President Tinubu, Gov. Oyebanji Applaud Ondo’s Developmental Strides at 50th anniversary.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended Ondo State for its remarkable and consistent development over the past fifty years, describing the state as a shining example of steady growth and purposeful leadership in the country.

Speaking at a colourful ceremony marking the 50th anniversary of the creation of Ondo State in Akure, the state capital,  on Tuesday, President Tinubu  said Ondo has demonstrated strong dedication to the advancement of democracy and and progress, especially in the area of education, infrastructure and human capital development, adding that the state’s growth trajectory remains a source of pride to the country.

The President, who was represented by the Minister of Interior, Hon Olubunmi Tunji- Ojo,  spoke just as Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, former Governor of Ondo State, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, praised the resilience , unity, and commitment of the people of the sunshine state, noting that the state has recoded significant achievements across various sectors since its creation in 1976.

The President said: “As we celebrate the 50th anniversary of Ondo State, I hold the people of Ondo State with very high regards, I recognize the resilience, industrial and civic responsibility of Ondo people.

“During the last national election, the people of Ondo State demonstrated remarkable participation, discipline, and commitment to democratic ideals, your engagements strengthen the nation’s democracy and reinforce our believe in purposeful leadership. I deeply appreciate your support and I assure all citizens of Ondo State that my administration remains commuted to  serving Nigerians equitably”.

Also in his remarks, Governor Oyebanji, who congratulated the government and the people of Ondo State for sustaining the vision of its founding fathers, acknowledged the state’s consistency in delivering meaningful development, stressing that Ondo has continued to play a vital role in the socio-economic advancement of the South-West region and Nigeria as a whole.

The Governor noted that the progress recorded by Ondo State serves as motivation for other states to remain committed to policies and programmes that enhance the welfare and wellbeing of their citizens.

“I bring greetings from your brothers and sisters in Ekiti State, we started this journey together 50 years ago but 29 years ago we left and we are so grateful to God that Ondo is going up and up and good things are happening in Ondo State. We are so proud of the development strides that Ondo State has achieved”. The Governor asserted.

In his response, Ondo State Governor, Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who expressed deep appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other dignitaries for joining the state in celebrating its golden jubilee, described the 50th anniversary as a significant milestone that reflects the sacrifices, vision and collective efforts of the founding fathers and successive administrations that have contributed to the growth and transformation of the state.

Governor Aiyedatiwa also commended the people of Ondo State for their enduring unity, resilience and support for government initiatives over the years and urged them to continue to work together in peace and harmony, assuring that his administration remains focused on building a more prosperous, inclusive and sustainable future for the State.

While noting that Ondo State has made remarkable progress in critical sectors such as education, healthcare, infrastructure, agriculture and industrial development, the Governor further reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sustaining policies and programmes that will further improve the standard of living of residents, attract investments and create opportunities for economic prosperity across the state.

It is recalled that Ondo State, like Ogun and Oyo States, was created from the old Western Region, when the country embraced the 19- state structure in 1976. Ekiti State was carved out of the old Ondo State on October 1, 1996.

Oyebanji Tasks Ekiti Tertiary Institutions on stable academic calendar.

Oyebanji Tasks Ekiti Tertiary Institutions on stable academic calendar.

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji,  has charged state-owned universities to ensure a stable and predictable academic calendar as a critical step towards improving the quality of education and restoring public confidence in tertiary education system in the state.

Governor Oyebanji gave the charge on Monday when he  received the senior management of Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere-Ekiti (BOUESTI),  led by the newly appointed Vice Chancellor, Professor Andrew Babatunde Omojola, at the Governor’s office, Ado -Ekiti. He said  frequent disruption to academic activities usually undermine students’ learning outcome and place unnecessary burden on them as well as their parents and guardians.

The Governor noted that a stable academic calendar would not only enhance academic excellence but also make the Institution more attractive to prospective students, researchers, and development partners, adding that education remains central to his administration’s development agenda.

He urged university managements, staff, unions leaders and governing council to strengthen dialogue and embrace proactive conflict resolution mechanism to prevent avoidable strikes and prolonged closures that negatively affect students.

The Governor, however, acknowledged BOUESTI’s rising profile as one of the fastest growing state owned Universities in the country, a feat he attributed to the institution’s stable academic calendar, which, according to him, has made it attractive to students and parents.

Congratulating Prof Omojola on his appointment as the second substantive Vice-Chancellor of the University, Governor Oyebanji urged him to build on the success of his predecessor in office, Prof Adeoluwa, especially in sustaining the stable academic calendar for which the school is well respected.

