Ekiti Govt Launches Atikankan Slum Redevelopment as Marking and Enumeration of acquired Structures Commences.
Following a recent move by the Ekiti State Government to give the notorious Atikankan area of Ado Ekiti a facelift, the state government has initiated the marking and Enumeration phase for the redevelopment project.
This is coming after extensive consultations and agreements with concerned stakeholders in the area, underlining the government's commitment to improving living conditions and ensuring the safety of residents.
Recall that in a recent stakeholders' engagement and advocacy tour, Hon. Oladapo Karounwi, the Honorable Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, highlighted the urgent need for a transformation in the area owing to its high-crime rate.
Karounwi emphasized the multifaceted benefits of the redevelopment initiative, aimed at tackling environmental pollution, enhancing safety, reducing unnecessary congestion, and elevating the overall aesthetic appeal of both the district and the State capital.
“The government is gearing up for the imminent demolition of the acquired structures in the area, which would be preceded by fair compensation to affected property owners”.
“Residents are earnestly encouraged to collaborate with the state government, recognizing that this initiative is poised to bring collective advantages to the community at large”, Karounwi said .
