Ekiti 2022 Guber Election

I can Vouch for Oyebanji's Pedigree and Competence- Sen Opeyemi Bamidele
The Senator Representing Ekiti Central Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele has said loyalty to All Progressives Congress (APC) and his confidence in the ability and capacity of Mr. Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji (BAO) to provide responsible governance were the reasons he didn't challenge Oyebanji's victory in the January 27 primary election.

Speaking in Ado Ekiti on Friday as a Guest of Honour at an event organised by BAO's Anchor Organization to drum support for the APC guber candidate.

In his address at the event,  MOB said even though he contested in the primary, he had to embrace reconciliation as a loyal party member and work in the interest of the party the moment the winner had emerged.

Going down memory lane, Senator Bamidele reminded the crowd of favours the party had done him in the past, especially his emergence as Senatorial candidate in 2019 and the consensus agreement that has favoured him again to fly the party’s flag for the Ekiti Central Senatorial seat in 2023.

"I'm excited today because our party is waxing stronger  everyday. I'm here not only as Senatorial candidate but as a loyal party man who also believe in the competence and capacity of Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji to provide good governance in Ekiti State.

"Of course after the primary in January, many people thought we would challenge it in court but I knew that was not the way to go. I told my supporters that it's a family affair that must be treated within the family. I thank my brother, Governor John Kayode Fayemi, I thank the first lady and other leaders for the roles they played in making sure the family ties remain intact,"

Speaking on the preparation of the party to win the June 18 election, Bamidele commended the various groups for their selfless sacrifice which made  the event possible.
He said, "Today is memorable in the history of our great party and the state because what is happening is a demonstration of the fact that politics has indeed gone back to the people. I'm particularly excited because people have realized the need for participatory politics. I want to implore our people to move out and  preach the gospel according to BAO for us to be victorious on June 18.

Ekiti State First Lady, Erelu Bisi  Fayemi who spoke on the need for continuity at the event saluted all the support groups as well as the  Women Campaign Council for their efforts towards BAO's victory in the coming governorship election.

She pointed out that continuity would lead to the retention of various laudable achievements of the outgoing administration.

"You will all agree with me that Ekiti is not developing at the pace other developed states are developing. The reason is simple; there is no consistency in administrations as we see in Lagos and many other other states,"

Speaking at the event, the Chairman of BAO Anchor Organization, Hon. Gbenga Agbeyo said the Anchor groups were committed to ensuring that  total victory was record for the APC governorship candidate come June 18.

Also speaking at the event, a former APC State Chairman, Chief Jide Awe also admitted that there hasn't been anytime members of the public showed commitment to who governs them in Ekiti as being witnessed now.

Awe called on APC leaders and members not to relent in their efforts at recording a landslide victory in the coming election.

The APC governorship candidate, Mr Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji in his response thanked members of the BAO Anchor Organization for their support and promised to fulfil all his promises to Ekiti people if emerged as governor come June 18.

"I stand before you today that I will not disappoint you. That I will fulfil all my promises," he stated.

The governorship candidate, who restated his committment to issue- based campaign, called on party members to refrain from any act of violence  during the electioneering period. He said the record of performance of the APC- led administration in the state and the massive support of the people were enough to earn the party victory at the June 18 election.

Ekiti 2022:

..As Erelu Fayemi Assures Groups Of Continued Relationship

The  emergence of All Progressives Congress APC governorship candidate, Mr Biodun Oyebanji has received another boost with his endorsement by one hundred and eighty five different support groups.

The Anchor support  groups made the endorsement known in Ado Ekiti during a parley with the Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji BAO campaign organization .

In his opening remarks , the Chairman Anchor Organizations For BAO, Elder  Gbenga Agbeyo said that  members of all the groups cut across Civil Service , Informal Sector , Christian Groups, Muslim Groups, Labour Leaders,  Local Government Workers, Professionals , People Living With Disabilities and many others .

While showering encomium on the APC candidate,Elder Agbeyo maintained that the party has presented  a rightful person who would promote the economic prosperity of the state, urging the support groups never to relent in canvassing for people's votes saying that APC remained the only party that could sustain economic development of the state.

