Hon. (AVM Rtd) Ojuawo Rufus Adeniyi, representing Ekiti South Federal Constituency 1, has expressed deep sympathy for victims of the recent devastating rainstorm in Ado-Ekiti. The storm caused significant damage to homes and businesses, leaving many residents in distress.

Hon. Ojuawo conveyed his shock over the incident and urged affected individuals to find solace in their resilience, describing the event as an act of God. He commended Governor Oyebanji for his swift reaction, sending a team to assess the impact on affected homes and public buildings.

Hon. Ojuawo pledged to work alongside the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to assess the damage and determine the scale of support required. He emphasized the importance of immediate action tou ensure those impacted receive necessary support and resources to rebuild their lives.

It was a festival of praise, joy, and heartfelt admiration on Monday morning as the staff and management of Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government, Igede Ekiti, rolled out the drums in a grand welcome for the newly posted Head of Local Government Administration (HLA), Mrs Akinbobola Deborah-B.

The well-attended reception, held at the NULGE Hall, radiated warmth and unity as staff members greeted the incoming administrator with spirited dances, cheers, and chants of goodwill. The air was electric with celebration, reflecting the excitement that her arrival has sparked across the ranks.

In her stirring address, Mrs Akinbobola expressed profound gratitude for the unparalleled welcome and emphasized her eagerness to familiarize herself with the hardworking staff. She acknowledged the strong turnout as a testament to the workforce’s commitment and solidarity—qualities she believes will define her administration.

“I am here to work with you, learn from you, and achieve visible milestones with you. With your support, and by the grace of the Almighty, we shall leave indelible footprints in this administration,” she said.



The HLA did not mince words in setting the tone for the future. She called on all staff to maintain professionalism, punctuality, and dedication to duty, urging them to separate personal business from official responsibilities. She stressed the importance of upholding service rules and maintaining loyalty, reminding everyone that no one is perfect and that humility should guide their engagements.

 “Let us be frugal, diligent, and united in service. We must not attempt to sabotage our leaders but rather strengthen our bond as one family,” she advised.


Mrs Akinbobola also appealed for cooperation, reiterating that she is part and parcel of the NULGE family. With characteristic humility, she requested that staff see her not as a demi-god, but as a relatable leader open to engagement and support.

On staff welfare, she acknowledged the endless nature of human needs but promised to address key concerns within available means. She passionately encouraged staff to pursue academic advancement and prioritize their health, saying:

 “Your well-being is paramount. Your goals must translate into measurable achievements. Invest in your growth.”



In a rare display of generosity and love, the HLA gifted the staff N20,000 for immediate refreshments, a gesture that was met with thunderous applause.

NULGE Chairman, Comrade Aina Festus-Olawole, in his response, pledged unalloyed loyalty and outstanding cooperation on behalf of the entire workforce.

 “Madam HLA, we are ready to surpass your expectations. Your humility and vision have already won our hearts,” he said.



He also made a heartfelt appeal for the improvement of financial assistance schemes for staff, noting their critical impact on staff morale.

Director of Administration, Prince Adegoke Peter, described Mrs Akinbobola’s mission and vision as “bold, inspiring, and people-driven,” stating:

 “Her energy is infectious. This is the leadership we’ve been hoping for.”


Mrs Odeyemi, Director of Budget, Planning and Research, said:

 “This is simply awesome! I am filled with hope for a new chapter that puts the staff at the center of progress.”


Mrs Kehinde Akode, Director of WASH, said:

“Mrs Akinbobola’s entrance has brought renewed optimism. Her words reflect the voice of a compassionate and visionary leader ready to uplift everyone.”



Mr Asubiojo, Director of Information and Civil Orientation, added:

 “We believe in her. Her values resonate with us—integrity, dedication, and humanity. We are poised to amplify her vision through effective communication and orientation.”



In her concluding remarks, the HLA urged all staff to continue supporting the administration of the Governor, praising his steadfast commitment to workers’ welfare, including prompt payment of salaries, deductions, and leave bonuses. She emphasized that such gestures deserve nothing but continued dedication and loyalty from the workforce.

