President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of a new leadership for the National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children Education.

Brigadier-General Lawal Ja'afar Isa (Rtd) is now to serve as the Chairman of the Board of the Commission, while Dr. Idris Muhammad Sani is to serve as the Executive Secretary/CEO.

General Ja'afar Isa is a respected leader and previously served as the Military Administrator of Kaduna State from 1993 to 1996. 

Dr. Muhammad Sani holds master's and doctorate degrees in Islamic Studies. He was the Director-General, Al-Iman School Lafia; Commissioner, Basic/Secondary Education, Yobe State; Chairman, Nigerian Arabic Language Village, Borno State; Member, Nasarawa State Government Committee on Enlightenment Campaign, and Secretary-General, Association of Private Schools in Nasarawa State.

The President expects that the new appointees will bring their vast experience into the management of this critical Commission, which impacts the very core of society, by ensuring that his administration's drive to guarantee Nigeria's out-of-school children the most comprehensive education is realized in the superseding interest of the nation's future.

President Bola Tinubu says the All Progressives Congress (APC) is on the path to victory in the forthcoming gubernatorial election in Edo State. 

President Tinubu expressed the optimism on Monday in Abuja during the presentation of the party’s flag to the Edo gubernatorial candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, and his running mate, Honourable Dennis Idahosa. 

Addressing a gathering of party stalwarts led by the National Chairman of the APC, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, at the State House, the President pledged that the party would stand with the candidates ''like the wall of Gibraltar.'' 

''If you are happy; we are happy. If you are determined; we are determined. We are going to work with you. We are going to stand with you like the wall of Gibraltar. That is all I can assure you. The party is supreme, but victory is superior and very important,'' the President said. 

President Tinubu commended the leadership of the party in Edo for their efforts towards the success of the candidates and the party. 

He particularly lauded Senator Adams Oshiomhole, former governor of the state, for his exemplary leadership.  

''Distinguished Senator and our flagbearer, we are putting you forward in order to hold the party in trust for us and achieve victory for us. You and your running mate have been described as giant killers, and you have worked tirelessly with the party leadership,'' he said. 

The President, while inviting Edo State woman leader, Lady Betty Okoebor, to speak on the party's readiness for the election, reiterated that with the strong support of women, victory is assured.

''If the women say we are going to win, then we are good to go because they constitute the largest number of voters and the most dedicated,'' President Tinubu affirmed.

In his remarks, the National Chairman of the APC emphasized the unity of purpose within the party towards achieving victory in the election. 

''Our candidate is soft-spoken, focused, and an achiever. He is a product that is highly marketable, and I am confident that with him as our flagbearer, we will bring Edo back to our party,'' Dr. Ganduje said.

Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji has again, reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring a fair representation of Muslim community in his cabinet as a means of building a government that reflects the rich tapestry of the state population and promote inclusivity and diversity in governance.

Governor Oyebanji stated this on Sunday at a Ramadan Lecture organized by the National Council of Muslim Youth Organization of Nigeria (NACOMYO), Ekiti State Chapter, in honour of the late former Commissioner  in the state,  late Alhaji Yakubu Oladoro Sanni at the Obafemi Awolowo civic and convention center,  Ado Ekiti.



Acknowledging the significant contribution of the Muslim community to the state’s development, the Governor said his administration is committed to creating an inclusive government that reflects the demographics and values of the state.

Governor Oyebanji, who lauded the late Alhaji Oladoro Sanni for his significant contribution to politics, public service, and religion, promised to continue to fulfil the electoral promises he made to the Muslim community.



He assured them that more appointments would be allocated to Muslims to uphold equity and political balance as well as build more political icons within the Muslim society in replica of the late Alhaji Sanni.

The Governor said he will continue to engage with Muslim leaders and organizations to identify individuals who can serve in different capacities in his administration as he emphasizes meritocracy as a guiding principle for appointment to his cabinet.



