Over 400 newly admitted students of Venite University, Iloro Ekiti, were formally admitted into the institution during its third matriculation ceremony for the 2026 academic session.

The ceremony, held on Thursday at the university’s main campus in Iloro Ekiti, brought together members of the Governing Council, management staff, parents, guardians, and well-wishers who gathered to witness the induction of the fresh students into the academic community.

Speaking at the event, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Charity Aremu, urged the students to remain focused on their academic pursuits and avoid activities capable of tarnishing the institution’s image, particularly cultism and other social vices.

Aremu also highlighted the progress recorded by the university within a short period, noting that the institution was committed to attaining global recognition through quality teaching, innovation, and character development.

“Our main goal at Venite University is to attain global recognition within the shortest possible time. We are training individuals who will create jobs rather than become job seekers after graduation,” she said.

The event also featured the investiture of Aremu as the second substantive Vice-Chancellor of the institution.

Administering the matriculation oath, the Pro-Chancellor, Professor Olabisi Aina, advised the students to uphold discipline in both character and learning in order to achieve academic excellence.

He assured them that the institution had provided a conducive learning environment supported by experienced lecturers, urging them to take full advantage of the opportunities available to prepare themselves for leadership and professional success.

“I urge you to remain focused on your academic pursuits and take advantage of the university’s learning environment and opportunities designed to prepare you for leadership and professional success,” he said.

The matriculating students subsequently took the oath of allegiance, pledging to abide by the university’s rules and regulations while upholding the values of discipline, integrity, and academic excellence.

Following her formal decoration by the Pro-Chancellor, the Vice-Chancellor reiterated the university’s commitment to providing high-quality education, promoting innovative research, and building strong moral character in students.

She added that the institution remained dedicated to producing future leaders capable of making meaningful contributions to national development.

In celebration of International Women’s Month, Agbeyewa Farms has adopted Covenant Nursery & Primary School in Ipao-Ekiti, sponsoring the school fees of top-performing pupils across various classes. The initiative, inspired and implemented by the Agbeyewa Queens – a forum of female staff within the organization , and in collaboration with the Directorate of Community Engagement -reflects Agbeyewa’s commitment to supporting education in its host communities and contributing to the global Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4 on Quality Education.

The outreach was led by the Vice President, Operations (VPO), Anthonia Attoh, who noted that the initiative aligns with Agbeyewa’s broader commitment to community development and youth empowerment. She explained that the program was conceived by the Agbeyewa Queens as part of activities marking International Women’s Month, with the aim of making a meaningful difference in the lives of children within the community where the company operates. According to her, the sponsorship of outstanding pupils demonstrates how corporate and employee-driven initiatives can create lasting impact in local communities.

VPO Attoh further explained that the outreach was inspired by the theme of this year’s International Women’s Day, “Give to Gain,” emphasizing that the women of Agbeyewa chose to translate the theme into practical action by investing in the future of young children. By supporting the education of exceptional pupils for the academic year, she said Agbeyewa is not only rewarding academic excellence but also helping reduce barriers that may hinder access to quality education.

Also speaking at the event, the Director of Community Engagement at Agbeyewa Farms, Alhaji Dauda Lawal, commended the initiative and reaffirmed the company’s commitment to fostering sustainable development within its host communities. He described the outreach as a reflection of Agbeyewa’s people-centered approach to community engagement, noting that investing in education remains one of the most effective ways to build stronger and more prosperous communities.

The proprietress of Covenant Nursery & Primary School, Mrs. Fayomi Janet Motunrayo, expressed deep appreciation for the gesture, describing it as both generous and impactful. She noted that the school, which began on September 16, 2016 with just 15 pupils and two teachers, has grown to about 187 pupils and 13 teachers. 

According to her, the intervention will greatly benefit the pupils and their families while encouraging the children to remain committed to their education.

Dr Kayode Fayemi, former Governor of Ekiti State and the immediate-past Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF), has congratulated former President Olusegun Obasanjo on his 89th birthday, describing him as one of Nigeria’s most consequential statesmen whose service to the nation will never be forgotten.

In a statement on Thursday, Fayemi paid tribute to Obasanjo’s decades of dedication to Nigeria’s unity and advancement of democracy in Africa.

According to the former Ekiti governor, Obasanjo’s leadership at critical moments in Nigeria’s history, including his stewardship of the country as Head of State and later as a democratically elected President, helped shape the nation’s political and institutional trajectory.

“Chief Obasanjo remains a towering figure in Nigeria’s public life and a statesman whose commitment to the unity, stability and progress of our country has been steadfast over the years”, Fayemi stated.

He noted that Obasanjo’s contributions extend beyond Nigeria, citing his consistent advocacy for peace, democratic values, and development across the African continent.

Fayemi said the former President’s courage, forthrightness and willingness to speak truth to power have continued to enrich national discourse and strengthen democratic culture in Nigeria.

“As he marks his 89th birthday, I join family members, friends, associates and countless admirers across Nigeria and the world in celebrating a life devoted to service. 

‘’We remain grateful for his sacrifices and his continuing role as a mentor to many within and outside public life,” he added.

Fayemi prayed for God’s continued blessings upon the elder statesman, wishing him many more years in good health, wisdom and strength in service to Nigeria and humanity.

