NANS INAUGURATES 2026 NATIONAL LEADERSHIP, PLEDGES A NEW ERA OF PURPOSEFUL STUDENT REPRESENTATION.
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), the foremost umbrella body representing millions of Nigerian students across tertiary institutions nationwide, has officially inaugurated its 2026 National Leadership at a colourful and well-attended ceremony held on Tuesday, 14 July 2026, at the NAF Conference Centre, Kado, Abuja.
The historic event brought together an impressive gathering of government officials, distinguished public office holders, traditional leaders, development partners, corporate executives, youth leaders, civil society organizations, student leaders, alumni, and friends of the Nigerian student movement, all united by a shared commitment to strengthening education, youth leadership, and national development.
Among those inaugurated was Comrade Sadiq SK Zango, who formally assumed office as the National Vice President (External Affairs) of the National Association of Nigerian Students.
Speaking shortly after the inauguration, Comrade Zango described the occasion as “not merely the commencement of a tenure, but the beginning of a renewed commitment to responsible leadership, constructive engagement, and impactful service to Nigerian students.”
According to him:
“The confidence reposed in this administration by Nigerian students comes with enormous responsibility. Our duty is not simply to occupy offices but to deliver value, strengthen institutions, build strategic partnerships, and ensure that the collective voice of Nigerian students continues to command respect both nationally and internationally.”
The newly inaugurated National Vice President (External Affairs) reaffirmed his commitment to positioning the Office of External Affairs as a strategic platform for expanding partnerships between NANS and government institutions, development partners, diplomatic missions, international organizations, corporate bodies, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders committed to educational advancement and youth empowerment.
He further outlined key priorities for the office, including strengthening institutional diplomacy, promoting scholarship and exchange opportunities, expanding leadership and entrepreneurship initiatives, encouraging innovation and technology-driven collaborations, and creating sustainable opportunities that will directly benefit Nigerian students across the Federation.
Comrade Zango expressed profound appreciation to Almighty Allah, the leadership of NANS, mentors, family, supporters, stakeholders, and the numerous individuals and organizations whose encouragement, guidance, and support contributed to the successful inauguration.
He also paid tribute to the National President and members of the National Executive Council, emphasizing that the administration would be driven by teamwork, unity, professionalism, and a shared vision for a stronger and more responsive National Association of Nigerian Students.
The inauguration ceremony equally featured goodwill messages from distinguished guests, presentations recognising outstanding contributors to youth development, and renewed calls for stronger collaboration between student leaders, government institutions, development organizations, and the private sector in addressing issues affecting education and national development.
As the new National Executive Council officially begins its tenure, the leadership reaffirmed its resolve to pursue constructive engagement, defend the legitimate interests of Nigerian students, promote educational excellence, and contribute meaningfully to national development through responsible advocacy and strategic partnerships.
The Association called on Nigerian students, stakeholders, alumni, development partners, and well-meaning Nigerians to support the new administration as it embarks on what it described as “a journey of service, integrity, innovation, and transformational leadership.”
The journey has begun.
