Ekiti Govt Fabricates 60 Dino Bins, Strengthens Waste Management.

Ekiti Govt Fabricates 60 Dino Bins, Strengthens Waste Management.
By Olamide Akinwumi

The Ekiti State Government has locally fabricated 60 Dino bins as part of efforts to improve waste management across the state. The bins were produced by Ekiti artisans and welders, in line with Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s policy of promoting local content and job creation.

Out of the 60 bins, 40 have already been deployed to strategic locations in Ado-Ekiti, while the remaining 20 are ready for distribution to other communities.

Since assuming office, Governor Oyebanji has adopted a holistic approach to waste management. Officials of the Ekiti State Waste Management Authority (EKSWAMA) confirmed that every request made to the government had been considered and approved, ranging from the repair of eight grounded vehicles, to the purchase of three new trucks, and the procurement of four Sino trucks, with another four currently being delivered.

The governor also approved the recruitment of more than 80 environmental officers, while the salaries of over 600 street sweepers were doubled—a gesture that earned him the nickname “Double-Double Governor.” Plans are underway to further increase their wages in recognition of their contribution to keeping the state clean.

The Dino bins initiative is complemented by the licensing of 12 private waste operators, who have been assigned to different zones to carry out doorstep collection. This, according to EKSWAMA, has reduced indiscriminate dumping of refuse on road medians and drainage channels. It has also improved evacuation and fumigation processes, thereby minimising health risks.

To strengthen institutional capacity, EKSWAMA staff have also undergone hands-on training with the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), where they acquired modern techniques and practices in waste management.

The initiative reflects Oyebanji’s vision of building a sustainable waste management structure anchored on local content, job creation, environmental safety, and the wellbeing of citizens.

EKSU Distances Self from Omolayo Hostel, Says Building Not Varsity Property.

The Management of Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti, has clarified that the dilapidated Omolayo Hostel trending on social media does not belong to the institution.

A TikTok video showing the abandoned state of the facility recently went viral, sparking concerns among students and members of the public.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Deputy Registrar and Head of the Directorate of Information and Corporate Affairs, Dr. Bode Olofinmuagun, stressed that the hostel, though built for students, is located outside the university campus and is not owned by EKSU.

"The attention of the University Management has been drawn to a viral TikTok video showing the sorry state of the Omolayo Hostel. While we are not happy with its dilapidated condition, we must state categorically that the hostel is not the property of Ekiti State University,” Olofinmuagun said.

He, however, acknowledged the contributions of the late Dr. Lawrence Omolayo, the philanthropist who built the facility, describing him as a man whose legacies continue to impact EKSU students.

"No doubt, the University appreciates the philanthropic gesture of the late Dr. Omolayo, who built the hostel. But the Management cannot meddle in the family affairs of the highly respected Omolayo dynasty when it has not been asked to do so,” the statement added.

The institution further indicated its readiness to partner with the Omolayo family should they wish to renovate the facility for the benefit of students.

"The Management of EKSU is willing to collaborate with the family in undertaking repairs on the building, if the family so desires, since the hostel remains one of the enduring legacies of the late Dr. Omolayo,” Olofinmuagun said.

OSV Warns Against Rumour-Mongering, Reaffirms Support for Oyebanji’s Re-Election.

OSV Warns Against Rumour-Mongering, Reaffirms Support for Oyebanji’s Re-Election.

The Oyebanji Street Vanguard (OSV), a grassroots mobilization group in Ekiti State, has raised the alarm over what it described as a deliberate attempt by some political actors to destabilise the state’s political atmosphere ahead of the 2026 governorship election.

In a statement made available to journalists on Friday, the group alleged that certain “unscrupulous and overzealous” individuals had resorted to spreading unfounded rumours against prominent political leaders in the state, having realised they stand no chance against the incumbent governor, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji.

The statement added that the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as well as the state, local government and ward executives of the party, remained fully committed to Governor Oyebanji’s aspiration.

It further listed the Ekiti National Assembly caucus, the 26 state House of Assembly members, members of the State Executive Council, past governors—including those who served on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)—as well as the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Dele Alake, among stakeholders backing Oyebanji’s re-election bid.

The OSV maintained that every support for Oyebanji was also a vote of confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whom it described as a symbol of progressive governance.

“Every vote and every support given to Governor Biodun Oyebanji is automatically a vote for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR. Ekiti remains firmly committed to the progressive agenda, and no amount of rumour or blackmail can change that,” the group declared.

According to the group, the “campaign of calumny” targeted at former governor Adeniyi Adebayo, ex-governor Kayode Fayemi and Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, was part of a larger strategy to sow division within the progressive fold in Ekiti.