The Governor, who noted that the Vice-Chancellor’s appointment was strictly on merit, expressed confidence in his capacity to consolidate on the existing achievements and further strengthen academic excellence, institutional ability and global competitiveness.

Oyebanji said his administration would continue to invest in infrastructure, staff welfare and institutional reforms that would make the institution globally competitive and comparable with the world’s best universities.

“I am so much happy with what is happening in BOUESTI, I am very proud of the achievements that have been recorded so far.

“Let me use this opportunity to express my gratitude to other management staff for your corporation and understanding and to the unions and students for being responsible, at least we have managed to have a peaceful atmosphere in the University and one thing that is responsible for your growth is because you have a stable academic calendar. Students know  that when they come to BOUESTI, they will spend four years for a four-year course, and five years for a five-year course, that is why they are rushing to the institution. So, whatever it is going to cost you please make sure  that tradition remains unbroken”, The Governor asserted.

Earlier in his remarks, the New Vice-Chancellor, Prof Andrew Babatunde Omojola expressed profound appreciation to the Governor for his appointment. Noting that the university’s achievements were largely due to the huge support, visionary leadership and genuine commitment of the Governor toward the development of education in the state.

Highlighting his agenda for the university, Prof Omojola, who said he met the Governor for the very first time some days after his appointment was announced, said his vision is to ensure BOUESTI is ranked among the top ten universities in the country, ranked among the top 100 in Africa, and listed among  the top 1,000 universities globally. These, he said would be achieved through sustained academic excellence, research innovation and institutional stability.

Also at the meeting were, Secretary to the State Government, Prof Habibat Adubiaro, Chief of Staff, Mr Niyi Adebayo, Commissioner for Education, Dr (Mrs) Olabimpe Aderiye, Special Adviser, Tertiary Education, Prof Akeem Azeez; Special Adviser Media, Mr Yinka Oyebode, among others

Civic Obligations Remain A Fundamental Responsibility Of Every Staff, Mrs Akinbobola.

Civic Obligations Remain A  Fundamental Responsibility Of Every  Staff, Mrs Akinbobola.
By Asubiojo G .O

Mrs Akinbobola Deborah-Bosede, the Administrative and Accounting Officer  of Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government,  has strongly and logically underscored the importance of responsible citizenship alongside professional service. She noted that beyond being discreet, honest, punctual, diligent, relevant, and forthright in the discharge of official duties—which constitute the foundation of staff livelihood and institutional relevance—civil servants must also recognize that these virtues align with societal values and contribute meaningfully to their moral and civic consciousness.

Mrs. Akinbobola made this assertion while addressing Directors and Officers during the regular Monday morning staff gathering and Administrative Management Meeting, where she encouraged staff to actively engage in civic responsibilities expected of them by government and society.

According to her, participation in civic processes is a clear demonstration of patriotism, accountability, and commitment to the collective progress of the state and the nation at large. She further urged staff to take deliberate interest in the democratic process by contributing to the emergence of focused, dynamic, and people-oriented leadership, stressing that civic engagement strengthens governance and reinforces public trust.

In this regard, she encouraged all eligible staff to participate in the ongoing civic registration exercise in Ekiti State as a lawful and responsible step toward affirming their relevance as good citizens and stakeholders in governance. She stated that such involvement reflects appreciation and support for the administration of His Excellency, Governor Oyebanji Abayomi, whose responsive leadership has continued to address the welfare and official needs of civil servants within Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government, and the local government service cum State civil service in Ekiti State, while also extending lawful civic support to Honourable Oluwatuyi Oluwagbenga, fondly known as CHENCO, in the forthcoming civic engagements within the state, in June and December, this year.

Mrs. Akinbobola further charged staff to remain committed to continuous self-development through further academic pursuits, emphasizing that personal growth, professional competence, and civic responsibility are interconnected pillars for career advancement, institutional integrity, and sustainable public service delivery.

SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT ON EKITI STATE’S 2026 PRIMARY HEALTH CARE BUDGET.

SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT ON EKITI STATE’S 2026 PRIMARY HEALTH CARE BUDGET.
…Why the ₦68m Claim Misses the Point.

Claims circulating on social media that Ekiti State budgeted only ₦68 million for primary health care (PHC) in 2026 are false and misleading.
They present a distorted picture of health financing in the state and ignore both the structure of the budget and the scale of actual investments made over recent years.
The ₦68 million being quoted refers to one narrow capital budget line item under PHC.
It does not represent total PHC funding, total health funding, or the resources available to primary health care through insurance, personnel costs, donor-supported programmes, or local government spending.
For the avoidance of doubt, Primary Health Care (PHC) is primarily the responsibility of the Local Government Areas (LGAs), though in practice it operates under a shared, tripartite responsibility structure involving local, state, and federal governments.
The LGs are responsible for the day-to-day management, implementation, and maintenance of PHC centers. They manage the clinics, staff, and provision of basic services such as immunizations, maternal/child care, and health education.

