Oba Emmanuel Adesanya Aladejare, commended the organisers and pledged continued support for enlightenment initiatives aimed at building a progressive and healthy society.

Similarly, the Chief Whip of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Hon. Bose Olowokere, lauded the initiative and assured that such programmes would continue to receive support and be sustained.

The event also had in attendance key government officials, including the Commissioner for Works, Hon. Sola Adebayo; Special Adviser on Special Education and Social Inclusion, Princess Adetoun Agboola; Special Adviser/Director General, Office of Transformation and Service Delivery, Dr. John Moyo Ekundayo; Dr. Olamide Obe, who represented the Commissioner for Health; and the Chairman of Efon Local Government, Hon. Segun Ezekiel Afolabi.

Other participants were market women, students, transport workers, artisans, civil society groups and security agencies.

Stakeholders unanimously agreed that addressing substance abuse requires a multi-sectoral approach involving government, families and communities, with renewed calls for policies that prioritise prevention, treatment and rehabilitation.

Ekiti Gov Poll: Celestial Church Declares Support for Oyebanji, Deputy.

Ekiti Gov Poll: Celestial Church Declares Support for Oyebanji, Deputy.
...To hold statewide revival ahead of poll.

As a way of demonstrating clear  fraternity with one of their members in government, Celestial Church of Christ in Ekiti State, has declared readiness to back the re-election of Governor Biodun Oyebanji and his Deputy, Chief (Mrs)  Monisade Afuye, in the June 20 governorship election.

The church members expressed joy over the performance rating of Governor Oyebanji and the way he had  operated frictionlessly with Mrs Afuye, who is  a top ranking  member of the church, since the advent of the government on October 16, 2022.

Besides total endorsement of the governor, the church leaders, promised to hold a statewide revival and thanksgiving to offer prayers and supplications for Oyebanji and his  Deputy to emerge victorious in the poll and for Ekiti to witness an election devoid  of crisis and bloodshed on June 20.

The CCC gave the declaration on Tuesday, during a courtesy  visit by a powerful delegation of church leaders to the office of the Deputy Governor, in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State Capital.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, a high profile church member and former Ekiti State Acting Governor, Rt Hon. Tope Ademiluyi, disclosed that the entire celestial church family are proud of the outstanding humility and loyalty being  displayed by the Deputy governor.

Ademiluyi said the support for Oyebanji/Afuye joint ticket didn't stem solely from the deputy governor's membership of the church, but for the performance the two leaders have demonstrated in their first term, that was widely adjudged superlative by Ekiti residents.

"We are very proud of the Deputy Governor as a member of the celestial Church of Christ, ditto Governor Biodun Oyebanji. In fact, the two of you are a perfect match for governance. Everybody knows that the two of you are well behaved and humble individuals.

"We are happy that you have done well and nobody has ever had any cause to settle any rift between you. We have been in politics in this state for a while and we knew the happenings in the past. Your government has done well to the extent that the opposition was giving you credit and saluting you.

"In Ekiti today, nobody is being forced to endorse your second term ambition. It was being given freely. This is a hallmark of leadership.

"We are assuring you that on June 20, all the Celestial Church members that have reached adulthood will file out to vote for you. Your first term has been so excellent that the people were begging you to come and serve again. You have done well and we are confident that your second term will be better".

Speaking for the youth wing of the church, Leader Yomi Oso, clarified that members haven't committed any grave blunder for the endorsement, saying it was a clear way of supporting one of their own and show solidarity to a government that has performed creditably well.

Oso said the delegation comprises all the existing parishes in the state, which he said underscored how united the members were in their backing for the governor and his deputy.

In her submission, a member of the church and the Director General of the Ekiti State Bureau of Community Communication, Mrs Mary Oso Omotoso, added that the endorsement was freely given and not by coercion, saying other similar actions had been taken by some churches who have interest in the governor's performance.

"The vision behind this  is for Celestial Church members to show solidarity with one of their own. The Deputy Governor, Mrs Monisade Afuye is a mother-in-celestial, who has done admirably well. We can't afford to abandon her.

"We are not stopping at that, we will continue to help this government with prayers and that is the essence of the statewide prayers and thanksgiving that we are planning for the government".

In his exhortation at the parley, the leader of the delegation, Assistant Most Superior Evangelist Akinola Abraham Aladeseye,  appealed to the two leaders to continue to embrace love in their leadership, warning that no nation can grow when people are locked in perpetual enmity, acrimony and crisis .

Evangelist Aladeseye stated that the proposed statewide revival and prayers would attract members across the 16 local governments and would be a congregation of anointed church members and veritable platform to intercede for Ekiti's liberation and greatness under Governor Oyebanji's leadership.

Commending the celestial Church for the solidarity, the Deputy Governor, Mrs Afuye, declared readiness to serve selflessly, describing the endorsement as an impetus that would make her work more assiduously and committedly for radical transformation of the state.

Mrs Afuye promised not to betray the confidence reposed in her by the celestial Church nationally, saying she was quite aware of the high expectations from her spiritual leaders, which she vowed never to dash.

