Sasere Festival 2024: Chief Faleye Celebrates Egungun Festivity Amidst Funfair.



The Chief Olatunbosun David Faleye, The Sasere of Igede Ekiti Kingdom, recently celebrated the esteemed Egungun Sasere traditional festival. This annual event, held in Igede-Ekiti, headquarters of Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government of Ekiti State, Nigeria, showcases the rich cultural heritage of the kingdom.

The Sasere Festival spanned three days, packed with diverse activities. The first day began with the traditional feast of roasted yam with palm oil (Isu sunsun pelu epo pupa), accompanied by vibrant drumming and dancing around the town. This signaled the commencement of the festival. On the second day, sacrifices were offered to Ogun, Esu, Ifa, Obatala, Oranmiyan, Ake, Osun, and Elemi. This included the killing of dogs for Ogun, male goats and hens for Esu Lanroye, and a big pig and hen for Ifa. The rituals were accompanied by chanting and rendering of eulogies (Oriki) with energetic dancing to the rhythm of agogo ilu.


The third day was the climax of the festival. Egungun Sasere descended from Oke-Esu, moving to Ege Inisa Compound to seek permission before proceeding to the town. The revered masquerade then visited Onigede Palace to bless His Royal Majesty Oba James Adelusi Aladesuru II JP, "Petu Bi Owuro", The Onigede of Igede Ekiti Kingdom. The Egungun was assured of blessings and progress for Igede-Ekiti's sons and daughters by the powerful Mighty of Eledumare. Egungun Sasere subsequently processed through Igede-Ekiti metropolis, bestowing blessings upon individuals, particularly those seeking fertility and solutions to challenges.



Chief Olatunbosun David Faleye, The Sasere of Igede Ekiti Kingdom, expressed heartfelt gratitude to sons and daughters of Igede Ekiti, friends, and well-wishers who attended the festival. He wished them safe travels and looked forward to the next year's celebration. With the festival's success, the kingdom eagerly anticipates another year of prosperity and blessings. _Aku Odun, Aku Iyedun!_ (Happy Festival, Happy Year!)

The Director, Bureau of Local Content, Ekiti State, Olalekan Ijidale has revealed that government will engage indigenous artisans and suppliers registered under the office for the proposed urban renewal project in Atikankan area of Ado Ekiti.


Speaking with newsmen in Ado Ekiti, the DG affirmed that such plans were part of strategies by Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji to give the people sense of belongs and boost the economy of the state. His Excellency, the Governor of Ekiti state has directed that the Local artisans and private sector should be given priority in the project


He noted that the era of importing artisans from  other African countries to carry out projects is gone.


He said: the clearing of Atikankan recently is to give room for the construction of another ultra modern trade park and such would be done by Ekiti people.

"I want to assure artisans and suppliers who have registered with us to deliver a good job if engaged,  we are going to make use of our people for this project.


When you give job to our youths, you are indirectly promoting local economy and shifting their attention away from crime.

Ijidale however called on skilled workers in Ekiti State to make themselves available and also deliver every project assign to them diligently so as to justify the confidence of government in them.


He noted that government would continue to create enabling environment for entrepreneurs and skilled workers to operate successfully.

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji has sworn-in Justice Lekan Ogunmoye as the Acting Chief Judge of the state. He replaces the late Chief Judge, Justice Oyewole Adeyeye who passed on November 4th, 2024.

The Governor, who performed the swearing-in formalities at a brief but solemn ceremony, at the Conference Room, Governor’s Office, Ado-Ekiti on Monday, affirmed that the inauguration had to take place in order to sustain judicial services, stressing that nature abhors vacuum. 


The inauguration, according to the Governor was in accordance with the powers conferred on him under Section 271 (4) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999, as amended. 


“I know we are all emotional, but this is what we have to do, nature abhors vacuum. Condolences to all of us and may the good Lord rest the soul of the departed CJ in Jesus’ name. 

“On the 4th day of November, 2024, Ekiti lost a rare gem, a perfect gentleman and an epitome of judicial integrity, Justice Oyewole Adeyeye, a distinguished Chief Judge of Ekiti state who died in active service. He was a dedicated and respected jurist who in his journey through life dedicated his life to upholding the rule of law and access to justice. He will always be remembered for his contribution to development of justice in our dear state. His legacy of honesty, professionalism and erudition as a judge will never be forgotten.

