Yahaya Bello sacks four Kogi monarchs, appoints new Ohinoyi.

The Kogi State Government has deposed four traditional rulers, including a first-class traditional ruler, the Ohimege Igu, Konto-Nkarfe, and Alhaji Abdulrazaq Koto.

Koto was subsequently banished to Rijau Local Government Area of Niger State.

The state governor, Alhaji Yayaha Bello, also appointed Alhaji Salihu Seidu, popularly known as SAS, to replace the deposed Ohimege.

“He is to be turbaned immediately to avoid vacuum,” Bello said.

The governor also announced the appointment of Alhaji Ahmed Anaje, who until now is the Ohi of Okenwen, as the new Ohinoyi of Ebiraland.

The governor’s address on the appointments delivered shortly after a meeting held with members of the state executive committee reads, “Having followed through our Traditional and Chieftaincy Laws, rules and regulations and all the due processes, we have come to the following resolutions.

“His Royal Highness, Alhaji Abdulrazaq Isah Koto, the Ohimege-Igu Koton-Karfe, who is also the Chairman, Lokoja/ Kogi Local Government Area Traditional Council is hereby removed and to be deposed to Rijau Local Government Area of Niger State.

“His Royal Highness, Samuel Adayi Onimisi, the Obobanyi of Emani, is removed and to be deposed to Doko, Lavun Local Government Area of Niger State.

“That similarly, on decision No. 3, the title “Obobanyi of Ihima” which reads on the promotion letter, upgrading the stool to first class status, was done without cognisance to the fact that the title; “Obobanyi of Ihima” is a subject of litigation and the court of law is yet to arrive at the possible final decision, as such, the government has however received several petitions, calling attention to the need to revert and maintain status quo, until the court of law decides.

“To this end, the stool is hereby reverted to “Obobanyi of Ihima” as the present occupant remains deposed.

“His Royal Highness, Boniface Musa, the Onu-Ife in Omala Local Government is to be suspended, indefinitely.”

The governor added that some decisions were taken on some stools after due intervention by the government to resolve the lingering controversies that have characterised the selection process.

He added, “The government, hereby, comes up with the following appointments of the next occupants.

“Alhaji Ibrahim Gambo Kabir is hereby appointed as the Maigari of Lokoja.

“Alhaji Dauda Isah, is hereby appointed as the Maiyaki of Kupa.

“Similarly, going by the selection decision of the Odaki Ruling House dated 27/4/2012 and endorsed by the Lokoja/Kogi Local Government Area Traditional Council, dated 14/5/2012, Mallam Saidu Akawo Salihu is hereby appointed as the Ohimege-Igu Koton-Karfe and to be turbaned immediately to avoid vacuum.

“Finally, going by the high court judgment of 1998, which give full recognition to Ododo as bonafide child of Ita’azi the father of Ebira land and Uhuodo as a distinct district in Ebira land with equal rights as others, therefore, the stool of Ohi of Uhuodo
is hereby created and processes for the occupation of the stool to commence with immediate effect.”

TB Joshua raped, tortured members – BBC investigation.

TB Joshua raped, tortured members – BBC investigation.

No fewer than 25 persons have given eyewitness accounts bordering on allegations of sexual assault, physical abuse, faked miracles and trauma -allegedly suffered in the hands of a late Nigerian pastor, Temitope Joshua, aka TB Joshua, BBC reports Monday.

Joshua, one of Africa’s most influential religious leaders and richest pastors, had the world at his feet during his lifetime.

He was the founder of the Synagogue Church of All Nations, a 12-storey building, situated in the Ikotun area of Lagos State, where he lived alongside many of his followers.

Joshua was popular for his miracles – which ‘delivered’ people – followers and visitors – of any ailment, ranging from cancer and HIV/AIDS to chronic migraines and blindness.

The healings performed by Joshua caught the attention of a far-reaching global audience among evangelical churches throughout Europe and Africa in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

Many of his followers were drawn by his philanthropy, but most came for his so-called miracles.

