Council Boss Unveils Sale of Organoleptic Porks.

Council Boss Unveils Sale of Organoleptic Porks.

The Executive Chairman of Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government, Honorable Oluwatuyi Oluwagbenga, popularly known as "Chenco," has pioneered a groundbreaking initiative with the launch of an "Organoleptic Pig Farm". Inspired by his political mentor, Governor Biodun Oyebanji, the initiative marks a significant economic and agricultural development in the local government, which has existed for over 15 years.

The project, aimed at boosting solid protein consumption and revenue generation, was unveiled amidst throngs of buyers within and outside the local government. While addressing the gathering, the chairman emphasized the relevance and benefits of investing in pig farming.

In his speech, Hon. Oluwatuyi explained the concept of "Organoleptic Pigs," highlighting their superior qualities such as juiciness, flavor, aroma, texture, and high protein content. These characteristics, he noted, appeal to consumers seeking quality protein to meet their dietary needs.

He further outlined the numerous benefits of pig farming, both on a large and small scale. According to him, pig farming serves as a reliable source of food security and agricultural investment, given that a sow can farrow (give birth) twice a year, with litters ranging from 10 to 15 piglets.

With favorable climatic conditions and a dedicated team of staff led by the competent Director of Agriculture, Hon. Oluwatuyi expressed confidence in the project’s success. He stated that Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government (IILG) is set to become a pacesetter in pig production, rearing, and sales, generating standard revenue for the local government’s development and meeting constituents’ needs.

The chairman further linked the project to Governor Biodun Oyebanji's visionary achievements in agriculture, describing it as a complement to the governor’s kindhearted, humane, and focused leadership style.

In a brief response, the Director of Agriculture and Natural Resources commended the chairman for his intelligence and commitment to educating and encouraging buyers on the benefits of pork consumption. He described the initiative as the first of its kind in the history of Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government.

Residents who thronged the event to buy pork expressed their gratitude and showered praises on the chairman. Many described it as an unprecedented experience, noting that they had previously traveled to Ado Ekiti to purchase pork at higher prices. They praised the affordability of pork sold in Igede Ekiti, calling the initiative a relief for local consumers.

The Head of Local Government Administration, Prince Oladimeji Adegoke, described the initiative as a sign of greater breakthroughs and democratic benefits under the administration of Hon. Oluwatuyi.

In his remarks, Comrade Aina Olawole-Festus, speaking in the Ekiti dialect, lauded the chairman as a "solid positive force to be reckoned with." He commended his gentle yet impactful leadership, which has transformed the economic structure of Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government to enviable heights.

The establishment of the pig farm within the local government secretariat, many believe, will serve as a lasting legacy for economic empowerment and development in the region.

Ojuawo encourages farmers to adopt all year-round planting approach.

In anticipation of the dry season farming, Hon. (AVM Rtd) Ojuawo Rufus Adeniyi, the honorable Member representing Ekiti South Federal Constituency 1, visited his empowerment farm at Ogbese to prepare the farmers for upcoming dry season farming. The farm has been thriving, having produced tonnes of tomatoes a few months ago and currently harvesting beans in phases.

During his visit, Hon. Ojuawo inspected the plots, met with the farmers, and commended them for their hard work and dedication.
'Your solar powered borehole is now ready, and we've acquired an additional pumping machines to support the irrigation process. From now on, I expect you to adopt all year-round planting approach, also known as "planting round the season", which involves cultivating crops continuously throughout the year, regardless of the season. This method can help increase food production and availability, even during periods of low rainfall or harsh weather conditions. By doing so, you'll be able to make the most of your solar powered borehole and pumping machines, and enjoy a consistent harvest throughout the year.' He encouraged those who had been less regular at the farm to keep their plots weed-free, assuring them of his continued support to produce more food for the community.

Hon. Ojuawo was particularly impressed with the beans plantation, and the farm Coordinator, Engr Bayo Olotin, expressed gratitude for his consistent support and leadership. The farmers plan to start plowing next week to plant vegetables for the dry season, aiming to meet the tomato production cycle by early February next year. The farmers unanimously thanked Hon. Ojuawo for his unwavering support since the empowerment farm's inception, from the training period to the present.

This empowerment farm has been instrumental in providing food and supporting the local community, as seen in the success of the farm's products hitting the market in Ekiti. Hon. Ojuawo's commitment to the farm and the farmers is truly commendable, and his efforts have not gone unnoticed.

Ekiti Govt Annuls Installation of Traditional Chief, Orders New Selection Process.

Ekiti Govt Annuls Installation of Traditional Chief, Orders New Selection Process.

The Ekiti State Government, on Tuesday, cancelled the installation of Chief Ige Ademiluyi as the Obaorun of Ijan Ekiti, Ayekire Local Government Area, saying the process leading to his selection and enthronement was faulty and contravened the laid down traditions.

Obaorun traditional stool from Ikesan Quarters, was the number six among the nine kingmakers in the chieftaincy hierarchal order of Ijan Ekiti community.

The Ekiti State Deputy Governor, Chief (Mrs) Monisade Afuye, gave the annulment order in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State Capital, while interfacing with the stakeholders from the community.

The intervention was sequel to the petition written by Major Olajide Ijadare, alleging cases of threat and intimidation to his person by some prominent chiefs over crisis surrounding the installation of a new Obaorun.

In her verdict after listening to the parties involved, particularly the testimonies outlined by some kingmakers, Mrs Afuye, ordered that the installation of Chief Ademiluyi be reversed with immediate effect.

The Deputy Governor directed the family to cooperate with Onijan of Ijan Ekiti, Oba Adebanji Aladesuyi for the commencement of a new selection process that will involve all interested parties, Ifa consultation and visitations to all sacred places the Chief ought to have visited.

For the new selection to garner high acceptability, Mrs Afuye, directed the chairmen of Ayekire and Gbonyin Council areas and officers of the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Home Affairs to witness the process and ascertain its propriety.

“It was wrong for some interested parties in the traditional seat to have been shut out during the selection process. Some traditions were also not observed, this is not acceptable to us in the interest of peace.

“There is no way we won’t reverse the whole process. The Ifa traditional consultation was the best way to resolve the matter. But under this case, no Ifa consultation was done, no evidence to show this. We have no choice than to reverse his installation and allow the process to begin again.

“Let whoever has interest in the family to indicate intent in order to allow peace to reign and for our traditions to be preserved”, she said.

Mrs Afuye also ordered immediate stoppage of Obaorun’s monthly stipend pending the time a new process will be completed.

During the proceeding, the Onijan of Ijan Ekiti, Oba Aladesuyi, countered that the process leading to Chief Ademiluyi’s followed proper traditional procedures.

However, Oba Aladesuyi commended the State Government for the swift intervention, saying the community will heed the directive handed down by the government to pacify aggrieved members.

Countering the position maintained by the monarch, a member of the family, Chief Ropo Adesanya, who spoke at the event, faulted the process leading to Chief Ademiluyi’s ascension, saying the position taken by the government will help in resolving the problem.

Another kingmaker from the community and Olufon of Ijan Ekiti, Chief James Dada, said the laid down process for the ascension of any kingmaker called ‘Elu’ in Ijan Ekiti can’t be compromised, saying it was a sacrilege to toe such sordid path.
