Oyebanji hails residents as Ekiti tops fiscal transparency ranking.

The Governor of Ekiti State, Biodun Oyebanji, has commended residents of the state for their compliance with fiscal policies following the state’s ranking among the top-performing states in fiscal transparency in the country for the fourth quarter of 2025.

The ranking was contained in a report by BudgIT titled States Fiscal Transparency League (SFTL) Q4 2025.

According to the report, Ekiti was among nine states that achieved the highest score of 39 points, the maximum obtainable under the indicators assessed.

The report also noted that Ekiti maintained the top position throughout the 2025 fiscal year, attributing the performance to the state’s institutionalised transparency systems and consistent disclosure of fiscal information.

Governor Oyebanji, in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media, Yinka Oyebode, said the recognition reflects his administration’s commitment to development anchored on accountability and transparency.

He added that the state would continue to pursue its shared prosperity agenda while promoting accountability, transparency and citizen participation in governance.

The report stated that Ekiti’s performance highlights its proactive approach to financial disclosure and the digital accessibility of budget information.

It also advised the state to continue strengthening institutional mechanisms for sustained compliance, ensure real-time updates of fiscal data and enhance public engagement in budgetary processes to further promote accountability and public trust.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Information, Taiwo Olatunbosun, described the ranking as confirmation of the state government’s commitment to open governance, fiscal responsibility and accountable management of public resources.

He said the recognition reflects reforms implemented by the Oyebanji administration to ensure that government financial processes and spending remain transparent, accessible and open to public scrutiny.

Olatunbosun added that the state government has continued to publish quarterly budget

implementation reports, maintain functional fiscal data repositories and operate accessible procurement platforms in line with global best practices in public financial management.

He noted that the sustained ranking demonstrates that Ekiti has moved beyond periodic compliance to institutionalised transparency practices embedded within its governance structure.

Ekiti State Government has approved about N165m for reconstruction works at two special schools in the state.

The Commissioner for Information, Taiwo Olatunbosun, in a statement in Ado Ekiti on Thursday, listed the schools as Government Special School, Ido-Ekiti and Government Special School for the Deaf, Ikoro-Ekiti.

Speaking on decisions taken at the State Executive Council meeting on Wednesday, Olatunbosun said the council approved N85.73m for the Government Special School, Ido-Ekiti, covering the reconstruction of failed drainage systems and the concrete landscaping of driveways and walkways within the school premises.

Similarly, the government approved N88.94m for the Government Special School for the Deaf, Ikoro-Ekiti, where erosion had severely affected drainage channels, driveways, walkways, and parts of the school frontage.

He said, “The interventions are expected to restore critical infrastructure within the affected schools, improve the safety and accessibility of the facilities, and provide a more conducive learning environment for students, particularly those with special educational needs.

“The approval specifically covers the reconstruction of failed drainage systems and the concrete landscaping of driveways and walkways at the Government Special School, Ido-Ekiti, as well as the construction of a new culvert, drainage systems, and associated concrete works at the Government Special School for the Deaf, Ikoro-Ekiti.”

According to him, the interventions became necessary following the devastating impact of erosion on key infrastructure within the schools, including collapsed drainage channels, damaged walkways, compromised driveways, and in some cases, damaged perimeter fencing and assembly grounds.

These, he said, had significantly affected the learning environment and overall safety of students, particularly given the special needs of the pupils in the affected institutions.

The commissioner said the two projects “are to be executed within 16 weeks by the State Bureau of Special Projects through direct labour, given the urgency of the intervention and the need to minimise disruption to the learning activities of the students.”

The Ekiti State Government has presented promotion letters to more than 5,000 primary school teachers, including 231 head teachers who were elevated to Grade Level 16.

The promotions, announced at the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) headquarters in Ado-Ekiti, fulfilled a pledge by Governor Biodun Oyebanji to elevate primary school head teachers to the same grade level as their counterparts in the core civil service.