PUNCH Online reports that the clergy, born in 1963, died on Saturday, June 5, 2021, a week before his 58th birthday.

The cause of his death was not revealed.

However, a statement by the church said the clergyman spent his last moment on earth in the service of God.

However, the BBC said it conducted a two-year investigation, in collaboration with an international media platform – Open Democracy, which involved more than 15 BBC journalists across three continents.

The report stated that former insiders estimated that Joshua made tens of millions of dollars from pilgrims and other money streams – fundraising, video sales, and stadium appearances abroad.

The investigation centered around allegations of sexual assault, physical abuse, solitary confinement, and fake miracles, amongst others.

“More than 25 eyewitnesses and alleged victims, from the UK, Nigeria, Ghana, US, South Africa and Germany, have provided accounts of what it was like inside Joshua’s compound, with the most recent experiences in 2019.

“Testimony from dozens of survivors suggests Joshua was abusing and raping young women from around the world several times a week for nearly 20 years.” the report noted.

One of the victims who was part of the ‘disciples,’ an elite group of followers who served and lived with Joshua inside his compound; 21-year-old female Briton, Rae, gave a recount of her experience.

She was, at that time, studying graphic design at a university in Brighton, UK, in 2002.

A close friend of Rae, Carla, recalled how they both travelled to Nigeria in search of a mysterious man who could seemingly heal people with his hands. He was a Christian pastor, with a black beard, in white robes. His name was TB Joshua. His followers called him “The Prophet.”

Rae and Carla planned to visit his church, the SCOAN, for just one week. But Rae never came home. She had moved into Joshua’s compound.

“I left her there,” says Carla, tears flowing freely. “Never will I ever forgive myself for that.

“For me, it was like she died, but I couldn’t grieve her,” Carla revealed.

Rae, in her account, stated that she was gay and thought being healed by Joshua would solve her predicament.

She narrated, “I was gay and I didn’t want to be,” she says. “I thought: ‘Well, maybe this is the answer to my problems. Maybe this man can straighten me out. Like if he prays for me, I won’t be gay anymore.'”

Rae described the moment she stepped foot into the Synagogue, saying, “I had a really involuntary reaction. I just broke down in floods of tears.”

She stated that at that point, Joshua singled her out to become a “disciple.”

She had thought the clergyman would “cure” her sexuality and learn under his tutelage, but to her imagination, her thought never materialised.

“We all thought we were in heaven, but we were in hell,” adding, “And in hell terrible things happen.”

Rae narrated how she went through psychological trauma for two years, during which she was forbidden from leaving the compound, and nobody inside was allowed to talk to her., adding that she attempted to commit suicide five times.

Many of the victims said it happened frequently – as much as two to four times a week – for the duration of their time in the compound. Some described violent rapes which left them struggling to breathe or bleeding.

Many believed they were the only ones being assaulted and did not dare share what was happening to them with the other disciples, as they were all encouraged to report on each other.

Rae noted that it’s “extremely difficult to understand how somebody can go through psychological abuse to the extent that they lose their critical thinking.”

“I was basically in total isolation… I had a complete breakdown. I tried to commit suicide five times,” she said.

After spending 12 years inside Joshua’s compound, Rae returned to England.

She had slipped away from the disciples while travelling with the church on a tour to Mexico, stating, “He made a huge mistake, he lost control of me.”

Rae stated that it was only after she left that she realised that her family and friends had been sending her emails. She had never received them.

“On the outside, I look normal, but I’m not. This story is like a horror story. It’s like something you watch in fiction, but it’s true,” Rae said while she recalled the tragic trauma and the impacts it’s had on her.

She expressed her disappointment that Joshua didn’t wait to face the consequences of the atrocities he had committed before his death.

“TB Joshua dying before facing justice for the atrocities he committed, has been deeply frustrating. It’s only added to the gross sense of injustice felt by all of us as his victims,” she noted.

