Ekiti State's Healthcare Revolution Under Governor Oyebanji.

Ekiti State's Healthcare Revolution Under Governor Oyebanji.

As Governor Biodun Oyebanji marches towards the second anniversary of his administration it is  clear that the welfare and wellbeing of the people are of top priority to him. Evidently, the Governor has made healthcare delivery a major focus thereby transforming the State into a shining example for the rest of Nigeria.

Dubbed the "Health workers' Governor," BAO has implemented groundbreaking policies that have positioned Ekiti as a trailblazer in healthcare provision. One of his most significant achievements is the substantial increase in salaries for doctors and health workers across all levels in the state. This bold move has not only boosted the morale among medical professionals but has also made Ekiti an attractive destination for talented healthcare practitioners.

Under BAO's leadership, Ekiti State has continued to make remarkable strides in improving healthcare infrastructure and accessibility. The recent commissioning of a state-of-the-art mammogram machine at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH), Ado- Ekiti is a testament to the Governor’s commitment to enhancing women's health. This cutting-edge facility, which was inaugurated last month, will play a crucial role in the early detection of breast cancer, providing hope and saving lives for countless women in the State.

The establishment of a new maternity ward at the Aramoko General Hospital, built by the Governor and his siblings in memory of their late mother, Chief (Mrs) Esther Oyebanji, is a heartwarming example of BAO's personal investment in maternal and child health. This facility, commissioned by the Honorable Minister of State for Health, Dr. Tunji Alausa, in July, underscores the Governor’s dedication to ensuring that the people of Ekiti have access to high-quality healthcare services.

Another significant achievement in Ekiti's healthcare transformation is the recent signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Federal Government and the State Government  upgrading the Ikole Specialist Hospital into a Federal Medical Centre (FMC). This landmark move has further elevated the state's healthcare infrastructure and service delivery.

Under the health sector's flagship program (Ulerawa health insurance program), more than 429,000 residents have accessed care in the last year, and over 700 are scheduled to undergo various surgical procedures fully covered by the people's Governor. This comprehensive health insurance program has become a game-changer, providing affordable and accessible healthcare to the citizens of Ekiti State.

In addition, BAO administration has comprehensively renovated 13 out of 22 general hospitals in the state, and is currently renovating the remaining nine for effective and efficient healthcare service delivery and improved health outcomes. The general hospitals currently undergoing renovation include General Hospital, Ifaki-Ekiti, General Hospital Iye-Ekiti, General Hospital Ayede Ekiti, and General Hospital Ilupeju-Itapa Ekiti, among others.

Furthermore, the state government has implemented the Immunization Plus and Malaria Progress by Accelerating Coverage and Transforming Services (IMPACTs) Projects, which focus on reducing malaria incidence and cases in Ekiti State. As a result, malaria treatment is now free in all the 177 accredited healthcare centers across the state, ensuring that anyone presenting a case of malaria receives free treatment at the point of service.

Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji's unwavering commitment to healthcare excellence has positioned Ekiti State as a model for healthcare provision in Nigeria. With his dynamic leadership, innovative policies, and strategic investments, the people of Ekiti can look forward to a future filled with improved health outcomes and a robust healthcare system that caters to their well-being.

Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji's remarkable achievements in the healthcare sector have not gone unnoticed. In recognition of his significant contributions, the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Ekiti State Chapter, and a number of other health associations have honored him with several awards. These accolades are a testament to his unwavering commitment to the welfare of health workers in the state.

As the people of Ekiti State continue to reap the benefits of BAO's healthcare revolution, it is evident that the governor's vision, leadership, and dedication have made healthcare delivery an indispensable pillar of his administration. With his impressive track record and unwavering focus on improving the lives of Ekiti residents, Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji undoubtedly deserves a second term in office to build on the remarkable progress already achieved.
