EKSG allays fear over insecurity in neighbouring states, says gov’t on top of security situation.

EKSG allays fear over insecurity in neighbouring states, says gov’t on top of security situation.

Ekiti State Government has urged residents of the State to go about their lawful businesses without any fear of harassment or intimidation as government is in full control of security situation in the state.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, Brig-Gen. Ebenezer Ogundana (Rtd.) made this assertion in Ado-Ekiti on Monday during the quarterly security meeting involving heads of security agencies and chairmen of the 16 local government councils and 22 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs), assured residents not to panic over reports of activities of banditry in neighbouring states, stressing that Governor Biodun Oyebanji is on top of the security situation in the state.

General Ogundana affirmed that Ekiti State remains the safest state in the country based on the various measures government has put in place, especially at all the border towns to provide adequate safety for residents.

He commended residents of the state for providing necessary intelligence needed by various security outfits. This, he said, has made the state surmount all security challenges.

He also assured residents that Ekiti borders are well-secured with military and police presence against any incursion adding that the State's intelligence and surveillance network remained strong and well-coordinated.

“We've been having some unusual activities along the states bordering with Ekiti, particularly Kogi and Kwara states and these incidents have been sending unholy signals to the state to the extent that it is creating panic among the people and then we met with Mr Governor  and he directed that we should meet with all the stakeholders, so we met with traditional rulers and other stakeholders.

“Today, we are meeting the local government chairmen to be able to listen to them and ascertain what their plans are and ,  so that we can work out plans on how to ensure that we have security in all our local governments particularly the areas that are close to these turbulent states.
`
“At the same time we want to make sure that all of them are on the same page and to inform the people that the kind of panic that have been created is not true. That is the essence now, so when we finish with them they will go back home and realign their people and tell them to go about their businesses without fear.

“We want our people to be very vigilant and pay attention to small details. When they hear anything they should not cover it up. They are not in the position to assess whether that information is true or not. Let them send the information to the security agencies closer to them so that we'll be able to make an adequate response.

“We have sufficient resources at our disposal to determine whether information is true or not.

“Like what is happening in Kogi and Kwara State now, we discovered that all the farmers, the herders, the community, everybody is affected now. Everybody is running up and down there, so, we don't want that thing to escalate to us in the Ekiti state, that's why we are making all the necessary efforts to put everybody on the same page so that at least we can move ahead. Gen. Ogundana stated.

CABINET RECONSTITUTION: OYEBANJI YIELDS TO APC STAKEHOLDERS, RETURNS FORMER COMMISSIONERS TO ASSEMBLY FOR SCREENING.

CABINET RECONSTITUTION: OYEBANJI YIELDS TO APC STAKEHOLDERS, RETURNS FORMER COMMISSIONERS TO ASSEMBLY FOR SCREENING.

Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, has forwarded a list of commissioner-nominees to the State House of Assembly for screening, signalling the commencement of moves to reconstitute his cabinet.

The nominees are drawn largely from members of the previous State Executive Council dissolved by the Governor on August 10, 2025.

The decision to re-present the former commissioners, it was gathered, followed a resolution reached between the Governor, the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and other critical stakeholders in the state. Party leaders were said to have impressed on the Governor the need to retain the team in the interest of stability and unity within the APC ahead of the June 20, 2026 governorship election.

Sources within the party said stakeholders believed injecting new commissioners barely seven months to the election could be counter-productive and may create avoidable political tension.

It was also recalled that in 2023, the leadership of the APC, traditional institutions across towns and communities, and other stakeholders jointly worked with the screening committee set up by Governor Oyebanji to select and nominate commissioners and other appointees.

At the inception of his administration, Oyebanji had emphasized that the party hierarchy and community leaders would play central roles in the appointment process to ensure accountability and broaden ownership of government.

The new development was contained in a statement by the Special Adviser on Media to the Governor, Olayinka Oyebode, on Monday.

Amb. Ezekiel Ibikunle Jasper Raises Alarm Over Rising Insecurity, Urges Stronger National Response.

Ambassador Ezekiel Ibikunle Jasper, who also serves as the State Chairman of the Future Leaders Youth Initiative (FLYI), Ekiti State Chapter, has expressed deep concern over the growing threat of insecurity across Nigeria, calling on the Federal Government, state authorities, and security agencies to intensify efforts toward safeguarding lives and property.

Speaking with journalists in Abuja  after narrowly escaping a deadly attack on the Kabba–Abuja road on Thursday with Ekiti and Ondo delegates, Ibikunle recounted the terrifying incident, thanking God for preservation while lamenting the rising cases of banditry, kidnapping, and coordinated assaults on security personnel and travellers.

According to him, the attackers—suspected to be bandits—unleashed violence on the highway, kidnapped 21 People, killing a soldier, officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN). The perpetrators were not apprehended as of the time of addressing the press on Saturday at the Future Leaders Youth Initiative National Conference, Abuja

Ibikunle described the incident as “a painful reminder that Nigeria’s security architecture needs urgent reinforcement,” noting that the courage and sacrifices of security operatives must be matched with improved welfare, modern equipment, and better intelligence coordination with technicality strategies and recruit more gallant competent security personnel and focus more on Youth unemployment in the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria rather than politicizing the life of Nigerian citizens.

Ambassador Ibikunle urged the Federal Government to:
●Strengthen joint security operations to flush out criminal elements from highways and rural areas.

●Deploy advanced surveillance technologies including drones, highway cameras and early-warning systems.

●Increase the manpower of security agencies and improve their response time.

●Enhance intelligence gathering with support from Special Constabulary police in their local communities.

Boost the welfare, insurance and motivation of soldiers, police officers, FRSC officials, and other frontline personnel.

He also tasked state governments to prioritize internal security by supporting federal forces with local intelligence, special constable logistics, and community policing structures.

Ibikunle advised Nigerians to remain vigilant and adopt safety-conscious habits such as:
Avoiding late-night travel on high-risk routes.
●Sharing travel details with trusted contacts.

●Moving in convoys where possible.

●Promptly reporting suspicious movements to security agencies.

●Staying updated on security alerts and verified travel advisories.

He emphasized that citizens must treat personal safety as a priority, noting that “no journey is worth risking your life.”

Ambassador Ibikunle commended the bravery of Nigeria’s security operatives who continue to confront violent criminals despite enormous risks. He encouraged them to stay committed to their duty, assuring them that Nigerians appreciate their sacrifices.

“You are the backbone of our peace and stability. We salute your courage and pray for God’s protection over your lives. The nation must continue to support you,” he said.

Ibikunle concluded by urging all stakeholders—government, security agencies, traditional rulers, community leaders, and citizens—to unite in the fight against insecurity, describing it as a national challenge that requires coordinated and sustained action.

“The attack we escaped on Thursday and 21 people were kidnapped is one incident too many. Nigeria must rise above this, and with determination, cooperation, and the fear of God, we will overcome,” he added.
