The Chairman of Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government (IILG), Honorable Oluwatuyi, has launched a major drainage project aimed at ending the persistent flooding that has plagued the Igede-Iyin Federal Road in Igede-Ekiti. The 150-meter concrete drainage, which is now under construction, is expected to address the long-standing problem that has affected commuters and local farmers for years.
Speaking during an inspection of the project, Hon. Oluwatuyi emphasized the importance of the initiative, describing it as a crucial step toward improving infrastructure in the community. "This project is not just about governance, it’s a purposeful intervention to solve the challenges our people have faced for far too long. It’s about restoring access, enhancing livelihoods, and ensuring smoother connections across the local government," he said.
The Igede-Iyin Road has been prone to severe flooding due to years of neglect, often making it impassable and causing significant losses for farmers who have struggled to transport their produce to the market. The situation has disrupted not only the local economy but also the daily lives of residents who have been cut off from essential services.
Engineer Adebayo Ojo, the Director of Works at IILG, commended the chairman for his proactive approach to solving the flooding issue. “This drainage project is a testament to the chairman’s commitment to sustainable infrastructure. It will not only mitigate flooding but will also ensure that the road remains durable and accessible for many years to come,” he stated.
The project has been warmly received by residents, who expressed relief and appreciation for the chairman’s intervention. High Chief Ayodele Otegbola (High Chief Regba), a respected community leader, praised Hon. Oluwatuyi’s leadership, calling him “trustworthy, hardworking, and visionary.” He added, “The chairman has proven time and again that he is dedicated to turning his vision into tangible outcomes that benefit everyone in the community.”
Joining the chairman on the inspection were Prince Adegoke, the Head of Local Administration (HLA); Hon. Adekunle, the Ward B Councillor; Mr. Asubiojo, the Director of Information and Civic Orientation; and other political leaders.
Residents expressed optimism that the drainage project would provide a lasting solution to the flooding issue, restore access to the federal road, and enhance their overall quality of life. The reconstruction has been hailed as a significant milestone in Hon. Oluwatuyi’s ongoing efforts to provide people-centered governance and impactful development.
