FG moves to raise power supply in Ekiti, delivers equipment, accessories for 132KV power substations.

FG moves to raise power supply in Ekiti, delivers equipment, accessories for 132KV power substations.

The Federal Government has stepped up efforts at boosting electricity supply in Ekiti State with the delivery of equipment and supplies t and accessories for  two 132/33KV stations along with transmission lines to the State.

Receiving the equipment on behalf of Transmission Corporation of Nigeria (TCN) on Saturday at the Omisanjana 132/33Kv station in Ado-Ekiti, the State Commissioner for Infrastructure and Public Utilities, Prof. Bolaji Aluko - accompanied by Ekiti TCN General Manager Engr. Victor Famoroti - said the substations will be installed in Ilupeju Ekiti and Ijesa Isu Ekiti to improve transmission of bulk power supply to the North and other senatorial districts of the state, with a switching station at Ikere.

While lauding the Federal Government and Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji for fast-tracking the two substations projects, the Commissioner said the additional substations, which are aimed at revolutionizing Ekiti state power sector, will serve as 240MVA total addition (four new transforners of 60MVA each) to the 140MVA-3-transforrners Omisanjana substation in Ado-Ekiti.

He added that the project will be completed before the end of the year.

According to Prof Aluko, “Those two stations will be like the Omisanjana station where we are standing right now. This project has been going on for almost three years and increasingly more of the equipment has come in. About four or five months ago, a set of trucks like this consignment  came in. They were delivered at Ijesa Isu, Ikere and Ilupeju, but this is the largest group that has come in now, 15 trucks of various kinds of equipment, poles, wires, transformers.

“All of these things are in these trucks and containers, to be offloaded in the next few days.

“You know, this work takes a while, I'm sure it will still take about six months for full installation, you know, you do installation, poles installation, wiring,  you do testing, and so on. We are hopeful that by the end of this year, it will be ready, we've been waiting for three years, and so, we can still wait till the end of the year.”

While commending Governor Oyebanji for the installation of Independent Power Project (IPP) in the state as the only power generating station in the state, Prof. Aluko noted “Until we had our IPP in the state, we had no generation plant in the state, generation of power itself is a problem in the state, but we now have an IPP.

“Aside of these IPP generation, we’ve been depending on the national grid lines. So Omisanjana is the only power station that admits 132 kV and radiates 33 kV. The two additional lines with all these equipment that we have will allow us to have two additional stations like Omisanjana in the state, so that 33 kV lines can radiate from more stations in the state and further boost electricity supply to more areas.

“This stations will bring quality electricity nearer to the people, one thing about electricity is that the farther it is from where it comes in to where it is consumed, the more it loses power potency. So, when you have more stations like this in more parts of the state, the electricity will get to more towns with greater power than just one that we have in Omisanjana going to all parts of the state. That's why this is extremely important to us.

“Furthermore, it will increase the capacity of the grid lines in Ekiti state to accept more power so that there will be no excuses from maybe the national grid or from new generation plants that we do not have enough lines to accept the power that they are going to provide",  the Commissioner stated.

One Good Term Deserved Another: The Oyebanji Transformation Story in Ekiti-State.

One Good Term Deserved Another: The Oyebanji Transformation Story in Ekiti-State.
By Idowu Ephraim Faleye.

When Governor Biodun Oyebanji sat down for Part 2 of his exclusive interview with TVC’s Journalists Hangout on Sunday, May 4th, 2025, it wasn’t just another political media outing. It was a heart-to-heart session, the kind that hits home and makes you pause to appreciate the journey of leadership. From his words, you could feel that this man wasn’t just holding office; he was living the experience—deeply, intentionally, and with genuine love for Ekiti State. It was more than soundbites—it was truth seasoned with passion and vision.

He began by reflecting on the past two and a half years, not with prideful chest-thumping, but with heartfelt humility. "The last two and a half years have been a profound learning curve," he said, and you could tell he meant it. He described it as a privilege—yes, a privilege—to serve and deeply connect with the people of Ekiti. He spoke of how the feedback from the people, their warmth, and their honest opinions were what kept his team going through thick and thin. It’s not every day you hear a politician say the people’s feedback “keeps us going.” That’s not just PR; that’s someone who is genuinely listening.

And he wasn’t just listening; he was acting. He spoke extensively about agriculture—not in vague, political terms, but with the clarity of a man who understands its potential and is already proving what can be achieved. “Agriculture is our lifeline in Ekiti,” he declared. You might think that’s just a slogan, but then he dropped the fact: agriculture contributes over 60% to Ekiti’s GDP. That’s huge. For a state like Ekiti, with its vast arable land and rich farming tradition, this should not come as a surprise, but what’s striking is how deliberately his administration has positioned agriculture to feed people, create wealth, and secure lives.

He wasn’t throwing money at agriculture the way governments have done in the past. No. He is redefining what agriculture means for young people. Imagine onboarding nearly 3,000 youths into six agric clusters, giving them not just land or cutlasses, but real tools, real training, and real access to markets. That’s not punishment; that’s building prosperity. “We’re proving that agriculture is no longer punishment but prosperity,” he said. And if you’ve seen what those youths are doing in those clusters, you’d know it’s true. They’re not just farming, they’re running agribusinesses, and they are proud of it.

In fact, what used to be hideouts for criminals in the forest are now green fields of crops. That line hit hard: “Criminal hideouts in our bushes are turning into green fields.” That’s not just a poetic statement; it’s a strategy. It’s how you reclaim your state from the claws of insecurity—by bringing life back to the land. And this reclamation is not just about farming; it’s about restoring safety and dignity to communities that had once been afraid of their own backyards.

Governor Oyebanji didn’t stop there. He took a moment to expose a very common plague in Nigerian governance—'political farmers.’ You know them: those who dress up as farmers only when there's government money to grab. But not in Ekiti anymore. He made it clear that their system now filters out these imposters through a structured cooperative model. Only real farmers are accessing interventions. “We now deal with real farmers, not ‘political farmers’ who hijack interventions.” That’s how you build trust in public policy.