“Even as we mourn the exit of this legal luminary, one is faced with reality that nature abhors vacuum especially in such an important organ of government like the judiciary, it is for this reason that in the exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 217 subsection 4 of the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended, appointed honourable Justice Lekan Adekanye Ogunmoye as the acting Chief Judge of the state. 

“This is to ensure that vacuum is not created and that the state judicial apparatus continues to run smoothly.


While congratulating Justice Ogunmoye on the new position, Governor Oyebanji noted that the situation on ground called for sober reflection as well as personal challenge to the acting Chief Judge. He urged him to bring to bear his high level of competence, dedication, hardwork and professionalism to further turn around the development in the justice sector.

“I do not doubt your competency leadership acumen either, I therefore want to charge you to lead the judiciary at this moment of transition with humility, brotherly solidarity and experience. I also want to urge you to reflect deeply on the oath you have just subscribed to, which is to discharge your duties to the best of your abilities and faithfulness, in accordance with the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria”. He added.


In his response, the Acting Chief Judge appreciated the state governor for appointing him, pledging to dispense worthwhile justice for a sustained development of the state.

Justice Ogunmoye disclosed that the Judiciary had enjoyed maximum cooperation and support under Oyebanji administration, particularly for his commitment and passion for the arm of government, he however requested for more collaboration in an effort to help him continue with the impressive legacies of his predecessors to ensure prompt delivery of justice.



He further solicited the support of government to enable him move the justice system from analogue to digital  delivery of justice system as well as improve welfare of workers.

Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, has congratulated the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adeoye Stephen Aribasoye on his 48th birthday.

The Governor in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media, Yinka Oyebode, said the Speaker has been a wonderful and dependable partner in the journey of translating the Shared Prosperity agenda of the administration into sustainable development and impactful growth   for the people of the state. 

Governor Oyebanji described Rt. Hon Aribasoye as an embodiment of God's grace, mercy and loving kindness. This, he said has reflected in his life's trajectory as a student activist, students union leader, public servant, a lawyer and politician.

The Governor commended Aribasoye for presiding over a highly productive, responsible and responsive Assembly  since his emergence as Speaker of the Seventh Assembly in June last year.

The Governor said Rt Hon Aribasoye remains a good ambassador of the youth in government, adding that his demonstrated leadership qualities and firmness are proves that the youth can lead and lead  well when properly groomed. 

The Governor wished the Speaker long life, good health and resounding success in all his endeavours. 

“On behalf of my wife, the Government and good people of Ekiti, the Land of Honour, I felicitate our amiable Speaker and wish him a happy birthday and a life of bliss.”, the statement added.

Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, on Saturday paid a condolence visit to the family of the late Chief Judge of the State, Hon Justice Oyewole Adeyeye, in Ado- Ekiti. 


Governor Oyebanji, who arrived at the deceased’s residence around 2.00pm, was received by the widow, Mrs Adeyeye; children, relatives, and friends of the late Chief Judge.

Speaking with journalists shortly after the visit, Governor Oyebanji described the late Justice Adeyeye as a very forthright man, fit and proper judicial officer, who was deeply dedicated to his job.


Highlighting the significant contribution of the late Chief Judge to the state’s judicial system, Governor Oyebanji said Justice Adeleye was not only a respected jurist but also a beacon of integrity and professionalism, whose absence will be felt profoundly across the state’s legal community.
 
The Governor praised the late Justice Adeyeye’s dedication to transparent and efficient judicial process, which according to him, has set a standard for judicial transparency, a quality that has served as an inspiration to both his colleagues and younger members of the judiciary.



He maintained that the late Justice Adeyeye left behind a legacy of fairness and professionalism that will continue to inspire the judiciary for years to come. 

While commiserating with the family, judiciary, and the people of the state, Governor  Oyebanji expressed hope that the Chief Judge’s legacy would continue to inspire future leaders within the state’s legal system to maintain the highest standard of integrity and service to the public.



“The late Chief Judge was a good man, very forthright, very dedicated to his job, a fit and proper judicial officer. We will miss him.

“He left behind a legacy of transparency and professionalism. I enjoyed working with him, I never had a cause to doubt his commitment to the judicial reforms in the state. He has been part and parcel of the judiciary since the state's creation in 1996, he was an encyclopedia of the judicial system and he brought to bear while in office a lot of reforms that had led to the improvement of the judicial system in the state." The Governor asserted.
