The new Vice Chancetior, Professor Joshua Olalekan OGUNWOLE The Governing Council of the Federal University Oye Ekiti (FUOYE) has announced the appointment of Professor Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole as the institution’s new Vice Chancellor. 

The announcement was made by the Pro Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Senator Victor Ndoma Egba, CON, OFR, SAN, during a press briefing held in Abuja on Thursday, November 6, 2025. Professor Ogunwole will formally assume office on February 11, 2026, following the completion of the tenure of the incumbent Vice Chancellor, Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina. Senator Ndoma Egba described the selection process as rigorous, competitive, and transparent, noting that it was one of the most competitive in the university's history. According to him, a total of 83 candidates applied for the position; 64 through the online portal and 19 nominated by the Search Team, with two of the nominees also submitting online applications. Following the initial screening, 51 applicants were disqualified for failing to meet all criteria, leaving 30 candidates on the shortlist. These shortlisted applicants underwent an evidence based evaluation of their credentials and achievements, with a cut off mark of 70 percent. At the conclusion of the process, three candidates emerged as top performers with Professor Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole scoring an outstanding 89.9 percent. Professor Alonge Akindele Folarin and Professor Ajewole Moses Oludare placed second and third place respectively.

Senator Ndoma Egba noted that Professor Ogunwole’s exceptional performance, visionary leadership, and distinguished record of excellence made him the standout candidate to lead FUOYE into its next phase of growth. “We are confident that Professor Ogunwole's expertise, discipline, and visionary approach will drive the University’s continued growth and success,” the Pro Chancellor said. “His appointment represents a new chapter of innovation, excellence, and integrity for FUOYE.” 

The Pro Chancellor, however, appealed to all stakeholders to put aside rancour and divisions that may have arisen during the selection process. “The appointment of a new Vice Chancellor has generated some tension within and outside the campus,” Senator Ndoma Egba acknowledged. “By this appointment, all such rancour and acrimony should end. I urge all applicants and members of the University community to sheath their swords and join hands with the new Vice Chancellor to build a greater FUOYE.” He also expressed appreciation to the outgoing Vice Chancellor, Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina, commending him for his remarkable leadership and developmental strides. “You are leaving with your head held high,” Ndoma Egba said. “You have distinguished yourself above your predecessors, particularly in the area of infrastructural development. | congratulate you for finishing well.” — Senator Ndoma Egba further thanked members of the Governing Council for their commitment, doggedness, and thoroughness throughout the selection process, expressing gratitude for their support and understanding. Born on July 23, 1967, in lbadan, Professor Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole hails from Ogbomoso, Oyo State. A renowned soil scientist with over three decades of experience in teaching, research, and academic administration, he holds B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. degrees in Soil Science from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he began his academic career. 

He has served in various institutions, including Anmadu Bello University, Adamawa State University, Federal University Dutsin Ma, Bowen University, and the Federal University Oye Ekiti, contributing immensely to academic development, capacity building, and research advancement. As Vice Chancellor of Bowen University (2018-2023), Professor Ogunwole led major infrastructural projects, improved staff and student welfare, and achieved a financial turnaround that boosted the university's internally generated revenue and cleared inherited deficits. Before his new appointment, he served as Deputy Vice Chancellor (Strategic Partnerships, Research, Innovation, and Linkages) at FUOYE, where he championed research collaborations and innovation driven initiatives. A recipient of international fellowships such as Fulbright (USA), TWAS (India/Sri Lanka), and Alexander von Humboldt (Germany), Professor Ogunwole is also a Fellow of the African Scientific Institute (ASI) and the Soil Science Society of Nigeria (SSSN), and a Council Member of the Nigeria Institute of Soil Science (NISS). 

His tenure as FUOYE's fifth substantive Vice-Chancellor will commence on February 11, 2026.

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji has expressed satisfaction with the remarkable progress recorded by his administration in road construction and rehabilitation, noting that the road revolution has significantly changed the face of infrastructure development and brought new life to communities across the State.

The Governor, who stated this on Thursday while speaking at the opening session of the 30th Meeting of the National Council on Works (NCW) held in Ado Ekiti, said his administration remains committed to investing in infrastructure as a major drive of economic growth, social development and regional integration. 

The four- day event was attended by Commissioners for Works and Permanent Secretaries in state ministry of works across the 36 states of the Federation as well as other critical stakeholders and development partners. 

Governor Oyebanji said since the inception of his administration, the State has witnessed a renewed commitment to infrastructural development, describing the on-going road revolution as deliberate efforts to open up communities, ease transportation and improve access to market, schools and healthcare facilities.