The infrastructure push is another game-changer. Governor Oyebanji’s administration is leading the way on the RAAMP initiative, with 1000 kilometers of rural roads being constructed across the state. Imagine what that means for farmers in remote areas. Imagine the economic boom when those roads connect farmsteads to markets. That’s how you build an economy from the ground up—literally. “We’ve paid our dues,” he said, and indeed they have.

One example that stands out is the Ado–Iworoko–Ifaki federal road. The state government spent N20 billion fixing this crucial federal road without a single reimbursement from Abuja. N20 billion! That’s not a pocket change. That money could have been used elsewhere, but they chose to do it because, in his words, “Ekiti lives matter.” That simple sentence sums up what leadership should be about—prioritizing people above politics. But he didn’t mince words about how unjust it is for federal roads to drain state resources. And he’s right. States shouldn’t be forced to choose between saving lives and staying solvent.

Then came the airport story. Some people thought it was just another white elephant project, but he made it clear: “Our airport isn’t accidental. It’s our handshake with the world.” And now that the airport has been registered as a cargo airport, it’s clear it was a strategic move to attract federal support. But beyond that, it positions Ekiti as a logistics hub, especially for agro-allied products and tourism. That’s how you think long-term. That’s how you draw investors in, not just with talks but with infrastructure that speaks volumes.

Speaking of investment, Governor Oyebanji proudly shared that Ekiti is now a preferred destination for foreign investment. With cassava processing zones being developed and partnerships with the African Development Bank (AFDB) in place, Ekiti’s agro-industrial future is glowing with promise. That’s no small feat. Investors don’t go where there’s uncertainty; they go where there’s structure, policy clarity, and strategic vision. And clearly, they see that in Ekiti.

But what makes all of this even more inspiring is knowing the man behind the mission didn’t just walk into power unprepared. He’s a seasoned public servant. Years of experience in different capacities—SA, SSA, Chief of Staff, Commissioner (twice), Head of Transformation, Secretary to the State Government—have prepared him for this moment. He didn’t stumble into leadership. “I trained for it,” he said. And that, right there, explains why things are working in Ekiti. He didn’t come to learn on the job. He came to apply what he already knew, and it’s paying off.

Of course, in politics, there will always be critics—constructive or otherwise. But he doesn’t get distracted. His focus remains the people of Ekiti. And when you have an 80% approval rating, you know you’re doing something right. “Constructive or ignorant, I take every criticism in stride,” he said. That’s maturity. That’s leadership.

What touched many viewers the most was when he spoke about unity. “Dr. Fayemi told me: Don’t inherit my enemies.” That’s such a powerful principle. Too often, Nigerian politics is about vendettas and grudges. But here is a man who chose unity over division. He didn’t just quote Fayemi; he acted on it. He reached out to former governors, including Engr. Segun Oni and others, valuing their mentorship. Because, as he rightly said, “Development thrives when politics is not war.” If only more politicians could think like this.

Now, if all these words from Governor Oyebanji don’t resonate with you, then maybe you haven’t been watching what’s happening in Ekiti State. This is not just governance; it’s transformation. This is what it looks like when a leader leads with sense, sincerity, and structure. When a leader sees beyond his time in office and starts laying the groundwork for generations to come. And make no mistake, Ekiti is changing before our very eyes.

But the work isn’t done. The path is still long, and the transformation is still unfolding. What Governor Biodun Oyebanji has started deserves to continue—not just for continuity’s sake, but because the foundation has been rightly laid, and the vision is clear. Ekiti cannot afford to go back to square one. Not now that young people are finding dignity in agriculture, not now that roads are reaching the remotest parts of the state, not now that real farmers are finally being empowered, not now that green fields are replacing criminal hideouts, and certainly not now that the world is beginning to see Ekiti as a place of promise.

So when the time comes again for Ekiti people to choose, it should not be a hard decision. Because when someone gives you peace, progress, and purpose—you don’t send him away. You don’t gamble with your future. You hold onto him and say, “One good time deserves another.”

Governor Biodun Oyebanji has earned not just our votes, but our trust, our respect, and our heartfelt gratitude. And come that moment, we must stand with him—because he has always stood with us.

WHO’S AFRAID OF JUSTICE? A REJOINDER TO AKIN AKINSOLUGA’S CRITIQUE OF THE FUOYE VICE-CHANCELLOR.

WHO’S AFRAID OF JUSTICE? A REJOINDER TO AKIN AKINSOLUGA’S CRITIQUE OF THE FUOYE VICE-CHANCELLOR.

Akin Akinsoluga’s recent commentary on the Vice-Chancellor of FUOYE reads more like a patchwork of speculation and unfounded assertions than a serious engagement with the facts. Rather than shedding light on the realities facing the institution, his remarks reveal more about his own biases and intentions. One must ask: what motivates such a flimsy and seemingly choreographed assault on a leader who is merely defending his integrity in the face of what appears to be a politically driven smear campaign? In the end, the central question remains: who, indeed, is afraid of justice?

Akinsoluga appears to insinuate that the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abayomi Fasina, has no right to seek legal redress in defence against baseless allegations. Such a proposition is not only patently absurd but also strikes at the very heart of the principles of fairness and due process—cornerstones of any credible academic or administrative engagement. If, following thorough investigations by both the Nigerian Police and the University’s Governing Council—institutions of considerable repute—the Vice-Chancellor has been duly exonerated, then on what grounds should he be denied the right to take legal steps to protect his name and integrity? If Akinsoluga and his cohorts are truly confident in their claims, they should have no fear of judicial scrutiny or further investigation; indeed, they ought to embrace it as an avenue for truth and transparency.

It is increasingly evident that Akin and his politically aligned associates are seeking to conflate personal grievances with broader institutional concerns. The suggestion that Professor Fasina’s actions are somehow a response to a supposed “succession plan” orchestrated by clandestine political actors is a feeble attempt to divert attention from the substantive matters at stake. Engr. Kayode Ojo’s apparent discontent with Professor Fasina—rooted in a sense of political displacement—should not serve as a pretext for launching baseless assaults on the Vice-Chancellor’s character.

