The Ekiti State Chapter of the Stand Up for Women Society (SWS) has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to promoting the welfare, empowerment, and protection of women and girls through sustained advocacy, public enlightenment campaigns, and strategic partnerships across the state.

These remarkable achievements have been recorded under the visionary leadership of the International President of the Society, Barr. (Mrs.) Abosede Deborah Ijadele-Adetona, whose administration has ushered in an unprecedented era of impactful programmes and initiatives aimed at advancing the rights and well-being of women and girls.

The State Chairperson of the association, Lib. Adewumi Bade-Gboyega, and the State Secretary, Lib. Helen Akomolafe, made this known in a statement issued by the organisation's Public Relations Officer, Lib. (Chief) Bimbo Yusuf.

According to the statement, the chapter has carried out several impactful activities aimed at advancing the rights and well-being of women in Ekiti State.

The organisation disclosed that it held its monthly online meeting on November 17, 2025, to review its programmes and strengthen members' participation in its activities.

As part of activities marking the 2025 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, the chapter, in collaboration with the Office of the Wife of the Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Olayemi Oyebanji, organised an advocacy walk on December 9, 2025, to campaign against gender-based violence, female genital mutilation and the abuse of the girl-child.

The statement added that the society also combined its December monthly meeting with its end-of-year thanksgiving service held on December 17, 2025, at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Housing Estate, Oke-Ila, Ado Ekiti.

The chapter also honoured two deceased elderly members by attending their burial ceremonies on December 11 and 12, 2025, respectively.

It further stated that the organisation participated in the inaugural meeting of the Partnership Against Violent Extremism (PAVE) held at the Nigeria Union of Journalists Secretariat, Okebareke, Old Governor's Office, Ado Ekiti.

In continuation of its advocacy against harmful traditional practices, members of the chapter commemorated the International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation at Harding Model College, where they sensitised students and stakeholders on the dangers of the practice.

The organisation also welcomed three new members into its fold. They are Mrs. Akinwale Adenike, Mrs. Ogundana Funmi and Mrs. Ayetan, while members were commended for the prompt payment of their monthly dues.

According to the statement, members of the Ekiti State chapter joined other South-West chapters to witness the investiture of the Oore of Otun Ekiti and Paramount Ruler of Mobaland, Oba Adebayo Adeagbo, as the South-West Patron of the Stand Up for Women Society on February 7, 2026.

The chapter also paid an advocacy visit to the President of the Court of Appeal in Ekiti State, Hon. Justice Oluwatoyin Bodunde, on February 26, 2026, as part of efforts to strengthen collaboration with critical stakeholders in the promotion of justice and women's rights.

Similarly, members joined their counterparts across Nigeria at the investiture of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, as the Grand Patron of the Stand Up for Women Society International on March 1, 2026.

The statement further revealed that the State Chairperson, Lib. Adewumi Bade-Gboyega, and the State Secretary, Lib. Helen Akomolafe, paid an advocacy visit to Olori Olubunmi Priscilla Ogunwusi in Ado Ekiti on March 3, 2026, as part of the organisation's ongoing engagement with traditional institutions and key stakeholders.

The Ekiti State chapter reiterated its resolve to continue championing programmes that promote gender equality, protect the rights of women and girls, and contribute meaningfully to the socio-economic development of the state.

A socio-political group, Lovers and Fans of Hon. Bayo Ajayi, has showered praises on Hon. Bayo Ajayi for his exemplary leadership, unwavering commitment, and remarkable contributions to the growth and development of Emure Kingdom.

The commendation was contained in a statement issued during the grand celebration marking the first coronation anniversary of the Elemure of Emure Ekiti, His Royal Majesty, Oba James A. B. Ajiboye.

The group described Hon. Ajayi as an exceptional leader, a proud ambassador of Emure Kingdom, and a firm believer in community development whose selfless service, humility, and dedication to the welfare of the people have continued to inspire hope and attract admiration across the kingdom.