The group, however, urged residents to disregard such claims, stressing that there was no crack in the unity of the party’s leadership in the state.

“The ship of good governance and development in Ekiti State has already left the harbour. On the stable atmosphere of continuity, we shall get to our desired destination,” the statement read in part.

The OSV reaffirmed its commitment to mobilising support for Oyebanji’s re-election in 2026, declaring: “Forward ever, backward never.”

EKSG Debunks Kayode Ojo’s claim of N80m fire station donation to Ekiti Airport.

EKSG Debunks Kayode Ojo’s claim of N80m fire station donation to Ekiti Airport.

Ekiti State Government has dismissed claims by an All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant, Engr. Kayode Ojo, that he donated a fire service station worth N80 million to the Ekiti Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport project.

The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor,  Mr Yinka Oyebode, described the claim which was made during a press briefing by Kayode Ojo’s campaign organisation in Ado-Ekiti earlier in the week, as untrue, misleading, and designed for self-glorification.

Oyebode who spoke at the 2025 Press Week and Annual Public Lecture of the Correspondents' Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), in Ado-Ekiti on Wednesday, also urged journalists to always scrutinize claims made by political office seekers and separate the truth from falsehood before going ahead to publish or broadcast as news.

Oyebode said the state government has a record of total spendings on the airport project, adding that there is no record of any donation of a fire station by Engr Ojo.

“I can say categorically here that the claim by Engr Ojo on that fire station is incorrect, false and misleading. Available records in the Governor’s Office and the Office of the Technical Adviser on Airport Project show that the claim of false.

“The only individual who made personal contributions to the Airport project is our revered leader and founder of Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti (ABUAD), Aare Afe Babalola (SAN).  In spite of the fact the elder statesman didn’t want his donations to be made public, Governor Biodun Oyebanji, had at different forum acknowledged Aare Babalola’s contributions.

“The records of project and spending at the airport are very clear. The project has remained a product of the state government’s vision to grow our agro-economy and open Ekiti to the world.

“The claim by Engr Ojo is baseless and there is no record of such contribution either by the immediate past administration or the incumbent administration. And if indeed Engr Ojo made such a contribution, let him come forward with evidence of the contribution, including the receipt and the name of the person that received the donation on behalf of government.

“What I do know and confirm from the office of the Technical Adviser to the Governor on Airport Project, AVM Sunday Makinde (rtd) is that the fire station was completed at the airport last year July, fully paid for by the Government.

The Governor’s aide also challenged Ojo and other aspirants in the governorship race to present tangible records of their contributions to Ekiti’s growth and development prior to their aspiration. He also urged them to toe the path of honour by making claims they can substantiate and make their campaign issue- based.

“Many of those jostling for the governorship seat today have not contributed meaningfully to the development of their local communities, let alone the state. It is not enough to make unsubstantiated claims during electioneering; the people deserve to see real evidence of service and contribution.

“At this critical period as the state moves closer to the governorship election, we appeal to journalists to always fact-check politicians’ claims before publication.” , Oyebode added at the event which was also attended by former Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters, Senator Babafemi Ojudu; Special Adviser on Information to the Governor, Rt Hon Taiwo Olatunbosun, representative of Oluyin of Iyin, Oba Adeola Ajakaye and other dignitaries.

Oyebanji Mourns passing of Alara of Aramoko, Oba Adegoke Olu-Adeyemi.

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji has expressed condolences over the passing of the Alara of Aramoko-Ekiti, Oba Adegoke Olu-Adeyemi.

The first class traditional ruler passed on August 8, 2025, aged 82 years old.

The Governor, in a condolence message, signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Yinka Oyebode, described the late monarch as a “father figure, a pillar of support, and an excellent administrator” who was deeply committed to the development of his town, his subjects and Ekiti State at large.

The Governor praised the late monarch for his exemplary leadership, passion for development and quality thought process,  through which he inspired the people during his reign as Alara of Aramoko Ekiti.

Governor Oyebanji acknowledged the late Oba’s unwavering support for the Government of Ekiti and the old Ondo State as a public servant, who rose to the position of a Permanent Secretary and served meritoriously in several ministries.

The Governor also noted Oba Adeyemi's leadership as Chancellor of the Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, among other leadership positions, further distinguished the late traditional ruler as a visonary leader and lover of education.

“Kabiyesi Alara was a father figure and a role model, who gave his people and humanity his best all and used wisdom to lead his people and attracted development to Aramoko community."

Governor Oyebanji condoled with the people of Aramoko, the Arakale royal family, and the entire traditional institution in Ekiti State, saying, “We will miss him dearly, but his impact on our lives and the development of Ekiti State will never be forgotten.”

