Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji has approved the release of the sum of one billion naira as gratuity to State pensioners.

Similarly, the Governor has also approved payment of two months pension arrears to local government pensioners.

This is coming barely a month after the Governor distributed a total N3.5 billion in gratuity cheques to retirees in the state, in a bold effort aimed at offseting the backlog of outstanding gratuities.

Additionally, Governor Oyebanji has also approved payment of two months outstanding subvention to Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti and one month outstanding subvention each to Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, (EKSUTH), Ado-Ekiti; Bamidele Olomilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere-Ekiti; and College of Health Science and Technology, Ijero- Ekiti. 

Also, approved for release is one month outstanding subvention to the Judiciary.

The payments are in fulfilment of the Governor’s promise to priortise welfare and wellbeing of workers and retirees and ensure that all outstanding entitlements of workers and pensioners owed by previous administrations are paid to them in line with the continuity and shared prosperity agenda of the administration.

The Governor urges workers in the state to remain focused on excellent service delivery, assuring them of his administration’s commitment to their welfare as well as payment of all their entitlements.

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, has paid off two months of outstanding subventions to Ekiti State University (EKSU), signaling a major victory for the state’s education sector. This payment, which has been hailed as a much-needed relief for the institution, comes after the university faced financial challenges due to the backlog of unpaid subventions.

In a related development, the Governor’s administration also extended financial support to other state educational institutions. Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH) and Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology (BOUESTI) each received one month of subvention.

Governor Oyebanji, who assumed office in October 2022, has repeatedly emphasized that education is a key priority of his administration. The recent payments to EKSU, EKSUTH, and BOUESTI align with his vision to enhance the state’s educational system, ensuring the smooth running of these institutions and improving the welfare of staff and students.

The Ekiti State Government, has tasked the new board members of some Agencies and Commissions  appointed by Governor Biodun Oyebanji to devise new innovations to tackle rising cases of disasters and boundary disputes in the state.  

The Ekiti State Deputy Governor, Chief (Mrs) Monisade Afuye, gave the charge, on Wednesday , while receiving the Chairmen and board members of the Ekiti State Emergency Management Agency(EKSEMA) and Ekiti State Boundary Commission, in her office in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State Capital.

In her interface with the members, Mrs Afuye, in a statement by her Special Assistant on Media, Victor Ogunje, congratulated the board members for their appointments, urging them to be loyal and honest to the state in the discharge of their statutory duties.

She described the issues woven around disaster management and settling of land disputes as sensitive, urging them to exercise caution and be dispassionate while meddling in such issues.

She said: "When the appointments were made, it was with enthusiasm and with expectations that things will get better with the qualities of those that were brought on board by Governor Biodun Oyebanji to serve.

"Particularly, EKSEMA is an important agency of government. Nobody prays for calamities, but you can't prevent them from happening. When you pray for rain, it may come with storm and constitute problem for the populace. All we have to do is to manage the situation.

"The Governor  is expecting 100% commitment and performance from you, please, don't disappoint him. The board members are people with experiences in their chosen careers, who will add value to governance in Ekiti State", she stated.

Mrs Afuye assured that some of the challenges being faced by the Agency and Commission will be resolved, so that members can be be proficient in handling matters brought before them.

The Chairman of the Board of EKSEMA, Alhaji Ademola Bello, described the appointments as great opportunity to make positive impacts in the lives of Ekiti populace, by coming with ideas that will stem the tides of natural and man- made disasters in the state.

Bello, former Special Adviser, promised that the board members have come with several innovations that will ease disaster management in Ekiti, to complement the strategies already put in place by government.

Also, the Chairman of the Boundary Commission, Surv. Kayode Olaosebikan, appreciated Governor Oyebanji for the appointment, promising to bring his wealth of experience to bear to add value to boundary issues in Ekiti.

Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, has expressed his condolences on the death of the Chief of the Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja.

General Lagbaja who hailed from Osun State, died after a period of illness. He was aged 56 years old.

The Governor in a statement on Wednesday by his Special Adviser on Media, Yinka Oyebode, described the death of Gen. Lagbaja as a monumental loss to the nation.

He described the deceased as a dedicated soldier, a committed officer and a tested general who fought many battles to defend the territorial integrity of the country.

Governor Oyebanji pointed out that the deceased committed his youthful and adult life to the service of the nation as a commissioned officer of the Nigerian Army and served meritoriously in many formations across the country.

According to him, history would always be kind to Gen. Lagbaja in the fight against insurgency in the Northeast as the Theatre Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole in which he deployed his skills and experience to ensure the routing of terrorists.

He said Gen. Lagbaja's exploits was recognized in the Multinational Joint Task Force (MJTF) as a leading commander of the troops from the countries in the Lake Chad Basin in their quest to defeat insurgency.

Governor Oyebanji stressed that the deceased's industry and resourcefulness were instrumental to his appointment as the Chief of the Army Staff, noting that although his tenure was brief, it was remarkable especially in the deployment of technology in soldiering.

Recalling his encounters with the late COAS, the Governor said the late Chief of Army Staff’s swift response to the security challenge in Ekiti State after the gruesome murder of two traditional rulers and the kidnapping of school children is responsible for the current peaceful atmosphere in the state.

Governor Oyebanji commiserated with the family of the deceased urging them to take solace in the worthy legacies left behind by the three-star general.

