The Government of Ekiti State on Friday, 14th of June, 2024, took a significant step forward to advancing innovation, science and digital economy within the State by signing a Letter of Intent and Preliminary Memorandum of Understanding with the Centre for China-Africa Discourse Studies (CECADS). This landmark event, held in Hangzhou, marked the beginning of a transformative partnership between CECADS and the Ekiti State Ministry of Innovation, Science, and Digital Economy (MISDE).

Representing the Governor of Ekiti State, H.E Biodun Oyebanji, at this momentous occasion, Honorable Commissioner for Innovation , Science and Digital Economy, Ekiti State, ‘Seun Fakuade signed the documents which underscores Ekiti State’s unwavering commitment to advancing technology training and development. This collaboration is aimed at establishing a state-of-the-art technology training hub in Ekiti State, equipping Ekiti youths with the skills necessary to thrive in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.

This partnership with CECADS is a testament of the Governor Biodun Oyebanji led administration’s drive to fostering innovation and digital transformation.

The Ekiti State Government, through MISDE, has further proven that it remains open and ready to attract investors, support investors and collaborate with them. The goal of this partnership is to turn knowledge into wealth creation and shared prosperity through innovative approaches. This agreement is a significant step towards realizing this vision of an empowered and technologically advanced Ekiti State.

The event was attended by Governor Oyebanji, who joined virtually, and CECADS team led by Director Modestus. Also at the event was His Excellency the Consul General in Shanghai, China, represented by Minister/Consul Econ/Trade & Investment, Dr. Ilesanmi Abiodun Bakare,and the dedicated team of MISDE top management who also joined virtually.

Oyebanji expresses condolences on the demise of Elemure of Emure, Oba Emmanuel Adebayo.



Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji has expressed condolences on the demise of the Elemure of Emure-Ekiti, HRM Oba Emmanuel Adebayo, who transited recently.

The news of the demise of the renowned traditional ruler was officially communicated to the Governor over the weekend after the conclusion of all traditional rites.

Governor Oyebanji, in a condolence message signed by his Special Adviser on Media, Yinka Oyebode, described the demise of Oba Adebayo as a sad development, given the fact the late monarch did not exhibit any sign of illness during their last meeting.

The Governor described the late Oba Adebayo as a loving and dependable traditional ruler who loved and cared for the people and showed tremendous interest in their welfare as well as the development of his town.

Condoling with the family of the late monarch, the Elemure-in- Council and the people of the town over the exit of the Oba, the Governor urged them to be consoled by the fact the late Oba Adebayo lived an impactful life of service to the town, Ekiti State, Nigeria and humanity, for which he would remain unforgettable.

“My condolences and that of the Government of Ekiti State to the immediate family of the late Kabiyesi, the Elemure-in-Council and the good people of Emure- Ekiti on the demise of the Elemure, Oba Emmanuel Adebayo.

“The late Oba Adebayo was a great leader of his people, a lover of development and a patriot who devoted his early life to the service of the country as a police officer who rose to the position of a Commissioner of Police before ascending the throne of his fore fathers, where he also made his mark as a traditional ruler, whose reign attracted huge development to his town.

“Our prayer is that the good Lord would grant the dear departed monarch eternal rest and comfort the family and the good people of Emure-Ekiti”, the Governor added.

The Ekiti State government has alerted residents of the state on the recent outbreak of Cholera in Lagos State.

This was contained in a statement by the Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr. Oyebanji Filani, urging residents to keep a clean environment, drink safe water, wash their hands regularly, among others.

According to him, the state government has established a Rapid Response Team, RRT, to actively look out for cholera cases across the 16 LGAs.

“Hand Hygiene: Wash hands frequently with soap and water, before eating and after using the toilet. Safe Water: Ensure access to safe drinking water sources. Boil or treat water from questionable sources.

“Food Safety: Practice safe food handling, cooking and storage to prevent cholera. Hygienic Sanitation: Use proper toilet facilities and maintain clean sanitation practices.

“Vaccination: Stay up-to-date with vaccinations against diarrheal diseases particularly for children. Hydration: Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids, especially during episodes of cholera. Environmental Hygiene: Keep surroundings clean and free from faecal contamination.

“The State has an operational readiness strategy (based on previous epidemiologic data, risk assessment and identified hotspots) to prevent the outbreak of cholera in Ekiti State through the Incident Management System (IMS) with functional areas/pillars.

“The State has an already established Rapid Response Team (RRT) at both State and Local Government Areas (LGAs) to actively search for cholera cases. As a result of this, there is a heightened surveillance for Cholera and other priority diseases across the 16 LGAs in the State.