TCN Power Project: Oyebanji Pays N503m to 1,050 Land Owners.

TCN Power Project: Oyebanji Pays N503m to 1,050 Land Owners.
....Urges beneficiaries to reinvest, rebuild for future.

In a bid to boost power generation in Ekiti State and expand the frontiers of the economy, Governor Biodun Oyebanji, has paid a staggering sum of N503 million to 1,050 land owners, whose lands were acquired for the execution of the 132/133 power project in the state.

Oyebanji assured the citizens that no effort will be spared to connect all the towns to national power grid, for improved economy, trade and commerce, as well as enhanced security, saying whoever that releases his land for such project will be compensated in commensurate terms.

The governor spoke in Ado Ekiti, on Wednesday, during the payment of compensation to owners of land covered by Transmission  Company  of Nigeria (TCN) Right of Way for the 132/133KVA power transmission line in Ekiti State.

Addressing the claimants, the governor, described the project as a critical national infrastructure that must be undertaken to boost power supply for overall development of the state, calling on the citizens to partner the contractor handling the project.

Oyebanji said the project was owned by the federal government, but facilitated by his administration, through consistent interfacing with all relevant agencies, as part of his strategic interventions to ensure that all parts of the state are connected to the national power grid.

"The TCN project, is a critical national infrastructure that will significantly improve electricity transmission, not only in Ekiti, but across the region. The economic , industrial and social benefits that will accrue from this project cannot be overstated.

"By ensuring stable and expanded power supply, we are laying a solid foundation for sustainable industrial growth, job creation and improved livelihoods of our citizens.

"To the beneficiaries, I want you to make judicious use of this compensation. While we can't replace sentimental value attached to ancestral land and heritage, we trust that these funds will go a long way in cushioning the impact and helping you to rebuild and reinvest for the future".

The governor clarified that, though, the first tranch of the payment covers Ijan and Ikere Ekiti, with an assurance that all other communities shall be duly compensated in due course, urging those yet to be captured not to entertain any fear.

The Special Adviser on Land Matters, Prof James Olaleye, applauded the land owners for releasing their lands willingly to execute the landmark project, saying with this, they have demonstrated uncommon sense of patriotism, understanding and love.

Olaleye added that the project was intended to propel necessary power infrastructures for rapid industrialisation, economic empowerment and improved standards of living, which will impact and bolster agro processing plants, livestock production and more regular supply of power for artisans to operate effectively.

"More reassuring is the fact that this project is intentionally designed for reliability and more regular supply of power by connecting to two power supply lines , one from Benin and another from Osogbo, while the two intersect at Ikere. We appreciate you for allowing this line to pass over your farms.

"It is in appreciation of your sacrifice that the governor quickly approved this payment. Please, make good use of this opportunity".

Speaking for the claimants, Chief Bode Ajisefini, promised that they would cooperate with those executing the project to prevent any case of kidnapping , vandalism and disruption that could hinder speedy completion of the project.

Ajisefini appreciated the state government for expeditiously granted the approval for the payment, saying this signposted that Oyebanji's government is deeply concerned about the welfare of the masses.

Hon. Oluwatuyi, others mobilise citizens for CVR in Irepodun/Ifelodun.

Hon. Oluwatuyi, others mobilise citizens for CVR in Irepodun/Ifelodun.
By Asubiojo G.O.

The Chairman of Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government, Hon. Oluwatuyi Oluwagbenga, alongside the Vice Chairman, Hon. Remi Alade, the Executive Secretary, Hon. Dr. Sule ’Tunji, and the Head of Local Administration, Mrs. Akinbobola Deborah-B, have urged residents of Igede-Ekiti and Awo-Ekiti to turn out in large numbers for the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Speaking at the council headquarters, Oluwatuyi emphasised that voter registration was not just a civic responsibility but also a vital tool for citizens to shape governance at all levels. He noted that only by obtaining a voter’s card could residents effectively contribute to the democratic process and benefit from government programmes.

He said, “Participation in the CVR is a direct way of securing your voice in the governance process. As a people, we must not disenfranchise ourselves. The Permanent Voter Card remains the only ticket to influence leadership and protect our collective interest.”

The Vice Chairman, Hon. Remi Alade, called on the youth and first-time voters to seize the opportunity to register, stressing that active political participation was the foundation of a stronger democracy. According to him, the present administration in Ekiti State had demonstrated commitment to inclusive governance, and citizens should not be left behind in sustaining that vision.

On his part, the Executive Secretary, Hon. Dr. Sule ’Tunji, urged residents to see the exercise as a way of consolidating the developmental strides of Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji’s administration. He maintained that by registering and collecting their PVCs, citizens would be better positioned to safeguard continuity and strengthen good governance in the state.