The Governor also extended his condolences to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Service Chiefs, the Army High Command, the government and people of Osun State and the entire nation on the loss of a great patriot.

OYEBANJI APPOINTS JUSTICE OGUNMOYE AS  ACTING CHIEF JUDGE.


Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, has appointed Hon. Justice Lekan Adekanye Ogunmoye as Acting Chief Judge of the State.

This is in furtherance of the powers conferred on the Governor by Section 271 (4) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).

The appointment of Hon Justice Ogunmoye takes effect from November 5, 2024.

He replaces the former Chief Judge, Hon Justice John Oyewole Adeyeye, who passed on November 4, 2024.

Born on November 6, 1963, Hon. Justice Ogunmoye was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1987,  and was appointed a judge on April 1, 2010.

Governor Oyebanji wishes the new Acting Chief Judge a successful tenure.

The Governor of Ekiti State, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, has expressed condolences on the death of the Chief Judge of the State, Hon. Justice John Oyewole Adeyeye. 

Justice Adeyeye, who was inaugurated as Ekiti State Chief Judge on October 11, 2021, passed on Monday. He was aged 64 years old. 

Governor Oyebanji, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media, Yinka Oyebode, described the late Justice Adeyeye's demise as heartrending and a colossal loss for the State.

The Governor  said with the death of the late Justice Adeyeye, the Judiciary in Ekiti State in particular and Nigeria in general has lost a great pillar and an asset whose worth is invaluable.

The Ekiti helmsman described the deceased as a firm and forthright jurist who demonstrated an unwavering dedication to the principles of equity and justice. 

Governor Oyebanji noted that the deceased worked hard for a vibrant and independent Judiciary in his lifetime which made that arm of government to contribute to good governance and the defence of the rights of citizens.

He added that the late Justice Adeyeye did his best in advocating better welfare for judicial officers and staff members of the Ekiti State Judiciary to ensure effective service delivery and smooth running of the justice sector.

The Governor prayed God to grant the immediate and extended family of the deceased and the people of Araromi Ugbesi in Ekiti East Local Government area, members of the Bar and the Bench, the fortitude to bear the loss.

He urged the family to be consoled by the great impact and the sterling contributions of the deceased to the justice sector and overall development of the state.

“This is indeed a great loss to our dear state. On behalf of the Government and people of Ekiti State, I commiserate with the family of the late Hon Justice Adeyeye and pray that the good Lord will console and comfort them, and grant the dear departed eternal rest.”, the Governor added.

Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji , has restated the state government’s ban on the use of public schools premises for social functions, adding that any head of school that flouts the directive would be heavily sanctioned. 

The ban, according to the Governor, is to preserve and protect facilities in the public schools and make them conducive for learning. 

Oyebanji bemoaned how facilities in schools were being destroyed by people who hired them for social engagements, like burial parties, wedding receptions saying such trend could destroy the functionality of public schools if allowed to continue unabated. 


The Governor stated this at his Ikogosi Ekiti home town, on Saturday, during the 2024 Ikogosi Day celebrations and launch of N1 billion Development Fund, which was attended by high profile dignitaries across the nation.

Addressing the gathering, Governor Oyebanji said his government owes the people the onerous duty of preserving their investments in education and infrastructures, adding the step was taken to ensure that education is not destroyed on the altar of dispensing patronages to people.

Oyebanji stressed that the Ikogosi Day celebrations was held at a private field and not in a school premises in compliance with the ban on the use of public schools premises 

He said: "We were to hold this function within the premises of Baptist Primary School, Ikogosi, which is a public primary school, but I said no, that this place, which is a private place should be used. 

"This is a signal to those who will be calling me and sending text messages that they want to use government schools for social functions that there is a ban on it and I am restating this here today.

"We have a duty to make our schools safe and well protected. I want to charge all the chairmen of the local governments and heads of schools to enforce this. You must make sure that the use of public schools for burial, wedding and other social functions is stopped".

In an apparent reference to the suspension of an erring official over the matter, the Governor said government is prepared to sanction more violators of the ban order.



Commenting on the current  economic situation in the country , Oyebanji urged  well meaning indigenes  to reach out to the poor, in order to cushion the effect of the current hardship on them, adding  it is expedient  to exhibit love to neighbours at this crucial time.

The governor appreciated those who contributed to the development of the town through financial and material donations, stressing that the gestures has further reinforced the spirit of love and unity among Ekiti citizens . 

Further in his message of hope, Oyebanji was emphatic that his government won't be distracted in the bid to spread development to all the communities, as demonstrated in his commitment to increasing infrastructures and public utilities. 

One of the major high points of the event was when the Governor joined other indigenes of the town to file out and oay  homage to the town monarch. 

Speaking at the occasion, the Regent of Ikogosi Community, Princess Omobola Adepoju, applauded Governor Oyebanji, for his love for humanity, especially Ekiti people, Ikogosi inclusive, saying she was proud of the governor's accomplishments in the last two years.

Princess Adepoju saluted the Governor for creating enabling environment to make the Gossy Water brand, being produced from the Ikogosi Warm Springs, one of the best selling bottled water brands in the country, among other initiatives that have upscaled development in the community.  

"By what the Governor has done in Ekiti in terms of development in infrastructures and human capital development, the governor  has written his name in gold. I am particularly happy with his love for community development, which he has extended to this town", she said.