The State Government Coordinates PHC implementation within the state through the State Primary Health Care Development Agency. They are responsible for supervision, setting up the framework, and supporting local governments with personnel and infrastructure.

What the 2026 budget actually shows
Health financing in Ekiti State is spread across multiple agencies and funding streams. In the 2026 budget, the total allocation to the health sector is ₦19.65 billion, covering institutions such as:
• Ministry of Health
• Primary Health Care Development Agency
• Ekiti State Health Insurance Scheme (EKHIS)
• Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital
• Hospitals Management Board
• Drugs and Health Supplies Management Agency
• State Agency for the Control of AIDS
When all health-sector votes are considered together, over ₦2 billion is allocated to primary health care in the 2026 budget alone. This amount excludes state investments in the social determinants of health, such as water and sanitation, which are spread across other Ministries. The selective focus on ₦68 million is therefore a misrepresentation of the same budget document. The 2026 health budget will enable the state build on the gains already made and accelerate our goal of achieving Universal Health Coverage by 2030.
What was actually spent
Budgets tell only part of the story. Actual spending shows clearer government priorities:
In 2025, Ekiti State spent over ₦33.7 billion on health, with more than half invested in primary health care.
Major drivers included Ulerawa health insurance payments under EKHIS, renovation of 103 PHCs, commodity procurement, and health worker incentivisation through the World Bank supported IMPACT Project.
Health sector spending in earlier years was also substantial: ₦16.8bn (2024), ₦8.7bn (2023), and ₦25.8bn (2022).
To suggest that ₦68 million reflects the state’s commitment to PHC is therefore demonstrably incorrect.

Investment in health workers
Primary health care depends on people, not just buildings:
250 health workers were recruited in 2025, with 150 deployed directly to PHCs. In addition, 300 community health vanguards were recruited to line list every pregnant woman, map them to primary health facilities, and follow up till delivery.
Approval has also been secured for the replacement of over 1,500 health workers, costing ₦1.8 billion annually, most of whom serve at the primary care level.
Rising utilisation and public trust
Service use is one of the strongest indicators of system performance:
• Outpatient visits increased from 1.14 million in 2023 to 2.17 million in 2025.
• 1.85 million of these visits occurred in primary health care facilities.
• 722,025 residents are enrolled under the Ulerawa Free Health Insurance Scheme.
In 2025 alone:
• 10,935 deliveries were conducted free of charge
• 200,369 children were immunised
• 104,278 pregnant women received antenatal care
Impact on health outcomes
Through state funding, insurance, and the IMPACT Project:
• Over 736,000 malaria tests and 591,000 treatments were provided free
• Preventive services reached more than 116,000 pregnant women
These investments have contributed to large reductions in child and maternal mortality across the state.
Conclusion
The claim that Ekiti State budgeted only ₦68 million for primary health care is factually wrong. The evidence shows sustained investment, expanded services, improved staffing, rising utilisation, and better health outcomes.
Public debate on health is important, but it must be grounded in facts. Ekiti State’s health sector record reflects progress and commitment, not neglect, and it deserves to be discussed truthfully.

POLITICS WITHOUT BITTERNESS WILL STRENGTHEN DEMOCRACY IN NIGERIA, SAYS OYEBANJI.

POLITICS WITHOUT BITTERNESS WILL STRENGTHEN DEMOCRACY IN NIGERIA, SAYS OYEBANJI.
…. As Sam O.matseye examines “democracy” at OAU lecture.

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, has canvassed entrenchment of politics without bitterness to ensure a more virile, stronger and lasting democracy that will deliver quality governance to Nigerians.

As Ekiti State gears up for the conduct of governorship election in June and as Nigeria inches nearer to the general elections in 2027, Oyebanji enjoined political actors not to turn elections to war, adding that winner-takes-all mentality should be discouraged.

The Governor made the remarks on Thursday at the Faculty of Arts Distinguished Alumni Lecture at the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile Ife. He noted that politics of inclusion being practised by his administration has added value to governance and engendered peace in Ekiti State as widely acknowledged.

The OAU Faculty of Arts Distinguished Alumni Lecture chaired by Governor Oyebanji and also attended by his Osun State counterpart, Senator Ademola Adeleke was delivered by the Chairman, Editorial Board of The Nation Newspapers, Mr Sam Omatseye who graduated from the university with a bachelor's degree in History in 1985.

