Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji has recalled former Commissioner for Information, Rt. Hon Taiwo Olatunbosun back to the state executive council.

The development came barely a week after the Governor announced the dissolution of the state executive council. 

Olatunbosun, according to the recall letter signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof Habaibat Adubiaro, and dated August 18, 2025, is to continue to function as Commissioner for Information.

The recall is with immediate effect.

To sustain the tempo of development, peace and  stability and engender campaign strategy that can spin a winning streak, high profile All Progressives Congress  stakeholders in Ekiti State have insisted that Governor Biodun Oyebanji and Chief (Mrs) Monisade Afuye joint ticket remains the best for the state till 2030.

This was part of the resolutions reached by APC leaders and members across the 11 Wards of Ikere Local Government, at their well attended expanded ward meeting held on 18th August, 2025, held at Ojude BAO , Ikere Ekiti.

At the gathering, the ranks of the party further swelled, as  it received scores of defectors from the major opposition People's Democratic Party and other smaller parties into APC.

The motion for the adoption of Governor Oyebanji and Mrs Afuye was moved by a former member of the National Assembly, Hon Francis Aladejebi and seconded by an ex-Ekiti State House of Assembly Majority Leader, Hon.Kayode  Babade.

Going by the aggregate of the submissions of contributors at the meeting, the stakeholders averred that  they took the action in the overall interest of the state, saying they won't sacrifice the peace and stability of the state on the altar of dirty politics.

The stakeholders, comprising political juggernauts and opinion moulders, in their resolutions, unitedly stood form by the endorsement verdict earlier passed on Governor Oyebanji to run for second term alongside his Deputy, Mrs Afuye to pilot the affairs of the state till 2030.

In a manner suggestive of a passage of vote of confidence in leadership, the APC stalwarts, endorsed and ratified Mrs Afuye's renomination for the  joint ticket with Governor Oyebanji, on account of her unflagging loyalty, sacrifice and competence in service delivery.

In an assertive fashion, the APC leaders stoutly rejected the call for Mrs Afuye's substitution under any guise as being mooted in a certain quarters, saying this may spell doom for the party on account of her loyalty and political strength across strata.

They said: "That the entire leaders/ members of APC in Ikere LG have unshakeable confidence in Governor Biodun Oyebanji/Monisade Afuye's workable joint ticket for another term.

"The unanimous decision stemmed from the rapid development, stability and peace  being witnessed in Ekiti State through the duo's working relationship since October 16,2022.

"We commend Governor Biodun Oyebanji for gleefully accepting Chief (Mrs) Monisade Afuye's nomination without opposition", they concluded.

Speaking at the political gathering,  the APC State Chairman, Hon. Sola Elesin, described the deputy Governor as an upright, loyal and straightforward politician, who has worked hard with Governor Oyebanji to ramp  up development in the state.

Elesin also debunked the swirling insinuation that the three most prominent leaders: Governor Oyebanji, former Governors Niyi Adebayo and Dr. Kayode Fayemi are at loggerheads, while puncturing the notion that some APC leaders were contemplating defection to the coalition African Democratic Congress( ADC).

"It was sad that anybody will rise up from Ikere Local Government and said we should drop the Deputy Governor from the joint ticket with Governor Oyebanji. We won't change a winning team and it is on Oyebanji/Afuye joint ticket that we stand. We have not changed at the state level.

"This cheap gossips only exist on social media, we have not heard about it at the state level. Let me also tell you that all our leaders are united and operate in one accord. No faction at all in our party".

Former National Assembly member, Senator Tony Adeniyi, a former Commissioner, Hon. Dapo Karounwi and an APC leader in Ado Local Government, Chief Remi Oguntuase, said it will be calamitous for the ruling party to change a winning team  in 2026 as represented by Oyebanji and Afuye.

In anticipation of his running for a second term as the Governor of Ekiti State under the umbrella of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, come 2026, the alumni Association of Ekiti State University, EKSU, under the aegis of EKSU Alumni Solidarity Group for BAO has purchased both the Expression of Interest and Nomination forms for Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji. 

Representatives of the group were at the national secretariat of the Party in Abuja on Monday to pick the forms in fulfilment of their promise to give maximum support to the Governor, who is also an alumnus of the University. 

In the words of the Immediate Past President of the alumni, Engr Dipo Bamisaiye, not minding the cost of the form, it was their desire to ensure that Oyebanji, who had not disappointed them during his first term in office, serves the second term as the Constitution approves. 

"It is our mantra that one of us is better than none of us, and as such, we have associated ourselves keenly with the second term ambition of the incumbent Governor, who has neither foresaken nor disappointed us in the course of his first term in office."

The alumni group said they were able to raise N75 million for the purchase of the form, which they claimed was the first phase of their fund-raising. 

EKSU may appear as not so big at inception, but now we are a great institution and this is even made possible by Governor Oyebanji who has not despised his little beginning as one of us. If he had done so much in the first instance, we are assured he will do even more in the second term."

"The fact that we, the alumni have raised such money to pick the ticket for the Governor who is one of us, will show the people in the state that Mr. Governor is admired and loved by us."