According to the group, Hon. Ajayi has consistently demonstrated genuine love for Emure Kingdom by supporting initiatives that promote peace, unity, and sustainable development, adding that his passion for the progress of the community remains worthy of emulation.

While congratulating the royal father on the successful celebration of his one-year anniversary on the throne, the group prayed for a peaceful, prosperous, and impactful reign.

"We heartily congratulate His Royal Majesty, Oba James A. B. Ajiboye, on this memorable milestone and pray that God grants Kabiyesi long life, divine wisdom, sound health, and abundant grace to continue leading Emure Kingdom to greater heights," the statement read.

The group also wished all sons and daughters of Emure Kingdom enduring peace, unity, and greater accomplishments, while reaffirming its support for every initiative aimed at advancing the socio-economic development of the ancient kingdom.

It further expressed confidence that with the visionary leadership of the traditional institution and the continued commitment of distinguished sons like Hon. Bayo Ajayi, Emure Kingdom would witness greater progress and sustainable development in the years ahead.

CONDEMNATION OF LEADERSHIP FAILURE, INFRASTRUCTURAL NEGLECT, AND INSECURITY IN UZO-UWANI LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA, ENUGU STATE.

The Office of the National Director of Action and Mobilization of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), National Headquarters, Abuja, strongly condemns the persistent leadership failure, infrastructural decay, and prolonged neglect of Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area in Enugu State.

It is unacceptable that in the 21st century—an era driven by technology, digital innovation, and global connectivity—approximately 14 out of the 17 communities in Uzo-Uwani reportedly remain without reliable telecommunications network coverage. This glaring deficiency has severely affected students, making online learning, academic research, communication, digital financial services, and other essential educational activities extremely difficult.

Education cannot thrive where students are cut off from the digital world. This situation represents a clear failure of governance and an injustice to the people of Uzo-Uwani.

Furthermore, the state of road infrastructure across the Local Government Area is deeply alarming. Virtually no community in Uzo-Uwani is connected to another through a good, motorable road. During the rainy season, many of these roads become completely impassable, isolating communities and hindering access to schools, healthcare facilities, markets, and other essential services.

This raises serious questions regarding the utilization of public funds allocated for infrastructure development within the Local Government Area. If Uzo-Uwani receives statutory allocations like every other local government, the people deserve transparency and accountability regarding why there has been little or no visible infrastructural development.

It is particularly unfortunate that despite producing a Senator who represented the district for eight years, Uzo-Uwani continues to suffer from poor road networks and inadequate public infrastructure. This is unacceptable for a Local Government Area widely recognized as the food basket of Enugu State, whose agricultural importance contributes significantly to the state's economy.

Beyond infrastructural neglect, Uzo-Uwani has continued to face serious security challenges resulting from repeated attacks allegedly carried out by armed herdsmen. These attacks have instilled fear among residents, displaced farming activities, and prevented many farmers from accessing their farmlands.

For a predominantly agrarian community whose major source of livelihood is farming, the continued insecurity is devastating. Families are losing their means of survival, food production is declining, and residents now live under constant fear. The government must take decisive and lawful action to restore peace, protect lives and property, and ensure that criminals responsible for these attacks are brought to justice. The safety of the people must remain a priority.

On behalf of the students and youths of Uzo-Uwani, we call on:

- The Executive Governor of Enugu State;

- His Excellency Dr.Barr peter ndubuisi mba.

- The Chairman of Uzo-Uwani Local

to urgently address these longstanding challenges.

Specifically, we demand:

- Immediate expansion of telecommunications network coverage to all underserved communities in Uzo-Uwani.

- Urgent rehabilitation and construction of roads connecting communities within the Local Government Area.

- Improved security measures to safeguard lives, protect farmlands, and restore confidence among residents.

- Greater transparency and accountability in the management and utilization of public funds meant for infrastructural development.

