The Vice-Chancellor of Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado-Ekiti, Prof. Joseph Babatola Ayodele, has commended Nigerian workers, particularly members of the university community, for their dedication and contributions to the institution’s growth.

Ayodele gave the commendation in a statement he personally signed on Thursday to mark the 2026 International Workers’ Day celebration.

He noted that the commitment of both teaching and non-teaching staff had played a crucial role in supporting his administration’s efforts at building a competitive, service-driven, and sustainable university.

The vice-chancellor also praised the Ekiti State Governor and Visitor to the university, Mr Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, for his unwavering support, describing his interventions as instrumental to the institution’s development.

According to him, the governor’s efforts have significantly improved the welfare of both staff and students, noting that such support has been a major boost to the university’s progress.

Ayodele further expressed appreciation to workers’ unions within the institution, including ASUU, SSANU, NAAT and NASU, for their cooperation and resilience.

He said the unions’ leadership and understanding since he assumed office one year and seven months ago had helped in maintaining industrial harmony and ensuring the stability of the academic calendar.

The vice-chancellor urged members of staff to remain committed to their duties in order to realise the vision of the university’s founding fathers.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to staff welfare, stressing that every worker deserves fair reward for their labour.

Ayodele also advised workers to prioritise their health through regular medical check-ups, adequate rest, proper nutrition and exercise.

The statement was issued by the Deputy Registrar and Head of Information and Corporate Affairs, Mr Omotayo Peters, on Friday.