Addressing the council staff, the HLA, Mrs. Akinbobola Deborah-B, stressed the need for workers to lead by example in the ongoing CVR exercise. She reminded them that as drivers of government policies at the grassroots, their participation would not only enhance the credibility of the electoral system but also encourage the larger community to follow suit. She further appealed to women and other underrepresented groups within the workforce to take advantage of the registration.

The officials unanimously assured that supporting the ongoing exercise aligns with the people’s desire to sustain the continuity of governance under Oyebanji, whom they described as a governor deeply committed to grassroots development.

Group Warns Against Plot to Re-Enact Agbalajobi/Sarumi Scenario in Ekiti APC.

Group Warns Against Plot to Re-Enact Agbalajobi/Sarumi Scenario in Ekiti APC.

The Oyebanji Street Vanguard (OSV), a grassroots mobilization group in Ekiti State, has warned against attempts by some members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to re-enact the political crisis that rocked Lagos State during the 1991 contest between Professor Femi Agbalajobi and Chief Dapo Sarumi.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the group cautioned party members making “inflammatory and unguided” remarks against the National Secretary of the APC, Senator Ajibola Basiru. The group described the attacks as “despicable and condemnable,” stressing that such actions were indirectly targeted at President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the leader of the ruling party.

The OSV recalled how the rivalry between Agbalajobi and Sarumi over the Social Democratic Party (SDP) ticket in Lagos State led to the disqualification of both aspirants, paving the way for Yomi Edu to emerge as the candidate. The division, the group noted, eventually contributed to the victory of late Sir Michael Otedola of the National Republican Convention (NRC) as governor.

“We must not allow history to repeat itself in Ekiti. Any clandestine attempt to create an Agbalajobi/Sarumi deadlock here is a dead on arrival mission,” the statement read.

The group emphasized that the APC remains the platform of progress for the people of Ekiti and urged party loyalists to uphold respect for the President, the party’s national leadership, and its representatives.

“The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria deserves respect. Our great party, the APC, deserves respect. Every genuine member must imbibe and uphold the supremacy of the party,” OSV stated.

Reaffirming Ekiti’s cultural values, the group added: “We are known for the ethos of Omoluabi as a people, and we must ensure we display this at all times.”

THE KAYODE OJO’S CAMPAIGN OF CALUMNY: SETTING THE RECORDS STRAIGHT.

THE KAYODE OJO’S CAMPAIGN OF CALUMNY: SETTING THE RECORDS STRAIGHT.

The Government of Ekiti State recognizes the right of every citizen and aspirant in a democracy to express their views and canvass for support , it also has a responsibility to the good people of Ekiti State to protect the sanctity of truth and the integrity of public information, being the bearers of the people’s mandate to transparently govern.

Therefore, we are duty- bound and wish to categorically set the records straight regarding some spurious allegations leveled against the administration by the Kayode Ojo Campaign Organization, as follows:

1. ON ALLOCATIONS AND UTILISATION OF FUNDS
• The claim that over ₦286.23 billion in federal allocations and ₦70 billion in IGR have been mismanaged is false, misleading, and entirely unsubstantiated. The administration of Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji has consistently published audited financial statements, quarterly budget implementation reports, as well as procurement records required by law, and in line with the Open Government Partnership (OGP) commitments. This is why Ekiti State constantly ranks as the best state in fiscal transparency and accountability, and has come first in the last two quarterly rankings carried out by the well-respected BudgIT team.

• Major projects across the 16 Local Government Areas — including road construction, school rehabilitation, healthcare facilities, and rural electrification — are being executed with full transparency and due process. As a responsible Government, details of these projects are available on the State’s procurement portal for those who seek additional information. In addition to this, the Government’s unwavering commitment to agriculture has led to preparing over 4,000 hectares of land for farmers, constructing agric clusters for youths in agriculture, and many other interventions designed to make Ekiti, one of the smallest States by land mass, a food basket of the nation.

• While our eminent former governors are able to defend themselves, the allegation of paying them between ₦50 million and ₦120 million monthly is not only preposterous but defamatory, and we challenge the Kayode Ojo Campaign to produce any shred of evidence to support this wild claim.

2. ON LOANS AND THE ALLEGED ₦90 BILLION BOND

To allege that any bond was arranged in “connivance” with private individuals and an illustrious former Governor of the State is completely unfounded. The claim that Ekiti State took a N90billion bond is not only unsubstantiated but libelous. We challenge these individuals to provide any evidence of such a bond. It is on record that Ekiti’s State domestic debt has reduced from N118 billion in September 2022, to N51 billion as at March 2025, when the most recent domestic debt figures were released, due to the prudent management of the State’s finances. It is therefore ludcirous to suggest that the State has taken a N90 billion bond, when the total domestic debt reported by the Debt Management Office for Ekiti State is only N51 billion.