The campaign for the re-election of Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji (BAO) gained significant momentum today, Thursday, March 5, 2026, with the official inauguration of the Community Outreach Team for BAO (2026). The inauguration ceremony took place during a strategic meeting between the team, led by Erelu Tosin Aluko Ajisafe, and the Special Adviser on Political Matters to the Governor, Chief Jide Awe.

In her opening address, Erelu Tosin Aluko Ajisafe expressed deep gratitude to Governor Oyebanji for his unwavering support of the outreach team’s initiatives during previous election cycles. She specifically lauded Chief Jide Awe, describing his guidance as "fatherly and exceptional" throughout their past field operations. While presenting the newly structured 2026 campaign team, Erelu Ajisafe reaffirmed the group's dedication to grassroots mobilization and their readiness to hit the ground running.

Responding to the delegation, Chief Jide Awe commended the team’s track record, noting that their previous efforts were instrumental to the administration's success. However, he challenged the members to elevate their performance for the upcoming contest, stating that the task ahead requires even stronger commitment and selflessness to ensure a landslide victory for Governor Oyebanji’s second-term bid.

Chief Awe officially inaugurated the team, reiterating the party’s unflinching support to ensure effective and efficient service delivery.

The Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, on Thursday, installed the new Obanla of Ijesa- Isu, Ikole Local Government Area, Oba David Oluwasegun Ateji, with a charge to traditional rulers to entrench the culture of justice, fairness and equitable leadership at the grassroots, for sustainable peace and unity. 

Oyebanji described the throne of Obanla as sacred, and deeply rooted in history, sustained by the collective will of the people, saying the enthronement further corroborated  that patience and respect for due process always yield honourable outcomes.

Oba Ateji, the first monarch that emerged from Omotoyo Royal Dynasty, is to succeed the late Oba Gabriel Oso Adeniyi from Akoko Ruling House, who joined his ancestors on 23rd September, 2024.

Speaking at the epochal event held at Ijesa- Isu Ekiti, the governor, represented by his Deputy, Chief (Mrs) Monisade Afuye, was enthralled with the emergence of Oba Ateji, saying his appointment elevated the concept of inclusion, fairness, and the healing of age-long historical imbalances in the town's monarchical trajectory. 

He said his administration firmly believes  in leadership that is just and respectful of institutions, stating that respect for monarchy reflects the understanding that peace can only be realised when our cultural heritage is protected. 

"Your Royal Highness, as you assume this exalted role, it is important to note that this office is not only a position of honour but also one of responsibility. The people will look up to you for guidance, peace, justice, and unity.

"The Government also expects your partnership in the collective effort to maintain order, promote cultural heritage, and support the development of our state. Our traditional rulers remain critical partners in governance. They serve as custodians of our customs and values, mediators in times of conflict, and mobilizers for grassroots development.

"We place great premium on the role of our royal fathers in sustaining peace and fostering development across our towns and villages. We recognize that sustainable development is best achieved when Government and traditional Institutions work hand in hand. 

"We urge Your Royal Majesty to be a father to all, irrespective of political affiliation, religion, or social status. Promote peace, encourage communal harmony, and support Government initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of our people. Your throne must be a symbol of justice, fairness, and inclusiveness".

Appealing for strong and invincible unity in the community, Oyebanji averred that the strength of any town lies in its togetherness, encouraging all indigenes, both at home and in the diaspora, to rally round the new monarch and support him with loyalty, cooperation, and constructive engagement.

The commissioner for Chieftaincy and Home Affairs, Hon. Olaiya Ojo Atibioke, said the installation of the monarch was in firm alignment with  the Ekiti State Chiefs Law and the Governor Oyebanji's philosophy anchored on justice and fairplay..

Atibioke said the process culminating in the selection of Oba Ateji, was unanimous and bereft of arm twisting, interference and imposition, revealing that Governor Oyebanji has strong aversion for disrespect for  traditional institution. 

In his acceptance speech, the highly ecstatic Oba Ateji, promised to unite the kingdom and be  fair to all his subjects.

The monarch urged other contestants  to forget about the fierce battle that dogged the selection process and  close ranks to fasttrack development and ward off bitterness among the people. 

Oba Ateji said his cardinal focus is to transform Ijesa Isu to a model and  epicentre  of development in the  state, by working with other  critical stakeholders, assuring that era of communal frictions, crisis and enmity was over in the town. 

The monarch applauded Governor Oyebanji for his respect  for  traditional institution, which he said  vividly manifested in his ascension to the throne. 

"I want to assure you that I am not here as a ruler, but as a custodian of customs and traditions of my people. I have no enemy to fight. Let us unite and make this town great".

Former Ekiti State Deputy Governor  and  prominent son of the town, Chief Paul Alabi, applauded Governor Oyebanji for midwifing a selection process devoid of violence, assuring that the community shall vote massively for the All Progressives Congress in the coming governorship poll.

The former Deputy Governor,  appealed to the kingmakers and  all the sons and daughters of the community to stand by the new monarch to bring unprecedented development to the community during his reign. 

The new Obanla, an Engineer by profession, is from Omotoyo Ruling House.  He worked in the Federal Ministry of Trade, Industry and Investment  and retired in 2024, after 35 years of meritorious service.