Addressing gathering in his capacity as the chairman of the lecture titled: "How to Make a Democrat", Governor Oyebanji used the forum to advocate a political culture that promotes consensus building, cooperation, inclusion, decent public conduct, willingness to play by the rules and magnanimity in both electoral victories or losses.

Describing consensus building as strength and not weakness, the Ekiti helmsman further canvassed the need to always defuse public rhetoric with conciliatory and peaceable communication as such will help reduce resort to violence and other anti-democratic practices.

While admitting that democracy is a tough job anywhere in the world as it is always characterized by plurality, contestations, group conspiracies, clash of interests and power struggle, Oyebanji said the capacity to manage differences remain the major challenge that many democratic nations continue to confront.

Drawing from his experience as a player in the Ekiti political arena for about 30 years, Oyebanji charged stakeholders in democracy to play politics of inclusion which, he noted, is on full display in the Ekiti, a de elopement he said has continued to make the state peaceful under his leadership.

He said: "Election does not have to be war, and winners do not have to take all.
As a person who has been actively involved in the politics of Ekiti from 1997, passing through all the facets and the phases of its evolution, the singular lesson I have learnt is that raw power, politics of exclusion and political intolerance is a recipe for instability and rancour.

"It is for this reason that I am persuaded by the principle of politics without bitterness. Upon my assumption of office as Governor, I deliberately chose to reach out to all the differing political tendencies in Ekiti both intra-party and inter-party through inclusion, respect and solidarity.

"This approach was initially met with resistance and skepticism by majority of my party members but gradually, they became receptive. Today, I am glad to state that Ekiti which used to be notorious for troubling political crises some years ago, is, today, one of the most politically stable and monolithic in Nigeria.

"I believe we should be deliberate in building a political culture that is based on the character of our Omoluabi ethos. We cannot afford to promote extreme political point of views that create fractures and stalled development. This is more so, if one considers our current stage of socioeconomic and political development."

Commending the lecturer, Mr Sam Omatseye, for the brilliant lecture, Oyebanji also hailed Omatseye's contribution to journalism, public discourse, social commentary, intellectual engagement and poetry describing him as "a
distinguished alumnus by all standard that every University would be proud to have."

Osun Governor Adeleke who was represented by the Commissioner for Education, Mr Dipo Eluwole, commended the faculty for organizing the lecture which he described as a platform that speaks to values of citizenship and scholarship.

He pledged the readiness of the Osun State government to always invest in education in general and also support tertiary education which he identified as the bedrock of the nation's manpower development.

Omatseye, in the lecture titled “How to make a Democrat”, stressed the need to make a distinction between a republic and a democracy with many countries calling themselves democracies despite not practising its tenets and ethos.

Omatseye said: "Countries often call themselves democracies. A republic installs an infrastructure of mediation between the people and state. Democracy is idealist; so there is no real democracy, including the United States.

He described the opportunity to deliver the distinguished Alumni Lecture as a fulfilling privilege for him which offered him an avenue return to his alma mater to share his thoughts on issues of democracy and governance.

Omatseye, who cited many historical and contemporary instances, submitted that many nations merely lay claim to the practice of democracy without an iota of respect for the tenets of democracy.

He cited the recent American invasion of Venezuela, a sovereign country and the “abduction” of its president to the US.

“If the United States is the number one democracy in the world, then by implication, it means its President should be the number one democrat in the entire World. He then wondered why and how the in invasion of Venezuela and the abduction of its president align with democracy.

Omatseye concluded that democracy is more of an idealism. According to him, countries often call themselves democracies. A republic installs an infrastructure of mediation between the people and the state. Democracy pretends there is none.

“Democracy is idealist. There is no real democracy, including the United States. All who operates in republics call themselves democrats. So, if democracy is aspirational why should the democrat be perfect?

“In our own case, it is because the democrat has always been half-born. To have a democrat in full, they must be allowed to grow with all their witch facts and beauties . Too many ingr die ya made a democrat. The most important one is often not canvassed by scholars. It is called time”, he concluded.

In attendance at the lecture, which took place at the Oduduwa Hall of the OAU were the Osun State Governor, who was represented by the Commissioner for Education, Mr Dipo Eluwole; Asiwaju Bola Oyebamiji, Govermorship candidate of the APC Osun State; Secretary to Ekiti State Government, Prof Habibat Adubiaro; Chief of Staff, Mr Niyi Adebayo; Commisisoner for Education, Dr Olabimpe Aderiye; Special Adviser Tertiary Education, Prof Akeem Azeez; Special Adviser Office of Transformation and Service Delivery, Dr John Ekundayo; Special Adviser on Media and Startegy, Mr Yinka Oyebode and Director General office of Community Communications, Mrs Mary Oso- Omotoso and representatives of youth and students organisations from Ekiti State.