BBC stated that it contacted SCOAN with the allegations in the investigation. They did not respond to them but denied previous claims against Joshua.

“Making unfounded allegations against Prophet TB Joshua is not a new occurrence… None of the allegations was ever substantiated,” the church stated.

The BBC stated that former followers have previously tried to speak out about abuse, but say they had been silenced or discredited by SCOAN, while two said they were physically assaulted.

When the BBC’s Africa Eye was filming outside the church, a security guard shot above the heads of the crew after they refused to hand over their material, the report noted.

A Nigerian, Bisola, who was also a ‘disciple,’ stated that she was raped multiple times by the late clergyman.

Bisola, who spent 14 years inside the compound, added that she was asked to recruit virgin girls into the disciple fold under threats of violence.

“TB Joshua asked me to recruit virgins for him… So that he could bring them into the disciple-fold and disvirgin them,” she revealed.

Bisola told the BBC that courting Westerners was a key tactic employed by Joshua

“He used the white people to market his brand,” she said.

The report stated that many of the young people who left their home countries to meet Joshua in the early 2000s didn’t pay for their tickets.

It added that Church groups across England raised funds to send pilgrims to Lagos to witness these miracles – and Joshua contributed Scoan money himself, senior former church insiders said.

Later, once the church was well established, Joshua charged high prices for pilgrims to come and stay.

A broadcast journalist in Namibia, Jessica Kaimu, narrated that she was raped by Joshua at the age of 17, in the bathroom of his penthouse, within weeks of her becoming a disciple.

She stated that Joshua wasn’t moved by her screams, saying, “I was screaming and he was whispering in my ear that I should stop acting like a baby… I was so traumatised, I couldn’t cry.”

Kaimu noted that she was raped for five years throughout her stay as a disciple.

A woman who craved anonymity stated that it happened to her twice before the age of 15.

“It was so painful, he violated me. Words cannot properly express it. It scarred me for life,” she said.

The report noted that there were accounts by four of Joshua’s male personal servants who were given the job of clearing up the physical evidence of this abuse.

“We’d never… seen anything like that before,” said a journalist who covers African religion, Solomon Ashoms, adding, “The mysteries that he had, the secrets that he carried, [were] what people followed.”

Another victim, Victoria (not real name), stated that she spent more than five years in the compound, adding that some victims were often hand-picked by Joshua from the church congregation.

While recounting her ordeal, Victoria said she was picked out while attending the church’s Sunday school, and says she was raped in Joshua’s private quarters a few months later, after her parents entrusted her into his care.

She was later recruited as a resident disciple.

Victoria said TB Joshua ordered some of his most trusted Nigerian disciples to help identify new victims, identifying the group which was informally known as the “fishing department.”

A former South African disciple, Sihle, narrated that she had three forced abortions in the church.

Sihle said, “You are given a concoction to drink and you get sick. Or they put these metal pieces in your vagina and they extract whatever. And you don’t know whether they’re [accidentally] pulling out your womb.”

The investigative report noted that the disciples served Joshua’s every need, from massages to helping him dress, and spray his perfume when he entered the room.

They also placed plastic gloves on his hands so he could eat his food without touching a crumb.

A man once regarded as TB Joshua’s number two in the church, Agomoh Paul, who left after 10 years in the compound, revealed that the whole miracle thing was scripted.

“That guy [was] a genius. Everything… [he did was] planned out,” Paul stated.

A major part of this planning was the faking of the “miracles” said Paul, which he noted he oversaw.

He and other sources say that those “cured” had often been paid to perform or exaggerate their symptoms before their supposed healing took place.

In some cases, they say, people had been unknowingly drugged or given medicine to improve their conditions while at the church, and later persuaded to give testimony about their recovery. Others were falsely told they had tested positive for HIV/AIDS and that, thanks to Joshua’s ministrations, they had now become virus-free.

Paul also noted that TB Joshua “wanted to control everybody, everything. What he was really scrambling for [was] the control of people’s minds.”