Moreover, it is imperative to acknowledge the gravity of allegations of impropriety and misconduct, particularly when directed at an individual who has spent years cultivating a distinguished career in service to the academic sector. To imply that Professor Fasina ought to remain mute in the face of such accusations is not only unreasonable—it is an implicit endorsement of injustice.

Furthermore, the opaque political undercurrents surrounding these allegations—particularly those linked to aspirations for professional ascendancy and financial advantage—must not be overlooked. The associations between Kayode Ojo and certain financial transactions within the University, including the award of contracts under questionable circumstances, justifiably prompt concerns regarding the true motivations behind the sustained assault on the Vice-Chancellor’s administration. Allegations of misconduct ought not to be weaponised for political expediency; instead, they must be scrutinised through the appropriate legal and institutional mechanisms.

It is equally vital to acknowledge the widespread support Professor Fasina commands from both the student body and members of staff—academic and non-academic alike. His proactive and pragmatic leadership has ensured uninterrupted academic calendars, sparing students the perennial setbacks caused by industrial actions—an accomplishment that eloquently attests to his unwavering dedication to academic excellence.

In conclusion, we must remain resolute in our commitment to truth and transparency, safeguarding our academic institutions from the corrosive influence of personal vendettas and political interference. It is incumbent upon every conscientious member of the university community to uphold a governance ethos rooted in integrity, accountability, and the pursuit of excellence—values that the Vice-Chancellor has consistently embodied.

We must not permit the murmurings of political intrigue to erode the moral fabric of our institution. Rather, we must anchor our efforts in the pursuit of justice and truth, for only through such steadfast commitment can FUOYE realise its full potential and flourish as a beacon of higher education.

BudgIT ranks Ekiti first for fiscal transparency.

BudgIT ranks Ekiti first for fiscal transparency.

The Ekiti State Government has applauded the ranking of the State as first in Nigeria, in the Q4 2024 States Fiscal Transparency League Table by BudgIT Foundation.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that BudgIT reports had recently scored Ekiti 100 out of 100 in its ratings and placed the state at the top of the fiscal transparency index in the country.

According to the foundation, the rating is based on budget approval, quarterly BIR, 2023 audited financial statements, Accountant-General’s Reports, E-Procurement Portal, and State Website Data Accessibility, among others.

Reacting in a statement on Friday in Ado-Ekiti, the Commissioner for Information, Chief Taiwo Olatunbosun, described the rating as a reflection of Gov. Biodun Oyebanji’s commitment to fiscal discipline and open governance.

He said the rating was a validation of transparency, accountability, and responsible governance under the current administration.

“This is not just a statistical victory. It’s an authentication of Governor Oyebanji’s upbringing, experience in governance, discipline, selflessness, and people-centred leadership, Ekiti people can be proud,” Olatunbosun said.

The Commissioner recalled that Ekiti was also ranked first in both Q2 and Q3 of 2024, and second in Q1, “thereby making it the only state with such consistent top-tier performance.

“In addition, Ekiti was listed as a ‘Progressive Performer’, a status awarded to only five states, and was one of just four states that attracted foreign direct investment in 2024.”

While assuring that the Oyebanji-led administration remained focused on institutional reforms and would not be distracted from its developmental mission, Olatunbosun reiterated that transparency is the cornerstone of the current administration’s governance philosophy.

”Community and stakeholder engagement constitute a major factor and strategy in formulating government policy and project implementation.

“The focus is to involve individuals, groups, and other stakeholders, actively seeking feedback, addressing concerns, and making decisions that reflect stakeholders’ interests.

“We will continue to keep citizens informed, empowered, and engaged. Trust in government starts with transparency, and this government will never lose sight of that.”

He, therefore, called for sustained support from all stakeholders and residents of Ekiti State.

The Commissioner also promised that residents would continue to experience the dividends of a compassionate, transparent, and transformational government.

EKITI TO OFFICIALLY FLAG OFF AGENCY BANKING PROGRAMME.

EKITI TO OFFICIALLY FLAG OFF AGENCY BANKING PROGRAMME.
….To Also Hold Public Private Dialogue platform engagement.

Ekiti State Government will officially flag of the Agency Banking programme on Tuesday 27th May, 2025 as part of efforts to create employment opportunities and empowerment of the people.

The State Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, Mr. Kayode Fasae who made this known during an audience participatory simulcast in the State environs tagged “Ekiti Loni/Ekiti Today”, said the State Government would also on 20th May, 2025 hold a Public Private Dialogue platform engagement to discuss actionable strategies to implement and active and robust Labour Market Information System (LMIS) for the State.

Mr. Fasae explained that 200 trained and licensed people would be engaged as “Super Sole Agents” with each of them superintending over five licensed commission agents under the Agency Banking arrangement across the State to operate the system.

Fasae added that the State Government has entered into an agreement with three banks to drive the scheme, expressing confidence that the arrangement would apart from providing job opportunities, help businesses scale to a larger level, gives people easier access to digital services, boost socio-economic activities of the people and improve the standard of living of the people.

Noting that the scheme is in tandem with both Governor Biodun Oyebanji Shared Prosperity vision and President Bola Tinubu agenda of ensuring that there is at least one financial institution in every ward in the country, the Commissioner reiterated Government’s commitment to rapid development of the State and improving the lot of the people.

Mr. Fasae said the Public Private Dialogue platform engagement was organized to strengthen public and private collaboration for an effective LMIS, identify the gaps in Labour Market data collection and utilization, enhance the use of the LMIS for organizational workforce planning and decision making, as well as to develop roadmap for LMIS implementation and sustainability.

He lamented that collaboration between the public and private stakeholders had hitherto been very limited, resulting in weak synergies and challenges in assessing impact at a holistic level, emphasizing that the ongoing efforts to develop skills and promote sustainable growth for decent employment opportunities are therefore priorities for both public and private stakeholders.

Stressing the need to establish a system that not only fosters active collaboration and synergy among key players in both sectors but also provides accurate and reliable data on the employment landscape in Ekiti State to drive effective employment and job creation initiative, Fasae assured that no stone would be left unturned towards changing the fortunes of the people for the better.