The Deputy Governor stated that her boss has ensured religious equality and tolerance since ascension of office, pledging that the government won't discriminate against anyone on account of  religious inclination.

"I am indeed joyous to be in your midst today. In fact, I appreciate this recognition for me and my boss. That I am part of you is a glory to the celestial Church in Ekiti and Nigeria. Governor Oyebanji honours and values your support and what you are doing today, you are really making history.

"The governor is not just doing well because he knows it all, it is your prayers that have sustained us this far. I beg you, go back to your individual churches and continue to pray for the success of this government. We are for you and the entire Ekiti citizens.

"I am proud to be part of you. Nobody can be listening to preachings in celestial churches and messed up if given any position in government. I am assuring you, I won't disappoint you. On behalf of the governor, we appreciate this support and solidarity", she added.

2027: Ekiti is Secured for Tinubu, Oyebanji Boasts.

2027: Ekiti is Secured for Tinubu, Oyebanji Boasts.
....as President's support group distributes 1,600 bags of rice.

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, has boasted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will win the state with massive votes in the impending  2027 presidential poll, saying the  victory will be secured  on account of landmark projects and juicy  appointments he allotted to Ekiti that have impacted positively on people's lives.

Oyebanji was elated that the solid collaboration between his government and the federal government is mutually beneficial, advising Ekiti residents to continually back the President to ramp up such benefits and ensure they continue unabated.

The Governor spoke in Ado Ekiti, on Monday, during the flag off of the distribution of 1600 bags of rice to the residents, by a pro-Tinubu group "Renewed Hope Ambassadors" to galvanize support for President Tinubu and Governor Oyebanji.

Those captured as beneficiaries from the food palliatives were majorly traders, people with disabilities, low income earners, drivers, civil servants, youth groups, among others

Speaking at the occasion, Governor Oyebanji, represented by his Deputy, Chief (Mrs) Monisade Afuye, applauded the Renewed Hope Ambassadors for its steely commitment to the growth of the All Progressives Congress and efforts to position the party to win the 2026 governorship election in Ekiti State and the 2027 presidential election.

Oyebanji , who hailed the philanthropic gesture, expressed unshakeable belief that the empowerment will go a long way in complementing efforts being taken by his government to make lives easier for the citizens.

Predicting the 2027 election, Oyebanji exuded confidence that President Tinubu will defeat his opponents with wide margin in Ekiti, assuring that the state will surpass the 500,000 votes threshold set by the APC.

"We are indeed grateful to the Renewed Hope Ambassadors for its commitment to ensuring that the party continues to dominate politics and governance in Nigeria and in Ekiti State beyond 2026 and 2027.

"Ekiti is sure and secured for President Tinubu. We are going to use the June 20 governorship election to send a signal that President Tinubu is loved by our people . We appreciate the level of projects and juicy appointments our people have enjoyed under this government.

"We are assuring President Tinubu that our people shall reciprocate all the good deeds we have enjoyed under his leadership. As far as I know, Ekiti is a done deal for him".

Justifying while Ekiti electorate should reelect President Tinubu, the Coordinator of Renewed Hope Ambassador and Special Adviser on Political Matters, Chief Jide Awe, appreciated the President over speedy completion Ado-Ikere-Akure road and for setting machinery in motion for the reconstruction of Ado-Aramoko-Itawure road.

Awe said since the advent of democracy in 1999, Ekiti had not savoured  plum federal appointments as being witnessed  under Tinubu presidency, saying the electorate must show appreciation through their votes for the APC in every election.

The former APC State Chairman, assured that the empowerment  is not going to be a one-off benefit, saying he has secured assurance from President  Tinubu that the intervention will be carried out at regular interval to buffer the economic hardship on the people.

"In terms of solid infrastructures and appointments, Ekiti has not done badly under Tinubu Presidency.  What we have not witnessed before are happening in Ekiti positively.

"Renewed Hope Ambassadors has Representatives up to the unit level, so we are working hard to galvanize support for President Tinubu and Governor Oyebanji ahead of the coming elections.

"We are sitting the 'Ts' and crossing the 'Is'. We are running the campaigns of our president and Governor Oyebanji together. We are happy, because we have a president who is working hard to reduce poverty in our nation. Through solid infrastructures, he is linking Lagos to Calabar and Badagry to Sokoto.

"Our people must understand that all these can't start bearing fruits within three months, it will take a while. All these roads are concrete laid. When he took over, Lagos-Ibadan road  was half way done, but he has completed it. Akure-Ife-Ibadan road is nearing completion.

"Let me say  this loudly, the re-elections  of President Bola Tinubu and Governor Oyebanji are a done deal in Ekiti. These are not victories that will be given by emotion, but by performance and what our people have been able to benefit".

Lending their voices, the commissioner for Information, Hon. Taiwo Olatunbosun, Chairman, Local Government Service Commission, Chief Alaba Abejide and Special Adviser on Mobilisation and Gender Matters , Mrs Kemi Olaleye , expressed confidence that the opposition parties will be trounced in Ekiti Guber poll and the 2027 presidential elections.

