SENATOR YEMI ADARAMODU’S BILL FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE AI ACADEMY IN OMUO-EKITI SCALES FIRST READING.

The Nigerian Senate has passed the first reading of a bill seeking to establish an Artificial Intelligence (AI) Academy in Omuo-Ekiti, Ekiti State. The bill, sponsored by Senator Yemi Adaramodu of Ekiti South Senatorial District, was introduced on the Senate floor on Tuesday, May 27, 2025. The proposed academy is envisioned as a centre for training, research, and innovation in Artificial Intelligence and emerging digital technologies.

Senator Adaramodu stated that the initiative aligns with Nigeria’s drive for economic diversification and digital transformation. He emphasised that technological advancement is a key driver of national development and that Nigeria must not be left behind in the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The Academy aims to equip young Nigerians with globally competitive skills in AI, machine learning, robotics, and data science.

Once established, the Academy in Omuo-Ekiti is expected to attract international collaborations, promote indigenous innovation, and strengthen the link between academic research and industry. This strategic move positions Ekiti State as a future hub for digital excellence and contributes to Nigeria’s ambition of becoming a technology-driven economy.