He solicited the continued support all stakeholders towards achieving the desired result.

IILG Begins Sale of CRIN Hybrid Cocoa Seedlings at Subsidised Rate.

IILG Begins Sale of CRIN Hybrid Cocoa Seedlings at Subsidised Rate.
By Asubiojo G.O

In a bold move to boost agricultural development and support the vision of Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji (BAO) on agriculture, the Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government of Ekiti State has commenced the sale of CRIN hybrid TS Cocoa seedlings at a subsidised rate of ₦500.

The initiative, driven by the Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources, is part of ongoing efforts to actualise the agricultural transformation agenda of the local government chairman, Hon. Oluwatuyi Oluwagbenga (aka Chenco), whose vision continues to yield tangible results across the council area.

According to the Director of Agriculture, Mr. Adesanya Cornelius, over the past 18 months, the department has nurtured thousands of hybrid cocoa seedlings through a cross-breeding programme. “It’s a beehive of activity here as buyers troop in large numbers to access the seedlings. We are proud to contribute significantly to the state’s agricultural value chain,” he said.

He praised the chairman’s unwavering support, describing Hon. Oluwagbenga as a pragmatic leader whose financial and moral backing has empowered the department to exceed expectations. Mr. Adesanya, alongside the Deputy Director, Mrs. Adeyinka Bukola, lauded the chairman for believing in their vision and enabling innovation through strategic investment in agriculture.

Highlighting the benefits of the hybrid cocoa variety, Adesanya noted that once processed into edibles, cocoa contributes to mood improvement, cholesterol control, weight management, and offers protection against diseases such as cancer and heart conditions, due to its rich antioxidant properties.

The Head of Local Government Administration (HLA), Mrs. D.B. Akinbobola, also expressed delight at the development. “I am truly impressed with the chairman’s commitment to agriculture. With this level of investment and innovation, Irepodun/Ifelodun LG will soon become one of the leading producers of cocoa and other agricultural resources in Ekiti State,” she remarked.

Deputy Director of Agriculture, Mrs. Adeyinka Bukola, added that the health benefits of cocoa make it a strategic crop for both economic and public health impact. “Beyond income, cocoa holds medical relevance. When properly transformed, it plays a vital role in managing cholesterol and preventing life-threatening diseases.”

Also speaking, Mr. Cosmas Gbenga described the project as “awesomely marvelous and dynamic,” applauding the foresight and collaboration among key actors within the local government.

In a brief remark, Hon. Oluwatuyi Oluwagbenga reaffirmed his commitment to building a sustainable agricultural ecosystem. “This is just the beginning. Our goal is to empower our farmers, increase local production, and enhance internally generated revenue across all tiers of government,” he stated.

The project not only aligns with the agricultural agenda of Governor Oyebanji but also positions Irepodun/Ifelodun LG as a rising hub for cocoa cultivation and agribusiness innovation in Ekiti State.

No Pharaoh Can Stop the Journey – The Divine Mandate of BAO Till 2030.

No Pharaoh Can Stop the Journey – The Divine Mandate of BAO Till 2030.

Just as Pharaoh could not stop the children of Israel from reaching their Promised Land, no force—whether media propaganda, political detractors, or WhatsApp agents of confusion—can hinder the divine journey of His Excellency, Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji (BAO), towards 2030.

This is beyond politics. It is purpose. It is prophecy in motion. It is destiny shaped by service, strengthened by performance, and sealed by the collective will of the Ekiti people.

As it was with Mordecai, whose destiny could not be thwarted by enemies, so it shall be with BAO. Every enemy of progress will fall away, while his path remains divinely guided and people-endorsed.

Isaiah 54:15–17 says:
"If anyone does attack you, it will not be my doing; whoever attacks you will surrender to you. See, it is I who created the blacksmith who fans the coals into flame and forges a weapon fit for its work. And it is I who have created the destroyer to wreak havoc; no weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and this is their vindication from me,” declares the Lord."

This scripture is the spiritual covering over BAO’s leadership. No lies, no weapons of misinformation, no coordinated attacks can stand. His legacy is not man-made — it is God-ordained and people-affirmed.

Let it be proclaimed from towns to villages, markets to motor parks, WhatsApp groups to newsrooms: BAO till 2030 is not just a political campaign. It is a covenant. A divine assignment sealed with results, humility, and unwavering loyalty to the people.

Governor BAO’s Administration Has Delivered on Key Promises. It Has Been Marked By:
●Commitment to Health Sector Improvement:
Through upgraded healthcare facilities, improved access to medical services, and enhanced welfare for health workers.

●Focus on Agricultural Development:
Empowering farmers with modern tools, training, funding, and support to boost food production and agribusiness.

●Dedication to Educational Advancement:
Renovation of schools, teacher development programs, and policies that ensure inclusive and quality education.

●Empowerment of Youth and Women:
Providing skills training, financial support, and leadership opportunities to strengthen their roles in society and the economy.

●Transparent and Inclusive Governance:
Promoting accountability, openness, and citizen engagement in all areas of government.

●Steady Economic Progress and Innovation:
Attracting investments, supporting small businesses, and encouraging innovation and digital growth for a stronger economy.

●Security and Peace Rooted in Justice:
Ensuring law and order through community-based security initiatives and fair justice systems.

●Consistency in Salary, Gratuity, and Pension Payments:
Regular and prompt payment to civil servants, pensioners, and retirees, upholding dignity and financial stability.

This is the kind of leadership Ekiti deserves — tested, trusted, and transformational.

Whom God has blessed, no man can curse.
Whom Ekiti supports, no enemy or opposition can defeat.

BAO till 2030 is a divine mandate — powered by the people, unstoppable in purpose.

Oyebanji Boosts Student Support with Higher Bursaries, Scholarships in Ekiti.

Oyebanji Boosts Student Support with Higher Bursaries, Scholarships in Ekiti.
By Olamide Akinwumi.

