JOSH BOSHED JOSHUA VS RUIZ RESULT: AJ SUFFERS BIGGEST BOXING SHOCK IN 30 YEARS AS HE IS STOPPED BY 25-1 NO-HOPER AND LOSES FOUR WORLD TITLES

ANTHONY JOSHUA was demolished by 19st no-hoper Andy Ruiz Jr in the biggest shock in boxing history.

Round One
Cagey, but Ruiz Jr landed cleaner.
Round Two
Joshua evened it up.
Round Three
Ruiz floored, but came back to drop AJ twice.
Round Four
Joshua all over the place. Ruiz dominant.
Round Five
Joshua looks laboured, asks corner what round it is at end.
Round Six
Shock is well and truly on. AJ asks corner why he doesn’t feel good.
Round Seven
It’s waved off after Joshua dropped twice. Stunning. ROUND ACTION

The WBA, IBF and WBO king was dethroned after being dropped a staggering four times and being pulled out by the referee Mike Griffin before the end of the seventh.

Anthony Joshua was floored twice in the third round in sensational scenes

AJ suffered one of the biggest shocks ever in heavyweight boxing as he lost his world titles
It ranks alongside 33/1 shot Buster Douglas’s stunning KO victory against Mike Tyson back in 1990 which shocked the boxing world.

California-based 29-year-old Ruiz took the fight on short notice, after a handful of dimwitted potential rivals turned it down, and pulled off the most amazing of upsets.

He was a 25/1 shot to dethrone WBO, WBA, IBF and IBO champ Joshua – but he pulled off what most believed was the impossible.
Ruiz said: “I just want to thank God for the victory. This is what I have been dreaming about and working hard for.”

Exactly as AJ predicted, Ruiz’s first action was to try to jab at his six pack but it bounced off his rock-hard abs.

The fight was waved off by Mike Griffin in a sensational victory for Andy Ruiz Jr
Joshua started the fight with his lead left hand swinging low, by his waist, a risky tactic that Ruiz warned him against with a couple of early digs that had the crowd concerned.

The British hero enjoyed his first scoring punches in the last 50 seconds of the second round when he landed twice with a short left hook and a stiff jab

And in round three he raced through the gears and dropped Ruiz with a murderous uppercut.

But Ruiz shocked the world seconds later by dropping Joshua in sensational style and he was saved by the bell moments later when he hit the deck for a second time and took another eight count.

The left hook that AJ is infamously susceptible to clipped his temple first and rendered him senseless, a zombie, and a right sent him down.

Joshua beat the count but was stumbling around the ring with a vacant grin, all his dreams and hard work hanging by a thread.

And Ruiz pounced to batter him to the ground once again, terrifying the one-sided crowd backing their 2012 Olympic icon before the bell saved him.

Trainer Rob McCracken had to somehow save his man from one of the biggest embarrassments in sport and the fourth round looked an improvement when he tagged the challenger.

Fans broke into their booming “oh Anthony Joshua” chant but it suddenly sounded very desperate and didn’t reverberate for long.

But a roar echoed around Madison Square Garden when AJ connected with a left hook and Ruiz’s spit and sweat flew through the New York air and the fat on his back rippled in the slow motion replay.

Joshua admitted to hating fighting shorter men because they were able to tuck up and dodge shots and Ruiz, four inches below him, did exactly that.

Not once was Joshua able to test how the Mexican’s stomach ‘muscles’ would hold up under fire.

Instead it was Ruiz winning the round, clipping Joshua twice more as the Englishman toddled around on the backfoot looking dazed and confused.

And in round seven the walls and Joshua came tumbling down.

AJ connected with a sweet left hook but Ruiz countered and stunned him for a third flooring.
The accusations of Joshua being chinny were proven moments later when Ruiz earned every penny of his £3million by dropping him for a fourth time and being crowned Mexico’s first heavyweight world champion.

Ruiz becomes the first Mexican heavyweight champion of the world.

CARD MADNESS

ONE judge had Anthony Joshua AHEAD after six rounds before he was brutally beaten by Andy Ruiz Jr.

Ruiz, 29, was bossing the fight and had the better of Joshua for the majority of the fight.
But while Michael Alexander and Julie Lederman both had Ruiz 57-56 ahead on their scorecards after six rounds, Pasquale Procopio somehow had the Watford man 57-56 UP.

Procopio had AJ down as winning the first, second, fourth and fifth rounds.
According to Procopio, Ruiz had only won the third – by a score of 10-8 following the two knockdowns for AJ – and sixth.

OSUN POLY SHUT, AS STUDENTS BURN DOWN MEDICAL CENTRE

The vandalised health centre of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree

The management of the Osun State Polytechnic (OSPOLY), Iree, on Saturday has ordered the closure of the institution after a violent protest by the students over the death of their colleague at the school medical clinic.

Hammed Aminu a Higher National Diploma (HND) 1 in the department  of applied chemistry had on Friday slumped in the examination hall.

The closure of the institution was contained in a press statement signed by its Public Relations Officer (PRO), Mr Tope Abiola which was obtained by *TRIBUNE online in Osogbo*

The students, who stormed the clinic on Saturday morning, alleged that there was no medical personnel at the clinic to attend to Hammed when he was rushed to the clinic.

