YAN EKITI, INEC TAKE VOTER EDUCATION CAMPAIGN TO THE GRASSROOTS IN EKITI SOUTH-WEST.

The Youth Assembly of Nigeria (YAN), Ekiti State Assembly, in collaboration with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has continued its intensive voter education and sensitization campaign across Ekiti South-West Local Government ahead of the 2026 Ekiti Governorship Election.

Since the commencement of the exercise on Monday, 11th May 2026, members of the Assembly have been actively engaging residents through street-to-street sensitization, community outreach, and strategic meetings with stakeholders across different towns and communities within the local government.

The campaign is focused on educating citizens on the importance of voter participation, peaceful elections, collection and protection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), and the need for every eligible voter to actively participate in the democratic process.

As part of the ongoing activities, the sensitization team paid courtesy visits to key stakeholders and local government officials, including the Chairman of Ekiti South-West Local Government and the Chairman of Igbara-Odo/Ogotun LCDA, where discussions centered on strengthening grassroots participation and promoting peaceful, free, and fair elections.

The campaign also witnessed massive street engagements in communities such as Ilawe-Ekiti and Igbara-Odo, where residents, market women, youths, transport workers, and Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) were sensitized on their electoral rights and responsibilities.

Speaking during the outreach, representatives of the Youth Assembly of Nigeria reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to deepening democracy, promoting civic responsibility, and ensuring that no group is left behind in the electoral process.

Special advocacy materials carrying messages such as “Your Vote, Your Voice, Your Future,” “Women, Make Una Stand Up and Vote,” and “PWD Got Equal Voting Rights” were also displayed and distributed to encourage inclusive participation among women, youths, and Persons With Disabilities.

The Assembly emphasized that voter education remains a vital tool in building a peaceful, informed, and participatory democracy, while calling on all residents of Ekiti South-West to come out massively and peacefully during the forthcoming governorship election.

The 2-week voter education and sensitization campaign is expected to continue across more communities within the local government area in the coming days.
