Boluwade Roots for Oyebanji’s Continuity, Says Ekiti Agriculture on Steady Rise.
By Olamide Akinwumi
The Ekiti State Commissioner for Agriculture, Ebenezer Boluwade, has lauded Governor Biodun Oyebanji for what he described as the remarkable transformation of the state’s agricultural sector since the administration assumed office in 2022.
Boluwade, who spoke with newsmen in Ado Ekiti, said the sector had recorded steady growth through deliberate government interventions aimed at boosting food production, creating jobs, and encouraging youth participation in farming.
According to him, the state government had cleared over 5,000 hectares of farmland across Ekiti to enhance productivity and improve access for farmers.
He noted that one of the administration’s flagship programmes, the Bring Back Youth to Agriculture (BBYA) initiative, had empowered about 5,000 young people who are now actively involved in various agricultural ventures such as crop production, animal husbandry, and agribusiness.
“The BBYA has rekindled interest in agriculture among the youth and opened up new opportunities in the agro sector,” Boluwade said.
Speaking on efforts to address security challenges in rural farming communities, the commissioner explained that the Oyebanji-led government had intensified actions to curb open grazing and promote peaceful coexistence between farmers and herders.
He disclosed that herders were being supported with access to grass, feed, and assistance to establish ranches — measures he said would reduce clashes and promote stability in farming areas.
Boluwade further noted that the state government remained open to agribusiness and partnerships, adding that Ekiti had strengthened collaborations with the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMET), the World Bank, and other development partners to promote climate-smart agricultural practices and improve resilience.
While congratulating Governor Oyebanji on his emergence as the All Progressives Congress (APC) flag bearer for the 2026 governorship election, Boluwade emphasized the importance of policy consistency and continuity in governance.
“Development is a long-term process. Sustained policies and committed leadership are crucial to consolidating the gains we have made,” he added.
