Member representing Ekiti South Federal Constituency 1 in the House of Representative, Air Vice Marshal Rufus Adeniyi OJUAWO(rtd) has expressed profound relief and gratitude over the safe release of pupils and teachers of Oriire community in Oyo state, who were abducted on May 15, 2026 in their schools.

In a statement released on Tuesday from his media office,  Honourable OJUAWO described the release as “a welcome development and answer to prayers” for families who had been in distress since the incident.
“I congratulate the families of the victims and the entire people of Oriire LGA and Esinele community on this safe return. No parent or family should have to go through the anguish of not knowing the whereabouts of their child or parent,” Ojuawo said.

He commended the federal government under the able leadership of the President, Commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Oyo State Government, for their tireless efforts and sense of leadership while the whole saga lasted.
"I cannot but salute the courage of the gallant officers of the Nigeria Police Force, DSS, Military, Local Vigilantes/Hunters for their professionalism, coordination, and commitment that led to this positive outcome. Your sacrifice does not go unnoticed. As a retired senior military officer, I believe in the capabilities of our security agencies and I am proud of them for this accomplishment" he added.

The lawmaker further called on relevant security agencies to intensify patrols and intelligence gathering along highways and around communities to prevent a recurrence, and urged community leaders to continue supporting security efforts through timely information sharing.
"As a former military officer, I remain committed to working with the Federal Government, State Government, and security agencies to ensure that our country is safe for farming, schooling, and business to thrive,” he promised.

AVM Adeniyi Ojuawo prayed for the quick physical and emotional recovery of the victims, as they go through the necessary therapy and rejoin their families and communities.
He also appealed to citizens to remain law-abiding and to report any suspicious activities around them to security authorities.
