Two lecturers of the Geology Department at Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, Professors O. L. Ademilua and O. F. Adebayo, were on Thursday honoured by the 2001 set of the department’s alumni.

The event, which took place at the university campus, saw the alumni, led by their President, Fadekemi Longe, presenting cash gifts and other items to the two professors in recognition of their contributions to the academic and personal development of students during their time at the institution.

Longe, while addressing the gathering, recalled how the lecturers treated students like their own children and made lasting impacts on their lives. She said the honour was a token of appreciation from the set, adding that the group would continue to support the department.

“We remember the selfless service and fatherly care you both showed us. You didn’t just teach us in the classroom; you guided us through life,” Longe said.

Responding, Prof. Ademilua, who spoke on behalf of himself and Prof. Adebayo, expressed delight over the recognition. “We are filled with joy and gratitude to God that our good deeds of over two decades are being recognized and appreciated,” he said.

Prof. Adebayo also prayed for the continued success of all members of the 2001 set and urged them not to forget their alma mater.

The Head of Department, Prof. A. O. Aturamu, who is also an alumnus of the institution, described the gesture as commendable and urged the alumni to “come over to Macedonia and help”, stressing the importance of alumni support to the development of the department.

He congratulated the honoured lecturers and called on other staff members to emulate their dedication and mentorship.

The event was attended by staff and students of the Geology Department.

The university’s Directorate of Information and Corporate Affairs, in a statement signed by the Deputy Registrar, Bode Olofinmuagun, confirmed the development and commended the 2001 alumni set for their continued engagement with the university.