3. ON DELIVERY OF ROAD PROJECTS

Suggesting that 90% of communities in Ado-Ekiti, the State Capital are without motorable roads and electricity supply shows a complete disconnect from facts on ground.
Till date, the State Government has awarded road contracts exceeding N200 billion, covering 350 kilometres across the State. Out of this, over N150 billion has been paid to contractors, with 126 kilometres conpleted, while the balance are at various stages of completion. These roads were carefully selected to connect commercial hubs, large communities, as well as to provide alternatives to Federal roads that are either being repaired or awaiting reconstruction. The overhead bridge project referenced in Ado-Ekiti is ongoing, not stalled, and is being executed in line with the agreed project plan. As at today, the project is at over 60% completion, and will be completed in Q1 2026, which is on track with the expected delivery date. This is outside of the rural agriculture roads being constructed under RAAMP, where 132 kilometres of rural roads are being constructed.

4. ON WORKERS’ WELFARE

Apart from the heavy investment in road infrastructure, the State spends an average of N5 billion per month on salaries and pensions, and has spent N40 billion on this since the beginning of the year. In addition to this, the State has paid N7.5 billion to State retirees and another N4. 3 billion to local government retirees, making a total of N11.8 billion.
Apart from this, Ekiti State’s faithfully implemented the minimum wage adjustment and now pays an average of N5 billion per month in salaries and pensions. This is in addition to the payment of leave bonuses, and the regular replenishment of various loan schemes.

One of Governor Oyebanji’s widely celebrated attributes, especially within the labour community, is his regular engagements and open dialogue with labour leaders, and the associated remarkable record of honouring negotiated agreements.

5. ON SECURITY AND POLITICAL TOLERANCE

The allegation that supporters of a particular aspirant are being arrested for “fictitious offences” like kidnapping and armed robbery is completely false. Worse still, it casts a dark shadow on the reputation of our dedicated law enforcement agencies, and undermines their genuine efforts at combating crime. Politicisation of serious security matters should be off limits. The Government of Ekiti State does not, and will never direct security agencies to target any citizen for political reasons.

Furthermore, all APC aspirants are free to campaign. There is no restriction, no threat, and no directive against the reception or mobilisation of supporters.

6. ON ALLEGED ENDORSEMENT RALLIES
The rallies held across the state are not government-funded but were organised by support groups, trade unions, and grassroots associations who are satisfied with Governor Oyebanji’s leadership and are exercising their constitutional rights to peaceful assembly and freedom of expression.

To label these voluntary public endorsements as wasteful “endorsement rallies” is completely inaccurate, and may be interpreted as an attempt to silence the voices of fellow Ekiti people who are exercising their constitutionally guaranteed rights.

7. OUR POSITION ON THE APC PRIMARIES
Governor Oyebanji remains a loyal party man and has never declared the primary election a “do-or-die” affair. The Governor has expressed, repeatedly, that party supremacy will guide the process, and the choice of the people will prevail. The Governor respects every aspirant’s ambition and will support the party in every way to ensure that the primary election is free, fair, and credible.

CONCLUSION

This administration welcomes robust debate, but it must be based on facts, not fiction.

We call on the good people of Ekiti to remain vigilant, and not be misled by falsehood.

We thank them for their continued support as we press forward in our commitment to their welfare, security, and progress.

Ekiti is working, and the Government’s commitment to its vision of shared prosperity is unwavering.

Group Hails APC Leadership, Declares Oyebanji’s Re-election a “De Javu".

The Oyebanji Street Vanguard (OSV), a grassroots mobilisation group, has applauded the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for their confidence in Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji’s administration, describing his re-election in 2026 as a “de javu” of political continuity.

In a statement signed by its Convener, HC Ade, the group commended Ekiti people for their maturity, resilience, and unflinching support for the present administration, urging them to sustain their doggedness in order to consolidate the State’s development.

The group noted that massive support for Governor Oyebanji’s second term would not only guarantee continuity of good governance in Ekiti but also position the State as a stronghold for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 presidential bid.

Their remarks followed comments credited to the APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, who recently declared in an interview with Sunday Sun that the 2026 Ekiti governorship election would be a “walkover” for Oyebanji.

Basiru had dismissed claims of a tough contest in the State, stressing that Oyebanji’s popularity cuts across party ranks. According to him, “even those who have purchased expression of interest and nomination forms should know that there is effectively no vacancy in the Ekiti State Government House.”

