The Executive Chairman of Irepodun-Ifelodun Local Government, Hon. Gbenga Oluwatuyi, has called for the deployment of more security personnel to the council area, citing the need for enhanced policing due to its expansive terrain and numerous gazetted villages.

Oluwatuyi made this appeal while receiving the newly appointed Commissioner of Police for Ekiti State, CP Joseph Eriboh, who paid a courtesy visit to assess the security framework of the local government. The meeting, held at the Chairman’s Conference Hall in Igede-Ekiti, brought together key stakeholders, including councillors, supervisors, and top government officials.

Welcoming the commissioner, Oluwatuyi expressed appreciation for the commitment of the state police command in maintaining peace and security across Ekiti. He commended the efforts of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) overseeing Irepodun-Ifelodun, acknowledging the prompt response of officers to distress calls.

“The police in our local government have been doing a great job, and we sincerely appreciate their dedication. However, as a council with many gazetted villages, we require a stronger police presence to effectively cover every part of our domain. This will go a long way in ensuring the safety and security of our residents,” he said.

The chairman emphasized the importance of police-community engagement, stating that a good relationship between law enforcement and local authorities would foster a safer environment for businesses and residents.

In his response, CP Eriboh lauded Irepodun-Ifelodun as one of the most peaceful local government areas in Ekiti, assuring that the police command would sustain efforts to maintain law and order.

“I must commend the leadership of this local government for its unwavering support of our officers. Security is a collective responsibility, and we will continue to collaborate with all stakeholders to ensure the safety of lives and property,” the police commissioner stated.

He further stressed the need for continuous training and capacity-building for police personnel to improve their operational efficiency. According to him, enhanced training would empower officers to respond effectively to emerging security challenges.

The meeting concluded with prayers for the commissioner, Governor Biodun Oyebanji, and the entire local government, seeking divine guidance for the continued peace and progress of Ekiti State.

Among those present were the acting Head of Local Government Administration, directors, special assistants to the chairman, and other key stakeholders.

CP Eriboh’s visit marks a renewed partnership between the Ekiti State Police Command and local government authorities, reinforcing the commitment to community-driven policing in Irepodun-Ifelodun.