They were emphatic  that the aggressive mobilisation being spearheaded by the party will make the APC surpasses the 500,000  votes projection  set by the party in the impending elections.

"APC is a political party with experience. We know where the votes are. The votes are at the grassroots and that is where we are going to canvass for votes, not on the social media where our opponents are always rushing to. President Tinubu will win the 2027 election, it is sure because Nigerians are with him".

Ekiti North 2 Race: Olarewaju’s Experience and BAO-Aligned Humanitarian Vision in Focus.

Ekiti North 2 Race: Olarewaju’s Experience and BAO-Aligned Humanitarian Vision in Focus.

As political activities intensify ahead of the Ekiti North Federal Constituency II contest, attention continues to shift toward candidates whose records reflect service, capacity, and alignment with the developmental direction of the state government.

Among the frontline contenders is Kunle Ibrahim Olarewaju, whose political journey spanning his time in the House of Representatives and later as Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters has been consistently defined by public service, legislative engagement, and grassroots connection.

Olarewaju’s governance philosophy reflects the humanitarian and development driven agenda of Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji BAO, particularly in the areas of people centered governance, inclusive development, and welfare oriented leadership. This alignment places him within a strategic framework that supports ongoing development efforts between the state and federal levels.

During his tenure in the National Assembly, Olarewaju was associated with advocacy for constituency focused initiatives aimed at improving social welfare and strengthening community development structures. His approach reflected a consistent belief that governance must translate into tangible benefits for the people.

Similarly, his role as Special Assistant on National Assembly Matters further deepened his understanding of policy coordination, intergovernmental relations, and legislative executive synergy, skills considered vital in advancing development agendas similar to that of the BAO led administration.

The shared humanitarian outlook between Olarewaju’s political ideology and Governor Oyebanji’s governance framework continues to shape discussions around continuity, collaboration, and sustainable development.

As former U.S. President Abraham Lincoln once noted, “Government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.” This principle continues to define expectations of representation in Ekiti North Federal Constituency II.

In the same spirit, Olarewaju’s blend of experience and ideological alignment positions him to deepen the impact of ongoing reforms and development initiatives.

As the contest progresses, emphasis remains on experience, alignment with state developmental vision, and capacity to deliver as key determinants for effective representation.

On its part, Egbe Ayonimofe, led by its President, Deacon Ojo Ogunsesin, reaffirmed its confidence in the Governor’s leadership, describing him as a unifying force and dependable ally of the community.
Deacon Ogunsesin attested to the fact that Governor Oyebanji consistently participates in the monthly contributions of the age group and regularly hosts their meetings.

They also announced a major community rally scheduled for May 2, 2026, to which they formally invited the Governor and members of his campaign council, adding that the event would be a veritable platform for voter education and public sensitisation.

Beyond political mobilisation, Egbe Ayonimofe also disclosed plans to embark on voter education initiatives, including sensitisation on political awareness and party identification, stressing the need for citizens to clearly distinguish between political platforms ahead of the elections.

Speaking on behalf of the campaign council, Chief Alaba Abejide described the contributions as a resounding vote of confidence in Governor Oyebanji’s leadership and rising popularity.

Chief Abejide Commended the donors for their display of affection, support and loyalty, and prayed for their continued progress and prosperity.

Olatunbosun noted that support from communities like Ikogosi continues to grow steadily, driven by trust in the Governor’s leadership and visible impact, adding that the people remain firmly aligned with him as the election approaches.

EKITI SOUTH FEDERAL CONSTITUENCY I YOUTHS HOLD ENGAGEMENT, ENDORSE BAO/MCA ’26 RE-ELECTION AND OJUAWO ’27 SECOND TERM.

Youths of Ekiti South Federal Constituency I convened a well-attended Youth Engagement and Strategic Endorsement Programme, bringing together a broad cross-section of young people, political stakeholders, and community leaders from Ikere, Ekiti South West, and Ise/Orun Local Government Areas.

The event, held at St. Stephen Anglican Church Hall, Erinwa, Ise-Ekiti, provided a vibrant platform for dialogue, civic inclusion, and the strengthening of youth participation in governance across the constituency.

In a major political development, participants unanimously expressed support for the BAO/MCA ’26 re-election bid and endorsed Hon. Rufus Ojuawo ’27, the Member representing Ekiti South Federal Constituency I in the House of Representatives, for a second term ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Stakeholders noted that the endorsement reflects growing confidence in their leadership, as well as recognition of ongoing developmental initiatives and sustained commitment to grassroots engagement.

Youth participants emphasized the importance of continuity in governance, noting that sustained leadership would help consolidate ongoing projects and deepen the impact of policies aimed at youth empowerment and infrastructural development within the constituency.