The people of Uzo-Uwani deserve the same dividends of democracy enjoyed by citizens in other parts of Enugu State and Nigeria. Continued neglect is unacceptable and cannot be allowed to persist.

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) remains committed to defending the welfare, security, educational advancement, and fundamental rights of Nigerian students and communities. We will continue to speak against injustice, poor governance, and every form of neglect that threatens the future of our people.

In a significant step toward strengthening collaboration between Nigeria’s tertiary education community and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), the National Vice President (External Affairs) of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Comr. Sadiq SK Zango, today led a high-powered delegation of the National Secretariat to a strategic engagement with the Director-General of the NYSC at the Scheme’s National Directorate Headquarters in Abuja.

The engagement, held at the invitation of the Director-General, provided a platform for constructive dialogue on graduate transition, national service, youth empowerment, entrepreneurship, digital transformation, and institutional collaboration.

Addressing the NYSC leadership, Comr. Sadiq SK Zango stated that the National Secretariat of NANS has continued to receive a substantial volume of inquiries from graduating students and prospective Corps Members on mobilisation procedures, Senate List challenges, documentation requirements, welfare issues, entrepreneurship opportunities, and post-service career pathways.

He emphasized that these recurring concerns underscore the need for stronger institutional cooperation to ensure that Nigerian graduates receive timely, accurate, and verified information before commencing national service.

During the engagement, Comr. Zango presented a comprehensive set of policy proposals aimed at deepening collaboration between NANS and the NYSC. The proposals focused on establishing a structured partnership framework, introducing nationwide pre-mobilisation sensitisation programmes for final-year students, expanding campus-based information campaigns, strengthening entrepreneurship awareness, promoting graduate employability initiatives, and encouraging continuous stakeholder engagement on matters affecting Corps Members.

He noted that with its extensive network across universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, and other tertiary institutions, NANS is uniquely positioned to serve as a credible bridge between government institutions and millions of Nigerian students by supporting public enlightenment, civic education, and the dissemination of verified information.

Comr. Zango further reaffirmed the commitment of the National Executive Council of NANS to constructive engagement with public institutions, stressing that sustainable youth development requires enduring partnerships built on dialogue, shared responsibility, and practical solutions.

He observed that strengthening cooperation between the NYSC and NANS would not only improve graduate preparedness for national service but also expand awareness of entrepreneurship, innovation, leadership development, and other opportunities available to young Nigerians.

The National Association of Nigerian Students commended the Director-General and the Management of the NYSC for their openness, professionalism, and willingness to engage student leadership on issues of national importance. The Association expressed optimism that the engagement would serve as a foundation for sustained collaboration in advancing graduate development, national unity, and youth empowerment.

As part of its broader institutional engagement agenda, NANS reaffirmed its resolve to continue working with government ministries, departments, and agencies to promote evidence-based policy dialogue, strengthen public participation, and advocate initiatives that expand opportunities for Nigerian students and graduates.

APC Campaign Council Holds Post-Election Appraisal, Commends Ekiti Electorate for Historic Victory.

Following the overwhelming victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the June 20, 2026 governorship election in Ekiti State, the party's Campaign Council has commenced a comprehensive post-election appraisal of its activities and performance across the state.

The inaugural appraisal meeting was held on Sunday, July 12, 2026, at the Campaign Council's Situation Office. The meeting was presided over by the Director General of the Campaign Council, Distinguished Senator Cyril Fasuyi.

Present at the meeting were the Ekiti State Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Akintunde Oyebode; the three Senatorial Directors of Mobilisation, Hon. Babade Kayode (Ekiti South), Chief Remi Oguntuase (Ekiti Central), and Mrs. Kemi Olaleye (Ekiti North). Also in attendance were the State Director of Mobilisation, Mr. Sunkanmi Onipede; the Secretary of the Directorate, Asipa Ayodeji Adarabierin; and Otunba Lekan Oyebanji, among other stakeholders.

