Ekiti NSCDC Parades Five Suspects For Illegal Drug Dealings, Cultism And Fraud.


Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Ekiti State Command along Ado Ikere Road Ekiti State today paraded five suspects in connection with illicit drug circulations into campuses in the State, cultism and a fake estate agent who has been milking desperate tenants in the State capital, Ado Ekiti.


In a statement provided to journalists by the state CD public relations officer, Sup Afolabi Tolulope, parading the suspects, Commandant Agboola Adisa Sunday explained that one Ayomide Iyanu, 25 years old, was apprehended along Nova Road in Adebayo. Operatives of the Counter Terrorism Unit traced him from a university environment in the state to the area where he was eventually arrested. He was found in possession of substances suspected to be cannabis sativa and other illicit drugs.




The commandant who explained further that Ayomide who is an illicit drug dealer in the State capital was arrested following an intelligence information from our campuses in the State that, some unscrupulous elements are always visiting our campuses to distribute illicit  drugs to the student there by aiding cult-related activities in the schools, opined that drugs and criminal tendencies are siamese twins, if one is curbed, the other may be inactive.

Also one Falodun Abiodun Ebenezer was arrested in the State capital after series of complaints against him that he has going around and  parading himself as an estate agent, using fictitious names to dupe his  clients in which preliminary investigation showed that, he has successfully duped over 15  clients amounting to over two million naira.

In another development, Biodun Tosin. 22 years of Onala Street Ado Ekiti, Osas Abdulahi 32 years of Bawa Estate and Daniel Uche 28 of Adebayo Street all in Ado Ekiti were arrested following a distressed call received from one Echewija Matthew 23 years along Ayemi Garage Ado Ekiti after some cult members wreck havoc on the victim with dangerous weapon that nearly took his life.

The Command's Counter Terrorism Unit arrested three persons in connection with the dastard act while effort are in top gear to apprehend others.

The victim, whose Bajaj motorbike with registration number JER 245 Ekiti was taken away by the cult members also lost other items including a huge some of money. 

Mr Agboola who was critical about eradicating  cultism in our campuses and towns in state challenged parents to study their wards and take note of any new behaviours exhibited by them so that rehabilitation can be done on time before damaging our future leaders ,also urged the general public to make available information and facts that can assist in sanitizing our environment from criminal elements as well as their enablers.

He added that actions will be expedite on them after finalizing preliminary investigations from Counter Terrorism Unit of the command so that the  next action of presenting them before the law of the land will be seamless.

The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has congratulated Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji on the recent transfer of the electricity regulatory oversight by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) to the Ekiti State Electricity Regulatory Bureau.

The NGF, in a congratulatory letter signed by its Director General, Asishana Okauru, said the transfer was a major achievement and “significant milestone” in the tenure of the Biodun Oyebanji-led administration in Ekiti State.

Hailing Governor Oyebanji for his “dedication, hard work and unwavering commitment to the service of Ekiti State” the NGF said it is proud of the Governor who has undoubtedly made positive and immeasurable impact on the lives of the people of the State.  

While commending the cognate Government staff  for their untiring commitment to duty, the Forum reiterated its joy that Governor Oyebanji has penchant for appointing the right people into positions; adding that the Governor’s choice of personnel is a testament to his visionary governance.

“On behalf of the Nigeria Governor’s Forum secretariat (NGFS), we congratulate you on the signing of the Order of Transfer of Regulatory Oversight of the Electricity Market in Ekiti State. This is a significant milestone in your term as Governor of Ekiti State. It is also a worthy achievement in the life of the new Electricity Act 2023.”

“Your dedication, hard work and unwavering commitment to the service of the people of Ekiti State undoubtedly led to this momentous achievement. The positive impact you have had on the lives of the citizens of Ekiti State is immeasurable and something to be proud of.  Your tireless efforts have brought about positive changes and advancements that will benefit future generations”, Okauru said.

It is recalled that the Biodun Oyebanji Administration has made  considerable investment in the power sector in the bid to fix power infrastructure in the state and boost economic activities in line with its shared prosperity agenda.

