‎40+ Egyptian industrialists engage Ekiti as State advances major opportunities across agriculture, agro-processing, textiles and solid minerals, with potential to create thousands of direct and indirect jobs.

‎The Government of Ekiti State has taken another significant step in its drive towards industrialization following the conclusion of the Ekiti–Egypt Industrial Investment Mission, which generated a pipeline of opportunities with the potential to mobilise up to US$500 million in industrial and trade investment.

‎Held in Cairo from 24–28 July 2026, the five-day mission brought the Ekiti delegation into engagement with more than 40 Egyptian industrialists, manufacturers, processors, agribusinesses, mining operators and investors, resulting in eight Expressions of Interest (EOIs) and further commercial engagements across agriculture, agro-processing, commercial farming, seed production, textiles, manufacturing and solid minerals.

‎“We want to build agricultural value chains where farmers have reliable markets, processors have access to the volumes and quality they require, and more of the value created from our agricultural resources remains within Ekiti. The construction of a modern office for the Apalufin of Aisegba-Ekiti and a mini hall for the Apalufin-in-Council has commenced, delivering another visible community-focused intervention by Senator Yemi Adaramodu, representing Ekiti South Senatorial District. The project is designed to provide a befitting administrative space for the traditional institution and a functional venue for council meetings and official engagements.

The intervention responds to the longstanding need to replace the traditional meeting place, Owajarinkin, which has been out of use for years due to its deteriorating condition. The project was part of Senator Adaramodu’s commitments to the people of Aisegba-Ekiti during the 2023 electioneering period, further reinforcing his record of translating campaign promises into tangible projects for his constituents.

The project also adds to Senator Adaramodu’s earlier intervention in Aisegba-Ekiti, where he facilitated the renovation of the community town hall, now in active use. As the Bobagunwa of Aisegba-Ekiti, Senator (Chief) Yemi Adaramodu continues to support the community through interventions that strengthen traditional institutions, improve communal infrastructure and respond to identified local needs.

In a move aimed at strengthening his relationship with the grassroots and consolidating his acceptability among the electorate, Hon. Balarabe Abiodun Akinwumi, candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the Akure South/Akure North Federal Constituency in the 2027 general election, on Friday commenced his campaign activities with a series of ward visits in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The campaign activities, which marked the beginning of his grassroots mobilisation ahead of the election, took the ADC candidate and members of his campaign team to various wards, where they interacted directly with party leaders, members, supporters, and other stakeholders.

The visits came shortly after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Wednesday, August 19, lifted the ban on public campaigns for the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections, formally opening the window for political parties and their candidates to intensify their engagements with the electorate.

Akinwumi, accompanied by members of his campaign team and other party stakeholders, visited Wards 5, 3, 8 and 12 in Akure North Local Government Area.

The visits were greeted with enthusiasm by party leaders, women and youth groups, as well as other supporters of the ADC. In the various wards, the campaign train was received in a carnival-like atmosphere, with party supporters displaying solidarity and expressing their readiness to support the candidate as the 2027 elections approach.

Addressing the party faithful during the visits, Akinwumi solicited the commitment, cooperation and continued loyalty of members and supporters, stressing the importance of unity and grassroots mobilisation in achieving victory for the party.

He urged members to remain steadfast and work together to strengthen the party at the ward and local government levels. He also emphasised the need for sustained engagement with residents and potential voters, noting that the success of the ADC would depend largely on the ability of its members to take the party's message to the grassroots.

The candidate expressed appreciation to the ward leaders and members for the warm reception accorded him and his campaign team, assuring them of his commitment to maintaining close contact with the people

He said the ward visits were not merely political engagements but an opportunity to listen to the concerns, aspirations and expectations of the people, particularly those at the grassroots.

The ward leaders, in their separate remarks, welcomed the candidate and his team, reaffirming their commitment to the growth and success of the ADC in the constituency. They also pledged to continue mobilising members and supporters in preparation for the election.

The campaign train is expected to visit the remaining 19 wards in the constituency in the coming days as part of efforts to strengthen the party's grassroots structure further and expand its support base.

The ongoing ward-to-ward engagements are expected to culminate in a full-blown campaign across the towns and villages that make up the Akure South/Akure North Federal Constituency.

The Ekiti State Government has commenced moves to integrate women’s economic empowerment into its broader development agenda, with stakeholders calling for stronger coordination, reliable data and gender-responsive policies across government.

The call came at the end of a week-long stakeholder engagement on the domestication of the National Women’s Economic Empowerment (WEE) Policy and Action Plan in Ado-Ekiti.

The engagement, which brought together government agencies, financial institutions, private-sector organisations, civil society groups, women-focused organisations and professional associations, examined barriers limiting women’s participation in the state’s economy and proposed practical solutions.