The administration of Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji has intensified efforts to support students of Ekiti origin through expanded bursary and scholarship awards, as part of his broader commitment to education development in the state.

Speaking during the “S’Etigbo” segment held on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, the Executive Secretary of the Ekiti State Scholarship Board, Mrs. Bukola Faluyi, and board member, Hon. Gabriel Ogundele, outlined major interventions introduced under Oyebanji’s leadership.

According to the board, the bursary award for undergraduate students has been increased from ₦10,000 to ₦20,000, while the regular scholarship amount has been raised from ₦60,000 to ₦80,000. In addition, new scholarship packages have been introduced for postgraduate students: ₦250,000 for Master’s and ₦750,000 for PhD candidates.

“These adjustments reflect the Governor’s clear focus on educational excellence and his resolve to ease the financial burden on Ekiti students,” Faluyi stated.

In a move that distinguishes Ekiti from many other states, bursary support begins from the 200-level of tertiary education, rather than being restricted to final-year students. The board also noted that brilliant secondary school leavers with exceptional WAEC or NECO results are offered full scholarships to support them through higher education.

“In 2023, we noticed that the manual bursary application process was limiting access, especially for students outside the state. With the Governor’s approval, we digitized the application process,” Ogundele explained. The digital overhaul resulted in a record-breaking 500,000 applications in the most recent cycle, indicating massive interest and accessibility.

Eligibility for the bursary is open to Ekiti indigenes in 200-level and above, with certification from their local government authorities. However, scholarships remain merit-based, requiring a minimum CGPA of 4.0 for university students and 3.0 for polytechnic or NCE students.

Additionally, each Ekiti indigene enrolled in the Nigerian Law School receives a ₦150,000 grant annually, with some beneficiaries reportedly receiving it more than once in a year. This, according to the board, highlights the administration’s special attention to professional education, particularly in the legal field.

Responding to criticisms and misinformation on social media, Faluyi described claims that the scholarship process is politicized or non-existent as “baseless and misleading.” She emphasized that the system is transparent, evidence-based, and built on fairness.

“Governor Oyebanji’s approach is results-driven. He is not just speaking about education — he is funding it, reforming it, and protecting the future of our youth,” she added.

Parents and students seeking further information are encouraged to visit the Ekiti State Government’s official website or contact the Scholarship Board directly.

She revealed that EKDIPA's visit was part of its Aftercare Advocacy Service, aimed at checking on existing investments, identifying areas for synergy, and providing support to improve the business environment.

"Money goes to where it is attracted; Investment goes to where it is attracted," she said, assuring Agbeyewa Farms that EKDIPA is available to support and facilitate ease of doing business in Ekiti State.

In his welcome remarks, the Managing Director/CEO of Agbeyewa Farms, Oska Seyi Aiyeleso, described Agbeyewa’s investment in Ekiti State as a revolution aimed at eliminating hunger and poverty through job creation and sustainable agricultural practices.

According to Aiyeleso, the company's chairman, Niyi John Olajide, has a singular focus on creating jobs, more jobs, and more jobs to liberate people from poverty and want. He further revealed that Agbeyewa Farms is working towards achieving its target of cultivating 5,000 hectares of cassava plantation by 2025, positioning itself as the No. 1 cassava farm in Africa. He said, “Agbeyewa is committed to becoming Africa's leading agro-allied enterprise, fostering sustainable agricultural investments, strengthening communities, and transforming lives.”

The MD/CEO highlighted Agbeyewa's vision for an integrated agro-processing plant, which will produce high-quality cassava derivatives such as flour, starch, and ethanol. He noted that the farm's cassava has a starch content of 27%, higher than the general 22% found in cassava elsewhere.

Aiyeleso cited the success of companies like Omnicane in Mauritius, which generates power from sugarcane, as inspiration for Agbeyewa's ambitions. He stated, "The potential is limitless, and Agbeyewa is committed to leading this transformation."

Agbeyewa Farms has received top ratings from stakeholders in the agriculture sector and has been selected by the federal government as one of the centers for the cassava revolution in Nigeria.

The company's business model revolves around cassava cultivation, aggregation, processing, and agro-trading, with a commitment to sustainable agricultural practices and community development.

The visit by the Ekiti State Development and Investment Promotion Agency (EKDIPA) to Agbeyewa Farms underscores the agency's commitment to fostering a conducive environment for investments in Ekiti State, while recognizing the farm's pivotal role in driving economic growth and development.

During the visit, the EKDIPA team, led by Director General Lolade Oke-Olutola, was given a comprehensive tour of the farm by Managing Director Oska Seyi Aiyeleso and other key management staff. The EKDIPA team was impressed by the farm's vast cassava fields and innovative mechanized systems, highlighting Agbeyewa Farms' dedication to agricultural excellence and sustainability.

Ekiti, Ondo Set Up Committees to Tackle Boundary Tussles in Flashpoint Communities.

Ekiti, Ondo Set Up Committees to Tackle Boundary Tussles in Flashpoint Communities.

In a bid to fortify the existing relationship that can withstand any threat, the Ekiti and Ondo States have set machinery in full throttle to resolve the boundary tussles in all the border towns between the two states.

This unanimous and far-reaching decision was taken during a brainstorming session held in Akure, Ondo State Capital, on Thursday, when Ekiti State Deputy Governor, Chief (Mrs) Monisade Afuye, led a delegation to her counterpart in Ondo State, Dr. Olaide Adelami

The trouble-shooting parley stemmed from the existing strain relationships and protracted boundary impasse among some towns at the border posts of the two contiguous states, and to fashion how best to tame them.

Some of the flashpoints mentioned to be experiencing persistent and harrowing land crises include: Emure Ekiti and Supare, Ugbesi Ekiti and Igasi Akoko, Ahan Ayegunle Ekiti and Oke Agbe, Imesi Ekiti and Irun Akoko, among others.

Mrs Afuye, in a statement signed by her Special Assistant on Media, Victor Ogunje, said in her message that the two states had built an enduring relationship since 1976, saying these crises won’t be allowed to fester and throw a spanner in the wheel of progress.

