In a significant step toward strengthening collaboration between Nigeria’s tertiary education community and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), the National Vice President (External Affairs) of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Comr. Sadiq SK Zango, today led a high-powered delegation of the National Secretariat to a strategic engagement with the Director-General of the NYSC at the Scheme’s National Directorate Headquarters in Abuja.

The engagement, held at the invitation of the Director-General, provided a platform for constructive dialogue on graduate transition, national service, youth empowerment, entrepreneurship, digital transformation, and institutional collaboration.

Addressing the NYSC leadership, Comr. Sadiq SK Zango stated that the National Secretariat of NANS has continued to receive a substantial volume of inquiries from graduating students and prospective Corps Members on mobilisation procedures, Senate List challenges, documentation requirements, welfare issues, entrepreneurship opportunities, and post-service career pathways.

He emphasized that these recurring concerns underscore the need for stronger institutional cooperation to ensure that Nigerian graduates receive timely, accurate, and verified information before commencing national service.

During the engagement, Comr. Zango presented a comprehensive set of policy proposals aimed at deepening collaboration between NANS and the NYSC. The proposals focused on establishing a structured partnership framework, introducing nationwide pre-mobilisation sensitisation programmes for final-year students, expanding campus-based information campaigns, strengthening entrepreneurship awareness, promoting graduate employability initiatives, and encouraging continuous stakeholder engagement on matters affecting Corps Members.

He noted that with its extensive network across universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, and other tertiary institutions, NANS is uniquely positioned to serve as a credible bridge between government institutions and millions of Nigerian students by supporting public enlightenment, civic education, and the dissemination of verified information.

Comr. Zango further reaffirmed the commitment of the National Executive Council of NANS to constructive engagement with public institutions, stressing that sustainable youth development requires enduring partnerships built on dialogue, shared responsibility, and practical solutions.

He observed that strengthening cooperation between the NYSC and NANS would not only improve graduate preparedness for national service but also expand awareness of entrepreneurship, innovation, leadership development, and other opportunities available to young Nigerians.

The National Association of Nigerian Students commended the Director-General and the Management of the NYSC for their openness, professionalism, and willingness to engage student leadership on issues of national importance. The Association expressed optimism that the engagement would serve as a foundation for sustained collaboration in advancing graduate development, national unity, and youth empowerment.

As part of its broader institutional engagement agenda, NANS reaffirmed its resolve to continue working with government ministries, departments, and agencies to promote evidence-based policy dialogue, strengthen public participation, and advocate initiatives that expand opportunities for Nigerian students and graduates.

APC Campaign Council Holds Post-Election Appraisal, Commends Ekiti Electorate for Historic Victory.

Following the overwhelming victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the June 20, 2026 governorship election in Ekiti State, the party's Campaign Council has commenced a comprehensive post-election appraisal of its activities and performance across the state.

The inaugural appraisal meeting was held on Sunday, July 12, 2026, at the Campaign Council's Situation Office. The meeting was presided over by the Director General of the Campaign Council, Distinguished Senator Cyril Fasuyi.

Present at the meeting were the Ekiti State Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Akintunde Oyebode; the three Senatorial Directors of Mobilisation, Hon. Babade Kayode (Ekiti South), Chief Remi Oguntuase (Ekiti Central), and Mrs. Kemi Olaleye (Ekiti North). Also in attendance were the State Director of Mobilisation, Mr. Sunkanmi Onipede; the Secretary of the Directorate, Asipa Ayodeji Adarabierin; and Otunba Lekan Oyebanji, among other stakeholders.

The meeting, convened by the leadership of the APC Campaign Council under the chairmanship of the Senate Leader, Distinguished Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele (MOB), was aimed at reviewing the activities of the Campaign Council and assessing its performance in relation to the outcome of the June 20 governorship election, which returned Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji with a resounding mandate.

As part of the appraisal process, the Director General received feedback from members of the various directorates, while an interactive session was scheduled with the 38 Local Government and Local Council Development Area Directors of Mobilisation to evaluate the campaign from the polling unit level up to the State Collation Centre.

The interactive exercise, which commenced yesterday and concluded today, provided an opportunity for participants to identify strengths, examine challenges encountered during the campaign, and document lessons that would further strengthen the party's electoral machinery.