During the protest, the school’s ambulance, drugs and equipment in the clinic were torched by the students.

Reacting over the students’ protest, Abiola, said "apart from the burnt clinic, property worth millions of naira were also destroyed by the students"

"drugs, equipment, vehicles as well as medical facilities were razed down by the inferno" he added.

He, however, said that it was not true that there was no medical personnel to attend to Hammed when he was brought to the clinic.

He explained  further that when Hammed was rushed to the school clinic at about 4:30 p.m. on Friday, medical personnel on duty made efforts to resuscitate him but to no avail, stressing that deceased was immediately referred to another hospital in the town where he eventually died.

“He slumped shortly after writing his examination in the hall and he was immediately rushed to the school clinic" He said

“He was a Muslim and he was observing the Ramadan fasting. He might have slumped, due to loss of stamina. He was buried on Friday evening in his hometown, Oba’agun, a community close to Iree. We sympathise with his family and we pray to God to console them”, Abiola remarked.

He, however, said the closure of the institution was to forestall breakdown of law and order on campus, saying all students have been directed to vacate the campus with immediate effect.
LIVERPOOL🔴 SEE OFF SPURS TO WIN 6⃣TH CHAMPIONS LEAGUE TITLE🏆🏆🏆

Mohamed Salah put last season's final heartbreak behind him by setting up a 2-0 win over Tottenham in Madrid and a sixth Champions League triumph for Liverpool.

Egypt star Salah was infamously injured in a challenge with Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos before the Reds subsided to a 3-1 defeat in Kiev 12 months ago but grabbed the opener in a largely forgettable contest at the Wanda Metropolitano.

The Premier League Golden Boot winner dispatched a second-minute penalty after Moussa Sissoko was penalised for handball.

Liverpool and their Premier League counterparts played in fits and starts thereafter, with Spurs enjoying their most consistent spell of pressure before substitute Divock Origi added to his semi-final brace against Barcelona by drilling clinically into the bottom-right corner three minutes from time.

9TH SENATE: MARK, EKWEREMADU LEAD LAWAN, NDUME LOBBY TEAMS

Less than two weeks to the inauguration of the Ninth Senate, and election of the presiding officers of the upper legislative chamber, major contenders for the position of Senate President
have upped their game.

This was even as the Supreme Court judgement, last Friday, which awarded victory to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in all elections in Zamfara State, has altered the political calculation in the chamber.

As part of the last minute push, the two major candidates, Mohammed Ali Ndume and Ahmad Lawan, have recruited prominent members of the PDP, outgoing and returning, to lead their campaigns.

Longest serving senator, David Mark, who ws also a former two-term senate president, has been poached by Lawan, to lobby PDP members to back his senate presidency bid.

Mark has been pushing for the emergence of Lawan since 2015, before the PDP eventually resolved to adopt Saraki as its candidate.

Daily Sun learnt that Mark has instructed his loyalists in the PDP caucus, particularly his successor from Benue South and former Interior minister, Abba Moro, to play the leading role in Lawan’s campaign.

It was further learnt that another prominent North Central senator, who is involved in strategising  for the PDP and its interests, was deployed to engage Mark and Abia State senator, Eyinnaya Abaribe, who are seen as top PDP leaders rooting for Lawan, in a persuasive talk, with a view to getting then to withdraw.

Abaribe’s support for Lawan is causing disaffection in the PDP camp, which is yet to take a position on who to support; ahead of the June 11 inauguration of the Ninth Session of the National Assembly.

Abaribe is eyeing the position of Minority Leader in the new senate. He also supported Lawan in 2015.

A source in the caucus said the decision by overwhelming members to stay together until few hours to the inauguration of the National Assembly before disclosing their preferred candidate, has attracted attention from many APC members particularly those interested in the leadership of the Ninth Senate.

On the other hand, Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, has thrown his weight behind the candidacy of Ndume.

Ekweremadu, who is also gunning for the position of minority leader, is making a last minute attempt, alongside senator Stella Oduah, to convince their colleagues in the PDP, who are yet to decide on who to support, to root for Ndume.

Ekweremadu, who is also one of the longest serving senators in this dispensation, is pitching tent with Ndume with the hope that if he (Ndume) emerges, he will support his bid as minority leader.

Oduah, a recent Ndume convert, is expected to lobby female senators to support his bid. A former minister of Aviation, is already making moves to reach out to her female colleagues.

Meanwhile, strong indications have emerged that Chairman of the Committee on Appropriation, Danjuma Goje, who is also a top contender for the position of senate president, will likely step down.

Goje joined the race rather belatedly, and is being poached by senators and leaders of the ruling APC on one side, and Ndume’s supporters, on the other.

As part of moves to compel him to step down, Goje met with a national leader of APC in Saudi Arabia, last week, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.  The duo reportedly lodged in the same hotel in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, during Umrah, and had a discussion on the issue.

A source familiar with the details of the meeting, said more consultations would be held in Abuja, before the inauguration.

Goje, again, met with some APC senators on Monday, in his Abuja residence, to continue negotiations.

He also met with Ndume, on Monday evening, at his residence. This is the second time the duo will be meeting since they both declared to run for the senate president position.