...Oluwatuyi Sponsors JAMB Forms for Qualified Students Across Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government.
By: Asubiojo G. O

As part of his outstanding and consistently remarkable commitment to uplifting the less privileged—particularly in the critical sector of education—Honourable Oluwatuyi Oluwagbenga (popularly known as CHENCO) has once again demonstrated purposeful leadership and compassionate governance.

Renowned for his educational interventions across Igede Ekiti and Awo Ekiti, Honourable Oluwatuyi has taken another bold, inspirational, and intellectually driven step by sponsoring fifty JAMB registration forms for exceptionally brilliant students within Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government who, despite excelling academically in a single sitting of WAEC or NECO, are constrained by financial challenges.

This initiative is deliberately targeted at students who have proven academic excellence but face economic barriers that could truncate their dreams of higher education. By easing this burden, Honourable Oluwatuyi is not merely paying fees—he is investing in destinies, unlocking possibilities, and rewriting futures.

Speaking on the motivation behind this laudable gesture, the Chairman , with logical reasoning emphasize.
"no child should be denied the opportunity to pursue higher education due to financial limitations, especially when such a child has demonstrated outstanding academic capability".

Honourable Oluwatuyi further charged the beneficiaries to justify this rare privilege by committing themselves wholeheartedly to academic excellence. He urged them to study diligently, read all prescribed JAMB texts, stay focused, avoid distractions, and strive for the highest possible scores, reminding them that opportunity meets preparation only when effort is sustained.
“This support is a bridge,” he noted, “but you must cross it with determination, discipline, and excellence."
One of the beneficiaries, master Akinola, was full of praises for the giant stride of the chairman, saying "This support has given me hope and the confidence to aim higher"

Indeed, this initiative stands as yet another testament to visionary leadership rooted in compassion, intelligence, and long-term impact. It reflects a deep understanding that the most sustainable investment any leader can make is in education—because when you educate a child, you empower a generation.

EKSG presents breakdown of 2026 budget, unveils major sectoral allocation.
…as state’s GDP for 2026 is projected at N8.8trillion.

Ekiti State Government, on Wednesday, presented the analysis of the ₦415.572billion 2026 Budget of impactful Governance affirming a projection of 8.8trillion naira Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for the year.

Presenting the highlights of the budget to a cross section of government officials, financial experts and media representatives at Jibowu Hall, Government House, Ado-Ekiti, the State’s Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Mr Femi Ajayi, stressed that the budget is expected to strengthen the State’s economy through key strategic interventions in the agriculture, arts, education, infrastructure and tourism and the informal sectors. He added that it signalled the administration's commitment to prudent fiscal management and  implementation of economic reforms essential for unlocking the potentials and opportunities of the economy.

While noting that the budget was prepared in consonance with the 2026-2028 MTEF and 30 years Development plan, Ajayi explained that MTEF enables the Government to efficiently allocate available resources rationally towards the completion of projects within a medium-term period as it contains the key parameters and other macroeconomic projections driving the medium-term revenue and expenditure framework which were estimated based on emergent realities with a ceiling of ₦570,048,520,552.00 for the projected year.

He added that the fiscal document contains the blueprints to achieve the administration’s vision of Shared Prosperity by adopting zero-Based Budgeting approach and focuses essentially on the completion of all on-going projects to improve the economy.

The Commissioner disclosed that the revenue to finance the 2026 budget would be sourced from the state revenue estimate for the year including, the federal allocation, 30%, Value Added Tax (VAT) 19%, Grants from Domestic and Foreign Development partners 29%, State Independent revenue, 11%, and loan from domestic or foreign borrowing 2%.

While adding that the recurrent expenditure of the budget would be distributed into personnel cost (28%); overhead cost, 28%; grants and subsidy, 18%; debt servicing, 0.2% among others, the commissioner also highlighted the capital expenditure allocation by sector to include economic, 72%; administrative, 13%; social. 14% and law and justice, 1%. Ajayi also revealed that the capital expenditure based on the six pillars of the administration include governance, 9%; agriculture and rural development, 22%; arts, culture and tourism, 1%; youth development and job creation, 2%; human capital development, 9% and infrastructure and industrial development, 57%.

Ajayi reaffirmed the commitment of the Biodun Abayomi  Oyebanji administration’s  commitment to fiscal accountability and transparency to achieve fiscal sustainability and macro-fiscal objectives of government.

He said government remains committed to sustainable growth and development, aimed at improving the well-being of the people by providing safety nets to cushion the impact of any reform measures on the vulnerable segments of the population.