She emphasised the expediency of the two states mulling different peace initiatives to resolve these issues to avert violence and bloodshed at the grassroots level.

Mrs Afuye added that her principal, Governor Biodun Oyebanji, is an advocate of peace, good neighbourliness, and building of bridges with sister states to ward off insecurity and other transborder criminalities.

“Ondo and Ekiti States have come a long way. Let us imbibe the spirit of give and take in resolving some of these issues. We have been agitating for a long time that we should meet, so that we can resolve some of the crises at hand. We want to thank the people of Ondo State for embracing this peace mission.

There is nothing to gain in fighting or killing ourselves. We should talk to each other and resolve our differences rather than allowing bloodshed. Wherever there is a boundary dispute, there is always a loss of lives and property. We have to prevent this”, she stated.

Restating that the relationship between the two states remains invincible, the Ondo State Deputy Governor, Dr. Olaide Adelami, applauded the Ekiti State Government for the peace initiative and for believing in their abilities to resolve some of the boundary impasses.

Dr Adelami pledged full cooperation of Ondo State with Ekiti in resolving these challenges, saying the bond of unity between the two states remains unbroken.

“I want to appreciate the Ekiti State Deputy Governor for this initiative. With this meeting, our people will know that we are talking and ready to synergise to resolve whatever differences we have regarding boundary disputes.

“The technical committees of the two states will meet and look for ways to demarcate some of these areas where we have issues. Settling land disputes has been a continuous effort. In 2023, the NBC came to Ondo State to resolve some issues, and what we agreed on was that the tripartite points between states should be established.

We are brothers and sisters before the creation of Ekiti State, but I believe our demarcation was just a mere artificial demarcation. In culture and traditions, we are the same and inseparable.

“After this meeting, we know that peace is on the way. And our steps will send a signal to all the affected communities that peace is on the way. Talking to each other and forging collaboration is the best way to go, we have to collaborate for us to settle some of these issues amicably”.

At the parley, the technical committee of each state was mandated to speak with the affected towns on the need to embrace peace before the final meeting of the experts that will midwife the final peace process.

Experts and members of the Boundary Technical Committee that attended the parley are: Permanent Secretary, Ekiti State Deputy Governor’s Office, Mr Abayomi Opeyemi, his counterpart in Ondo State, Mr, Idowu Ojo, Ondo State Surveyor General, Surveyor Idowu Owolabi, Surveyor General of Ekiti State, Surveyor Adebayo Faleto, Deputy Chief of Staff to Ekiti State Deputy Governor, Mr. Victor Adeniyi, Executive Secretary, Ekiti State Boundary Commission, Surveyor Olalekan Olajide, his colleague in Ondo State, Surveyor Francis Daramola, among others.

BAO 2030: A Divine Mandate and a People’s Choice.

As the winds of political change blow through Nigeria, one name continues to resonate with the voice of the people in Ekiti State — Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji (BAO). In a time where leadership is often judged by action, impact, and integrity, Governor Oyebanji stands tall as a beacon of responsive and inclusive governance.

A divine prophecy backed by performance is in motion: Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji will be the first aspirant in Ekiti State to win the governorship seat for two consecutive terms, making history with eight impactful years of transformational leadership. IILG Clears 60-Year-Old Refuse Heap in Igede, Residents Rejoice.

IILG Clears 60-Year-Old Refuse Heap in Igede, Residents Rejoice.
By Asubiojo G.O.

The Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government (IILG) has commenced the long-awaited evacuation of a refuse heap that stood at Odo Igede for over six decades, in a move described as both historic and health-saving by residents and officials alike.

According to the family hosting the dump, the refuse pile has remained in the community for more than 60 years. The evacuation exercise, now in its second day, has seen two Mark trucks deployed since Wednesday. So far, 16 full loads of refuse have been carted away, yet less than one-third of the job has been completed.

“This evacuation has been on my desk since April last year. I thank God for the eventual execution,” said Mrs. Kehinde Akode, Director of the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) department, who spearheaded the clearing initiative. “It’s a call to action. Communities facing similar environmental hazards should send a Bill of Quantity to the Chairman for immediate attention,” she added.

The health and environmental implications of the long-standing refuse heap had long been a source of concern. Local chiefs and residents of Odo Igede say the site posed a serious threat to public health, with frequent outbreaks of malaria and waterborne diseases, foul odour, and blocked water channels.

“It has been a nightmare,” said Chief Joseph Ajayi, a community elder. “Our children fall sick often. We thank the council and the state government for finally coming to our aid.”

In his reaction, the Chairman of Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government, Hon. Oluwatuyi Oluwagbenga, lauded the commitment of his administration and the collaborative efforts of Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji’s government.

“This is a testament to our resolve to prioritize the health and wellbeing of our people. The governor has made the environment a major focus, and we’re doing our part at the grassroots,” the chairman said.

Hon. Oluwagbenga, whose administration has recorded significant achievements across sectors, has been particularly lauded for his strides in agriculture—planting yams and maize, and establishing a sustainable livestock initiative with pigs and poultry. His focus on food security has created employment and boosted local productivity.

Beyond agriculture, the Chairman has overseen the installation and repair of boreholes across the LG, ensuring access to clean water for both urban and rural residents. Under his leadership, the well-being of local government workers and citizens has remained a top priority, with steady improvements in welfare, infrastructure, and service delivery.

Security in the local government has also received a facelift under his watch. Renovation of the police post and the customary court in Igede-Ekiti has uplifted law enforcement morale and reinforced community trust. His efforts have contributed to the maintenance of absolute peace and coexistence across the local government area.

Mrs. Akinbobola Deborah-B, the newly appointed Head of Local Administration (HLA), described the refuse evacuation as “a glorious feat” and a demonstration of synergy between departments and the administration’s renewed focus on environmental rehabilitation.

Also commenting, Mrs. Olanrewaju, Director of the Environmental Department, expressed satisfaction at the pace and scale of the exercise. “We are not only clearing waste; we are restoring dignity and cleanliness to the community.”

