The National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado-Ekiti, the approval to commence its Pharmacy programme starting from the 2024/2025 academic session.
The approval, which marks a significant milestone in the institution's academic development, was conveyed in a letter dated December 19, 2024. The letter, signed by Abubakar Girei, Acting Director of Academic Planning, on behalf of the Acting Executive Secretary of the Commission, confirmed the establishment of a full-time mode of the Doctor of Pharmacy programme.
With this nod, EKSU will now initiate the process of admitting pioneer students into the newly established Faculty of Pharmacy, fulfilling a long-anticipated ambition to expand its academic offerings.
Reacting to the development, the Deputy Registrar and Head of the Directorate of Information and Corporate Affairs, Bode Olofinmuagun, described the approval as a testament to the university's commitment to excellence and innovation in academics.
He said, “This is a major breakthrough for our institution as we strive to be a hub for quality education and professional training in Nigeria. The Faculty of Pharmacy will enhance our capacity to contribute to the healthcare sector and empower students with essential skills in pharmaceutical sciences.”
Stakeholders in the education sector and the university community have lauded the NUC for its approval, expressing optimism about the positive impact the programme will have on the state and beyond.
As preparations kick off to admit the first batch of students, EKSU continues to cement its place as a leading institution driving academic and professional advancements in Nigeria.
