In fulfilment of his electoral promise to reduce poverty rate and make his constituents more self-reliance, Hon. Fatoba Olusola Steve, has again facilitated training and empowerment of youth and women on poultry production in Ado/Irepodun-Ifelodun local governments.

The training and empowerment programme was carried out in collaboration with National Center For Women Development(NCWD) on Saturday in Ado-Ekiti.
The Director General of NCWD who was represented by Mrs Adedayo Ademola in her brief remark said the sole aim of the agency was to collaborate with the lawmaker to train and empower people in his constituency on Agriculture which poultry production is an integra part.

She stated further that agriculture is very crucial to the growth of our economy.

The D.G called on the over one hundred beneficiaries to utilize the opportunity given to them as this will make them self-reliance and contribute to the growth of the economy.

"This training and empowerment programme was done in collaboration with Hon. Fatoba to make our people more self-reliance and reduce the rate of poverty among our women and youths.

The beneficiaries who were empowered with various poultry items which include Broilers, pullets, Noila, Cockerel, feeds, metal pound feed, hand glove, round feeder, Apron and cash gift showed their profound appreciation to the lawmaker and prayed for his continual success.

26TH ANNIVERSARY: EKITI NOW A STATE OF PRIDE FOR ALL - FAYEMI

26TH ANNIVERSARY: EKITI NOW A STATE OF PRIDE FOR ALL - FAYEMI
…thanks Ekiti people, says Oyebanji ‘ll build on foundation already built.
Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has expressed satisfaction that his administration has fulfilled its promises and is bequeathing a solid foundation for socio-economic development to the incoming administrations to build on.

Addressing the people of the state in a special broadcast on Saturday to mark the 26th anniversary of the creation of the state and the country's 62nd independence anniversary, Dr. Fayemi said "Ekiti is now a state of pride for all of us, emerging steadily from her humble beginnings."

He noted that Ekiti wouldn't have reached this level of progress without what he called "outstanding dedication of past and present leaders who worked for and have continued to work to ensure that the State assumes its proper pride of place in the comity of States across the nation."

The Governor explained that the people of the State have every reason to thank God for what He has done for them through successive administrations, while also appreciating the struggles and sacrifices of those that fought for the creation of the State, which came into being on October 1, 1996.

He also used the medium to appreciate the people of the State for their support, guidance, prayer, suggestions and criticisms, the combination of which he said formed the impetus for his administration's visible and impactful achievements throughout his two terms as the Governor of Ekiti State.
Dr. Fayemi who would transfer the reins of power to the Governor-elect, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, on October 16 said the seamless transition in which an outgoing governor would be handing over to a successor from the same party, for the first time in the history of the state, would allow for building on the foundation of development already laid by his government.

While noting that Mr. Oyebanji was part of the success story of his two tenures, the Governor said it was heart-warming that his successor would perfect whatever the outgoing administration could not perfect appreciating everyone that has contributed to the feats recorded by his administration.

Dr. Fayemi said: "Today, I address you with a heart of fulfilment and gratitude. Despite the challenges we have faced in the past years, God helped us to surmount the hurdles and fulfil most of our promises. The journey of my second term in office has been very interesting, challenging and rewarding.

"The journey we started on October 16, 2018, will end in the next few days. We made the best of the mandate given to us by Ekiti people and evidence abounds that a great future awaits us as a people and State. This government deliberately ensured that every sector of our social life and economy received attention.

"Despite the daunting challenges of the era, the government delivered on its projections for policies, programmes and projects execution, and achieved very tangible outcomes. I have no doubt that many of our visionary efforts would continue to deliver outcomes for generations to come.

"As you are all aware, I will be handing over the baton of leadership to our Governor-elect, Mr. Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, in the next couple of days to take over from where we stop and start building on the foundation we already laid for the growth and stability of Ekiti State. This address, therefore, is my last Independence Day broadcast to you as your governor.

"The chapter of my second term that we started four years ago will end on October 16, 2022, thus heralding the new chapter of the incoming government. This administration came to office on the promise of restoring the values and dignity of Ekiti people, tackling infrastructure decay, and developing the economy.

"Against all odds, the administration fulfilled its promises and is bequeathing a solid foundation for fast economic development of Ekiti State for successive administrations to build on.