She appealed to the groups to be more interested in the benefits of continuity to the state and canvass for massive votes of the people for the party.

The governor's wife emphasized that various multi million naira projects and interventions programmes from investors and Development Partners  coming to the state should not be allowed to sleep away.

Stigmatization of Ex Convicts: A Humanitarian comes to the Rescue.

The story of corp member with a mission beyond serving.
When Anuoluwapo Balogun found herself as a corp member serving in Ekiti after getting redeployed from a Northern state, little did she know what fate had in store for her in the Land of Honour.

Anu came as a stranded Corper in Ado Ekiti when she could not get a "PPA" thanks to a redeployment go wrong and was hitherto thrown as a last resort to the Nigeria Union of Journalist Secretariat  in Ado Ekiti. One must give credit to Kayode  Babatuyi the Secretary of the NUJ for not rejecting this golden fish even though the Union was at that time incapacitated to take another corp member having have several others.
Just like Chinua Achebe said of Okonkwo in his book ' Things fall Apart'  'When a man says yes his chi also says yes', this is  the case of Anu who immediately familiarize herself with her environment and became friends with almost everyone at the NUJ secretariat. She is by far the most popular Corp member in that building  and this earned her the title " Chief corp member"
When She first  intimated me about the project, I was scared for her not because she will fail but I doubt if  she can pull through given her fragile body and small stature and indeed looks can be deceiving. I gave her all the encouragement whilst I pray inwardly for her to succeed because apart from being an emotional person she is treading one of the most dangerous and delicate path of human life dealing with Inmates of the correctional centre".
Anu nevertheless, started her journey visiting people, offices and personalities that could be of help in actualising her project. Going to the offices is another thing getting the right people and securing the cooperation of the personalities is another. There are many times Anu will come back to the office frustrated and in tears and trust me it was that time the devil in me will spring up to give her the disturbances of her life but I know if she looked back now she will definitely smile because she needed the assurance that all will be well.
Despite the obvious frustrations, this young lady never gave up and I was more than eager to accompany her to the correctional centre for her first session with the Inmates who were about completing their terms.
The story behind the walls of that community is "ethically" kept as a top secret else I get sued. But the intrigues will always be there, Anu has started a legacy in Ekiti and her project won't be for Ekiti alone in fact I call on the State and federal government to make Anuoluwapo Balogun's project a model and a prototype for the reintegration of ex inmates into the society in order to stop stigmatization and prevent  rescividism.
If the Federal government can rehabilitate ex Boko Haram members with full benefits then nothing should stop Ex convicts getting a shot in becoming better asset to themselves and the society.

Anu came with the idea of training Ex convicts, setting them up with basic skills and properly reintroducing them into the society whilst protecting their rights and enhancing their self esteem.
The session was a huge success and many Inmates who are not leaving anytime soon happily joined the training.

The highlights was that of a young man who wanted to be a writer got blessed with materials and a big Dictionary.
The sensitization programme itself was a huge success in every way. The NUP hall was filled to the brims on 18th May  2022 with the attendance of Dignitaries that graced the event. The programme in conjunction with the National Orientation agency(NOA) has the Director of NOA, the Comptroller General of the Prison Services, The NUJ chairman, The Vice President NUJ southwest B Zone and the NYSC state coordinator all in attendance.
Ex Inmates were empowered with tools worth hundred  thousands of naira while the facilitators sensitize the audience on the need to stay away from crime.
Anuoluwapo Balogun has laid a foundation that needed all the help it can get in executing more humanitarian projects not only in Nigeria but also beyond the shores of the country.

This young corper has brought unquantifiable ideas that will make our society a better place and it will be well deserving if Anu is given a state recognition and award especially by her Excellency Erelu Bisi Fayemi who is also a humanitarian crusader too.
People like her should be  encouraged in every possible ways even as I look forward to having her NGO take take off as soon as possible.