These include the establishment of the 5-Megawatt Independent Power Project, which is currently providing uninterrupted power supply to Government Offices at the state Secretariat,  major institutions including the teaching Hospital complex, as well as the  powering of some street lights. The Administration has also rehabilitated and connected the towns of  Erijiyan and Ikogosi as well as  Ikogosi Resorts back to the National Grid to enhance the State tourism corridor.

Other achievements of the Administration include rehabilitation and connection of Ipole lloro-Ekiti back to the National Grid, rehabilitation and reconnection of ljan, Iluomoba, Aisegba, Agbado, Imesi, Ode, Isinbode, Egbe, Iro-Ayeteju and Omuo up to Ilasa in Ayekire/Gbonyin and Ekiti East/South-East LGAs and LCDAs back to the National Grid as well as the extension of 33KV network from 132KV Omisanjana transmission substation to Baptist High School and the connection of Ilawe Dedicated 33KV feeder line with Erijiyan-Ekiti.

The Administration also installed 500kVA 33/0.415 relief transformer at Ikogosi, and is extending electricity from Aramoko to Ijero,  Eruku, Kwara State to the agricultural zone in lyemero, and from Iluomoba to Ikole. Several other initiatives are in the offing, including a federal TCN 132KV connection between Ikere, Ijesa-Isu and Ilupeju.

The Nigerian Youth Congress, Ekiti State Chapter, has vehemently condemned the tragic killing of Iyanda Damilola, a corps member serving in Oyo State, by an officer of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS). The incident, which occurred during a fracas at a nightclub in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, has sparked outrage and calls for justice across the nation.




In a statement released to the press, Aare Adedara Temitope Moses, the Chairman of the Movement, expressed deep sorrow and dismay over the senseless loss of Damilola's life. Describing the incident as "sardonic" and heartbreaking, he recounted the harrowing events that led to Damilola's tragic demise.



According to reports from the Oyo State Police Command, the fatal altercation took place during a disturbance at a nightclub in the "Under G" area of Owode Ogbomoso. As tensions escalated, police officers responded to a distress call indicating a fight in progress. In the ensuing chaos, shots were fired by the officers, resulting in the tragic death of Damilola and the injury of his brother, Iyanda Femi Isreal.




The Ekiti State Chapter of the Nigerian Youth Congress demands swift and transparent action from the authorities to ensure that justice is served for Damilola's killing. It is imperative that a thorough investigation be conducted to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident and hold those responsible fully accountable for their actions.

In response to the outcry from concerned citizens, the Oyo State Police Commissioner, CP Adebola Hamzat, has ordered that the case be handled by the Homicide Department of the State Criminal Investigation Department. Additionally, all officers involved in the incident, including Inspector Rasheed Saheed, have been detained pending further investigation.

The Ekiti State Chapter of the Nigerian Youth Congress calls for a fair and impartial inquiry into Damilola's death, with the aim of delivering justice for him and his grieving family. Damilola's tragic and untimely demise serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for accountability and reform within law enforcement agencies to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.

As we mourn the loss of a promising young life, let us stand united in demanding justice and ensuring that Damilola's memory is honored through concrete actions to address the systemic issues that contributed to this tragedy.

The Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, yesterday enthroned the new Onirele of Irele Ekiti, Oba David Andero, calling on the traditional institution to coalesce efforts with his government to wage virulent wars against kidnappers and marauding herders terrorising the state. 

Oyebanji reiterated the resolve of his government to always partner the traditional institution for speedy development, security and robust maintenance of law and order, for Ekiti to become epicentre of investments and industrialisation. 


Oyebanji, represented by the Deputy Governor, Chief (Mrs) Monisade Afuye, said these on Thursday, while presenting the Staff of Office and Instrument of appointment to the new Onirele, from Ikole Local Government Area of the State .

Presenting the paraphernalia of office to the new monarch, who hailed from Oke Aga Royal Dynasty, Oyebanji, urged the Irele people to partner the new monarch to rout the perpetrators of kidnapping and killings in Ipao-Oke Ako- Irele axis of the state.



Oyebanji hinged the spiraling insecurity in the Northern axis of Ekiti on increasing number of vacant stools, saying he was elated that Irele town had overcome the challenge and selected a personality that would rally them against insecurity in the town. 