While commending President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led federal government for its commitment to infrastructural development in the state through interventions in some of the federal roads, the Governor explained that his administration has also complemented the gesture by embarking on the repairs of the Ado-Iworoko-Ifaki dual carriage way which is a federal road.

 “Since inception, our administration has made significant strides in infrastructure development; we have embarked on road revolution in all nooks and crannies of our dear State. We are proud of the progress we have made in road constructions and rehabilitations. However, we also recognize that there is still much work to be done. We need to continue to invest in our infrastructure, support innovations and research, and foster collaboration between government, industry and academia.

“While appreciating President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his commitment to infrastructural development in Ekiti State through his interventions on some federal roads, our administration has also complemented this gesture by embarking on the repairs of the Ado-Iworoko-Ifaki dual carriage federal road”, the  Governor asserted.

Earlier in his address, the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, who was represented by the Minister of State for Works, Hon Bello Muhammad, commended both President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Oyebanji for their shared commitment to infrastructure development, noting that the partnership between the federal and state governments has continue to yield results under the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President.

 

The Minister particularly commended Governor Oyebanji for the successful completion of the Ekiti Agro-Allied International Airport, describing it as a landmark project that has repositioned the state for greater economic growth and investment opportunities. 

Highlighting the importance of the National Council on Works meeting, the minister said it is a critical forum for reshaping the future of infrastructure delivery and engineering policy in Nigeria and that it also allows  to reflect, recalibrate and re-strategized, drawing from the experience and expertise of stakeholders across federal, state and local levels.

The Minister explained that the meeting is expected to promote accountability in project delivery, invest in research and modern technologies, empower engineers with tools and training, monitor and evaluate rigorously and more importantly, serve Nigerians with discipline, professionalism, integrity and excellence.

He assured that the Federal Ministry of Works remains committed to innovative practices, such as use of digital project monitoring, introduction of geotechnical mapping and data tools for road design and maintenance, encourage local content and indigenous technology, among others.  

In his welcome address, the Ekiti State Commissioner for Works, Mr Sola Adebayo, who thanked the federal ministry of works for allowing the state to host the council meeting, said it was a testament to the State’s growing reputation as a hub of responsible governance and infrastructural innovation. 

Adebayo expressed confident that the deliberations at this Council will yield actionable resolutions that will strengthen collaborations between the Federal and the State Governments, improve funding mechanisms, promote the use of modern technologies and indigenous materials in construction and more importantly, it will reinforce collective resolve to build roads and infrastructure that stand the test of time and connects not just places but also opportunities and people.

Ekiti State took another bold step in advancing digital healthcare education on Wednesday as Governor Biodun Oyebanji commissioned a 250-capacity Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Centre at the College of Nursing Sciences, Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH), Ado-Ekiti.

The ultra-modern ICT facility, equipped with cutting-edge computers, networking systems, and solar-powered backup, underscores the Oyebanji administration’s commitment to leveraging technology for educational and healthcare excellence in the state.

In his remarks, Governor Oyebanji explained that the new ICT Centre was designed to improve education and healthcare training through technology, ensuring that nursing students are better equipped for 21st-century medical practice.

 “This centre is more than just a computer hub—it is a gateway to modern healthcare education,” Oyebanji said.

“Our goal is to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world clinical applications by leveraging digital technology.”

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s determination to sustain the momentum of progress through strategic investments in education, healthcare, roads, and technology, pledging that similar facilities would be replicated across other state-owned institutions.

The newly inaugurated Health Technology ICT Centre features an extensive range of digital and infrastructural components, including computing systems, network infrastructure, renewable energy backup, and modern audio-visual facilities aimed at promoting digital health innovation among nursing students.

The new ICT Centre is expected to serve as a transformative hub for digital learning, enabling students to acquire hands-on experience with modern healthcare technologies, simulation systems, and virtual learning tools.

Experts at the event noted that the facility would also enhance research, online collaboration, and telemedicine readiness among nursing students—ensuring that Ekiti produces health professionals capable of adapting to global digital health standards.

Governor Oyebanji reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building a technologically empowered healthcare workforce, adding that similar ICT facilities would soon be replicated across other tertiary institutions in the state.

With this development, Ekiti State continues to position itself as a model for digital innovation in education and healthcare across Nigeria.

The Secretary to the Ekiti State Government (SSG), Prof. (Mrs.) Habibat Adubiaro, has marked her 60th birthday in a heartwarming way by celebrating with children at the Therapy Centre for Children with Disabilities, Oke-Oriomi, Ado-Ekiti.

