CABINET RECONSTITUTION: OYEBANJI YIELDS TO APC STAKEHOLDERS, RETURNS FORMER COMMISSIONERS TO ASSEMBLY FOR SCREENING.
Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, has forwarded a list of commissioner-nominees to the State House of Assembly for screening, signalling the commencement of moves to reconstitute his cabinet.
The nominees are drawn largely from members of the previous State Executive Council dissolved by the Governor on August 10, 2025.
The decision to re-present the former commissioners, it was gathered, followed a resolution reached between the Governor, the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and other critical stakeholders in the state. Party leaders were said to have impressed on the Governor the need to retain the team in the interest of stability and unity within the APC ahead of the June 20, 2026 governorship election.
Sources within the party said stakeholders believed injecting new commissioners barely seven months to the election could be counter-productive and may create avoidable political tension.
It was also recalled that in 2023, the leadership of the APC, traditional institutions across towns and communities, and other stakeholders jointly worked with the screening committee set up by Governor Oyebanji to select and nominate commissioners and other appointees.
At the inception of his administration, Oyebanji had emphasized that the party hierarchy and community leaders would play central roles in the appointment process to ensure accountability and broaden ownership of government.
The new development was contained in a statement by the Special Adviser on Media to the Governor, Olayinka Oyebode, on Monday.