He added: “There is no election in Ekiti because Oyebanji is going to continue. The election is going to be a walkover because all the former governors, deputy governors except one, all serving and former senators, are fully with him.”

The APC scribe further noted that Oyebanji’s performance has united the party behind him, adding that even if 10 aspirants contested the primary, the people themselves would reward a performing governor at the polls.

OSV, in its statement, showered encomiums on key leaders including the former Governor and Minister of Trade, Otunba Niyi Adebayo; immediate past Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi; Senate Leader, Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele; and Minister of Mines and Solid Minerals, Dr. Dele Alake, for what it described as coordinated leadership in positioning Ekiti for greater political and economic relevance.

The group stressed that Ekiti’s seamless political transitions and stability under Oyebanji have created the right environment to attract federal projects and foreign direct investment.

“A vote for Governor Abiodun Oyebanji in the 2026 governorship election is a vote for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027,” OSV declared.

“The ship of political, economic, and social development of Ekiti has taken off, no going back. Forward ever, backward never.”

Oyebanji Extends Development Strides to Ekiti South West LGA.

Oyebanji Extends Development Strides to Ekiti South West LGA.
By Olamide Akinwumi

The Executive Governor of Ekiti State, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, has further demonstrated his commitment to all-round development with a series of impactful projects executed across Ekiti South West Local Government Area. From education and healthcare to road infrastructure, agriculture, rural development, and workers’ welfare, the Governor’s footprint is visible in every sector, reinforcing his pledge that no Local Government in Ekiti State will be left behind.

In line with his administration’s pro-people agenda, Governor Oyebanji approved the payment of ₦1.1 billion in pensions to 672 pensioners and ₦239.4 million in gratuities to 83 retirees in the LGA. This, according to government sources, reflects his commitment to the welfare of senior citizens and the sustenance of dignity in retirement.

The education sector in the LGA has received attention with the construction and renovation of blocks of classrooms, offices, and facilities in schools located in Ilawe, Igbara Odo, and Ogotun. These interventions aim to enhance learning environments and promote quality education for students in the communities.

Health facilities are also being revitalized. The General Hospital, Ilawe, is undergoing renovation, while the Comprehensive Health Centre at Adin-Ilawe has been rehabilitated. A Basic Health Centre has been constructed in Ilawe, complemented by new pharmacy sections, solar-powered lighting, and procurement of medical equipment for facilities in Ogotun, Ilawe, and Igbara Odo.

The government has carried out desiltation works on Temidire River in Ilawe and Olooparun River in Igbara Odo, as well as the excavation of Aaye Quarters River in Ilawe. Motorised boreholes were drilled in Omi Odo Community and the Basic Health Centre in Ilawe, as well as in Ojurube Community, Ogotun. Additionally, culverts and drainage systems have been constructed in Ifesowapo Community, Ilawe, and on Alonge-Olorioko Road, Ogotun.

In terms of infrastructure, the Oyebanji administration has extended a 33KV power line from Ilawe to Igbara Odo (13km) to boost electricity supply.
Road construction and rehabilitation remain a major focus, with projects including:
●Rehabilitation of Ilawe–Igede Road and Ilawe–Erijiyan Road
●Reconstruction of Ikere–Igbara Odo Road and Ikere–Ilawe Road
●Rehabilitation of Igbara Odo–Ikogosi Road
●Construction of major concrete works on Ado–Ilawe–Igbara Odo–Ibuji Road
●Construction of the Ilawe–Erijiyan link road

To strengthen food security, the state government has cleared 170 hectares of land as farm clusters in different parts of the LGA. The construction of a farm dormitory for youths in agriculture is also ongoing.
On rural development, 4km of farm roads have been rehabilitated in Ilawe–Ilupeju and another 4km in Araromi–Aramoko, facilitating better access for farmers and rural dwellers.

In preserving cultural heritage, the government has commenced the renovation of the Oba’s Palace in Ogotun Ekiti, giving it a facelift that reflects both tradition and modernity.

Governor Oyebanji’s projects in Ekiti South West LGA, coming after similar interventions in Irepodun/Ifelodun, Ilejemeje, and Aiyekire/Gbonyin LGAs, reinforce his administration’s resolve to spread development across all 16 local government areas of Ekiti State.

“There is no local government in Ekiti State where Governor Oyebanji has not executed projects,” a government statement noted, emphasizing his continuity agenda and commitment to inclusive growth.

Ekiti 2026: Oyebanji’s Re-election Bid Faces No Threat, APC National Secretary.