The meeting, convened by the leadership of the APC Campaign Council under the chairmanship of the Senate Leader, Distinguished Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele (MOB), was aimed at reviewing the activities of the Campaign Council and assessing its performance in relation to the outcome of the June 20 governorship election, which returned Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji with a resounding mandate.

As part of the appraisal process, the Director General received feedback from members of the various directorates, while an interactive session was scheduled with the 38 Local Government and Local Council Development Area Directors of Mobilisation to evaluate the campaign from the polling unit level up to the State Collation Centre.

The interactive exercise, which commenced yesterday and concluded today, provided an opportunity for participants to identify strengths, examine challenges encountered during the campaign, and document lessons that would further strengthen the party's electoral machinery.

The Campaign Council described the exercise as unprecedented in Ekiti's political history, noting that it reflects the party's commitment to continuous improvement, accountability, and institutional learning despite recording a landslide victory at the polls.

Speaking during the meeting, Senator Cyril Fasuyi expressed profound appreciation to all stakeholders, party faithful, campaign officials, and the people of Ekiti State, for their steadfast support, commitment, and confidence in the APC.

He also conveyed the appreciation of Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji to the electorate for the overwhelming mandate given to the party. The Governor, through the Campaign Council, equally thanked the national leadership of the APC and expressed special gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his steadfast support throughout the campaign.

The Council thereafter passed a vote of confidence on the entire campaign structure, including the Campaign Council, all Directorates, the Women Campaign Council headed by the Ekiti State First Lady, Dr. Olajumoke Olayemi Oyebanji, and every individual who contributed to the success of the election.

In his vote of thanks, the commissioner for information, Rt. Hon. Taiwo Olatunbosun, paid glowing tribute to Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, describing him as a leader whose humility, inclusiveness, and commitment to the development of Ekiti inspired the confidence of the people.

He equally appreciated members of the Campaign Council and various committees for their dedication and sacrifices throughout the electioneering period, while also extending gratitude to Governor Oyebanji and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for their invaluable support to the APC in Ekiti State.

The Ekiti State Government says it will commence distribution of subsidised agrochemicals to farmers across the state on Monday as part of efforts to boost agricultural productivity and strengthen food security.

The Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Mr Ebenezer Boluwade, disclosed this in a statement on Friday in Ado-Ekiti.

Boluwade said the flag-off ceremony would be held at 10 a.m. on July 20 at the Fadama Office, New Secretariat, Ado-Ekiti.

He said the initiative was aimed at reducing production costs for farmers while improving agricultural output across the state.

According to him, the programme underscores the commitment of Gov. Biodun Oyebanji's administration to supporting farmers and promoting sustainable agricultural development.

The commissioner invited farmers, agricultural stakeholders and members of the public to attend the ceremony.

The newly inaugurated National Vice President (External Affairs) of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Comrade Sadiq SK Zango, has unveiled a strategic engagement agenda aimed at strengthening partnerships between NANS and key national and international institutions.

Speaking shortly after his inauguration, Comrade Zango emphasized that the Office of the National Vice President (External Affairs) would prioritize constructive engagement with government institutions, the private sector, diplomatic missions, development partners, civil society organizations, and international agencies to expand opportunities available to Nigerian students.

According to him, the challenges confronting education require collaboration rather than confrontation.

“The future of Nigerian students depends on our ability to build strategic partnerships that translate into scholarships, leadership development, entrepreneurship support, innovation, technology transfer, research opportunities, international exchanges, and sustainable youth empowerment.”

He noted that the Office of External Affairs would pursue a diplomacy-driven approach that promotes dialogue, mutual respect, and institutional cooperation while safeguarding the interests of Nigerian students.

Comrade Zango called on public institutions, corporate organizations, donor agencies, alumni associations, and well-meaning Nigerians to collaborate with NANS in creating sustainable opportunities that prepare students for national development and global competitiveness.

He reaffirmed that the 2026 National Leadership of NANS remains committed to responsible engagement, professionalism, and impactful partnerships that will benefit millions of students across the Federation.