Themed “Consolidating Progress, Empowering Youth, Securing the Future,” the programme underscored the strategic role of young people in shaping the political and socio-economic trajectory of Ekiti South Federal Constituency I. Participants stressed that meaningful youth engagement remains critical to achieving inclusive governance and long-term development.

The event also served as a rallying call for unity among youths across the three local government areas, urging them to remain actively involved in civic processes and to support initiatives that promote collective progress and stability.

Observers described the engagement as a timely intervention that not only strengthened political alignment within the constituency but also reinforced the growing influence of youth voices in shaping leadership direction ahead of the next electoral cycle.

The Shield of Loyalty: Hon. Ibrahim Kunle Olarewaju’s Unwavering Stand for Ekiti’s Progress.

The Shield of Loyalty: Hon. Ibrahim Kunle Olarewaju’s Unwavering Stand for Ekiti’s Progress.

In the high-stakes arena of Ekiti politics, leadership is defined by those who stand tallest when the storm is fiercest. Hon. Ibrahim Kunle Olarewaju, a distinguished legal mind and the APC candidate for Ekiti North Federal Constituency 2, has recently demonstrated that the collective progress of Ekiti State far outweighs personal ambition. At a pivotal moment when his own campaign for the House of Representatives was in full swing, Hon. Olarewaju made the selfless decision to step away from the podium and into the halls of the Federal High Court in Abuja. Standing shoulder-to-shoulder with the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Hon. Dayo Apata (SAN), Olarewaju was not there on personal business; he was there as a bulwark of moral and support to defend the mandate of Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji.

This presence in court for two consecutive days, during the lawsuits filed by Mrs. Bimbo Olawunmi and the associates of Engr. Kayode Ojo, was both a symbolic and strategic masterstroke. Having personally experienced the sting of a "stolen mandate" in the primaries three years ago, Hon. Olarewaju understands better than anyone the necessity of protecting the people's will from "backdoor" maneuvers. He is a man driven by a deep sense of justice, now resolved to reclaim his own mandate while ensuring the Governor's path remains unobstructed. He is not merely rooting for a leader; he is safeguarding a movement and the very future of Ekiti. He knows the heavy cost of injustice and is determined to ensure that the "Shared Prosperity" agenda remains untouched by those seeking to derail the state’s momentum.

For Hon. Olarewaju, the "Continuity" agenda is the heartbeat of a transforming state, not a mere political slogan. He has witnessed firsthand the revolution under Governor Oyebanji: the modernization of infrastructure connecting our markets to our homes, the agricultural empowerment turning Ekiti into the breadbasket of the West, and the restoration of our pride through revamped education and urban beautification. He believes these hard-won gains are too precious to be jeopardized by political instability. Consequently, his ambition for Ekiti North Federal Constituency 2 is intrinsically tied to the Governor’s success; he views his journey to Abuja as a mission to provide the legislative oxygen needed for the Governor’s vision to thrive.

True leadership is measured by action at the grassroots, and Hon. Olarewaju is currently mobilizing a fortress of support. He has pledged to deliver a staggering 150,000 votes across the three pillars of his constituency, Ido-Osi, Moba, and Ilejemeje to cement the Governor’s mandate. He is proving that one can lead a campaign with strategic brilliance while keeping their heart firmly anchored to the state's progress. As a loyal APC stalwart and a legal warrior, he stands as an ardent believer in the Oyebanji vision. By supporting Hon. Ibrahim Kunle Olarewaju, the people are not just electing a representative; they are securing a partner who will ensure that "Shared Prosperity" reaches every household in Ekiti North Constituency 2and beyond.

For Continuity. For Progress. For Ekiti North Constituency 2.
Hon. Ibrahim Kunle Olarewaju is the answer

WHO IS BAO? 🤔

WHO IS BAO? 🤔

*1. By Title and Office*
Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji (BAO) is the sitting Governor of Ekiti State, Nigeria. He was elected in 2022 on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He is now seeking a well-deserved, constitutionally-backed re-election through the June 20, 2026 governorship election.

*2. By Origin and Statehood Connection*
BAO is an indigene of Ekiti and, as a matter of fact, a founding actor in the creation of the state. He served first as Assistant Secretary and later as substantive Secretary of the Committee for the Creation of Ekiti State in 1996. As BAO himself puts it: he helped birth the state, and now governs it.

*3. By Political Journey*
He was at one time Chief of Staff to the Governor; at another time Secretary to the State Government (SSG) of Ekiti State; former Commissioner for Integration and Inter-Governmental Affairs; former Chairman, Governing Board, Citations & Assets Management Agency; and a long-time APC loyalist and strategist in Ekiti politics.