The Campaign Council described the exercise as unprecedented in Ekiti's political history, noting that it reflects the party's commitment to continuous improvement, accountability, and institutional learning despite recording a landslide victory at the polls.

Speaking during the meeting, Senator Cyril Fasuyi expressed profound appreciation to all stakeholders, party faithful, campaign officials, and the people of Ekiti State, for their steadfast support, commitment, and confidence in the APC.

He also conveyed the appreciation of Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji to the electorate for the overwhelming mandate given to the party. The Governor, through the Campaign Council, equally thanked the national leadership of the APC and expressed special gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his steadfast support throughout the campaign.

The Council thereafter passed a vote of confidence on the entire campaign structure, including the Campaign Council, all Directorates, the Women Campaign Council headed by the Ekiti State First Lady, Dr. Olajumoke Olayemi Oyebanji, and every individual who contributed to the success of the election.

In his vote of thanks, the commissioner for information, Rt. Hon. Taiwo Olatunbosun, paid glowing tribute to Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, describing him as a leader whose humility, inclusiveness, and commitment to the development of Ekiti inspired the confidence of the people.

He equally appreciated members of the Campaign Council and various committees for their dedication and sacrifices throughout the electioneering period, while also extending gratitude to Governor Oyebanji and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for their invaluable support to the APC in Ekiti State.

The Ekiti State Government says it will commence distribution of subsidised agrochemicals to farmers across the state on Monday as part of efforts to boost agricultural productivity and strengthen food security.

The Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Mr Ebenezer Boluwade, disclosed this in a statement on Friday in Ado-Ekiti.

Boluwade said the flag-off ceremony would be held at 10 a.m. on July 20 at the Fadama Office, New Secretariat, Ado-Ekiti.

He said the initiative was aimed at reducing production costs for farmers while improving agricultural output across the state.

According to him, the programme underscores the commitment of Gov. Biodun Oyebanji's administration to supporting farmers and promoting sustainable agricultural development.

The commissioner invited farmers, agricultural stakeholders and members of the public to attend the ceremony.

The newly inaugurated National Vice President (External Affairs) of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Comrade Sadiq SK Zango, has unveiled a strategic engagement agenda aimed at strengthening partnerships between NANS and key national and international institutions.

Speaking shortly after his inauguration, Comrade Zango emphasized that the Office of the National Vice President (External Affairs) would prioritize constructive engagement with government institutions, the private sector, diplomatic missions, development partners, civil society organizations, and international agencies to expand opportunities available to Nigerian students.

According to him, the challenges confronting education require collaboration rather than confrontation.

“The future of Nigerian students depends on our ability to build strategic partnerships that translate into scholarships, leadership development, entrepreneurship support, innovation, technology transfer, research opportunities, international exchanges, and sustainable youth empowerment.”

He noted that the Office of External Affairs would pursue a diplomacy-driven approach that promotes dialogue, mutual respect, and institutional cooperation while safeguarding the interests of Nigerian students.

Comrade Zango called on public institutions, corporate organizations, donor agencies, alumni associations, and well-meaning Nigerians to collaborate with NANS in creating sustainable opportunities that prepare students for national development and global competitiveness.

He reaffirmed that the 2026 National Leadership of NANS remains committed to responsible engagement, professionalism, and impactful partnerships that will benefit millions of students across the Federation.

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has commended the Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) for his visionary commitment to strengthening youth participation in national development through a proposed framework that would involve representatives of the National Association of Nigerian Students in the Scheme’s nationwide sensitization and public enlightenment activities.

The commendation follows a high-level strategic engagement between the leadership of the NYSC and a delegation from the National Secretariat of NANS, led by the National Vice President (External Affairs), Comr. Sadiq SK Zango, at the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters in Abuja.

One of the major highlights of the engagement was the Director-General’s indication that the Scheme intends to provide an opportunity for two or three executives of the National Association of Nigerian Students to participate in the NYSC’s national sensitization and advocacy engagements across tertiary institutions and other relevant platforms.

According to the Director-General, the proposed participation is intended to strengthen communication with students, improve awareness of the NYSC Scheme, and deepen collaboration with key youth stakeholders in promoting national unity, civic responsibility, and graduate preparedness.