The disciples said they were made to work, without pay, for long hours each day – running all aspects of the megachurch. All say sleep deprivation was routine, with lights left on in the dormitories at night, the report stated.

The church, which is still in operation today, is led by his widow, Evelyn.

In his lifetime, TB Joshua attracted dozens of politicians and celebrities to his church.

Ekiti Governor, Abiodun Oyebanji, Honored as Governor of the Year 2023 by Irohinoodua.

Ekiti Governor, Abiodun Oyebanji, Honored as Governor of the Year 2023 by Irohinoodua.

The first and oldest Pan-Yoruba media online, Irohinoodua, has announced the Governor of Ekiti State, Abiodun Oyebanji  as the 2023 Governor of the year.

The group made the announcement in a statement on Monday. Irohinoodua Editorial Board said  Oyebanji was selected by the group’s Editorial Board enriched by reports received from thousands of respondents to the call for nomination announced by the group in November last year.

In the statement signed by Mr Adewunmi Akinola and Mrs Omolade Adegbuyi on behalf of the Editorial Board, the group said Oyebanji emerged based on important political, cultural and economic considerations.

On the economic front, Irohinoodua described his achievements within one year as indications that Oyebanji is a great leader to watch in Nigeria’s search for global standards in the country’s political and economic renaissance.

Irohinoodua said Oyebanji in just one year, facilitated the installation of 3.5MW Independent Power Plant, connected Ayekire/Gonyin to the National Grid after 10 years of neglect, reconstructed and launched massive road projects which included but not limited to the building of 43.4km farm roads in six Local Government areas of the state, backed by the recently launched 77kms roads to advance the Ekiti State Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP), the notorious Ado-Ilawe Road, asphalt overlay of Ado township roads in the midst of on-going agrarian revolution.

The Editorial Board said Oyebanji deserves full commendation for providing 50 percent subsidy for cocoa, cashew, coffee, rice, maize, cassava production apart from the huge funding provided for Livestock Productivity and resilience Support, (LPRES) with huge harvest outcomes beginning from the year 2024.

These radical steps are bound to transform agriculture in the entire South West and place Ekiti on the map of sustainable food production. He has brought back the prospect of Ekiti State reclaiming her lost glory as one of the most successful producers of Cocoa and Coffee in Nigeria.
Irohinoodua stated.

‘We are impressed by his partnership with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Pro-CASHEW Programme which has led to the establishment of the first government owned scion garden and polyclonal cashew demonstration farm in Nigeria.’

It cited the Governor’s recruitment of sign language experts into public schools and public institutions as a show of deep concern to meet United Nations standards on People With Disabilities, (PWD) while his commitment to promote feedback mechanism by setting up Emergency Command Centre is remarkable. Irohinoodua said Oyebanji has shown commitment to productivity by setting targets for all his aides and by imposing sanctions on those found wanting, an indication of his commitment to fight corruption and instil discipline with the framework of good governance in the state.

He has ensured 90% CONHESS and 100% hazard allowance for health workers in all the local government areas while 50,000 indigenes in five local government are now covered under the Ulera Wa Health Insurance Intervention. With 17 Emergency Operations Centres (EOCs) established to meet discovery and response to health emergencies in 17 Local Government Areas with the plan to extend the scheme across all the local governments, Ekiti State is in the process of building a primary health culture that ensures health workers visit homes of locals to provide medicare services within the shortest period.

In the area of Culture, ‘He has espoused the Yoruba concept of Omoluabi in the finest manner. Humanity and humility are essential ingredients absent in leadership in Nigeria. Oyebanji has combined both traits in the most astonishing manner. He has adopted the Philosophy of Collective Leadership through constructive engagement with the different layers and social strata in Ekiti State bringing the concept of servant-leader to the door steps of the people of the State.

This remains a huge source of inspiration to people who aspire to public office anywhere in Nigeria’, the group said. He is known for meeting people on the streets and in their homes sharing their experiences, fears and aspirations thereby closing the gap between people and their elected leaders with a people’s sense of ownership of governance enforced.