Indeed, the day marked not just a ceremonial welcome, but the beginning of a new era—an era of collaboration, transparency, and visionary leadership.

Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, has approved the release of N182 million for the payment of bursaries and undergraduate scholarships to indigenes of the state in tertiary institutions across Nigeria for the 2024/2025 academic session.

Chairman of the Ekiti State Scholarship Board, Hon. Wole Adebola (Esq.), disclosed this in Ado-Ekiti on Sunday, noting that the gesture is part of the governor's commitment to youth development and aligns with his Shared Prosperity Agenda.

According to Adebola, 3,084 students will benefit from bursaries totaling N61.68 million, while another 1,502 students will receive undergraduate scholarships amounting to N120.36 million.

He added that the beneficiaries were selected after a thorough screening and verification exercise conducted in collaboration with their respective institutions.

“The process was rigorous and transparent. This is in line with the governor’s directive that only qualified students benefit from the scheme,” he said.

Adebola also disclosed that the disbursement of scholarships for Master’s and PhD students will commence soon.

He thanked Governor Oyebanji for his unwavering support for education and praised the Commissioner for Education, Dr. (Mrs) Kofoworola Olabimpe Aderiye (mni), for her efforts. He also commended the Executive Secretary of the Board, Mrs. Bukola Faluyi, and her team for completing the verification exercise diligently.

Meanwhile, the Board has assured that payments to eligible students will begin shortly.

The governor of Ekiti State, Biodun Oyebanji, on Monday distributed a staggering sum of N155 million as compensation to those whose property were acquired for the construction of Ikere-Akure dualisation project.
Oyebanji assured the citizens that embarking on projects that will add value and create vistas of economic activities and business development, will continue to dominate the priority lists of his administration.


Oyebanji gave the assurance, on Monday, while flagging off the disbursement of compensation to those whose property were destroyed for the dualisation of Ikere-Akure dual carriage way.


The governor, represented by the Deputy Governor, Chief (Mrs) Monisade Afuye, said the road was conceptualised to bolster business activities and enhance transportation system between Ekiti and Ondo States.
“This project is not just an infrastructural intervention, it is a crucial lifeline that will strengthen socio economic ties between Ekiti and Ondo States and enhance the general wellbeing of our people.

“It is also part of the broader development policy to open up our communities , reduce travel time and ensure the safety and convenience of commuters along this crucial corridor.

“A total of N155,453,,846.74 has been approved and earmarked for this compensation exercise. This covers the formal acquisition of land valuation and payments for unexhausted improvements on affected property. The transparent and fair disbursement of these funds is our priority, and I want to assure you that due process has been followed”.
Oyebanji saluted the property owners for exhibiting understanding and surrendered their property to expand the scope of progress and development of the state.

“Though, what we are giving might not be commensurate or equal to your property, but I want you to know that with this sacrifice, you have written your names with indelible ink in the history of development of our dear state. I urge you to use these funds wisely.

Ambassador Prince Michael Ogungbemi, Chairman of Ajoni Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Ekiti State, has been honoured with the prestigious African Community Heroes’ Award by the Global Skills Hub (UK) Africa Heroes’ Project, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to grassroots development.


According to a statement from the Office of the Chairman, Ogungbemi was notified of his selection as an award recipient via an official letter dated March 16, 2025, and signed by Dr. Honey Olawale, Country Director of the organisation. The award celebrates exceptional African leaders renowned for their integrity, professional excellence, community development initiatives, and dedication to national transformation.


Ahead of the award presentation, a leadership training for all honourees across Africa was conducted virtually on April 26, 2025. During the session, Ogungbemi expressed deep appreciation for the recognition, describing it as "a testament to the resilience and hard work of the people of Ajoni LCDA."

The UK-based Global Skills Hub lauded Ogungbemi's “integrity in public service, professional impact in local governance, community involvement, grassroots engagement, and verifiable contributions to the sustainable development of Ajoni LCDA, Ekiti State, and Nigeria as a whole.”


The statement stressed that the international accolade is not only a personal achievement for Ogungbemi but also a source of pride for the people of Ajoni LCDA and Ekiti State at large. "It serves as a testament to the transformative leadership, inclusive governance and unwavering commitment to public service that the current administration has consistently upheld," the organisers noted.