“As a government, we are conscious of the fact that there may be areas where expectations have not been met due to unforeseen circumstances and the realities of the period.

"Nevertheless, it is heart-warming, to inform you today, that whatever the outgoing government couldn’t perfect will be handled and perfected by the incoming administration.  That is the beauty of our seamless transition and the continuity that you, Ekiti people, voted for.

"The task of keeping Ekiti working is our collective responsibility. We already have a strong start with the victory of our Governor-elect at the poll. His victory is significant not only for the All Progressives Congress (APC), but for Ekiti-kete as a whole. This is the first time a political party will be succeeding itself in our dear State.

"Luckily, our Governor-elect, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, was an integral part of all the developmental feats recorded by this administration. What this holds for us as a State is that the path to an enduring socio-economic and political progress already mapped out by this administration will be followed through with renewed vigour and dedication.

“A tree, our people say, does not make a forest. I am, therefore, using this medium to appeal to all well-meaning sons and daughters of Ekiti, and all our development partners to rally round the incoming administration in the overall best interest of our people.

"With your prayers, support, suggestions, guidance and constructive criticism, the incoming government will make the best of the foundation we already laid and surpass our record of performance. I urge you all to join hands with the incoming administration to consolidate on the work we have done so far and keep Ekiti working in our collective best interest.

NIGERIA AT 62: Omoluabi Team Alliance  Calls for Sober Reflection and National Mourning.
Nigeria at 62, post independence experience and journey of six(6) decades is a memorable one that leaves Nigerians of all ages, young and old in pains with few gains to account for. At this age and time, we are still battling with common and trivial challenges that other countries both emerging and developed countries have overcomed. Failed systems have been the order of the day, terrorism and banditry, corruption at all levels, poor infrastructure, economic failure, failed political systems, paralyzed educational system, uncatered and impoverished work force, bad roads, gross unemployment and many more that misrepresents the image of a once flourishing nation in the comity of nations.

As Nigeria clock 62 today, Nigerians are advised to unite in one voice to fight political demons, economic sabotage, pomoters of tribalism and corrupt leaders who have been parasitic and feeding fat on the common wealth of the nation that belongs to us all.  Omoluabi however, charge citizens to use the weapon of democracy which is their votes to choose leaders who are passionate, truthful, detribalized, tactful and intelligent enough to handle econimic issues. However, urged everyone to believe in a better Nigeria that is possible if we all desire it. Omoluabi Team Alliance Socio- cultural Group is of the opinion that Nigerians both home and abroad declare moments of national mourning for a country intentionally deprived of developments in all facets.

They are also found in Nasarawa and Kogi States in central Nigerian Area. Gbagyi is the most populated ethnic Group and indigenous in the Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria, where their major occupation is farming.

According to oral tradition, the first settler was a hunter who went to hunt in Paikokun land, a thick forest in Abuja. Paikokun was the name of the mountain where the first settler inhabited. The Gbagyi people initially used to live on mountain tops because they believed they were safer on the mountain than at the plain before western civilization made most of them relocate to the plain.

HOW TO SPOT GBAGYI
Very unique to the Gbagyi women is the placing of goods however heavy on their shoulder. They believe the head represents the king of the entire body, hence, it should not be disturbed. Nowadays, the groom simply pay the bride’s price instead of serving 7 years in the bride’s father’s house.

RELIGION
In their traditional religion, some Gbayi believe in a God called Shekwoi, the one who was there before their ancestors, but they also devote themselves to appeasing deities of the god such as Maigiro. CLEMENT ONYEMELUKWE: THE MAN WHO DESIGNED NIGERIAN NATIONAL GRID.

CLEMENT ONYEMELUKWE: THE MAN WHO DESIGNED NIGERIAN NATIONAL GRID.
“Father of Electricity” in Nigeria!

All you need to know out him:
Onyemelukwe initiated the planning and development of the electricity grid still used in Nigeria today when he became Chief Electrical Engineer in 1962. Clement Onyemelukwe, Nigerian Chief Electrical Engineer of the country's Electricity Corporation, generated international attention when he married Catherine Zastrow, a white Peace Corps volunteer, who had just completed her service in 1964.