Prof. Adubiaro, accompanied by her husband, children and staff of the Office of the SSG, brought joy to the facility with generous donations, including toiletries, instructional materials, stationery and assorted food items; with the visit creating an atmosphere of excitement among the children and staff of the Centre.

Speaking during the event, the SSG described the day as very special in her life, noting that she deliberately chose to celebrate it with children with disabilities rather than organize a lavish party.

"I see today that I clocked 60 years as a special day in my life. I just thought of visiting the children with disabilities instead of lavishing money and throwing big party. I just put resources together and thought of giving them the gifts that I believed will go a long way in adding value to their lives," she said. 

Prof. Adubiaro explained that she had, over the years, consistently reached out to special schools, particularly the School for the blind in Ikere Ekiti, but decided to extend her gesture this year to the Therapy Centre in Ado-Ekiti as part of her diamond jubilee celebration.

The SSG noted that her action was inspired by the advice and compassionate leadership style of Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, who, according to her, has always marked his birthday with people living with disabilities (PWDs). 

She praised the governor for his inclusive policies, including the creation of the Department of Special Education and Social Inclusion; the first of its kind in Ekiti State.

Prof. Adubiaro urged other intending birthday celebrants to emulate the gesture by visiting special schools and motherless babies’ homes rather than spending excessively on social parties, emphasizing that such acts of kindness bring greater fulfillment and lasting impact.

She also expressed joy over the visible improvements recorded among some of the children, commending Governor Oyebanji for creating an enabling environment that supports children with special needs in the state.

In her goodwill message, the Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Department, Mrs. Kayode Ojo, commended Prof. Adubiaro for her kindness and thoughtful gesture and lauded her for following the exemplary footsteps of Governor Oyebanji, urging other government officials to do the same.

Receiving the SSG and her entourage, the Director of the Therapy Centre for Children with Disabilities, Mrs. Amogbonjaiye Bola Felicia, expressed deep appreciation to Prof. Adubiaro for the visit and donations.

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, has challenged health workers in the state to make the best use of modern equipment provided across government hospitals to deliver healthcare with compassion and uphold the highest level of professional standards.

Governor Oyebanji gave the challenge at the inauguration of the newly renovated and equiped General Hospital, Ifaki Ekiti in commemoration of the third  anniversary of his  administration.

Oyebanji said his government remained committed more than ever to keep raising the standard of healthcare in all the towns and villages in Ekiti, warning against self medication that could subject citizens to untimely death or infirmity. 

Represented by the Deputy Governor Chief (Mrs) Monisade Afuye, Governor Oyebanji, challenged Ekiti residents to take ownership of the health facilities in their domains, protect them from being damaged, support staff and management of the hospitals in line with government vision to achieve a healthy society.

Governor Oyebanji pointed out that the huge investments in the health sector was aimed to make quality healthcare more accessible and effective for the people in rural areas.

"Our doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, I urge you to make the best use of this facility and the equipment provided, deliver care with compassion, uphold the highest professional standards and let this new environment inspire excellence".

The Governor stated further that all the investments in.the health sector have one purpose, which is to make quality healthcare more accessible and effective for the people of Ifaki and neighbouring communities.

The Governor itemized  the modern equipment provided across the Ekiti State General Hospitals to include ,theatre hall  with anesthesia machine, operating tables with accessories, instrument and Mayo tables, a mobile theatre operating light, suction pump, 300-watt diathermy, patient monitor, defibrillator, stainless steel cabinet, stretcher, IV poles. and light box. 

The Ekiti State number citizen affirmed that all the projects commissioned reflected his government stands for steady progress built on service, compassion, and accountability.

"The Recovery Room, we have provided an electric recovery bed, resuscitation bags, nebulizers, glucometers, patient monitors, and laryngoscopes thus ensuring smooth and well-supported post-operative care, while the Laboratory has been re-equipped with a bench-top centrifuge, blood count analyser, electrolyte analyser, hormone to enable fast, analyser, and semi-auto chemistry analyser accurate, and reliable test results for better diagnosis and treatment."

The Commissioner for Health and Human Services Dr Oyebanji Filani, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Hospitals' Management Board, Dr Olasnkanmi Alabi pointed out that administration of Governor Biodun Oyebanji has renovated and equiped five General Hospitals in the state to make quality healthcare accessible for the people at the grassroots.

"We have we have about five facilities that has enjoyed this graciousness from His Excellency. We've done Ilawe, we've done Okeimesi, now we're in Ifaki and we'll still be going to some other facilities after this. So we want to appreciate His Excellency for this goodwill, what He has done for us. He has not only renovated, he has equipped hospitals with state-of-the-art equipment".