Reacting to the development, Comr. Sadiq SK Zango described the initiative as a bold and forward-looking demonstration of inclusive leadership.

“The Director-General’s proposal reflects a deep appreciation of the value of constructive stakeholder engagement. It recognizes that meaningful youth participation is not only about consultation but also about creating opportunities for young people to contribute directly to national programmes that shape their future.”

He noted that Nigerian students constitute the overwhelming majority of prospective Corps Members and that closer collaboration between the NYSC and NANS would significantly improve information dissemination, reduce misinformation, and strengthen graduate preparedness before mobilisation.

Comr. Zango further stated that the proposed inclusion of NANS representatives in nationwide sensitization activities would provide an additional platform for ensuring that verified information reaches students across universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, and other tertiary institutions through established student leadership structures.

He expressed confidence that such collaboration would complement the NYSC’s existing public engagement efforts while promoting stronger stakeholder confidence in the Scheme.

The National Association of Nigerian Students also applauded the Director-General for his openness to innovative ideas and his willingness to deepen institutional collaboration with organized student leadership in pursuit of shared national objectives.

NANS reaffirmed its readiness to work closely with the NYSC in advancing public enlightenment, pre-mobilisation awareness, entrepreneurship education, graduate development, and other initiatives that promote national unity and youth empowerment.

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has commenced nationwide mobilization ahead of a peaceful solidarity march scheduled to hold in Awka, Anambra State, on Monday, 20th July, 2026, following the continued detention of student leaders in connection with a matter the Association believes deserves fair, lawful, and timely resolution.

Speaking on behalf of the National Secretariat, the National Vice President (External Affairs), Comrade Sadiq SK Zango, reaffirmed that the Nigerian student movement remains resolute in defending the constitutional rights, welfare, and dignity of Nigerian students through lawful and responsible engagement.

According to him, the planned mobilization is intended to demonstrate the unity of Nigerian students while calling for adherence to due process, fairness, and respect for the rights of all citizens.

“NANS remains committed to constructive engagement, the rule of law, and peaceful advocacy. Our collective voice has always been a force for justice, accountability, and national development. We therefore urge all participating students to conduct themselves peacefully, responsibly, and in accordance with the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

The Office of the National Vice President (External Affairs) called on Student Union Governments (SUGs), Joint Campus Committees (JCCs), Zonal Leaderships, NANS stakeholders, alumni, and student leaders across the Federation to support the resolutions of the NANS Senate through peaceful participation and coordinated engagement.

The Association also appealed to the Nigeria Police Force, other security agencies, and relevant authorities to ensure adequate security for all participants and to uphold the constitutional rights of citizens to peaceful assembly and lawful expression.

“Nigerian students have consistently remained partners in nation-building. We believe that dialogue, justice, and adherence to due process remain the most effective pathways to resolving disputes involving members of the student community,” Comrade Zango added.

As preparations continue, NANS reiterated its commitment to promoting stability within the education sector while remaining unwavering in protecting the legitimate interests of Nigerian students.

The Association urged all participants to maintain the highest standards of discipline, responsibility, and peaceful conduct throughout the exercise.

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), the foremost umbrella body representing millions of Nigerian students across tertiary institutions nationwide, has officially inaugurated its 2026 National Leadership at a colourful and well-attended ceremony held on Tuesday, 14 July 2026, at the NAF Conference Centre, Kado, Abuja.

The historic event brought together an impressive gathering of government officials, distinguished public office holders, traditional leaders, development partners, corporate executives, youth leaders, civil society organizations, student leaders, alumni, and friends of the Nigerian student movement, all united by a shared commitment to strengthening education, youth leadership, and national development.

Among those inaugurated was Comrade Sadiq SK Zango, who formally assumed office as the National Vice President (External Affairs) of the National Association of Nigerian Students.

Speaking shortly after the inauguration, Comrade Zango described the occasion as “not merely the commencement of a tenure, but the beginning of a renewed commitment to responsible leadership, constructive engagement, and impactful service to Nigerian students.”

According to him:

“The confidence reposed in this administration by Nigerian students comes with enormous responsibility. He also paid tribute to the National President and members of the National Executive Council, emphasizing that the administration would be driven by teamwork, unity, professionalism, and a shared vision for a stronger and more responsive National Association of Nigerian Students.