He added  that through the Six Pillars, the present administration will sustain the philosophy of shared prosperity as well as ensure that all sectors of the economy would be addressed within the ambit of the available resources.

Earlier in his remarks, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr Niyi Adebayo, commended Governor Oyebanji for providing the necessary impetus that has assisted the state at ensuring unbridled development to the state through various people-friendly reforms and programmes.

Adebayo said the success of the past budgets under the administration was hinged on the government’s policy of inclusivity through responsible and responsive governance, promotion of fiscal transparency and accountability essential to the shared prosperity agenda of government.

Hon. Ibrahim Kunle Olanrewaju, the Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on National Assembly Matters and former representative of the constituency, has condemned the recent abduction of five women in Erinmope-Ekiti, describing it as a "deeply distressing assault on humanity."

In a formal statement released to the public, Hon. Olanrewaju expressed his heartfelt sympathies to the Okanlawon family. He emphasized that the abduction of a nursing mother and a woman in the final stages of pregnancy is an attack on the very fabric of the community. "No family should have to endure the trauma of seeing their home invaded and loved ones spirited away into the wilderness," he stated, acknowledging the profound pain felt by Muhammad Saliu Okanlawon and his entire household.

Drawing from his experience as a leader who has served at both the grassroots of this constituency and the highest levels of federal legislative engagement, Hon. Olanrewaju viewed the incident with the utmost gravity. While commending the swift initial response of the Nigeria Police Force, Civil Defence, and the Amotekun Corps, he stressed the urgent need to intensify intelligence-gathering efforts. He specifically highlighted suspicions that the assailants may be mingling within the community to evade capture, calling for a sophisticated, community-policing approach to smoke them out.

Hon. Olanrewaju reaffirmed that the administrations of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji remain resolutely committed to the safety of every resident in Nigeria and Ekiti State respectively. He noted that the protection of lives and property remains the primary purpose of governance and will not be compromised.

Furthermore, he urged members of the community to remain vigilant and act as their brother’s keeper by coming forward with any information regarding the whereabouts of Kehinde, Adijat, Hawawu, and the two Fatimas. Offering a message of hope, he prayed for the strength of those in captivity and the divine protection of the expectant and nursing mothers. He vowed that the government would not remain silent while citizens are used as pawns for greed, standing in total solidarity with the people of Moba Local Government to ensure the victims are returned safely and that such "strange incidents" do not become a recurring nightmare in the state.

ALLEGED COLLECTION OF ARTWORKS: MR. ABEJIDE’S MISREPRESENTATION OF FACTS.

ALLEGED COLLECTION OF ARTWORKS: MR. ABEJIDE’S MISREPRESENTATION OF FACTS.

The attention of the Ekiti State Ministry of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy has been drawn to a recent publication by Sahara Reporters, containing allegations credited to Mr. Abejide, an Ekiti-based artist, concerning the alleged collection of his artworks by the former First Lady of Ekiti State, Her Excellency, Erelu Bisi Fayemi.

The Ministry considers it necessary to set the record straight by stating the verified facts of the matter.

The art exhibition in question was generously sponsored by Her Excellency, Erelu Bisi Fayemi, and was held at Adetiloye Hall, Ado-Ekiti, from 14th to 17th October, 2020.

On 16th October, 2020, Erelu Fayemi visited the exhibition venue, where she awarded monetary gifts to ten (10) artists whose works were adjudged outstanding.
During the visit, Erelu Fayemi expressed interest in two artworks by Mr. Abejide and requested that he bring the works to her office after the conclusion of the exhibition for the purpose of purchase.

No artwork was collected from Mr. Abejide at the venue, nor was any negotiation made with Mr Abejide for his works. The exhibition formally ended in the evening of 17th October, 2020.

Contrary to expectations, Mr. Abejide neither delivered the artworks to the former First Lady’s office nor handed them over to any designated official or representative. Instead, he left the artworks unattended in the exhibition hall and vacated the venue without notifying anyone or making further contact.

At no point did Erelu Bisi Fayemi purchase or take possession of any artwork belonging to Mr. Abejide.

While an intention to purchase was clearly expressed, the necessary follow-up actions—delivery of the artworks and negotiation of prices—were never undertaken by the artist. Indeed, Mr. Abejide did not negotiate or communicate the prices of the artworks to anyone.
When questioned regarding his recent claims however, Mr. Abejide reportedly stated that he merely assumed that staff of the former First Lady would return to the exhibition venue days later to collect the artworks.

The Ministry finds this assumption unfounded and illogical, as no prior communication, authorization, or arrangement was made to that effect.

