In 2021, an ambitious initiative took root under the visionary leadership of former Governor H.E. Dr. Kayode Fayemi, and Governor Biodun Oyebanji steered it to completion.

On November 2, 2023, the Ekiti Independent Power Project (IPP), a 5-Megawatt endeavor, began test-running operations, marking a significant leap towards uninterrupted power supply across vital public facilities in Ado-Ekiti.

Under Governor Oyebanji's leadership, the IPP addresses electricity shortages, propelling Ekiti towards energy independence and boosting energy availability by 2MW.

These vital public facilities benefiting from the project include the Government House complex, Governor’s Office, State Secretariat complex I & II, Ekiti State House of Assembly Complex, Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH), Ekiti State University, and street lights on major roads.

From 10 am on Monday, November 20, 2023, Ekiti IPP Limited commenced 24-hour operations. Both CNG generators, with capacities of 1.50MW and 1.125MW, now run in synchronization, while a 1.25MW diesel generator remains on standby.

The operationalization of the IPP marks a transformative milestone for Ekiti, symbolizing progress towards sustained and reliable power supply for the community.
