Oyebanji hails FUOYE council on development, promises support for institution.

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji has commended the Governing Council of Federal University, Oye Ekiti (FUOYE) for developing the university to enviable heights within 11 years of its establishment.

Governor Oyebanji stated this while receiving members of the Governing Council of the University led by its chairman, Senator Victor Ndoma- Egba, and the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Fasina at the Governor’s office, Ado Ekiti on Monday. The Governor also applauded the institution for championing academic excellence among over 280 public universities in the country.

The Governor said there is no doubt that FUOYE under the leadership of Senator Ndoma-Egba will continue to soar higher, adding that he is impressed with the accomplishments of staff and students of the institution in areas of academic excellence and research.

Governor Oyebanji emphasized that the state government would continue to support the university in its infrastructure development drive, which is geared towards repositioning the institution as one of the leading institutions of higher learning.

Speaking on the education policy of his administration, the Governor said his government would continue to translate the state’s comparative advantage in education into wealth creation in line with shared prosperity agenda of the administration. This, he said informed huge investment in learning facilities in primary, secondary and tertiary institutions in the state.

He commended Senator Ndoma- Egba for the richness of his  contribution during his time at the National Assembly as well as his sterling contribution to national development as an accomplished lawyer, politician and public servant.

“When you were in the Seventh Senate, you were one of the few senators I took special interest in, because of the richness of your contributions on the floor of the senate and by the kind of leadership you espoused. You remain a leader that I have absolute respect for.

“I must congratulate FUOYE for having you as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Council, I must also thank the President for putting a fit and proper person as the chair of the council of the university.

“Like you rightly said, I keep telling my friends that Ekiti state has the highest PhD holders per capital in the country, our challenge as a government is how to translate that to wealth creation for the people. How to ensure that those titles solve problems for Ekiti. We must add value to the people and the state that will bring gains to the society.

“I can assure you that we will partner with you to ensure that we realize those indelible legacies that you intend to leave behind. On most of the issues you raised, especially the issue of Certificate of Occupancy, the state will take that up immediately. We will also look into the request for fencing and I will also tell you that work has already started on the road from Oye to Are Ekiti.

Earlier, the Chairman of the University Council, Senator Victor Ndoma- Egba had commended the hospitality of Ekiti people, which according to him had been the greatest impetus that had driven the university to thrive and achieve remarkable growth and development it has achieved.

Senator Ndoma-Egba  also applauded Governor Oyebanji for his development strides in the health, education, infrastructure, agriculture, and other sectors of the economy, which he said the Governor is doing without noise.

“Your Excellency, let me congratulate you once again. You are doing so much in Education, agriculture, infrastructure, in health and other sectors. You are doing so much with very little noise”, he added.

The Pro Chancellor  stated further that during his tenure at FUOYE, he would do all within his power to stabilize the academic calendar of the university, urging the unions to allow relevant and extant laws to guide their grievance management.

Governor Oyebanji gave the commendation on Sunday when he paid an unscheduled visit to Osho, who was injured during the operation, at his residence in Ado Ekiti.

The firefighter and his wife were overwhelmed with emotions on sighting the Governor at their residence in Dalimore area of the state capital Sunday afternoon.

Governor Oyebanji, who said he came to express the gratitude of the State Government and the people of the state to Osho, said he also wanted to follow up on his recovery, having been hospitalized over the injury he sustained. The Governor commended the firefighter and engaged him on aspects of their job during the visit which lasted about 20 minutes.

Speaking with journalists shortly after the visit, the Governor who hailed the firefighter and his team for their gallantry noted that their effectiveness in curtaining the fire was a reflection of the dedication of public servants in the state to their duties.

The Governor said the swift response of the State Fire Service officials was instrumental in averting what could have been a major fire disaster in the state.

He attributed the effectiveness of the state fire service to emergencies to his administration’s huge investment in fire fighting equipment as well as Government ‘s efforts at revamping the agency.

Governor Oyebanji said the state fire service under his administration, had undergone significant transformation, adding that the agency has been revamped, with staff undergoing rigorous training programmes on different aspects of emergency response in order to enhance their capacity. This, he said, is in addition to the deployment of fire trucks across senatorial districts in the state thereby ensuring swift response and effectiveness during emergencies.

With that singular act, they saved many lives,  investments and a lot of properties.

“But in the course of that, he was injured, and was rushed to the hospital. I was out of the state then, but I was monitoring his recovery. So I just came here today to confirm the report I got that he is responding to treatment and I am happy he’s  recuperating well. I am here to also thank him on behalf of the government and people of Ekiti State for making us proud”. The Governor said.

BAO:THE NEW EKITI ROAD CONSTRUCTION KING.

BAO:THE NEW EKITI ROAD CONSTRUCTION KING.
By Mary Oso-Omotoso.

Ekiti State is currently undergoing a remarkable transformation under Governor Biodun Oyebanji's leadership. Dubbed the "Construction King," Oyebanji has made significant strides in infrastructure development, revolutionising the state's road network.

His unwavering commitment to quality and timely completion is evident in his proactive approach to infrastructure in the state. He has transformed Ekiti into a bustling construction site, with marked progress visible on various road projects. In fact, every corner of the state is now either a yard of road construction or rehabilitation!

This is evident as he stresses the importance of durable infrastructure, adherence to standards, in ensuring that both roads under construction and the newly constructed ones will be a testament to longevity and resilience.