It is therefore misleading and unjustifiable for Mr. Abejide, six years after the event, to attribute blame to the former First Lady for circumstances arising from his own inaction. The allegations, as published, are a clear misrepresentation of facts. The Ministry considers them malicious and a calculated attempt to unfairly malign the person and office of Her Excellency, Erelu Bisi Fayemi, who is a great lover and supporter of Arts.

It is very troubling that Sahara Reporters could  publish these allegations without due verification, thereby giving currency to an unfounded narrative against the former First Lady.

While urging Sahara Reporters to uphold the principles of responsible journalism by not always being too quick to besmirch people's reputation and by going further to correct the record in line with the facts stated above, the Ministry urges members of the public to disregard the false narrative and rely on the verified facts as hereby presented.

Reduction in prices of food commodities in Ekiti, testament to Oyebanji's impactful interventions - Agric commissioner.

Reduction in prices of food commodities in Ekiti, testament to Oyebanji's impactful interventions - Agric commissioner.

Ekiti State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Ebenezer Boluwade, has attributed the reduction in prices of food commodities in the state to Governor Biodun Oyebanji's impactful interventions in the agric sector.

Boluwade said that the state is making tangible progress towards food security and that the state government's interventions are beginning to stabilise markets and reduction of food prices.

The commissioner stated this, on Tuesday, in Ado-Ekiti, during the interactive S'etigbo multicast, anchored by the Bureau of Community Communications.

According to him, "A lot has happened and we have data to support some of the impacts. The market is also getting a positive response and we have been having the slowest prices in food items for the past three or four months. This shows that our productivity is also increasing, food items are available and very well secured."

He revealed that the state government has cleared over 5,000 hectares of land to support local farmers including subsidy of essential agricultural products adding that these efforts are geared towards transforming the agricultural sector from a primarily subsistence model to an export-driven industry.

He explained that in recognition of the state’s progress, the Federal Government has designated Ekiti as an agro-processing zone, a move that promises to further boost the local economy.

The commissioner emphasised that the partnership between the state government and higher institutions in the state is aimed at fostering research and innovation in agriculture, creating job opportunities for young people by clearing thousands of hectares of land for farming and facilitating a sustainable job market for youth in the state.

The Agric commissioner said that the state is actively encouraging young people to venture into agriculture, with specific investments in poultry farming adding that it has already resulted in the establishment of nine poultry centers across the state, with plans to expand to two more.

Why Cavista Holdings’ Investment in Matna Foods Matters for Nigeria’s Cassava Economy.

Why Cavista Holdings’ Investment in Matna Foods Matters for Nigeria’s Cassava Economy.

The recent acquisition of Matna Foods Company Limited by Agbeyewa Industries Limited, an agribusiness subsidiary of Cavista Holdings, represents a strategic intervention in Nigeria’s cassava value chain—one that goes beyond ownership change to address long-standing structural gaps in production, processing, and industrial utilization.

Cassava is one of Nigeria’s most abundant and strategic crops, yet the sector has historically suffered from weak integration between farming and processing, leading to inefficiencies, post-harvest losses, and limited value capture for farmers.

Cavista Holdings’ investment in Matna Foods is designed to help close this gap by linking large-scale cassava cultivation with established industrial processing capacity, creating a more resilient and efficient value chain.

Through Agbeyewa, which operates Nigeria’s largest cassava farm, Cavista Holdings has built a strong production base and an innovative in-grower/out-grower scheme that brings thousands of farmers into a reliable, well-organised supply network.

Matna Foods brings over two decades of processing experience and technical expertise in producing international-standard cassava starch for food and industrial use. Together, they form an integrated platform capable of stabilising supply, expanding processing capacity and reducing reliance on imports.

Chairman of Cavista Holdings, Mr. Niyi John Olajide, said the investment reflects its long-term approach to value creation:
“Cavista Holdings has a strong history of identifying under-utilised or distressed assets and repositioning them for sustainable growth. The iconic Ikogosi Warm Springs Resort, (which was transformed from an abandoned resort into the best holiday resort in Nigeria) is proof of our ability.  Our investment in Matna Foods follows this same discipline strengthening capacity, improving efficiency, and creating jobs, jobs, jobs.
This is how we build businesses that deliver real economic impact while supporting food security and industrial development.”

Beyond processing, the acquisition is expected to have a direct impact on farmers by increasing cassava offtake, providing more predictable demand, and strengthening rural livelihoods, especially for smallholder and out-grower farmers across the Southwest.

Importantly, Matna Foods remains fully operational and open for business, with plans underway to scale capacity, modernise operations where required, and deepen engagement with farmers, suppliers, and industrial customers.

For Cavista Holdings, the transaction reinforces a consistent investment thesis: that well-structured capital, strong execution, and long-term vision can unlock value in critical sectors—and that business, when done right, remains a force for good.