Mr. G.O. Asubiojo, Director of Information and Civil Orientation, emphasized the importance of community involvement. “This should be a wake-up call for all communities. Environmental sanitation is everyone’s responsibility.”

Residents of Odo Igede are optimistic that the clearing exercise will usher in a new era of better health, sanitation, and community development. Many expressed hopes that the site, once cleared, would be transformed into a recreational or public-use space.

“This is just the beginning,” said Mrs. Akode. “We will not stop until our local government is clean and safe for all.”

In the case of the Executive Chairman of Ajoni Local Council Development Area, Amb, Prince Michael Ogungbemi fcpa, he believes in the philosophy of the former highly charismatic Prime Minister of Britain, Winston Churchill, who once said: “an optimist sees opportunity in every difficulty, while a pessimist sees difficulty in every opportunity”.

2026: Between Oyebanji’s Unstoppable March and Opposition’s Needless Bile.

2026: Between Oyebanji’s Unstoppable March and Opposition’s Needless Bile.

Most troubling crisis now brewing in Ekiti State, is the desperation of the opposition to turn the state into a rumour mill. This situation didn’t surge, because Governor Biodun Oyebanji was not offering the right leadership, but for some pugnacious opposition figures, who were skewing facts and churning out lies, in a dangerous bid to scuttle the governor’s reelection in 2026.

In a succinct fashion, the forthcoming poll has provided a propitious ground for opponents to embark on a voyage of unwarranted attacks, knowing full well that they are not on ground. They are pummeled and bogged down by burdens of inabilities to challenge Governor Oyebanji in a popularity contest. They knew this will be herculean. It was an actuality that they can’t match up the electrifying mass appeal being savoured by the governor due to his uncanny proclivity for good performance and delivery.

The weak and depleted opposition, perceived defeat staring them in the face. It was lucid to them that they are going to face scandalous trouncing. This has forced them to start pulling a dangerous string on social media, where they only exist, to derail the governor. However, all their efforts have been futile, like the proverbial “venom of a viper that does nothing to the shell of a tortoise”.

Looking at the Ekiti’s political landscape with wider optics, it is obvious that the opposition sparsely exists. If one surveys across all the 177 wards and 2,195 statutory units, Governor Oyebanji’s acceptability spirals on daily basis like a raging fire in the harmattan. His opponents only exist on social media, roaring like a wounded lion looking for whom to devour. Their lies were cunningly woven around government’s projects. They spewed out bogus figures about government’s spendings to blight the integrity of the government and plummet his soaring popularity.

They began their devilish actions, by branding the now functional and effective Ekiti State Agro allied International Airport as a conduit pipe to pillage the state’s resources. They painted a lugubrious picture that the facility can never be functional, but they got utterly disappointed. The airport was not only effective in operations, efforts are underway to begin 24-hour operation.

There wasn’t any straw, no matter how feeble these self- appointed critics haven’t clutched onto to lash out at the governor. At a time they said he was spending humongous amount of money to curry the favours of former Governors Niyi Adebayo, Segun Oni, Ayo Fayose and Kayode Fayemi. All they wanted to do was to decline crediting the governor for possessing the political wizardry and legendary magnetic force to manage all political tendencies and keep the right people in his fold.

It is not an overstatement to aver that the opposition has never been this debased and emasculated in Ekiti political history. The most visible of them: the People’s Democratic Party, is the worst hit. The party is so ripped that its centre can no longer hold. Many of its members are now contemplating joining the proposed coalition party in Social Democratic Party. Ordinary ward Congress, the party couldn’t conduct successfully and they are boasting that they will thwart Oyebanji’s reelection. What a delusion of grandeur!

Rather than rally their members and concentrate on mobilisation across the units and wards, they now perceive social media stunts as a strength. They lie everyday with impunity and reckless abandon. The few enemies within the All Progressives Congress’ fold, are also coalescing with them to undo a governor that has the masses as his fortress and nudging spirit.

The opposition combed and rummaged every corner and became confounded with the high level of integrity and ethical standards the governor has upheld. They have realised that nothing incriminating can be traced to him, except they lie to gain some lifeline. These shenanigans have refused to gain tractions.

One of the critics’ show of shame, was the accusation of neglect and non-performance leveled against the governor over the decrepit state of Aramoko-Erio-Itawure road that is laden with potholes and craters. They have forgotten that Ekiti State expended over N15 billion on the construction of the Ado-Iworoko- Ifaki dual carriage federal road that won’t be refunded to the coffers of the state. With the lean resources accruing to Ekiti, it would be callous for anyone to think in his wildest imagination that Ekiti should continue to fix federal roads when the federal government has been explicit that no refund will be made for such expenditure.

Few days after the contract award of the Ado Ekiti second flyover, there was a swirling rumour that the project was contracted to former Ekiti governors as a way of pocketing them. What a shabby and lowly way of criticism. Ideally, criticism should be at the level of intellectualism, and not as pedestrian as these people have become. Records are there that the former governors have no connections with this project. These are verifiable facts.

However, the governor has not relented in his reflexive knack to manage situations . As a great leader that he is, he has been applying three- pronged approach to put his enemies at bay. He operates an open door policy. The costs of all projects being undertaken in Ekiti are made available on the state’s website. No hidden agenda, because of the governor’s strong financial discipline and spartan nature.

Two, he has assured those self- appointed enemies within his party that he is ready for primary. Though, he is entitled to a right of first refusal, but he assured of his disposition to face anyone in the primary and make the process democratic. Three, he is fulfilling his electioneering promises to the workers, artisans, women, children, drivers, motorcycle riders and all the strata of the society.

To demonstrate this, Oyebanji was one of the few governors to implement the N70,000 Minimum Wage across board immediately it was signed into law by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Even the political office holders enjoyed this dividend being the first in the history of the state. Today, payment of salaries, pension and gratuity, is now a right, and not a privilege. Workers and retirees don’t need to grovel before having their pays. As at the last count, over 4,000 teachers, civil servants and local government staff have been employed into the state civil service, while a total of 20,000 have been empowered in the non-public sector, including farming, where over 1,000 youth are now making profitable exploits.