*4. By First-Term Record (2022–2026)*
BAO is the *“Salary-Paying Governor”* who ended the arrears culture. Workers and pensioners receive entitlements as and when due, with quarterly clearance of inherited gratuity.
BAO is the *“Infrastructure Governor”* – roads, rural roads, and power restoration projects across all 16 LGAs and 22 LCDAs, including the Ado-Ekiti Ring Road.
BAO is the *“Transparency Governor”* – Ekiti scored 39/39 in Q4 2025, 100/100 as “Progressive Performer” in Q4 2024, and topped the 2026 Subnational Audit Efficacy Index.
BAO is the *“Security Governor”* – under him, Ekiti ranked the most secured state in Nigeria.
BAO is the *“Human Capital Governor”* – renovated schools, equipped hospitals, expanded health insurance, launched the Ekiti Knowledge Zone, revived farm settlements, and trained 5,000+ youths with SMEDAN.
BAO is the *“Gender Balance Governor”* – Deputy Governor, SSG, Head of Service, and key MDAs are led by women.

*5. By People and Court Affirmation*
BAO is the bona fide candidate of the APC for the June 20, 2026 election, as affirmed by the Federal High Court, Abuja, which struck out suits challenging his candidacy.

*6. By Leadership Style*
BAO is called the *“Omoluabi Governor”* – humble, accessible, God-fearing. Known for inclusive governance and people-centric policies. He funds “Ojuse BAO” from his monthly salary for cash grants, medical aid, and education support to individuals. BAO is endorsed by traditional rulers, religious leaders, and all past governors of Ekiti including Niyi Adebayo, Segun Oni, Ayo Fayose, and Kayode Fayemi.

*7. By Campaign Identity*
BAO is *“the candidate of performance, not of propaganda.”* His 2026 campaign is issue-based with a target to win all 177 Wards and garner a minimum of 500,000 votes. The slogan: _“BAO has worked. BAO will do more.”_

*8. By Grassroots Name*
To market women, BAO is _“Governor wey love us and see us as im mama.”_
To farmers, BAO is _“Governor wey open rural roads and farm settlements.”_
To youths, BAO is _“Governor wey give us 1,000 slots for commercial agric and make us IT savvy.”_
To retirees, BAO is _“Governor wey dey pay gratuity.”_
To kegites, BAO is _“Comradic Governor wey gavel and street don confam.”_

*9. By Party Position*
BAO is the leader of the APC in Ekiti State and the unifying figure behind a “formidable, rancour-free campaign” described as intra local government, intra ward, intra unit.

*10. By Vision*
BAO is the *“Ekiti of My Dream” Governor* – executing a 30-year Agricultural Plan, EKZ tech hub, IPP for industries, and a 2030 shared prosperity roadmap. Term one was stabilization; term two is completion.

*Bottom line:* Biodun Oyebanji, BAO, is the incumbent Governor of Ekiti State, APC’s 2026 flagbearer, a founder of Ekiti State, and a first-term governor whose record on salaries, security, transparency, and projects forms the core of his re-election bid.

In politics, arrogance builds walls. Humility builds bridges. On June 20, Ekiti will choose between the arrogance of others and the humility of BAO.

Ekiti has seen both. We had leaders who owed salaries and called it normal. We now have BAO who pays and still says ‘Thank You’.

Arrogant leaders blame the people. Humble leaders blame themselves and fix the problem.

A governor can choose to rule from a palace or serve from the street. BAO chose the street.

BAO is taking over from BAO.

Know this, know peace.

“Performance as Power” — Why Oyebanji Has Already Won the Argument Before the Election.

“Performance as Power” — Why Oyebanji Has Already Won the Argument Before the Election.

Long before campaign posters saturate the streets and political rhetoric rises to its peak ahead of the 2026 governorship election in Ekiti State, a compelling and unmistakable reality is emerging: this is shaping up to be a rare contest in which an incumbent is not asking for trust, but pointing to evidence.

In politics, evidence, when visible, measurable, and relatable, can be far more persuasive than promises. It can even counter voter apathy by grounding political choice in lived experience rather than expectation.

Redefining the Incumbency Advantage

Incumbency in Nigeria has often been reduced to access to power, control of structures, and political influence. But the camp of Biodun Oyebanji is advancing a more sophisticated proposition: that incumbency can, and should, be defined by measurable impact.

Under the strategic coordination of Senator Cyril Fasuyi, the BAO 2026 campaign is not merely defending a record; it is leveraging it.

“The last four years were the real campaign,” Fasuyi has stated—a position that captures the core of the administration’s argument.

Across Ekiti State, governance is no longer abstract. Its imprints are visible, tangible, and, crucially, relatable to everyday life.

When Infrastructure Becomes Advocacy and Speaks Louder Than Rallies

In many elections, infrastructure exists as a promise. In this case, it functions as proof.

From urban corridors to rural access routes, the rehabilitation and expansion of road networks across the state have reshaped mobility and economic activity. The transportation of people, goods, and farm produce is no longer a campaign promise, it is a lived experience.

Similar patterns are evident in education and healthcare. Investments in school rehabilitation and teacher development have begun to restore confidence in public education, while primary healthcare centres are transitioning from neglected facilities into functional community lifelines.

This is where the administration’s advantage becomes structurally significant: opposition critiques must contend with visible, everyday improvements.

The Politics of Credibility

Perhaps the administration’s most consequential asset is credibility.

