President Tinubu To Saudi Investors: Your Investments Are Safe In Nigeria.

President Tinubu To Saudi Investors: Your Investments Are Safe In Nigeria.

President Bola Tinubu has assured potential investors that their investments are safe in Nigeria.

Speaking at the Saudi-Africa Summit in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Friday, President Tinubu said Nigeria is ready for business while assuring investors of some of the world's highest returns on investment.

The President said Nigeria is desirous of enhancing collaboration with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on combating terrorist organizations such as Boko Haram, ISWAP, and other violent extremist groups which have been terrorizing the Lake Chad and Sahel regions.

"Nigeria and Saudi Arabia have always enjoyed a special relationship at both the bilateral and multilateral levels. Within the past six decades, our bilateral cooperation, which was initially hajj-centric, has witnessed diversification to cover a number of areas of common interest. It is delightful to note the presence in this great Kingdom of a large number of our compatriots and professionals, including highly-skilled medical practitioners and professional football players.

"As members of several international organizations including the UN, the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries, the International Energy Forum, the G77, the Islamic Development Bank, the Digital Cooperation Organization among others, our two nations have effectively used these and other platforms to enhance close interaction and coordination. I am confident that our joint positive disposition within these platforms will continue to be demonstrated as we seek to advance our mutual interests.

"Nigeria, like the Kingdom, is diversifying her economy away from oil dependence to promote sustainable development. My administration has undertaken bold economic reforms by removing wasteful subsidies on petroleum and the merging of our foreign exchange market, among other incentives aimed at improving the ease of doing business in Nigeria.

"I also wish to assure all potential Saudi investors of the safety of their investments based on the sanctity of the rule of law and good returns on their investments in the largest economy in Africa. In this regard, the benefit attached to the early inauguration of the Nigeria-Saudi Business Council can not be over-emphasized," the President said.

President Tinubu thanked the Kingdom for the various humanitarian interventions in Nigeria through the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre.

Speaking on climate change and how it affects Africa, President Tinubu said climate change has led to an expedited rate of desertification and incessant flooding in Nigeria and many other countries of Africa.

He commended the efforts of the Kingdom for its various initiatives to fight the effects of climate change, adding that Nigeria is also working on a number of initiatives to fight the effects of climate change and energy poverty.

"Recently, we launched a data-driven Energy Transition Plan which sets forth a clear carbon reduction policy and targets net-zero emissions by the year 2060 while also setting out our plans for industrialization using new energy systems and universal access to modern energy services.

"Mr. Chairman, let me also take this opportunity to reiterate Nigeria’s full support for the Kingdom’s bids to host the 2030 World Expo in Riyadh and the 2034 FIFA Senior Men’sWorld Cup, the latter of which is now all but guaranteed to succeed," the President said.

On the situation in the Middle East, particularly in Palestine, the President reiterated Nigeria's call for an immediate ceasefire and the pursuit of a peaceful resolution to the conflict.

The President extends appreciation to community leaders, recognizing their efforts and collaborations in addressing the power supply challenges. He expresses the hope that their dedication will be rewarded abundantly by God.

Efforts are actively underway to resolve power challenges in Oke Ikere, with the belief that it will soon become a thing of the past.

While acknowledging progress, Afuye calls for collaboration to address remaining challenges. He underscores the need for residents to make electricity payments directly to designated BEDC offices, avoiding payments to disconnected staff. Afuye stresses that such payments do not reflect on bills, impacting the community's access to electricity.

Residents are urged to collect receipts for all payments made to BEDC as evidence. Afuye encourages reporting any BEDC staff engaging in unauthorized collections to dedicated lines: 08033546732 & 08030608243.

Acknowledging ongoing difficulties, Afuye calls for unity in resolving challenges, emphasizing the monitoring of BEDC activities in the community.

Highlighting the importance of community support, Afuye appeals for collaboration with the youth council and expresses gratitude to fathers, mothers, brothers, and sisters for their prayers and support.

In conclusion, Asoju Oba Akin Afuye extends blessings to Ikere-Ekiti, seeking continued divine guidance and support for the community.

First Lady Charges Armed Forces To Encourage More Women Enlistment.

First Lady Charges Armed Forces To Encourage More Women Enlistment.

First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has charged the leadership of the Armed Forces of Nigeria to encourage women to join the military.

The First Lady gave the charge in her address read by the wife of the vice president, Hajia Nana Shettima, at the Defence Headquarters’ one-day Gender Mainstreaming Conference with the theme, Building Capacity Through Gender Mainstreaming to Meet Security Challenges.

According to a statement issued by the spokesperson to the First Lady, Busola Kukoyi, the First Lady, while commending the leadership of the Armed Forces of Nigeria for organising the programme, acknowledged that the event was timely.

She said: “The theme is apt because it is about shaping a safer, better, and more equitable world for all.

“I commend the leadership of the Armed Forces of Nigeria for accepting the gender mainstreaming concept in line with the Global Best Practice and the UN Security Council Resolution 1325.”

The First Lady added that security challenges in the nation have become increasingly complex.

“Addressing these challenges effectively requests innovative and comprehensive approaches and gender mainstreaming stands as a powerful tool in our arsenal.

“Gender mainstreaming is now much more than a charity and a policy agenda, this is a fundamental issue about the way we perceive and address security challenges.”

She further said it is recognised that security encompasses not only military strength but also the protection of human rights, economic stability, social and environmental sustainability.

The First Lady said it requires a collective effort to address security issues and advance gender mainstreaming.

She added: “We can start by ensuring that gender perspectives are integrated into security policies and strategies, encouraging more women to join and progress within the forces.

“We must promote women’s participation and leadership in security institutions, peace negotiations, conflict resolution efforts and bringing a more reconciliatory perspective into negotiations.”

The First Lady, however, added that education and training programmes should include gender sensitivity and awareness amongst security personnel.

She further said that women should not be discriminated against for getting married or bearing children while in the military.

She advised that more cooperation is required towards the elimination of gender-based violence within security forces.

“Through the Renewed Hope Initiative project, we have strengthened women’s empowerment by letting women have access to training and education. Additionally, we have equipped the women with laptops and grants to support their educational and professional pursuits.

“This is because we believe that when you empower a woman, you empower a community and inevitably a nation. We therefore hope that the leadership within the Armed Forces will extend this dialogue beyond the confinement of this conference and empower women and ranks and their ranks”, she said.

The Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Christopher Musa and the Minister of Defence Alhaji Mohammed Baduru applauded the First Lady and agreed to look into her recommendations.

“We have a lot of competent hands that can serve in the education sector across the nation and our teachers are qualified to undertake tasks at the federal level”.

While stressing that the two years internship scheme was too short, the SUBEB Boss appealed to UBEC to extend the duration of the scheme or upgrade it to a permanent employment.

Reiterating the commitment of the Oyebanji led administration to improving the quality of teaching-learning outcomes in the State, continuous training for teachers and education administrators has been made a priority.