In his remarks, the Olufaki of Ifaki Ekiti, Oba John Falore recalled that some months back, when he visited the General Hospital, he was nearly crying, saying that all the units at the health facility was leaking with pool of water and appreciated the quick response of Governor Oyebanji to their outcry over the poor condition of the hospital.

Oba Falore  said"I remember some months back, anybody that has visited this place in the recent time would know the terrible condition of our general hospital, terribly leaking like a pool . I remember I was here around 1 a.m to see the

situation of the place, I was almost crying.

"We called the government and we were so happy that he responded to our call and the commissioner came the second day and assured us that the hospital will be renovated and fully equipped and as we have it today we can see the situation of the general hospital the need has been transformed".

In a bold move to strengthen healthcare delivery across Ekiti State, Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji on Wednesday commissioned the newly renovated General Hospital in Ifaki-Ekiti, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to providing accessible and quality healthcare for all residents.

The hospital, which now boasts modern medical facilities and improved infrastructure, is expected to serve residents of Ifaki, Orin, Aaye, and neighbouring communities — drastically reducing the burden of travelling long distances for medical attention.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Governor Oyebanji said the renovation forms part of his administration’s holistic approach to revitalizing the state’s health sector, adding that no community in Ekiti would be left behind in the drive for equitable healthcare delivery.

“Our goal is to ensure that every Ekiti resident, irrespective of location, can access quality healthcare in a clean and well-equipped environment. Health is wealth, and our people deserve the best,” the governor said.

He commended the state’s Ministry of Health, contractors, and community leaders for their cooperation, noting that the project reflects his administration’s focus on continuity, collaboration, and community development.

Residents of Ifaki, Orin, and Aaye, who trooped out in large numbers to witness the event, expressed appreciation to the governor for what they described as a “timely intervention” that would save lives and improve living conditions.

Health workers also lauded the state government’s investment in modern medical equipment, electricity supply, and patient-friendly wards, which they said would enhance service delivery and staff morale.

The commissioning of the Ifaki General Hospital adds to a growing list of health projects under Governor Oyebanji’s administration, including the ongoing rehabilitation of primary healthcare centres and the expansion of emergency medical services across the state.

With the latest development, Ekiti residents say the governor is “walking the talk” on his promise to make quality healthcare a cornerstone of his administration’s human capital development agenda.

As the political tempo rises across Ekiti State ahead of the next governorship contest, stakeholders from every local government area have begun to assess the credibility and strength of political parties jostling to challenge the steady hand of governance under Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji (BAO).

Among these, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) stands out  not for strength or structure, but for its glaring weakness and lack of political substance. The party’s relevance in Ekiti politics remains, at best, a fleeting mirage.

A Party Without Weight or Structure:

Despite recent attempts at publicity and internal reorganization, the ADC’s political standing in Ekiti State remains fragile and disjointed. The party has no federal or legislative representation — not a single seat in the National Assembly, House of Representatives, or Ekiti State House of Assembly.

Observers describe the ADC’s operations as a “paper coalition” without the capacity, structure, or grassroots connection to challenge a performance-driven government like that of Oyebanji’s APC-led administration.

Even within its fold, the ADC continues to battle leadership crises and internal factions, exposing its lack of cohesion and political depth.

Oyebanji: The Face of Continuity and Inclusive Governance:

Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji has continued to distinguish himself as a leader committed to shared prosperity, inclusiveness, and accountable governance.

Under his leadership, Ekiti has witnessed remarkable progress across sectors  from education, infrastructure, and healthcare to youth empowerment and diaspora engagement. His government reflects the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, embodying transparency, competence, and people oriented progress.

Oyebanji’s inclusive style has given voice to traditional rulers, elders, professionals, women, and youths, ensuring that every Ekiti citizen home and abroad has a stake in the future of the state.

No Room for Political Harakiri:

Political analysts and opinion leaders have therefore advised Ekiti people not to be lured into political harakiri by the deceptive allure of structureless and power hungry elements seeking attention under the ADC platform.

Without federal presence, national recognition, or legislative influence, the ADC lacks the strength to influence Ekiti’s future or sustain the pace of development already set by Oyebanji’s administration.

The Verdict

As the countdown to another election cycle begins, the choice before Ekiti people is clear,between tested governance and political experimentation.

The ADC, bereft of structure or substance, offers no tangible blueprint for continuity or prosperity. Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, on the other hand, represents stability, inclusion, and visionary governance qualities that have earned him the admiration and trust of Ekiti citizens both at home and in the diaspora.

Ekiti’s progress must not be gambled away on a political mirage. The path of shared prosperity must continue under a government that works for all.