Ekiti 2026: Oyebanji’s Re-election Bid Faces No Threat, APC National Secretary.
By Olamide Akinwumi.

The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Ajibola Basiru, has declared that the 2026 governorship election in Ekiti State will be a walkover for the incumbent, Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji.

Speaking in an interview with The Sun Newspaper in Abuja, Basiru said the widespread support enjoyed by Governor Oyebanji from virtually all political stakeholders in the state makes his re-election bid almost unchallengeable.

According to him, all former governors, deputy governors, and both serving and former senators from the state except one are solidly behind Oyebanji.

“There is no election in Ekiti because Oyebanji is going to continue. Any reasonable person, including those who have purchased the expression of interest and nomination forms, knows that there is no vacancy in the Ekiti Government House,” Basiru said.

While acknowledging that the party will still conduct its primaries, Basiru stressed that the outcome is not in doubt.

“Even if 10 aspirants participate in the primary, the truth remains that when you see a governor who is performing for the party, you will know he is a performer. It is the people who will do the voting, and I was in Ekiti to see what is going on,” he noted.

Basiru, however, welcomed the purchase of nomination forms by aspirants, saying it contributes to the financial strength of the APC.

Governor Oyebanji, who was elected in 2022, is seeking a second term in office, riding on his record of grassroots development and widespread acceptance among party stakeholders and the electorate.

Tinubu’s Wife Empowers 500 Ekiti Women with Business Tools.

The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on Saturday empowered 500 women in Ekiti State with business equipment to boost their economic independence under the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), in collaboration with the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The distribution, which took place at the Osuntokun Pavilion, Government House, Ado- Ekiti, featured the presentation of deep freezers, maxi gas cookers with ovens, industrial grinding machines, and generating sets to beneficiaries carefully selected from the 16 local government areas of the state.

Represented by the Wife of the Governor of Ekiti State and RHI State Coordinator, Dr. Olayemi Oyebanji, Senator Tinubu said the programme was part of her vision to empower women across the country with the tools needed to enhance their businesses and create sustainable sources of income.

She explained that the empowerment drive was being held simultaneously in Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, and Oyo States, with 500 women targeted in each. According to her, the initiative, which began in February 2025 in Abuja, has so far reached thousands of women in the North Central and South-South zones, and will eventually benefit 18,500 women nationwide across all six geopolitical zones.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on SDGs, Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, represented by the Assistant Director, Policy and Strategy, Dr. Yahaya Umar, charged the beneficiaries to use the empowerment tools as a stepping stone toward financial independence and sustainable livelihood.

She noted that research has consistently shown that women entrepreneurs play critical roles in poverty reduction, employment generation, and family welfare, thereby contributing significantly to Nigeria’s economic growth.

In their goodwill messages, Ekiti State Deputy Governor, Chief Monisade Afuye; Commissioner for Trade and Investment, Mrs. Omotayo Adeola; and former Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs. Peju Babafemi, lauded the initiative as a deliberate step toward unlocking the potential of women, fostering self-reliance, and creating economic opportunities at the grassroots level.

They stressed that the programme would not only uplift individual households but also contribute to the larger goal of driving local economic development and reducing unemployment in the state.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, some women expressed gratitude to Senator Tinubu, the Office of the SDGs, and the Ekiti State Government, pledging to put the items to good use. They described the gesture as timely, especially in the face of current economic challenges, and assured that the support would enable them to expand their businesses and provide better for their families.

The Renewed Hope Initiative is one of the flagship programmes of Senator Tinubu, designed to complement the Federal Government’s policies on poverty alleviation, women empowerment, and sustainable development.

Group Hails Oyebanji for Sustaining Fayemi’s Legacy to Boost Ekiti IGR.

Group Hails Oyebanji for Sustaining Fayemi’s Legacy to Boost Ekiti IGR.

A grassroots mobilisation group in Ekiti State, Oyebanji Street Vanguard (OSV), has lauded Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji for leveraging the long-term development blueprint introduced by former Governor Kayode Fayemi to achieve a significant rise in the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

In a statement issued on Sunday by its Convener, HC Ade, the group noted that Ekiti’s IGR rose from N650 million to N2.3 billion monthly, placing the state among the best performers in the country. The figures, according to OSV, were contained in a circular released by the Joint Tax Board (JTB) during its 155th meeting held at Zuma Rock Resort, Suleja.

The JTB ranking also placed Niger and Ekiti States first in the 2023 Annual Growth Rate Ranking of internally generated revenues.

The group recalled that Fayemi, in October 2022, unveiled a 30-year development plan (2021–2050) for the state, rooted in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with focus areas including job creation, human capital development, agriculture, and rural development. It described the present economic progress as evidence of the continuity of governance.