Ekiti Guber Election

Technology and INEC's  Quest for a Model Election
The  Election of Ekiti is here again and as usual the momentum is building as political parties are doing everything possible to emerge winners of the June 18th 2022 exercise.

Much has been said about the Political parties participating in the elections and according to the information at hand about 15 political parties will be slugging it out although 3 political parties namely; APC, PDP and the SDP are clearly ahead in the race.
At the end, the winners will jubilate and the runners up will be forced to lick their wounds for another 4 years that is, if ltigations will be avoided then Inec can heave a sigh of relieve for the first time.
Apart  from the 1999 elections which ushered in the Alliance for Democracy Candidate Otunba Niyi Adebayo as governor of Ekiti state, almost all the subsequent elections has got Inec busy during the post election saga and Inec in Ekiti has received more  blames than praises in the course of conducting Ekiti elections.

This time, it appears Inec is leaving no stone unturned in ensuring a free and fair election with its recent constant programmes of sensitization, awareness, campaigns and most especially the  use of technology that will replace the analogue form in the electoral process in Ekiti. If i am not mistaken, this will be the first time Inec will be electronically conducting an election with the ABIS and APIS  to forestall any electoral malpractices.

If will electronically transmit results directly from the polling units and people can log into the portal to get the results straight from the source. This will no doubt put a check on the spread of unverified results being circulated on social media which nearly misled the public in the last gubernatorial election when a sitting governor went on radio to announce a doctored result. This time around, information will be made available to all and sundry to avoid accusing Inec of  any complacency.
On the 18th of May 2022 Inec  invited stakeholders, Political parties and the general public to give an update on how far they have gone with the preparation of the election. The Inec Honorable commissioner  in Ekiti state Dr. Tella Adeniran gave a well detailed analysis on the preparedness of commission to ensure voters and their votes are well accounted for. Mrs Oladunjoye Abimbola from the Inec ICT Department in Abuja did Justice to the updated and upgraded system of voting with the card reader now discarded and voters will now  be cleared for voting  facially including the use   fingerprints which will be used to solve  the misunderstanding surrounding the failure of card readers in the last guber election.

Moreover, the commission recorded a huge success in the areas of having  complete data of voters in the state while doing away with multiple and non eligible voters. The commission has also laid to rest some malicious report from some quarters that Inec is distributing unclaimed PVC's to a political party.

At this juncture, it is important to let us know that  The Independent Electoral commission is just an umpire whose duty is to coordinate the process. It is not part of the players and just like a football match while the referee is to regulate the affairs and how the players plays will determine the outcome of the match. Inec as a regulatory body can only appeal to the political parties and their members to play by the rules and in most cases political parties play it very dirty and still blame Inec for the outcome.

The general public should know Inec's  sole responsibility is to make materials available  at the designated polling units, make sure that only eligible voters vote, transmit the results and declare the winner. No Inec official is permitted to carry  arms and participate in the elections reason  Corp members are drafted for the exercise because their  chance of being partisan is zero percent. Attacking Inec before, during and after the elections is like beating a  child for crying, he or she will only  cry more.

All the programmes being held by Inec and other concerned bodies are mostly being attended by the few  elites and few party officials and I doubt if they relay the message to their teeming members the need to follow the  rules and guidelines. The campaigns of Inec the umpire is being neglected while political parties jamboree is commanding large turnout of people.
I sometimes wonder if people realize the importance of listening to the body before the election because I won't be surprised if some parties have their agents rejected on the election day  for failing to register their agents on the portal for easy recognition and to hinder impostors who may want to disrupt the process.

And if Inec refuses the unregistered agents won't  there be uproar that Inec is partial?
A visit to the Inec office today shows people are more interested in this year's election than the previous years with over 900 thousand eligible voters and women taking 52% percent as at 18th of May 2022.

The Independent National Electoral Commission has therefore, set the stage  clearly for a hitch free exercise on Saturday 18th June 2022, it is therefore left for the gladiators to play by the rules  and I sincerely hope Dr. Tella Adeniran will have a cause to smile at the end of the day.