While appreciating the Muslim community for their support for his administration, Governor Oyebanji charged them to continue to pray for peace and harmony of the state, stressing that unity is key to ensuring political stability and fostering inclusivity for the welfare of all citizens in the State.

"I will continue to support the work of God and I thank you for the people you nominated to work with me in my cabinet, I don’t have any cause to complain about them, they are doing so so well and we’re going to have more, but I’m praying for your blessings. I won’t appoint any Muslim to position without your consent, because this government is government of the people." the Governor asserted.

In his own remarks, the President of the League of Imams and Alfas in the Southwest, Edo, and Delta, Sheik Jamiu Kewulere Bello commended Governor Oyebanji for his giant strides in the development of the state and appointment of Muslims into his government


He noted that the current administration had changed the narratives of political marginalization  of the Muslims society by giving them various key appointments as promised before the election. He added that Ekiti Muslims have never had it so well.

The theme of the lecture, "Deen over Dunya," resonated deeply with the late Sanni's legacy of selfless service to both the state and humanity.

Borno: Zulum commissions Azare mega water works.



Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, on Sunday, commissioned Azare mega water works in Hawul Local Government Area in the southern part of Borno.

The project was aimed at addressing the lingering water scarcity in Azare town and the adjoining communities.


Azare Water Works is one of the eight mega water projects initiated by the Zulum administration across the state. While the water works in Ngarannam, Moramti, Pulka, Chibok and Azare have been completed those of Madinatu and Shokwari in Jere and Musari in Maiduguri are still ongoing.



The project has a combined 565,000-litre capacity reservoir, a 400,000ltrs corrugated surface tank raised on a reinforced concrete base and another 165,000ltrs corrugated overhead tank on a 12m height steel stanchion.



The facility is powered by 22,000kv solar power and equipped with 10Hp buster pumps. It has a 5km distribution reticulation network system and various types of batteries of taps along the distribution network.



The facility also comprises of clusters of over six basement solar-powered boreholes on depths ranging from 100m with a total discharge of more than 10 Iitres per second.

Performing the commissioning ceremony, Zulum said, “It is my singular honour and privilege to commission the Azare mega water works today, the 17th of March, 2024, to the glory of God and the benefit of humanity and this community.”




The commissioner of water resources, Engr Tijjani Goni Alkali, recalled that Zulum’s administration has constructed over ten basements and hybrid boreholes, 17 hand pump boreholes and rehabilitated 20 hand pumps in Hawul Local Government Area.

Engr Alkali explained that by completing the Azare mega water projects, the objective of providing potable water supply to the people of Hawul Local Government is being achieved and incidences of water-borne diseases will be curtailed.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered an emergency meeting by Kaduna State stakeholders on the worsening insecurity in the state.
The meeting has two key mandates: release of the 287 schoolchildren abducted in Kuriga, Chikun Local Government and resettlement of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the state.

Lawal Adamu-Usman, who represents Kaduna Central in the Senate, made this known yesterday.

Adamu-Usman said the president ordered the meeting during a meeting he had with him at the weekend.

The Senator, who did not say when the meeting would hold, stated that traditional rulers, key government officials and representatives of Civil Society Organisations in the state are among those expected to attend.  

He explained that the planned parley would address critical areas of insecurity, especially recurring bandit attacks in the state.

 “The stakeholders meeting will also address the use of modern ways of cracking criminals, intelligence gathering community policing, among others,’’ he said.

 “Tinubu told me that we must find ways to restore security and harmonious coexistence of our people,” Adamu-Usman, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senator, added: 

On the N1 billion ransom demanded by bandits for the kidnapped schoolchildren, he said “the federal government has maintained a position that no kobo will be paid as ransom to kidnappers.”

The lawmaker called on the communities in the state to get involved in intelligence gathering. 

“We must collectively work together to end this problem, President Tinubu is serious about security, as such we should support him,” he added.

He sympathied with the families of the kidnapped students assuring that security agencies were working hard to rescue them.