The lead consultant for the exercise, Prof. Olabisi Aina, affirmed that women’s economic empowerment could not be achieved by the Ministry of Women Affairs alone, stressing that ministries and agencies responsible for finance, agriculture, education, infrastructure, labour, transportation and technology must play defined roles.

She spoke at the Technical Session of the engagement, which featured key informant interviews, focus group discussions and validation sessions.

Prof. Aina said the National WEE Policy, adopted by the Federal Government in 2023, was designed to address structural and institutional barriers limiting women’s full participation in economic development.

She urged the state to adopt a more coordinated system in which gender considerations are integrated into planning, budgeting, policy formulation and service delivery across government MDAs and institutions. 

Earlier, Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving the economic wellbeing, inclusion and independence of women in the state.

Gov. Oyebanji, who received the WEE technical team at the Governor's Office through the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Habibat Adubiaro, said his administration recognised the invaluable role women play in Ekiti’s socio-economic development.

The governor highlighted interventions in areas such as skills development, enterprise support, and opportunities linked to the Ekiti Knowledge Zone and the Ministry of Trade, Industry, Investment, and Cooperatives. He assured that the state would collaborate with relevant stakeholders to strengthen the agenda for women's development. 

The engagement focused on five major areas: agriculture and rural development; entrepreneurship and micro, small and medium enterprises; financial inclusion; education and skills; and labour.

Stakeholders also examined opportunities for women in emerging sectors such as information and communication technology, e-commerce, renewable energy, creative industries, fashion, agribusiness, digital finance, tourism, technology and media.

Participants identified limited access to finance, land, technology, markets, infrastructure and productive assets as major barriers to women’s economic advancement.

They also called for stronger support for women-owned businesses, particularly those operating in the informal sector, as well as improved access to affordable credit, financial literacy, digital banking, insurance and market opportunities.

The stakeholders further stressed the importance of reliable sex-disaggregated data to guide policy formulation, budgeting and monitoring of interventions targeting women.

Unpaid care work was also identified as a major obstacle to women’s participation in the labour force, with participants advocating improved childcare support, social protection and family-friendly workplace policies.

The engagement emphasised the need to deliberately include rural and urban women, young and older women, and women living with disabilities in the state’s economic empowerment framework.

In her presentation, the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs Olapeju Babafemi, commended Governor Oyebanji's Administration for championing initiatives that advance the rights and development of women and girls.

The domestication exercise is expected to produce a stakeholder consultation report, sector-specific analysis of barriers facing women, an inventory of existing interventions, a stakeholder map, a priority intervention matrix and monitoring and evaluation indicators for a proposed five-year Ekiti State WEE Action Plan.

The initiative will also reposition women’s economic empowerment as a shared responsibility across government and the wider economy, with emphasis on access to finance, skills, employment, markets, technology, land and entrepreneurial opportunities.

The ultimate objective is to ensure that women and girls become active participants in driving Ekiti State’s economic growth and prosperity, rather than mere beneficiaries of development programmes.

The Governor of Ekiti State, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, will commence a two-week annual leave on Monday, August 24, 2026.

The two-week leave is part of the Governor’s statutory annual leave entitlement. 

While on leave, Governor Oyebanji will, however, continue to attend to crucial matters relating to governance and administration of the State. 

The Governor will resume office on Monday, September 7, 2026. 

This is the second time Governor Oyebanji will be proceeding on leave since assuming office on October 16, 2022.

This was made known to newsmen in a statement issued and signed by Olayinka Oyebode, Special Adviser (Media) to the Governor, on Friday, August 21, 2026.

Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, on Thursday received the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the June 20 governorship election, Dr Wole Oluyede, with both leaders reaffirming their commitment to mobilising support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.

The meeting, which took place in Ado-Ekiti, was disclosed in a statement by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media, Mr Olayinka Oyebode.

According to the statement, Oluyede used the meeting to formally brief the governor on his decision to support Tinubu’s bid for a second term in office, citing the need to promote Ekiti’s development and national progress.

The two leaders also discussed issues relating to the development of Ekiti State and the priorities of the Oyebanji administration as it prepares to commence its second term on October 16.

Oyebode quoted the governor as commending Oluyede for what he described as his statesmanship and commitment to the development of Ekiti State and Nigeria.

Oluyede, who contested the June 20 election on the platform of the PDP, had earlier expressed his decision to support Tinubu’s re-election after losing the governorship contest to Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress.

He subsequently visited President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, where he reiterated his commitment to supporting the President’s 2027 re-election bid and discussed strategies towards achieving the objective.

The latest meeting between Oyebanji and Oluyede is seen as another indication of the growing political alignment around the President’s 2027 re-election bid and the shared interest in the continued development of Ekiti State.