Oyebanji receives DG Law School, urges stakeholders involvement in infrastructure development.

Oyebanji receives DG Law School, urges stakeholders involvement in infrastructure development.

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji has assured the management of the Nigerian Law School of his administration’s commitment to effective collaboration in its effort to strengthen infrastructure development in its campuses.

Governor Oyebanji, who stated this on Monday while receiving the management of the Nigerian Law School, led by its Director General, Dr Olugbemisola Titilayo Odusote, stressed the need for strategic collaboration between the institution and various stakeholders including State Governments, private sector players and alumni associations of the institution to drive development.

The Governor expressed the state’s appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the appointment an illustrious Ekiti daughter to such an exalted position, urged Dr Odusote to leverage on the various stakeholders in the drive to reposition the institution for improved service delivery and better infrastructure across its campuses nationwide.

He commended the Director General for exhibiting the Ekiti virtues of competence, integrity and character, urging her to bring all that to bear in her service to the institution and drive development that will leave a lasting legacy.

Governor Oyebanji assured the management of the institution of the state government’s continued support for the new management.

“I have no doubt in my mind that it is the Ekiti virtues of competence, integrity, character and diligence that has taken you this far. I have listened to you and one thing i can assure you is that we are in this together. We are ready to collaborate with you and we’ll do everything humanly possible to ensure that you succeed and live a lasting legacy.

“The Law School is so critical to national development because the quality of lawyers you turn out have a direct impact on the tone of law and order in the country and the administration of justice itself.

“And I'm talking to my colleagues, to the other governors, to see if we can collaboratively do something about the law school and we will do that. I also want to suggest that in addition to what we can do, the Law School should also leverage on collaboration with the private sector. You know, you have a lot of product all over the country and they are doing well.

“I think there should be a structure to collaborate with the private sector to see if they can, as a form of Corporate Social Responsibility, take on some of these projects, and they can brand it in their own colour. You also have to look into your alumni association. It's a great resource, because I have a lot of friends that are lawyers and that are going great, and they went through this school and if you don’t ask them for help, they will not come to you. So there must be a structure to pull your best resources together and ensure that they give back to the law school. He stated.

Earlier, the Director-General, Dr Odusote thanked Governor Oyebanji for his encouragement and support and for the exciting manner the state celebrated her her appointment as DG of the Nigerian Law School. She and assured that she will do all within her best not to disappoint her well-wishers.

Ekiti approves three new hospitals to expand healthcare access.
By Abiodun Nejo

The Ekiti State Government has said the recent approval for the construction and equipping of three new general hospitals across parts of the state is aimed at improving access to quality healthcare delivery.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr Oyebanji Filani, who identified the benefiting communities as Awo Ekiti, Ikogosi Ekiti, and Ipao Ekiti, reaffirmed the commitment of the Governor Biodun Oyebanji administration to sustaining the strengthening of the health sector.

Filani spoke on Saturday at Ipao Ekiti in the Ajoni Local Council Development Area while inspecting the site of the proposed general hospital ahead of the commencement of construction of the secondary healthcare facility.

According to the commissioner, “The hospital was strategically located, considering the large-scale agro-processing activities in Ipao-Ekiti and its neighbouring communities.

“You will recall that the state government recently approved the establishment of three new general hospitals in Awo, Ikogosi and Ipao-Ekiti, as part of efforts to strengthen the health sector and ensure adequate healthcare delivery for residents.

“The initiative is also aimed at positioning the state’s health system as a model of excellence in the country.

“The administration has been constructing or reconstructing and equipping healthcare facilities across the state to enhance citizens’ access to quality healthcare delivery.”

In his remarks, a community leader and Chairman of the Ekiti State Local Government Service Commission, Chief Alaba Abejide, commended the Oyebanji administration for its projects in the past three years, particularly those focused on improving the health and well-being of residents.

The Chairman of Ajoni LCDA, Mr Michael Ogungbemi, also praised the governor for locating the health facility in the community, describing it as “a timely and well-deserved project that will serve Ipao-Ekiti and the entire north-eastern part of the state”.

Similarly, the Obanla of Ipao Ekiti, Oba Williams Ehinmodupin, assured the government of the community’s support and urged residents to continue backing the Oyebanji-led administration to attract more development projects.

Filani had earlier expressed the government’s readiness to expand access to quality healthcare services, particularly for women and children.

Speaking during the final interview for prospective National Health Fellows, a Federal Government initiative aimed at improving service delivery, the commissioner said the state would sustain the gains recorded in the health sector in the New Year.

He also assured that the government would prioritise the completion of ongoing healthcare infrastructure projects across the state