Presenting the letters to the beneficiaries, the Executive Chairman of SUBEB, Professor Femi Akinwumi, described the exercise as a significant milestone in the state’s education sector and a reflection of the administration’s commitment to improving the quality of basic education.

He revealed that this is the first time in the history of the state that head teachers in public primary schools would be promoted to Grade Level 16.

“Today marks a significant milestone in the education sector. This monumental event underscores the unwavering commitment of Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji’s administration to enhancing the quality of education in Ekiti State,” he said.

Akinwumi explained that the promotions were in recognition of the teachers’ dedication and outstanding service, noting that the move further demonstrates the government’s resolve to reward excellence in the teaching profession.

Congratulating the newly promoted teachers, he urged them to maintain high standards of professionalism and remain committed to their responsibilities in the classroom.

He described education as a key legacy for which Ekiti State is widely known and assured that the government would continue to strengthen the sector through improved welfare for teachers and sustained investment in education.

The SUBEB chairman also commended Governor Oyebanji for fulfilling his promise to elevate primary school head teachers to Grade Level 16, noting that the promotion of 231 head teachers marks the first time in the state’s public service history that primary school administrators would attain that level.

He added that Ekiti State has recorded one of the lowest rates of out-of-school children in Nigeria, attributing the achievement to government investments in learning infrastructure, teacher development and the creation of an enabling environment for education.

According to him, the promotions are expected to boost teachers’ morale and contribute to improved academic outcomes in primary schools across the state.

Also speaking at the event, the SUBEB Permanent Secretary, Michael Omolayo, congratulated the teachers and urged them to justify the gesture through improved performance and dedication.

“To whom much is given, much is required,” he said, encouraging the beneficiaries to redouble their efforts in delivering quality basic education.

Omolayo also commended the governor for prioritising the education sector and implementing policies aimed at improving teachers’ welfare and professional standing.

Some of the teachers who received their promotion letters expressed gratitude to the governor, describing the gesture as unprecedented.

They pledged to remain committed to their duties and to continue delivering quality education to pupils across the state.

Ahead of the forthcoming Ekiti State House of Assembly elections, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has taken a decisive step toward unifying its front in the Ayekire/Gbonyin Constituency. In a unanimous decision by party leaders and executives, Hon. Olalekan Stephen Ijidale has been affirmed as the consensus candidate to fly the party’s flag.

The announcement, made on March 12, 2026, has sent waves of optimism through the constituency and marks a strategic move by the APC to ensure a formidable outing in the general elections.

Reacting to the affirmation, Hon. Ijidale expressed profound appreciation to the Governor of Ekiti State, His Excellency, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji. Ijidale described the Governor’s role as pivotal, citing his "uncommon support and encouragement" as a driving force for the party’s internal cohesion.

"I remain humbled by this trust and opportunity to serve. This is not just a victory for me, but a testament to the unity of our great party under the visionary leadership of Governor Oyebanji," Ijidale stated.

The consensus was reached following extensive consultations with key stakeholders in the Ayekire/Gbonyin local government area. Hon. Ijidale specifically lauded the leadership of Hon. Femi Awe, the Commissioner for Rural and Community Development, for his unwavering support and leadership, and Hon. Tokunbo Akinyeye, the LGA party chairman, who presided over the process that prioritized the collective interest of the people.

The candidate also extended his gratitude to the party executives at the grassroots and state level, noting that their confidence in his capacity would be met with dedicated service and representation.

Looking ahead to the main polls, Hon. Ijidale sounded a note of confidence, declaring that the APC is poised for victory. He emphasized that his mission in the House of Assembly would be centered on progress, development, the wellbeing of the people, and continued growth, aligning the constituency’s needs with the broader "Shared Prosperity" agenda of the Oyebanji administration.

"By the grace of Almighty God, we shall emerge victorious in the general election," Ijidale added. "We will continue to work tirelessly for the development and wellbeing of our people. I thank you all for your support and your prayers."

With the backing of both the state executive and local party heavyweights, Hon. Ijidale enters the race with a powerful mandate.