Claims of improved fiscal discipline, enhanced transparency ratings, and efforts to address food inflation are not merely statistical assertions, they reinforce a broader perception of competence and responsibility.

In a political environment where public trust is often fragile, the ability to point to verifiable governance indicators shifts the central question from “Can he deliver?” to “Why disrupt what is already working?”

For any incumbent, that is a position of strength.

Stability as Strategy And a Selling Point

Security is one of the administration’s strongest narratives.

By sustaining relative peace and social stability, Oyebanji has turned Ekiti into a State where elections are not synonymous with fear, something rare in Nigeria’s political climate where electoral cycles are frequently associated with tension and uncertainty.

This matters. Stability reduces risk for voters and increases the appeal of continuity. It reinforces the argument that progress and peace are mutually reinforcing outcomes of the same leadership approach.

Grassroots Mobilisation: Quiet, Relentless, Effective

Beyond performance, there is structure, and here too, Oyebanji appears firmly ahead.

The administration is very deliberate and the “Everyone is a canvasser” doctrine is not just clever branding; it is a grassroots force multiplier, converting average supporters into consistent advocates, embedding the campaign message deep within communities.
Unlike large rallies that generate momentary excitement, this model builds sustained persuasion, one conversation at a time.
It is indeed deliberate and decisive.

Continuity Not Experimentation
Another subtle but significant advantage lies in the continuity narrative.
Oyebanji is not running as a disruptor, but as a consolidator, one who has built upon existing foundations, completed inherited projects, and initiated new interventions within a coherent development trajectory.
His political experience reinforces this narrative. Over the years, he has served in key capacities across successive administrations in Ekiti State apart from being a key player in the struggle leading to the creation of the State, contributing to policy continuity and institutional memory.
It is also notable that he enjoys broad support across the state’s political leadership spectrum, reflecting a level of elite consensus that is uncommon in subnational politics.
For voters, this reduces uncertainty. The election is framed not as a leap into the unknown, but as a decision to sustain and deepen an ongoing trajectory.
The Confidence of Structure and Numbers
The campaign’s projection of a minimum of 500,000 votes across all 177 wards is not ambitious, it is indicative of confidence rooted in structure and real performance.
Such confidence, when supported by visible governance outcomes and a disciplined grassroots network, can shape electoral psychology. It energizes supporters, attracts undecided voters, and subtly redefines the competitive landscape.
Raising the Bar for the Opposition
What ultimately strengthens Oyebanji’s position is not only his record, but the burden it imposes on his challengers.
They are not contesting against intentions or promises; they are contesting against outcomes.
To remain competitive, opposition candidates must do more than critique, they must persuade voters that current progress is inadequate or unsustainable, and that they can deliver superior results.
That is a very difficult argument to win, it is, in fact, a mission impossible.

The Verdict Before the Vote

While elections are never concluded until ballots are counted, the early dynamics in Ekiti suggest that Governor Oyebanji has already secured a critical victory, the battle of perception.

Oyebanji is increasingly framed not as a candidate seeking validation, but as a leader seeking continuity.

In politics, that distinction is profound.

The 2026 governorship election in Ekiti State is not likely going to be an intense contestation with the current trajectory of visible performance and grassroot mobilization, it may instead be remembered as a demonstration of a simple truism that: that governance, when effectively executed, can become the most persuasive campaign of all.

And within that equation, Biodun Oyebanji is not merely competing.

He is leading.

Equally lending his seasoned voice, Mr. Oluwasesan Aina, the former Coordinator of the HLA Conference, now Executive Secretary, charged the administrative leaders to remain dynamic, proactive, and result-oriented in their duties. Beyond professional excellence, he urged them to continue supporting and upholding the visible achievements and visionary strides of the Executive Governor of Ekiti State, His Excellency Abiodun Oyebanji (BAO). Indeed, the gathering stood as a huge and splendid convergence of the most senior administrative minds across the Local Governments and LCDAs, where ideas were exchanged with intellectual depth and shared commitment toward sustaining the relevance, efficiency, and responsiveness of the Local Government administrative structure.

In her characteristic enthusiasm and charismatic leadership style, Mrs. Akinbobola Deborah-Bosede, the Head of Local Government Administration of Irepodun Ifelodun Local Government, who graciously hosted the meeting, expressed heartfelt appreciation to her colleagues for their consistent and glorious turnout, as demonstrated in previous engagements.

and where service to the people remained the sacred anthem.

Together, these administrative leaders stood not merely as officers of duty, but as custodians of governance, architects of grassroots development, and torchbearers of progressive transformation—committed to sustaining excellence, nurturing unity, and driving the Local Government system toward enduring relevance and outstanding performance.

Ekiti Govt Approves 50% Tractorization Subsidy for Farmers.

Ekiti Govt Approves 50% Tractorization Subsidy for Farmers.

The Ekiti State Executive Council has approved a 50 per cent subsidy on tractorization services for farmers as part of measures to enhance agricultural productivity in the 2026 planting season.

The Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Mr Ebenezer Boluwade, disclosed this in a statement issued in Ado-Ekiti, noting that the subsidy covers ploughing, harrowing and ridging of farmlands across the state.

According to him, following the council’s approval, farmers will now pay ₦45,000 per hectare for ploughing, instead of the ₦90,000 market rate, while harrowing and ridging will cost ₦32,500 per hectare each, down from ₦65,000.

Boluwade explained that the slight increase in prices compared to last year was due to rising diesel costs, attributed to ongoing global tensions involving Iran and the US/Israel, adding that prices may be reviewed downward if fuel costs decline.

He outlined conditions for participation in the programme, including a maximum of five hectares per farmer and verification by ministry engineers to ensure the land has not been tractorized within the last 12 months.

The Commissioner added that payment by farmers will only be made after confirmation that the land is suitable for tractorization, assuring that service providers are expected to mobilize to project sites within 48 hours of payment.

He urged interested farmers to contact designated numbers based on their senatorial districts: Ekiti South (0706-826-2309, 0803-487-9106), Ekiti Central (0806-8497008, 0806-232-5044) and Ekiti North (0803-565-6550, 0803-489-2651).

Boluwade added that, ” this is the fourth time the State Government will be subsidising the Tractorization Support Scheme for farmers in the State.

” The Scheme started in 2023 and it has captured so many farmers and improved productivity among the small holder farmers. The list of approved Mechanisation Service Providers allocated to every farmstead has been circulated widely within the state.”

I WILL NOT LET NIGERIANS DOWN, SAYS PRESIDENT TINUBU TO RENEWED HOPE AMBASSADORS.

I WILL NOT LET NIGERIANS DOWN, SAYS PRESIDENT TINUBU TO RENEWED HOPE AMBASSADORS.

President Bola Tinubu, on Thursday in Abuja, reaffirmed his commitment to building a stable, peaceful, and prosperous nation, assuring that the well-being of Nigerians remains his top priority.

He stated that the political and economic structures that have long undermined Nigerians’ prosperity are being steadily replaced through the realignment of the economy to enable full participation.

Receiving a delegation of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors led by Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State at the State House, President Tinubu pledged to sustain reforms aimed at creating more opportunities for poor and vulnerable citizens.

Vice President Kashim Shettima and the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, also attended the event, alongside many governors: Mai Mala Buni (Yobe), Mohammed Inuwa (Gombe), Nasir Idris (Kebbi), Francis Nwifuru (Ebonyi), Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta), Usman Ododo (Kogi), Abiodun Oyebanji (Ekiti), Hyacinth Alia (Benue), Agbu Kefas (Taraba), Monday Okpebholo (Edo), and Uba Sani (Kaduna), who also serves as deputy director-general of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors..

A host of former governors, including Aminu Bello Masari (Katsina), Ifeanyi Okowa (Delta), and Tanko Almakura (Nasarawa), attended, as well as former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim, the APC National Secretary Senator Ajibola Bashiru, zonal coordinators of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, directors and the Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters, Ibrahim Masari.

President Tinubu emphasised that the more citizens participate in shaping their lives and future, the better society will be for generations to come.

He urged the Renewed Hope Ambassadors to continue sensitising and mobilising citizens, especially at the grassroots, on the government's efforts to improve their livelihoods through economic reforms.

“You represent the conscience of a nation that wants to break the shackles of poverty and hopelessness,’’ he said.

President Tinubu assured that the administration will uphold the tenets of democracy, including the rule of law, the separation of powers and the rights of all citizens.

“We cannot submit to disobedience of a lawful order of the court; we must embrace the judiciary, whether it favours us or not. We submit to this principle of democracy, separation of powers, and understanding of the dynamics of it, and the nationhood that Nigeria is, that we must build one country.  That's what Renewed Hope is all about. You must give them that hope.

“There's no other path for us to attain national greatness other than to build one common vision for the progress and prosperity of our people. That is what we must do,’' he added.

He reiterated that his government is guided by a clear vision to foster inclusive growth, create opportunities for youth, and ensure that every Nigerian—regardless of background or region—has a stake in the country’s future.

He encouraged citizens not to be discouraged by the misinformation championed by the opposition elements in the country.

He said the great accomplishments witnessed in modern times were achieved through visionary leadership, assuring that Nigeria is in safe hands.

To the opposition, he said: "They want to scare me off? It's a lie. I've been through this path before. And if I have to come back over and over and over again, I'll do the same thing. There is no better place than your own country. And no one can build it except you. We saw great things, skyscrapers. We wonder how the plane takes off and flies us from one destination to another. There was no magic of yesterday. It is the thinker of tomorrow and the future that can elevate life, that can reform us all.

"And being the transformative leaders that you are, you are in good company. Don't be afraid. I've listened to you.  I didn't have to look back on the economy because the truth is, I took over from myself. The late Buhari was me. He was my partner.  And if I took over from him. Is that not from me? So, if something is wrong, fine. Live with it, correct it, move on. The life voyage is not going to be easy. I can only stand before you and say you will not regret it. That is why we ask you to renew their hope. If they don't want to see the hope and the roads and bridges, and the children we raise, the economy we are growing, we shall lend them Jigi-Bola, eyeglasses. One thing that you need from me is a promise that I won't run away from the affair. With you, the deal is done".