In his response, Ogungbemi dedicated the award to the people of Ajoni LCDA, reaffirming his commitment to furthering developmental projects and empowering residents at the grassroots. He also extended his gratitude to Governor Biodun Oyebanji and former Governor Dr. Kayode Fayemi, acknowledging their mentorship and support for his leadership journey.

Governor Abiodun Oyebanji, the Executive Governor of Ekiti State and his cabinet members has been commended for the political  peaceful atmosphere in the so far leading to his unprecedented public rating ahead of the Ekiti State Governorship election come next and and the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.

This statement was issued by the Oyebanji Street Vanguard (_OSV_) at the end of their Street sampling and engagements across three major towns., each from the three senatorial district of the State over the weekend.

The result of the sampling clearly confirms the general acceptability of the majority of Ekiti people for the sustainance of the continuity of the progressive welfarist of the foundation of the the present administration was built upon. The sampling also confirmed the positive effect of the State Government policies leading to gradually reduction in the cost of living  especially the steady reduction in the food inflation in th4 State as a result of the agriculture and food security revolutionary policies of the administration. 

However, in a release signed by the convener of the group (_OSV_), the group urge the administration of Governor Oyebanji to pay more attention to the welfare of the State Civil Service especially regarding the newly passed State Persian contributory Scheme.  The group said the only take away from the independent sampling and enlightenment is the need for the State Government to embark on more enlightenment of the bill to ally the fears of those civil servants who have put in over 20 years into the service.

In conclusion, the group commended the efforts of Governor Oyebanji so far, regarding his leadership style and his unprecedented achievements in all areas of good governance.

The Ekiti State chapter of the Nigerian Youth Congress (NYC) has lauded gender advocate and lawyer, Omowumi Ogunrotimi, for her remarkable achievement in winning the prestigious 2025 Global Citizen Prize. The organisation described Ogunrotimi as a beacon of hope and a role model for Nigerian youth, urging the government to formally recognize her contributions.

Ogunrotimi, founder of the Gender Mobile Initiative, was recently named one of the winners of the 2025 Global Citizen Prize alongside other global changemakers, including Valeriia Rachynska (Ukraine), Taily Terena (Brazil), and Lydia Amenyaglo (Ghana). The award celebrates individuals making significant efforts to combat extreme poverty, gender inequality, and systemic injustice.

In a statement released on Monday, the NYC noted Ogunrotimi’s groundbreaking work in gender advocacy and systems change, which has spanned over a decade. Her efforts have led to the adoption of sexual harassment policies in 26 Nigerian states and over 150 higher institutions. Additionally, she played a crucial role in championing the Sexual Harassment Prohibition Bill at the Federal House of Representatives.

The Chairman of the Nigerian Youth Congress in Ekiti State, Aare Adedara Topmost, commended Ogunrotimi for her tireless commitment to gender equality and social justice, saying her achievements have brought Ekiti to the global stage. Speaking in Ado-Ekiti, Topmost praised Ogunrotimi as an inspiration to young Nigerians, saying, “Omowumi Ogunrotimi is a shining light, not just for Ekiti but for Nigeria. Her tireless efforts in advancing gender equality, promoting justice, and empowering women and girls are worthy of global recognition. We are proud of her, and she stands as a role model for many young Nigerians who are passionate about creating change.”

He further emphasized that Ogunrotimi’s success proves that young people can drive significant impact in both national and international policy. “Her Global Citizen Prize win is well-deserved, and we celebrate her,” he added.

Ogunrotimi’s current roles include serving on the Ekiti State Gender-Based Violence Management Committee, chaired by the First Lady, Dr. Olayemi Oyebanji. She is also an Ashoka Fellow and has received numerous accolades, including the Commonwealth Award, World Justice Forum Honoree, and the Attorney General Award on Gender Equality.

Through her organization, the Gender Mobile Initiative, Ogunrotimi continues to lead efforts aimed at creating safer spaces, promoting equity, and dismantling harmful societal norms. Her global recognition places her among a growing league of young African leaders making waves through grassroots change and policy advocacy.