Recall that few weeks after his swearing in, BAO embarked on a rigorous tour around Ekiti, identifying the nature of roads in the state, while taking note of their immediate urgency. Within his first 100 days in office, he completed rehabilitation of seven township roads in Ado Ekiti. Some of the rehabilitated roads include Matthew Street, Mugbagba Street, Ijigbo Roundabout, Atikankan and Olukayode Stadium-Okuta Gbokutalori- Old Garage road. Others are Atikankan-Isato Oke-Sadiat Hotel road, Basiri Road, Adebayo road and Oke Bola access road.

No doubt, all the roads mentioned above have been making lives easy for commuters and other road users since then. This effort goes a long way to assist the populace in carrying out their day-to-day activities and reduce accidents.

To make true his earlier pledge to the chairmen of 38 LGAs and LCDAs in the state of supporting them with at least five kilometers road construction per council, BAO has various ongoing road projects in the state. Some of them are Okeyinmi fly over bridge, which is poised to open up the state capital; Ado-Ekiti Ring Road; Igede- Ilawe Road; Erijinyan-Ilawe Road; Ikogosi-Igbara Road; Ikere-Igbara-Odo Road; Ado-Akure Road; Ikere-Ise-Emure Road; Ikere-Ado Road, Ikere –Ilawe road; GRA road dualisation and GRA 3rd Extension road.

Others are Agric Olope- Moferere Road; Ado-iworoko-Ifaki road; Hospital Management Board-Doctors Quarters road; Isinbode-Ara-Ikole Road; Ikole Township road; Itapa-Omu Ijelu road; Ijero township road; Ayegunle-Ijurin-Iloro/Ipoti/Ilukuno/Odo-Owa/Oke-Oro road; Obisesan- Oke Ala- Basiri Road; Itapaji- Iyemero- Oke Ako road , Itawure- Aramoko road , Emure - Eporo road , as well as Ring Road (Phase 1, Afao- Are-Iworoko). Of course, you will agree with me that this list is a handful! It is also on the record that both Jimoh Aliu/Nova Road and Omisanjana-Alasia-Deeper Life –Atlas road 132KVA- Ajebandele  Road have been completed and delivered among others.

Aside all the listed  road projects , It is worthy of note that the construction of more  roads across the state under the  Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP) has also commenced . Over 180 towns in Ekiti State are set to benefit from the road construction project under RAAMP .

Already ,  construction  is ongoing the following locations: Enu Odi-Itaeku- Igirigiri road ,Omisanjana- Ben Folarin  - Oke Aso road ,Oye  -Are Ekiti road, Afolu- Odofin road ,Ise - Imola road, Owode- Ananye road ,Erinmope- Irare- Ikosun road ,Iye - Isapa - Olopomeji- Ikun road,Igbole / Osi - Iropora road,Ara- Ekameta ,Ilupeju - Igbo Egan 1 - Ayede road ,FMS Oke Ako road , Ikogosi-Aba Osun-Aba Ori Okuta-ikogosi road ,Ijero-Epe-Araromi-Iropora road,Ikole-Isaba-Ikoyi-Igbemo road.

Despite different challenges that could have hampered his avowed commitment to give the state its required face-lift, the Governor is relentless, he constantly embark on routine inspection tour of all the ongoing construction with zeal and determination  .

The road projects under scrutiny are not just mere infrastructure developments but arteries that will breathe life into the state’s economy.

At every inspection tour ,the enthusiastic reception from residents during the Governor’s site visits speaks volumes, demonstrating their appreciation for his  works and anticipation of improved road connectivity.

The successful completion of these road projects will not only enhance transportation but also pave the way for sustainable development, reflecting the Governor’s vision of a vibrant and thriving Ekiti. With each milestone achieved, BAO, the construction King continues to etch his legacy as a catalyst for progress in the state.

The road projects serve not only as pathways for transportation but also as conduits for economic growth and societal transformation. By improving the state’s infrastructure, Governor Oyebanji is laying the groundwork for a more resilient and competitive Ekiti, where businesses can thrive, communities can prosper, and individuals can access new opportunities.

Mr Governor’s leadership is characterized by a deep sense of responsibility towards the people of Ekiti. His commitment to transparency, accountability, and excellence in project execution sets a high standard for governance and underscores his dedication to the state’s progress.

Apart from the state roads, BAO is also working strategically with the Federal Government to expedite actions on some of the dilapidated federal roads in the state some of which have received President Tinubu’s approval such as Ifaki - Ikole - Omuo , Ado -Ijan - Ikare .

Mr Governor is taking bold steps to improve road network  in the state including Federal roads whist his counterparts in other states of the federation might probably be waiting on the Federal Government to come to their aids in respect of dilapidated federal roads in their states.

The governor is currently constructing one of the federal government roads ; Ado-Iworoko-Ifaki road, the aim is to further enhance economic and social life in the state.

In his recent remarks regarding this corridor, Governor Oyebanji emphasised the importance of continuity, acknowledging the start of the Ado-Iworoko-Ifaki road project by his predecessor, Dr John  Kayode Fayemi. Mr Governor also does not shy away from expressing his  gratitude for the federal government’s support, particularly from President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

As the construction King, Governor Oyebanji’s efforts extend beyond mere physical developments. His administration’s focus on infrastructure projects is symbolic of a larger vision for Ekiti – an ambition to create a more prosperous and inclusive society where opportunities abound for all.

So, as the construction projects continue to unfold and the landscape of Ekiti undergoes a visible transformation, the Governor’s legacy as a visionary leader and catalyst for positive change is solidified. His tireless efforts, coupled with the support of the people, are shaping a brighter future for Ekiti – one characterised by shared prosperity, sustainable development, and enduring progress.

While Ekiti undergoes this metamorphosis with a flurry of construction activities, the narrative of dilapidated roads is gradually fading away. In its place ,emerges a promising future of enhanced connectivity, solid infrastructure, and economic prosperity for all Ekiti residents.