Turning to the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, President Tinubu promised to be their greatest champion.

"We act as one family. You represent a conscience, a nation that wants to break the shackles of poverty, ignorance, and hopelessness. You are in a good company. That's all I can say. And all I can promise is I won't give up".

Earlier, the Director–General of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors (RHA)and Governor of Imo State, Sen. Hope Uzodinma, said they were at the State House to update the President on the progress made so far.

"Our purpose in coming is to brief Mr President on how far we have gone with this national assignment, to present the substance of the work already done, and to reaffirm that the structure you graciously created is not only alive but active, coordinated, and already creating measurable political and civic dividends across the nation.

“At the regional level, activities have begun in earnest. All the structures of all the local governments have been inaugurated, as in the electoral wards.

“We have kick – started the process of enumeration up to the polling unit level. We are continuously harvesting data during enrolment, taking the messages to the markets, schools and professional groups, women's platforms and faith-based and grassroots political structures,” Governor Uzodinma said.

He lauded President Tinubu for his purposeful leadership and assured him of their loyalty and commitment to the success of the assignment.

The North-West Zonal Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors and former Governor of Katsina State, Aminu Bello Masari, commended the courage and political sagacity of the President, describing him as a dogged reformer despite the teething difficulties being experienced.

"We know very well that reformers are always finding it extremely difficult at the beginning. More especially, if you are reforming in a society that is very difficult to understand, and some are willing to make people not understand," Masari said.

Masari commended the President for taking hard but necessary reforms that leaders before him could not, saying that Nigeria has become better for it.

He assured the President that most political heavyweights in the North-West geopolitical zone are solidly behind the All Progressives Congress (APC), stating that the struggle for a better Nigeria is for all to undertake.

He said the North West leaders have agreed to tour the federal projects in the zone to raise awareness among citizens.

" You have done so much, Mr President, but don't allow noise makers to distract you. Your bashings are not for you alone. Even your detractors know that you have done well.

"Will anyone come tomorrow and say he will reverse the removal of the fuel subsidy or return the nation to multiple foreign exchange rates?" Masari said.

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, lauded President Tinubu for the infrastructural revolution across the nation, enabled by the several reform programmes of his administration, as attested to by state governors.

Former Governor Okowa, former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim, Governors Uba Sani and Biodun Oyebanji also delivered goodwill messages at the meeting.

VENITE UNIVERSITY VC URGES EKITI TRADITIONAL RULERS TO SUPPORT AGBEYEWA’S AGRICULTURAL DRIVE.

VENITE UNIVERSITY VC URGES EKITI TRADITIONAL RULERS TO SUPPORT AGBEYEWA’S AGRICULTURAL DRIVE.

The Vice-Chancellor of Venite University, Iloro-Ekiti, Professor Charity Onye Aremu, has called on traditional rulers in Ekiti State to support the expansion of Agbeyewa’s agricultural initiative as part of efforts to drive economic transformation in Nigeria.

She made this appeal on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at the 3rd Annual Agbeyewa Traditional Rulers Retreat held at Ikogosi Warm Springs Resort and Conference Center.

Speaking at the event, Professor Aremu highlighted that Agbeyewa’s core mission is to build healthy and thriving communities through sustainable agro-allied investments, stressing that collaboration is vital for meaningful transformation.

She emphasised the need for a mindset shift, noting that “perspective defines what you see,” and that such change is essential to move from mere production to value addition, where farm produce becomes finished products of greater economic value.

Describing Agbeyewa as a leading Agripreneurial initiative, she said its products should be in every household in Ekiti State, achievable with the support of traditional rulers who are key to grassroots mobilisation. She also stressed increased food production, citing John Dewey that “food brings happiness,” and added that Agbeyewa aims to restore prosperity and well-being among Nigerians, starting from Ekiti State.

Professor Aremu further charged that individuals and communities have “two choices” ; to accept unfavourable conditions or take responsibility to create positive change, commending Agbeyewa for choosing transformation.

Also speaking at the event, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, the Royal Father of the Day, praised Agbeyewa and its Chairman, Niyi John Olajide, noting that Olajide has established over 500 companies in the United States and is replicating similar success in Nigeria.

The monarch described Agbeyewa as the largest cassava farm in the world and Nigeria’s biggest cassava farm reserve, highlighting its potential to boost food security and employment.

In her concluding remarks, the Vice-Chancellor reiterated that combating poverty requires agricultural entrepreneurship, urging agripreneurs to act as intermediaries between corporate organisations and rural farmers through corporate social responsibility in collaboration with traditional rulers and community leaders.

The retreat brought together key stakeholders in agriculture, academics, and traditional institutions, reinforcing the role of partnership in advancing Nigeria’s agricultural sector.