Although his parents had rejoiced that he had returned from nine years in the United Kingdom without a foreign white wife, in 1963 he met Catherine in Lagos.

“Peace Corps Worker to Wed Nigerian Engineer,” was the headline for a brief article in The New York Times from Lagos, Nigeria on Dec. 23, 1964. Interracial marriage was illegal in Kentucky which was still Catherine's U.S. residence while she was in the Peace Corps.

“When her parents returned to Kentucky after the wedding they had to change their phone number because of hate calls. The couple received telegrams from people all over the world, mostly supportive but a few critical. A photo of the wedding appeared in Life Magazine in January 1965 and was also noted in Ebony Magazine.”

Onyemelukwe initiated the planning and development of the electricity grid still used in Nigeria today when he became Chief Electrical Engineer in 1962.

He left the electricity industry to found Freeman Engineering in Lagos in 1973. In 1976 he founded Colechurch International Ltd, a project management and promotion company, in United Kingdom. He and his wife Catherine moved to Westport in 1993.

He initially held a residence card, known as a "green card," as he was spending a good part of his time in his home country Nigeria on business. In 2007 he finally became an American citizen. He was a speaker at the Y's Men and an active library user while working on his latest book or researching business ideas.

He passed on at age 86 in March 2020.
He is survived by his wife Catherine, their three children, Chinakueze, Elizabeth, and Samuel, and five grandchildren, Kenechi, Nkiru, Teya, Bruche and Ikem.

BALOGUN ODERINLO OF IBADAN THE NEMESIS OF FULANI.

BALOGUN ODERINLO OF IBADAN THE NEMESIS OF FULANI.
Source: Gossip House

The Statue of Bashorun Oderinlo

After Bashorun Oluyole’s death. Oderinlo who was his Balogun was next in line to succeed him. Because of the purges and wars that Oluyole engineered during his time as the leader of Ibadan, all the chiefs that were senior to Oderinlo had died before Oluyole or soon after Oluyole’s own death. So there was practically no rival to Oderinlo’s position as Balogun and ruler of the town.

Oderinlo rose to prominence as one of the chiefs who played an active role in the rebellion against Lakanle and the latter’s subsequent suicide. There seemed to have been some form of close ties between him and Oluyole. It is likely to Oderinlo was at least an associate if not a close friend of the Bashorun. It was the influence of Oluyole that he became the Otun Balogun to Bankole Aleshinloye, the first Balogun under Oluyole. After Aleshinloye’s death, Oderinlo became the Balogun. Oderinlo was the Balogun who led the Ibadan troops to fight in the second Ibadan- Ilorin war at Osogbo, a war that Ibadan won comprehensively.

The Army of Ibadan equally attacked Ilesa to rescue Oshogbo. From that war, the Ibadan Army ventured into Ekiti for the relief of Otun, which was attacked by Ilorin Army. They also fought in Ara to reinstate the Alara who was then having problems with his people. He was among the six generals who plotted against Oluyole after that campaign. He was also among the four who later rescinded that decision, leaving the two who did not rescind, Lajubu and Akinluyi to die in a purge by the Bashorun.

At the time Bashorun Oluyole died, Balogun Oderinlo was planning to go on a war to Oke Ogun. So when the entire council of Ibadan invited him to become the Baale He declined, saying he wanted to win that war first. Historians speculate that he wanted to gather the wealth from that war to boost his claim to the rulership of Ibadan at the time.

Balogun Oderinlo went to the war and came back. He won the war and gathered enough loot and slaves to bring back to Ibadan. However, a few months after his triumphant return to Ibadan from Oke Ogun, as he was set to be announced as the Baale of Ibadan, Balogun Oderinlo died mysteriously. To this day nobody knows how Balogun Oderinlo died, but the sudden and mysterious nature of his death has led many to speculate that he may have been poisoned. But no body could pinpoint who did the warrior the fatal blow.

After his demise, Baale Opeagbe replaced him on the throne of Ibadan. Balogun Oderinlo has been honoured in Ibadan, a statue of him stands at Beere not far from Mapo Hall and the statue of Bashorun Oluyole. His house and some of his descendants live not far from Oja’ba to this day.
