EKITI GOVT, TRACE PROJECT PRESENT N10 MILLION IRRIGATION KITS TO COCOA FARMERS.

EKITI GOVT, TRACE PROJECT PRESENT N10 MILLION IRRIGATION KITS TO COCOA FARMERS.
…As Ekiti Targets Position Among Nigeria’s Leading Cocoa Producing States.

The Ekiti State Government, in collaboration with the TRACE Project, has presented kickstart irrigation pumps worth about ₦10 million to 28 cocoa nursery operators across the Local Government Areas of the State.

The Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Mr. Ebenezer Boluwade, who presented the irrigation kits in Ado-Ekiti, said the selected farmers had earlier undergone training on best practices in raising cocoa seedlings to enhance cocoa production in the State.

Boluwade explained that the State Government has developed a 10-year policy plan aimed at positioning Ekiti among the top three cocoa producing states in Nigeria, with the long-term ambition of making the State the largest cocoa producing state in the country, surpassing the record set during the era of late Chief Obafemi Awolowo in the old Ondo State.

According to him, the State will require about 10 million cocoa seedlings to achieve this target, hence the need to train and empower cocoa nursery operators who will play a crucial role in producing quality seedlings for farmers.

The Commissioner commended the TRACE Project for its support towards achieving the State Government’s cocoa development agenda and urged the beneficiaries to make the best use of the irrigation kits to support the vision of boosting cocoa production in Ekiti.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Mr. Babatope Ojo, appreciated the Federal Government, the administration of Governor Biodun Oyebanji, and the TRACE Project for the initiative, noting that the intervention would further accelerate efforts to increase cocoa production in the State.

He advised the beneficiaries not to trivialise the gesture but to utilise the equipment judiciously to improve their livelihoods while contributing to the State Government’s agricultural development plan.

Also speaking, the TRACE Project Representative, Mr. Adedigba Fisayo, revealed that the project has trained and provided inputs to over 15,000 farmers since its commencement in Ekiti State in 2022, adding that Ekiti is one of the six states selected for the project in Nigeria.

He explained that the 28 beneficiaries were carefully selected in 2025 and trained to become cocoa nursery operators who will support the State in expanding cocoa production.

Adedigba cautioned the beneficiaries against diverting the materials for purposes other than those intended, stressing that the project reserves the right to withdraw the items if misused.

In their remarks, the TRACE Project Desk Officer at the Ministry, Mr. Akerele Olalekan, and one of the beneficiaries from Ilumoba-Ekiti, Mr. Onamadi Michael, expressed appreciation to the State Government and the TRACE Project for the support.

They pledged that the beneficiaries would make judicious use of the equipment to support massive cocoa production in Ekiti State.

The Ekiti State First Lady also sensitised the gathering on the importance of obtaining their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and supporting the re-election of Governor Oyebanji and President Tinubu, noting that the President has demonstrated commitment to the development of Ekiti State.

Agriculture Boost as Ekiti Approves N136.2m Dormitories for Farm Settlement.

Agriculture Boost as Ekiti Approves N136.2m Dormitories for Farm Settlement.

The Ekiti State Government has approved the sum of ₦136.2 million for the construction of three buildings and dormitories at the Gede Farm Settlement in the Oye Local Government Area of the state.

The Gede Farm Settlement, with a total land size of over 4,000 hectares, was one of the settlements established by the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, during the defunct Western Region.

The government said the approval is part of the efforts of the Oyebanji-led administration to strengthen agricultural development, restore life and activities to farm settlements, and create new ones as conceptualised by the late sage.

This was announced in a statement issued by the Ekiti State Commissioner for Information, Taiwo Olatunbosun, who said it was approved during the State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Biodun Oyebanji.

He explained that the project forms part of the government’s broader strategy to revitalise agricultural facilities and promote rural development.

According to the statement, the construction project aligns with the administration’s commitment to strengthening the agricultural sector, which remains one of the key pillars of the state’s development agenda.

Olatunbosun said the state government has, over the years, maintained a strong focus on agriculture and rural development, noting that sustained investments in the sector have helped to lay a solid foundation for inclusive socio-economic growth and shared prosperity across the state.

He stated that several initiatives introduced by the government to boost agricultural productivity, especially the ‘Bring Back Our Youths in Agriculture’ programme, have been impactful and transformative, earning commendation from stakeholders and development partners across the country.

“As part of the ongoing efforts to consolidate the gains already recorded in the agricultural sector, the government has resolved to reconstruct three of the twenty abandoned and dilapidated buildings located within the Gede Farm Settlement,” the statement said.

The commissioner explained that the rehabilitation and development of the facilities are expected to revitalise activities within the settlement, provide improved infrastructure for young farmers and agricultural workers, and enhance the overall productivity of the farm settlement.

He added that the project would also help improve living and working conditions for farmers operating in the area while creating a more conducive environment for agribusiness and agricultural investment.

According to the government, the construction will be executed through direct labour and is scheduled to be completed within six months.