The governor’s midas touch has also reached critical economic sectors like education , where he has built a modern school in Ikere Ekiti to widen access to educational institution by children of school age. The airport facility is now breaking barriers and exposing Ekiti to better opportunities at local, national and international levels. Several inter and intra state roads are under construction, while many towns are being reconnected back to the national grid to spur the local economy and bring a slump to the poverty index.

The multi billion sports complex, the International Cultural Centre, the Ekiti State MSMEs Clinic and garment hub called Adire Ekiti Hub, are areas being used to add panache to Ekiti’s growth rate. The issue of security is also being given priority, with adequate funding of the paramilitary agencies like the Amotekun Corps, Peace Corps and Ekiti Agro Marshall Corps. Gone were the days when cross border bandits were terrorizing the state. They had now been put at check permanently.

Little wonder, all the strata of the society: the statesmen and political leaders, media, labour leaders, traditional rulers and other pivotal population have endorsed Oyebanji for a second term. This endorsements were a novelty in the history of the state. Some past governors struggled to get second term. With the political matrixes playing out in Ekiti today, the governor may likely get his reelection ticket on a platter of gold. He even has a brighter chance to win in a landslide fashion in the main poll.

At different fora in Ekiti State, former governors Kayode Fayemi, Niyi Adebayo, Segun Oni and Ayo Fayose, had overtly endorsed Governor Oyebanji for second term. Ayo Fayose and Segun Oni, who are of the PDP and SDP extractions, had consistently made their feelings known that the current government has performed creditably well and deserve being returned. The former governors did this with open hearts. They damned the consequences to stand with the truth.

As of today, more than five respectable Media houses, had garlanded Governor Oyebanji with honours. They included: Vanguard Newspapers, Telegraph Newspapers, Daily Independent Newspapers, Energy Times and Silverbird Television. These colourful awards were considered based on merit and not by purchasing power. If it was through buying and selling, Ekiti might be the last to have them. They were majorly based on merit and public perception. The judgements of the media houses about Governor Oyebanji couldn’t have been totally wrong.

The leadership of the trade unions in Ekiti State, had also found Governor Oyebanji worthy in character and performance rating. The Chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress, Com Kola Olatunde, had at a recent parley with the Deputy Governor, Chief Monisade Afuye, described Oyebanji as a leader, who places high premium on the payment of workers’ salary, pension and gratuity, thereby reducing poverty in their ranks. Com. Olatunde, eulogised Governor Oyebanji for not betraying the confidence reposed by workers and Ekiti populace in his leadership. He averred that the government, had succeeded in gaining the trust of his colleagues through prompt payment of all benefits due to them and abated the culture of mutual distrust in the system.

“The entire workforce of Ekiti State is pleased with the leadership being offered by a governor Oyebanji. He has been able to foster confidence in the system by fulfilling some of the promises and pacts he had made with us. We are indeed proud of his leadership.

“I am not saying he has done everything , but he has been able to substantially address some of the issues like payment of gratuity, payment of deductions and some other allowances. This is a great hallmark of leadership and we are pleased with him”, Olatunde stated.

Even the respectable and highly apolitical traditional rulers were not left out in the endorsements spree being savoured by the governor. The Ekiti State Traditional Rulers, under the auspices of Majority Obas of Ekiti Land (MOBEL), recently predicted a landslide victory for the Governor in his reelection bid in 2026. The monarchs predicated their prediction on the level of peace, development, stability, and mutual respect being accorded Ekiti people, including all the monarchs by the Governor, saying these have endeared the government to the populace and critical stakeholders.

The new leadership of MOBEL, led by its Chairman and Ojurin of Ijurin Ekiti, Oba Afolabi Joachim Ajibola, gave this sound verdict . The monarchs promised that MOBEL, comprising grades A, B and C hierarchical monarchs, would coalesce actions with government to instil peace and stability in all the towns.

“We are grateful to Governor Oyebanji for prioritising our welfare and for his love, respect and humility to the traditional rulers. I must say that we have been having governments in Ekiti, but this government is different and special. We are assuring you that the second term of His Excellency, Biodun Oyebanji is sure. Even after you leave office, Ekiti will continue to respect you”, he stated.

The rapport between Governor Oyebanji and the National Assembly members has been robust, if not invincible. In support of Governor Oyebanji’s significant investment in the welfare of children with disabilities, the Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, recently donated two mini-buses, two motorcycles, and 25 wheelchairs to the Therapy Centre for Children with Disabilities in Ado-Ekiti. The Senator expressed satisfaction with the cordial relationship between Governor Oyebanji and members of the Ekiti State caucus of the National Assembly. Senator Bamidele assured the Governor that caucus members would continue to support his people-oriented programmes and policies aimed at improving the living standards of Ekiti people.

He praised Governor Oyebanji’s commitment to the welfare of children with disabilities, noting that the therapy centre is the first state-owned facility of its kind in the country. He promised to facilitate the construction of a bigger therapy centre as part of his constituency project next year.

“Let me begin by thanking His Excellency, our Governor, for bringing me here to see what’s happening. I also want to thank the state government for conceptualizing this initiative. I extend my gratitude to the workers, the volunteer parents, the professionals, and all the interveners here. I am glad to be here, and I believe we need to attract all the encouragement we can from the Federal Government.

“The Governor has made a specific request. I always describe our relationship as a partnership that is working for the people of our state. By the grace of God, I will prioritize this as my number one constituency project for 2026. From my budget of N1.5 billion for construction, I will take it on, and by God’s grace, we will commence work here next year. In the meantime, let us see how we can maintain the current facilities and explore corporate social responsibility interventions until the new building is ready.”

Periscoping all the parameters to winning elections, Oyebanji stands on a vantage cliff. He gains velocity on daily basis, in terms of popularity and acceptability. The opposition should be intuitive that their diatribes and social media hoopla have only been a launching pad , rather than demobilisation weapons to the governor. The sooner they realise their folly, the better.

Victor Ogunje, is special Assistant on Media to Ekiti State Deputy Governor
