The Ekiti State Commissioner for Food Security and Agriculture, Mr. Boluwade Ebenezer, on Monday, joined Governor Biodun Oyebanji on an official visit to the Ikun Dairy Farm located in Ikun Amure, Moba Local Government Area of Ekiti State.
The multi-million naira facility, which is one of the largest single dairy farms in Nigeria, operates under a Public-Private Partnership between the Ekiti State Government and Promasidor Nigeria Limited.
Speaking to journalists on the visit, Boluwade noted the significant progress recorded at the farm since the importation of Jersey cows in 2021, adding that the farm has successfully advanced in cattle multiplication and genetic improvement through integration with local breeds.
“With over 650 cattle currently on site, the farm has achieved an average milk production of 25 litres per cow per day,” he said.
The visit also featured the official launch of “Ikun Milk Day,” a new initiative aimed at supplying milk weekly to schoolchildren in Ikun Ekiti. According to the Commissioner, arrangements are being made to expand the programme across schools in the state once the Federal Government’s national school feeding programme resumes.
Governor Oyebanji, who expressed satisfaction with the performance of the farm, reiterated his administration’s commitment to the shared prosperity agenda. He also promised additional government support for the farm while encouraging more private sector investment in Ekiti by assuring a conducive business environment.
The Ikun Dairy Farm is part of the state government’s strategy to boost food security, create jobs, and reduce dependence on imported dairy products.