“To curtail community spread of secondary infections, thorough contact tracing, optimal communication strategy for community engagement and mass sensitization and to also ensure adherence to standard infection, prevention and control measures at both community and health facility levels, the State is utilizing a multisectoral approach for line response.

“Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs); Ministry of Health, Ministry of Environment, Local Government Service Commission Environmental Health Department, State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Hospitals Management Board, Tertiary Health Institutions, Ministry of Information and Civic Orientation, State Emergency Management Agency, Red Cross, Development Partners to work interconnectedly.

“Remember, practicing good hygiene habits and promoting community-wide preventive measures are essential in combating cholera and promoting public health.

The Hausa community in Sasha market, Ikere Ekiti, joined other Muslims in the state to celebrate Eid-El-Kabir, emphasizing the need to imbibe the lessons that the season stands for.

The Eid program was presided over by the Chief Imam of the community, Alhaji Garba Danmalamai, who offered prayers for a quick solution to the challenges confronting the country and for peace to reign across the nation.


Speaking on behalf of the congregation, the Chairman of the Hausa Community in Ikere, Alhaji Musa Abdulhamid, appreciated Allah for witnessing another festive season and prayed for God's guidance for Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, in his quest to make the state better.


Alhaji Yusuf, the Sarki Hausawa of Ado Ekiti, thanked Governor Oyebanji for giving the Hausa community a voice in the state through the appointment of Hussein Bawa as a Special Assistant. He also praised the recent rollout of palliatives to the Hausa community members through the Special Assistant Mr. Bawa Hussein, which have been distributed across the community in the 16 local governments.


The Sarki Hausawa of Ado Ekiti, Alhaji Abdul Yusuf, emphasized the importance of obedience to God's commandments, as exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim, urging the faithful to be peaceful wherever they find themselves.

While passing a vote of confidence on Governor Oyebanji and the Special Assistant on Hausa Community Matters, Hussein Bawa, Alhaji Yusuf appealed to the state government to help in constructing the Sasha market road for easy access by the people.

The Eid-El-Kabir celebrations in Sasha market, Ikere Ekiti, have highlighted the strong ties between the Hausa community and the Ekiti State government, with Hussein Bawa's office playing a crucial role in representing their interests.

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji has mourned the death of the immediate past Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development in the State, Chief Diran Adesua, who passed on Friday. 


Adesua, a governorship aspirant in the 2018 gubernatorial election in Ekiti State had served the State twice as Commissioner for Works in 1999 and later Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development between 2018 and 2022. 


Governor Oyebanji, in a condolence message signed by his Special Adviser on Media, Olayinka Oyebode, described Adesua’s death as shocking; noting that it is an irreparable loss to the progressives fold of the All Progressives Congress and the State at large.



He said the deceased was a notable figure who served Ekiti State meritoriously in different capacities and was reputed for contributing meaningfully to the development of the State.

While describing the late Adesua as a great leader of his people in Ekiti East Local  Government area of the State, Governor Oyebanji said there is no controversy that Adesua was loved and respected by the people and would be sorely missed by all.

“On behalf of my wife, the Government and good people of Ekiti State, I commiserate with the children and immediate family members of Chief Diran Adesua on the death of this illustrious son of Ekiti. Though his death is shocking and sad, we are consoled by the impactful life he lived as a community leader, distinguished professional and politician. It is our prayer that the good Lord will grant him eternal rest and comfort the family he left behind”, Oyebanji said.

In a related development, Governor Oyebanji has also commiserated with the family of a former Commissioner for Education in the state, Chief (Mrs) Titilayo Ojo. 

The late Mrs Ojo who served as Commissioner for Education during the administration of Otunba Niyi Adebayo, was a renowned progressive leader in Ikole Local Government and Ekiti State, and a rallying point for All Progressives Congress ( APC) women. 

The Governor who paid a condolence visit to the Ojos’ family home at Odo Ayedun Ekiti on Saturday, commiserated with the deceased husband, Engr Ayo Ojo,  the children and entire APC family in Ikole Local  Government.

The Governor said the late Mrs Ojo lived a life of service to the state, the party and humanity. He urged her husband, Engr Ojo and the children to be consoled with the fact the former commissioner left behind legacies of service, honour and excellence. 

“ We shall miss Mama Titilayo Ojo, no doubt. But she will be remembered for her diligence, discipline and dedication to good causes. May God grant her eternal rest and comfort the family”, the Governor added.

In his Eid-el Kabir message, Dr Kayode Fayemi, former Governor of Ekiti State and ex-chairman of the Nigerian Governors' Forum (NGF) has extended warm greetings to Muslim faithful across the country and called on Nigerians to embody the ideals of the sacred festival.

