Nigeria's Vice President Kashim Shettima reaffirmed the country's dedication to strengthening partnerships with China and other African nations during his participation at the BRICS Summit. Representing President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Shettima emphasized Nigeria's commitment to achieving mutual benefits through collaboration with China.

Addressing a prominent audience, including Chinese President Xi Jinping and various African leaders, Vice President Shettima discussed the theme "Promoting African Integration and Jointly Building a High-Level Africa-China Community with a Shared Future." He praised the innovative initiatives introduced by China, which focused on advancing Africa's agriculture, agribusiness, regional integration, industrialization, and infrastructure expansion.

The Vice President applauded the alignment between these initiatives and Nigeria's national development agenda, the African Union's Agenda 2063, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 2030. He highlighted the significance of these cooperative efforts in fostering economic prosperity and raising the Africa-China strategic partnership to unprecedented heights.

Vice President Shettima underscored the importance of tailored solutions that consider local circumstances and promote African ownership of the initiatives. He also stressed the need to secure financing for critical areas, including infrastructure projects such as Farm-to-Market Corridors, Railway Networks, Road Upgrades, Airports, and Power Generation.

Speaking about Nigeria's engagement with the Global South, the Vice President highlighted the country's commitment to addressing challenges such as climate change, security threats, youth unemployment, and natural disasters. He expressed the opportunity for collective problem-solving and closer cooperation among partners.

During the meeting, Chinese President Xi Jinping assured African leaders of China's support for Africa's industrialization and agricultural modernization through new initiatives. The discussions aimed to enhance collaboration and strengthen ties between the two regions.

Accompanied by Nigeria's High Commissioner to South Africa and other senior government officials, Vice President Shettima's presence at the summit highlighted Nigeria's determination to foster enduring partnerships with China and fellow African nations. The commitment demonstrated by Nigeria underscores the importance of cross-regional cooperation in addressing shared challenges and achieving sustainable development goals.