He does this with neither photo opportunism nor attempt to harvest political capital.
According to Irohinoodua ‘We find the Ekiti State Governor, His Excellency Abiodun Oyebani as the greatest bridge builder in the year 2023. Politically, He sought and found conflict prevention and peace building necessary for sustainable development in his state.’

The group said Oyebanji made deliberate efforts to reach out to sworn political foes and bitter, recalcitrant enemies in the most practical and meaningful manner lowering the bar of acrimony often associated with politics in many of the South West States and in Nigeria at large
Irohinoodua said Oyebanji has established himself as a visionary, calculating, meticulous, righteous and  forthright leader driven by a deep sense of fairness combined with wisdom in his unflinching commitment to the advancement of the welfare of his people in all aspects of human endeavours.

Lawmakers budget fresh N30bn for N’Assembly renovation.

Lawmakers budget fresh N30bn for N’Assembly renovation.

Lawmakers have budgeted an additional N30bn for the renovation of the National Assembly Complex in the 2024 Appropriation Bill.

The N30bn earmarked for the renovation of the building was part of the N344.85bn budgeted for the National Assembly after they raised their allocations from N197.93bn.

The N344.85bn, signed by President Bola Tinubu on January 1, is the highest ever allocated to the legislature.

The additional N30bn brings to N60bn the amount being spent on the renovation of the National Assembly complex.

The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, who is also the President of the National Assembly, had on June 30, 2023, declared that Tinubu would in December, last year inaugurate the N30bn different ongoing projects at the National Assembly.

Akpabio said, “The entire complex of the National Assembly is like a construction site due to ongoing general renovation work and fresh projects which would, on completion, be inaugurated by President Bola Tinubu in December this year (2023).”

The renovation was initially billed to be completed and delivered in August 2022 but the delivery date was later moved to January 2023 and then December 2023.

As of January 2024, the renovation of the National Assembly Complex is yet to be completed with skeletal work ongoing on the premises.

Our correspondent, who was at the site on Saturday, observed that the contractor, Visible Construction Company, was still at work.

An official of the construction firm, who spoke to our correspondent anonymously, said, “People keep blaming us for not finishing the project but those with the money have refused to release money to us.

“How are we expected to finish the work without money? If money is released to our company, the project will be done in no time.”

Earlier during an oversight visit by the Senate Committee on Federal Capital Territory, the site engineer, Tajudeen Olanipekun, blamed “fluctuations in the value of naira to the United States dollar for the delay.”

“This has hampered the importation of required materials and equipment, in addition to the need for more funds from the FCDA,” he said.

However, the Head, Public Relations, Federal Capital Development Agency, Richard Nduul, in June disclosed that N19bn had been paid to the construction company.

He said, “I would like to refer you to a recent press briefing by the Executive Secretary, Engr. Shehu Hadi Ahmad, just about three weeks ago, where disclosed that so far about N19bn has been expended out of the sum of N30bn being the cost of the contract awarded in 2021 to Messrs Visible Construction Nigeria Limited with a completion date of August 2023.

“This project when completed, will bring the Complex to the status of a world-class parliamentary building that will ensure both the comfort, convenience and functionality of the complex,” Nduul added.

However, when our correspondent called Nduul to get an update on how much had been expended on the project, he said he was on sick leave.

He said, “Please call back on Monday so that I can get the records from the concerned department.”

In the same vein, our reporter reached out to the site engineer, Olanipekun for comment on the amount paid, but he refused to pick up his calls and even blocked our correspondent from reaching him.

He had also refused to reply to the text messages sent to him.

Aiyedatiwa denies plan to dissolve Ondo APC leadership.

Aiyedatiwa denies plan to dissolve Ondo APC leadership.

The new Governor of Ondo State, Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has denied plans to dissolve the leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress in the state.

The governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Ebenezer Adeniyan, told The PUNCH that his principal had no such plan.

“I don’t think so; I am not aware of such a plan, it’s not true,” Adeniyan said in reaction to a statement on Sunday by a group, the Ondo Elite Group, warning Aiyedatiwa against tampering with the existing APC political structure of the state.

The PUNCH reports that Aiyedatiwa moved from being Ondo State’s acting governor to becoming the substantive governor on December 27, 2023, following the death of his principal, former governor Rotimi Akeredolu.

Akeredolu died after a protracted battle with prostate cancer, which kept him away from the state for many months, with the opposition party pressuring him to relinquish power and focus on his health.

Amid the sickness, the relationship between Akeredolu and Aiyedatiwa broke down while the state House of Assembly plotted the deputy governor’s impeachment.

Aiyedatiwa survived the impeachment plot following the intervention of President Bola Tinubu.

Since he became substantive governor, there had been fear that he might go after Akeredolu’s loyalists, some of whom immediately resigned their appointments in the cabinet.

However, in his maiden address, Aiyedatiwa promised to continue from where his predecessor stopped, calling on all the stakeholders to join him in sustaining the legacy of the late former governor.

But in a statement on Saturday, the Ondo Elite Group called on Aiyedatiwa not to change the APC political structure in the state, warning that such a move would spell doom for the party in the governorship election coming up later this year.

The group’s General Secretary, Chief Yemi Oladiran, said tension was gradually brewing in the Ondo APC over an alleged plan to oust and replace the party leadership in the state to suit their candidate in the next election.

Oladiran said, “Dissolution of the state executive of the party will negate the agreement Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa signed with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the crisis that engulfed the state over the friction between the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu and Aiyedatiwa.

“What we are guarding against is a repeat of what happened in Zamfara State; we cannot allow this to happen in Ondo State because we play the game by the rules and are guided by the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Oladiran said the group was proud of the leadership of the Ondo APC chairman, Ade Adetimehin, warning that “tampering with the present leadership in the state party or the exco would be counterproductive and spell doom for the party.”

“The understanding between the executive members of Ondo APC and the government is cordial and we should go into this election as one.

“We’re proud of the leadership of the state chairman, Ade Adetimehin. He has been able to stabilise the party since he became the chairman of the party. Nobody changes a winning team, the present leadership has two more years to complete its term. They should be allowed to usher in a new governor after the November election,” Oladiran said.

Meanwhile, the APC Stakeholders in the Ondo West Local Government Area of Ondo State advised Aiyedatiwa to be strategic and conscientious in choosing his deputy.

The group also urged him to pick a young and vibrant person from the Ondo West LGA as the deputy.

Speaking in Ondo town on the matter, the leader of the group, Adekunle Fela, said all the APC stakeholders in the local government had endorsed a chieftain of the party, Dr Thomas Akinwolere to be picked as the deputy governor, calling on Aiyedatiwa to consider their choice.

He said, “It has become important for us to issue this emergency press conference as a way of calling the attention of the newly sworn-in Governor of Ondo State, His Excellency Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, to matters that affect our dear state.

“Following the unfortunate loss of our great icon and leader, Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, it has become our collective responsibility to ensure that the good people of Ondo State continue to enjoy good governance without any hitches. It is to this effect that we congratulate the erstwhile Deputy Governor who has now been sworn in as Executive Governor, in person of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa.

“However, we must also use this medium to communicate to the governor that he must be strategic and conscientious in the selection of who will emerge as his deputy governor.

Before now, we have made it known that whoever will be chosen to deputise the new governor, must be selected from Ondo town and must also be a youth who understands the dynamics of our great party and is also passionate about public service.

“Hence, all party faithful, stalwarts and stakeholders in Ondo West of Ondo Central Senatorial District, Ondo State have agreed on the choice of our son, Akinwolere Babajide Thomas, popularly known as Apata, to emerge as the next deputy governor of Ondo State for the remaining part of this administration.”