The governor said: "The government is eagerly looking forward to the conclusion of the selection process of the kabiyesis in Oke Ako, Iyemero and Ayebode towns. 

"I want to appeal to the sons and daughters of these communities to reconcile all differences and withdraw all the pending court cases to enable quick completion of the selection process".

Oyebanji stressed that for the avoidance of doubts, the monarch as the leader, is expected to be the medium of communication between the people and the government, ensures peace and stability, maintain law and order as well as security in his town. 


Indicating that the traditional stool should be guarded with caution, the governor appealed to the monarch to be neutral and remain unbiased while adjudicating on any crisis brought before him, describing this as the best way to unify the people and earn the respect of his subjects.

Conversely, Oyebanji advised the Irele people to respect their monarch as the leader to help in unifying the town for accelerated development.

The governor reminded that many towns in Ekiti are in a standstill because of avoidable disagreements between the traditional stool and their people, saying the government would henceforth perceive such worrisome disposition as a sabotage.  

"Now that you have emerged, go and unify your town. Don't cause division. You can only flourish when you are in unity and peace. We don't want crisis, what Mr Governor wants is love, accelerated development, and unity in all the sections of our dear state".

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Chieftaincy and Home Affairs, Hon Ojo Atobioke, said the process leading to the emergence of the new monarch was devoid of manipulation, urging him not to betray the confidence reposed in his competence and moral standing.  

Atibioke enjoined the town to rally support for the monarch in the area of security, development, maintenance of social order, for them to benefit from the numerous developmental programmes being executed by Governor Oyebanji.

In his acceptance speech, Oba Andero, saluted Governor Oyebanji for being neutral in the selection of Obas, promising to strive hard to ensure security of lives and property, especially combating the kidnappers and blood-sucking herders terrorising his people. 

The monarch pledged that he would work with the kingmakers, chiefs, elite and other critical stakeholders, to entrench unity in the town and elevate progress in all spheres. 

Oba Andero, who commended Oyebanji for spreading development across all the towns, appealed to the government to rehabilitate Ayedun-Irele road, deploy qualified teachers and personnel to Irele schools and health centre as well establish cottage industry in the town. 

"Despite that we had a stiff contest, I am keeping no grudge or ill-feelings against anybody. We are one for the progress of Irele Ekiti", the monarch said.

Present at the occasion were: The lawmaker representing Oye Constituency 2, Hon. Idowu Odebunmi, the Chairmen of Ikole Local Government, Hon. Bayo Omojola, the Chairman of Ajoni Local Council Development Area, Hon. Michael Ogungbemi, Chairman, Ekiti State Local Government Service Commission, Hon. Samuel Abejide.

Others included: The Chairman of Council of Traditional Rulers, Oba Ilori Faboro, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Chieftaincy and Home Affairs, Mrs Olabisi Akindele, her counterpart in the Deputy Governor's Office, Mr. Abayomi Opeyemi, traditional chiefs, among others.

Wife of Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Olayemi Oyebanji, has promised to collaborate with a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Triumphant Redeemer Glorious Centre (TRGC), to alleviate poverty among the youths in the state.
 
The Ekiti State First Lady made the disclosure while playing host to the NGO based in the United States of America (USA) in her office in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.

Dr. Oyebanji who intimated the NGO team of her empowerment project, Widows and Orphans Hope (WAOH), also said that she has another project, tagged "Keep Girls in School" which has helped to keep female students in school.

She appreciated the NGO for giving back to the society especially coming from the United States of America to empower the youths in the state. 

Also, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Peju Babafemi, appreciated the NGO for their passion for the state saying this was in harmony with the initiative of the Governor in ensuring that the youths were well empowered. 

In his submission, the Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr. Gold Adedayo appreciated the efforts of the NGO and for choosing Ekiti State for such empowerment project.

Earlier, the NGO team leader, Mrs. Bunmi Makinde, said her passion for human development was the motivating factor behind her giving back to the society. 

Mrs. Makinde, who is an Ekiti indigene, listed some of her achievements since she got to the state to include, donation to orphanage homes, equipping library with books in compliance with with International standards, installation of gymnastics facilities for children and youths among others. 

She solicited the support of the wife of the Governor in ensuring a safe stay to achieve the organisational goals.