OSV attributed the “sporadic increase” in Ekiti’s revenue to prudent management of resources, financial re-engineering, deployment of digital tools, and motivation of the revenue collection agency under Governor Oyebanji.

The group further commended the governor, his cabinet members, the Chairman of the Ekiti State Internal Revenue Service (EIRS), and residents for their contributions to the feat.

While urging Ekiti people to sustain their support for the present administration, the group cautioned against what it described as a return to “our Egypt,” insisting that political stability and continuity must be preserved.

“Forward ever, backward never,” the statement added.

OYEBANJI ONLY URGING PARTY FAITHFULS TO PROMOTE CREDIBLE INFORMATION DISSEMINATION.

OYEBANJI ONLY URGING PARTY FAITHFULS TO PROMOTE CREDIBLE INFORMATION DISSEMINATION.
…Trending Video, edited and a misrepresentation of facts.

My attention and that of the good people of Ekiti State has been drawn to social media circulation of the clips of Governor Abiodun Oyebanji while addressing the political forum of stakeholders of our great party, APC on 21st of August 2025

I know that Government is too decorous and may not want to dignify the bunkum with response it deserves, and that is the reason I decided to set the record straight for the sake of good and innocent people of the State and Nigerians in general.

It is unfortunate that an innocent attempt by the Governor to promote and make credible information of Government policies, programmes and activities accessible while addressing party loyalists at what was primarily a party affair could be edited to misrepresent the message.

For the avoidance of doubt, the gathering being addressed by the governor was that of our great party loyalists and because of that, loyalty and support of the party was very key.

Although it was not a surprise that some group of people that feed fat on lies and propaganda for their self-aggrandizement jumped on some edited part of the clips and gave it different meaning and colouration in order to discredit the Governor. For the upteenth time, the Ekiti State government has reiterated that it will not be perturbed by the shenanigans and blackmails of political jobbers.

The message to party loyalists was simply telling all stakeholders not to keep mum while fake news, misleading information, misrepresentation fly around claiming the aesthetics and legitimacy of news particularly on social media which is for all-comers or when did it become “out of line” to urge stakeholders to defend the party and government?

Hegemony of Party is embedded in it's member's loyalty made manifest in standing up for and in defense of the party and all it's apparatus! Its no gainsaying that Ekiti State through the state government is under the leadership of APC party and encouraging stakeholders to uphold it's uprightness by defending the government through proclamation of the good works of Governor Oyebanji which are already very obvious is a normal phenomenon in spite of efforts of blackmailers to bury the very same achievements they are benefiting from.

Ekiti State indigenes home and abroad are solidly behind the administration of Governor Biodun Oyebanji as was made manifest in their call for his second term bid on 23rd of July 2025 at Ado Ekiti. The over whelming turn out and support received by the governor that day has made him put his hands on the plough and not looking back.

I know for a fact that no matter how much the naysayers may try, the government of BAO remains unbothered and the Governor’s concentration remains continuously on delivering on the good governance through the mandate which Ekiti people have freely and fairly given him.

Postgraduate Programmes, Bedrock of Innovation — EKSU VC.

Postgraduate Programmes, Bedrock of Innovation — EKSU VC.
By Olamide Akinwumi

The Vice Chancellor of Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, Prof. Babatola Ayodele, has described postgraduate programmes in Nigerian universities as the bedrock of innovation and critical inquiry.

Prof. Ayodele stated this at the matriculation ceremony for newly admitted candidates into the regular, sandwich, and professional postgraduate programmes of the university for the 2024/2025 academic session. He was represented at the event by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Williams Adebayo.

Speaking at the ceremony, the VC charged the matriculants to cultivate a culture of rigorous research capable of addressing societal challenges. He urged them to go beyond theory and ensure their research outputs translate into solutions that would make real impact in Nigeria and beyond.

“The essence of postgraduate studies is not just about acquiring more certificates, but about nurturing critical thinkers and innovators who will provide answers to pressing global challenges like climate change, outbreaks of diseases, and other natural phenomena,” he said.

Ayodele also congratulated the students on their admission, noting that EKSU, which he described as the best state university in Nigeria, was committed to equipping them with the knowledge and environment needed to become “enigmas of great repute.”

The matriculation oath was administered by the Registrar, Mr. Ife Oluwole, after the formal presentation of candidates by the Provost, College of Postgraduate Studies, Prof. Babatope Oyewole.

Confirming the development in a statement on Friday the Deputy Registrar and Head, Directorate of Information & Corporate Affairs, Dr. Bode Olofinmuagun, said the university would continue to prioritise research and innovation in line with its vision of producing graduates who are solution–providers.