On what the members of the alumni will further do to ensure the victory for the governor, both at the primary and general elections, Engr Bamisaiye, who is also the Director General of the EKSU Alumni Solidarity Group for BAO, said they would mobilise themselves and the good people of the state, further pooling resources to support him. 

While receiving the representatives of the group into his office, the National Organising Secretary of the Party, Alhaji Suleiman Argungu, praised the representatives for their good intention and support for their colleague, saying they had come in good time to collect the form and would have enough time to complete it. 

He added that in his opinion based on what he had heard so far from the people of the state, the governor had performed creditably well to earn a second term in office. 

Those in the delegation with Engr Bamisaye include the former Global President, Dr. Oludotun Adetunberu and the current Vice President, Mrs. Hellen Folasade Olaofe Olusegun. 

Others are Chief Jide Awe, Comrade Segun Dipe and Barrister Bayo Idowu, all members of the Alumni Association of Ekiti State University, EKSU, Ado Ekiti.

The historic town of Ikogosi, famed for its mystical warm springs, is set to host the 2nd Ikogosi 17.5km Road Race on November 8, 2025, marking another bold step in Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s mission to make Ekiti the tourism hub of Nigeria.

Since assuming office, Governor Oyebanji has embarked on a series of massive road and power infrastructure projects, repositioned Ekiti United and the Ekiti Queens, upgraded key road networks and sporting facilities, and created an investor-friendly environment. Venite University athletes continued their impressive outing at the ongoing Nigerian Private Universities Games Association (NPUGA) holding at Babcock University, Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State.

The institution’s sprint sensation, Edelegba Benedicta, powered her way into the semi-finals of the women’s 200 metres after finishing second in her heat. Teammate, Marvelous, also put up a commendable performance, crossing the line in fifth position. Benedicta will be the centre of attention today as she bids for a place in the final.

In football, Venite University’s male team sealed a dramatic 3-2 victory over Pan-Atlantic University to advance to the Round of 16. The win sets up a crucial clash against Bells University scheduled for 2:30pm today.

With confidence running high in both track and football events, the Venite camp is brimming with belief as they aim to continue their fine form at the Games.

The most pro-demcracy and leading pro-governor Abiodun Oyebanji's support group, Oyebanji Street Vanguard (OSV) has once again commended the good people of Ekiti State for their maximum support and cooperation with the present administration of All Progressives Congress under the leadership of His Excellency, Governor Abiodun Abayomi Oyebanji in putting the State in the path of meaningful development. 

The group, specifically thanked the people for their show of maturity, understanding and putting the collective interests of the State ahead above the provocation of few hired stage crafters in attempt to lampoon the ruling party and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, _gcfr_ on the deplorable nature of Federal roads leading in and out of the State as a result of long neglect of the access roads.

The group noticed that, Ekiti State is strategically located as a gateway to movement of heavy, medium and light trucks from the North to the West and vice versa along with increasing commercial activities in the State due to the ambience of safety, peace and tranquility guaranteed by the present administration. 

The group however agreed that in the absence of any reasonable ground to challenge and criticise the present administration based on all good governance benchmarks, the few opportunities with critical view have no option other than blaming the deplorable Federal Government road networks in the State on the State Government despite the meaningful and physical achievements in internal State road networks. 

Between the 1900s and 1920s, colonial roads were developed sometimes over existing straightened and cleared footpaths that were previously used for trade. Among those built  were, Lagos - Ibadan, Ibadan - Ijebu-Ode, roads linking Ilesha, Akure, Ondo, Benin and Sapele in the West.

1974, some roads previously maintained by the states were transferred to the Federal Government, which created a classification called Trunk F roads.

 The Federal Highways Act is not directly embedded within the Nigeria Constitution. Instead, it's a separate legislation that governs the management, direction, and control of federal highways in Nigeria. This act vests powers in the Minister of Works and Housing for 

- Planning and Designing Federal Highways

- Construction and Maintenance

- Supervision of Users

The Federal Highways Act was established in 1971, and its provisions cover various aspects of highway management, including 

The law guiding the Nigeria Highway Code is rooted in the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) Act, established in 1988 through Decree No. 45, later amended by Decree 35 of 1992 and referred to as the FRSC Act cap 141 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria (LFN). This act empowers the FRSC to:

- Prevent and minimize accidents on highways

- Educate motorists and the public on highway discipline

- Determine and enforce speed limits for roads and vehicles

- Regulate vehicle safety standards

Additionally, the Federal Highways Act governs the construction, maintenance, and management of federal highways in Nigeria. This act vests powers in the Minister of Works and Housing for

- Planning and designing federal highways

- Constructing and maintaining highways

- Supervising highway users and regulating traffic

In a statement by the group, the group congratulated the good people of the Ekiti State for their resilience, maturity even in the face of provocation by some fifth columnists, and their support for the present administration.   The group also commended the efforts of Governor Oyebanji for tackling the mirages of our road networks.

However, the group reminded the entire people that it is in an atmosphere of peace and political stability built on the platform of continuity of good governance that developments can continue to take speed in the State. The state can be positioned to attract more federal government attentions with resilience and support to the government administration of Gov Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji.