In a remarkable demonstration of solidarity and proactive governance, Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji has taken proactive steps to bring succor to the victims of rainstorm that wreck havoc to households and caused severe damages on communities in Ekiti.


The destructive impact of the rainstorm left numerous homes destroyed and families displaced in Omu and Ijelu Ekiti communities, prompting urgent intervention from both the state government and local representatives. Governor Oyebanji, recognizing the urgent need for action, swiftly issued directives to initiate relief and rehabilitation efforts for the affected residents.


Expressing deep concern for the welfare of the affected communities, Governor Oyebanji pledged full support towards their recovery and emphasized the importance of unity and collective action during crises. He reaffirmed his administration's commitment to providing assistance and resources to alleviate the suffering of those in need.


Honorable Idowu Odebunmi (ID-ALUTA), appreciates the people's Governor for coming to their aid and commended his proactive response to the disaster. He emphasized the significance of government intervention in restoring normalcy to the affected communities and alleviating the plight of affected families.

During the visit, Governor Oyebanji through the Deputy Governor, directed residents still residing in affected buildings to vacate immediately to prevent the risk of further harm. He also urged residents to participate in the state government's tree planting initiative to mitigate future risks posed by heavy rainfall.

Additionally, Honorable Idowu Odebunmi reassured the victims of government assistance in rebuilding their damaged structures. He commended Governor Oyebanji for the ongoing reconstruction works on Itapa-Ijelu-Omu road and pledged the community's support in future elections as a gesture of appreciation.

In response to the devastation, the Owajumu of Omu-Ekiti, Oba Adeyeye Ogundeyi, commended Governor Oyebanji's leadership for prioritizing the welfare of the people. He noted that 22 houses were affected in his domain, underscoring the urgent need for assistance and reconstruction efforts.

As part of his administration’s resolve to ensure a safer environment, Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji has inaugurated the Ekiti Agro Marshals to safeguard farmlands, schools, and palaces across the state.

This is with a view to creating a conducive environment for farming to thrive, thereby boosting food security in the state. 


Speaking during the passing out parade of the Marshalls in Ado- Ekiti on Tuesday, the Governor said the local security outfit is designed to compliment efforts of the Police and other security agencies in the war against criminality in the state. 


The Governor explained that the Agro Marshals became necessary following the instruction of the President to the Governors to set up a Special Guard to protect farmlands and the forest. This, in addition to suggestions of the security council and that of the traditional rulers in the state, led to the establishment of the new outfit. 


Emphasizing the importance of securing agricultural resources, educational institutions and cultural heritage sites to ensure sustainable development and communal harmony, Governor Oyebanji said the main mandate of the Marshals is to ensure that farmlands, palaces and schools are protected across the state.


Oyebanji, while maintaining that his government remains committed to security of lives and property of the citizens in the state, expressed his confidence that, with the right collaboration between the Marshals and other security agencies, Ekiti will be the safest place in the country.


He added that the initiative is a collaborative effort between the state, the local government and traditional institution to safeguard the lives of farmers in order to enhance safety on the farms thereby boosting food production and food security.

The Governor charged the Marshals not to violate the fundamental human rights of the citizen but discharged their duties diligently within the confine of the constitution of the country.

“They are to compliments the efforts of the formal security apparatus, they are not to replace them, they are to work together , gather intelligence but their main mandate is to ensure our farmlands, palaces and schools are protected and because they are local they have access to intelligence, understand the community and the environment.

“I charge the officers not to violate the fundamental human rights of the citizens, you cannot be arbitrary and everything you are going to do must be done within the confine of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria”. The Governor asserted.

Earlier in his remarks, the Commander of the Marshals, Rtd. ACP Olamide Oni who commended the Governor for ensuring that the people of the state can sleep with their two eyes closed, said the Matshals  have been trained on the requirements for carrying out their duties effectively and efficiently.

He assured the Governor that the state would henceforth experience peace on the various farmlands and forests.

In his goodwill message, the Chairman, Council of Traditional rulers, Oba Ilori Faboro on behalf of all royal fathers in the state, expressed his appreciation to the Governor for all his efforts at ensuring that Ekiti remain the safest state in the country and assured the Governor that Royal fathers in the state would provide necessary support to the Marshals.