"As we celebrate this year's Eid el Kabir, I extend my warm greetings and heartfelt wishes to all our Muslim brothers and sisters across Nigeria," Fayemi said. "Eid el Kabir reminds us of the boundless compassion of the Almighty and the enduring strength found in unity and community."

He described the festival as a powerful reminder that true devotion requires sacrifice and a willingness to place the greater good above personal interests, urging the faithful to reflect on these ideals and embody them daily through empathy, generosity, and solidarity.

‘’Eid el Kabir is not merely a time for festivity. It is an opportunity to reinforce our commitment to values of empathy, generosity, and solidarity," he stated.

He further acknowledged Nigeria’s current challenges, emphasizing the nation's resilience and ability to overcome adversity through unity.  

"We are all aware of the myriad challenges facing our beloved country today as Nigerians navigate difficult times. But let us remember that even in the face of adversity, our resilience as a people remains unshaken. Our history is replete with instances where we have come together to overcome daunting obstacles, emerging stronger and more united," he said.

The former governor called on Nigerians to hold steadfast to hope and continue supporting one another, drawing inspiration from the essence of Eid el Kabir, and expressing confidence that the nation can build a better future through collective effort and action.  

"I urge all Nigerians to hold steadfast to hope and support one another. Let us draw inspiration from the essence of Eid el Kabir, recognizing that every challenge we face is an opportunity for growth and renewal. Through collective effort and action, we can build a brighter future for ourselves and generations," Fayemi added.

He wished that the Eid-el Kabir celebrations would bring joy, peace, and prosperity to the nation, and prayed that God would accept the sacrifices of the faithful, and guide the country towards a future of hope and fulfilment.

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji has called on the leadership of the local government in the state to place high premium on professionalism, discipline, integrity, compassion, and teamwork in order to drive substantial improvement in local government administration.



Governor Oyebanji, who made the call while declaring open a three-day retreat for the heads of local government and local council development areas of the state at the NULGE secretariat, Ado- Ekiti on Friday, said maintaining high professional standard is crucial for effective service delivery for the development and progress of the grassroots.


Recognizing the importance of strong leadership and ethical standards in public service, the Governor said the only way for them to earn the trust of the people such that they will discharge their civic responsibility to government is by dealing with them with utmost sincerity integrity, efficiency and professionalism.

He urged them to uphold the highest ethical standards of honesty and transparency in all their dealings, adding that public confidence in local governments hinges on the perceived honesty and reliability of its leaders. This, he said, is the only way to correct the wrong notion that local government staff are generally under-engaged.


Expressing his administration’s firm belief in training and re-training of workers in order to bring out the best in them and  enhance their productivity, the Governor said that was why he restored the full payment of the training funds to the local government commission.
 
While commending the leadership of the local government service commission for working hard to reposition the local government to be able to respond appropriately to the demands vision, programs, and project of  his administration, the Governor assured them that his administration would continue to prioritize the welfare of workers in the state.
 
“I must be frank with you that many people hold the view rightly or wrongly that the local government staffs are generally under-engaged, form of absenteeism, and are not well motivated for service delivery. We may want to argue this, but we must take it as a fair criticism and do something about it. The first step to take is to lead by example. I expect the leadership to be in charge by placing premiums on professionalism, discipline, integrity, compassion, and teamwork at the workplace.

“As government, we will continue to prioritize the welfare of our workers at all times. Since we came on board, we have offset some legacy salary arrears, paid salary as and when due, we have approved the promotion of 2022/2023 for those who are eligible”. The Governor said.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Chairman, Local Government Service Commission, Chief Samuel Abejide, who appreciated the Governor for his efforts at ensuring that the local government staffs are at per with their state counterparts,  itemized the Governor’s achievement in local government to include, approval of reinstatement of local government training fund, purchase of utility vehicle for top government officials, renovation of local government service commission's secretariat, approval of 2022 and 2023 promotion, among others.

He said the training was conceived to further improve members of staff behaviour, staff behavioural changes positively bearing in mind the dynamics of human behaviour, environmental challenges and emerging trends and how they can impact on the delivery of quality services.

In his goodwill message, the NULGE President, Mr Oluseyi Olatunde, commended the governor for appointing a resourceful and thorough bred board members and permanent secretary to oversee the affairs of the local government service commission.

Emphasizing various achievements of the governor in less than two years in office, Mr Oluwaseyi said local government staff had never had it so well.

He therefore urged the staff to reciprocate the Governor’s gesture by being diligent, dutiful, and committed to work.