The initiative, Olatunbosun said, further demonstrates the commitment of the Ekiti State Government to strengthening agricultural infrastructure, promoting rural development, and expanding sustainable opportunities for farmers and agribusiness operators across the state.

He reaffirmed the government’s determination to continue investing in programmes and infrastructure that would boost food production, improve rural livelihoods, and accelerate economic growth in the state.

HONOURABLE OLUWATUYI, A GOLDEN REFERENCE POINT OF RESPONSIBLE LEADERSHIP AND SUSTAINABLE IMPACT.

HONOURABLE OLUWATUYI, A GOLDEN REFERENCE POINT OF RESPONSIBLE LEADERSHIP AND SUSTAINABLE IMPACT.
    By Asubiojo G . O

In every democratic society, leadership is not merely about occupying an office; it is fundamentally about fulfilling a sacred trust.

The electorate, in casting their votes, entrust their collective hopes, aspirations, and future into the hands of the chosen representative. Such leadership demands vision, humility, compassion, and visible developmental strides that speak louder than promises.

Within this philosophical and humane framework of governance, the leadership trajectory of Honourable Oluwatuyi Oluwagbenga , popularly known as CHENCO, stands tall as a shining example of responsible public service, pragmatic administration, and people-centered governance.

Honourable Oluwatuyi has demonstrated that leadership is first measured by the depth of human relationships before the height of infrastructural achievements. A leader who understands people will naturally understand development. His relationship with constituents—irrespective of social background, colour, gender, or class—has been marked by humility, accessibility, and sincere concern for collective welfare.

Among staff of the Local Government, traditional institutions, youths, and community stakeholders across Igede Ekiti and Awo Ekiti, his leadership style has consistently been described as warm, inclusive, and compassionate. This admirable trait mirrors the leadership philosophy of his mentor, Abiodun Oyebanji, widely respected as a symbol of humility and people-oriented governance in Ekiti State.

Beyond his admirable human relations, Honourable Oluwatuyi has proven himself as a practical administrator who understands the importance of efficient governance. Under his leadership, available resources have been judiciously managed to improve the operational efficiency of the Local Government.

Refurbishment and overhauling of official vehicles for top Local Government functionaries to enhance mobility and administrative effectiveness.

Provision of essential official materials and equipment necessary for the smooth day-to-day running of the Local Government system.

Monthly grants and support to security agencies to strengthen local security architecture.

Periodic bush-combing operations by security operatives aimed at preventing criminal activities within the communities.

These administrative measures may appear quiet, but they form the silent backbone of effective governance, ensuring that institutions function efficiently for the benefit of the people.

At a time when economic realities continue to challenge many households, Honourable Oluwatuyi has demonstrated uncommon sensitivity to the welfare of citizens, through  targeted interventions, he has consistently shown that leadership must carry a compassionate heart.

    His administration has implemented:
Welfare support packages for vulnerable citizens to cushion economic hardship.

Employment opportunities through the engagement of 20 casual staff within the Local Government system.

Solar-powered street lights installed at strategic locations to enhance security and nighttime economic activities.

Distribution of home solar lighting systems to over twenty indigent households, bringing light and hope into homes that once lived in darkness.

These initiatives reflect a leadership philosophy that believes development must touch lives directly.

In infrastructure development, Honourable Oluwatuyi’s administration has left visible and lasting footprints across the communities.

Construction of a Post-Natal Delivery Ward at Aaye Street Health Centre, strengthening maternal and child healthcare services.

Renovation of the Traditional Council Chambers, preserving the dignity and operational efficiency of the traditional institution.

Rehabilitation of several boreholes to provide portable drinking water to residents of Igede Ekiti and Awo Ekiti.

Desilting of drains and culverts across communities to prevent flooding and ensure environmental safety.

These projects are not mere structures of bricks and cement; they are monuments of responsive governance and community development.

Recognizing agriculture as both the heritage and economic backbone of the people, Honourable Oluwatuyi has strategically invested in agricultural development and natural resource management.

    His initiatives include:
Construction of standard piggery pens for commercial pig production, aimed at generating Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) for the Local Government.

Cultivation of yam on dedicated farmland to support local food production.

Nursing of thousands of cocoa and oil palm seedlings to encourage agricultural expansion and support farmers in the region.

These efforts demonstrate foresight—combining traditional agricultural practices with modern economic strategies to strengthen local prosperity.

Perhaps one of the most inspiring aspects of Honourable Oluwatuyi’s administration is his strong commitment to youth development and educational empowerment.

Understanding that the future of any society lies in the hands of its young people, he has undertaken several impactful initiatives:

Sponsorship of JAMB forms for qualified students across Igede and Awo Ekiti, helping them pursue higher education.

Distribution of school bags, shoes, and stipends to returning primary and secondary school students.

Cash support for different categories of youths to encourage entrepreneurship and self-reliance.

Provision of casual employment opportunities for over 30 youths both within the Local Government and beyond, these
interventions affirm a simple truth: when youths are empowered, communities prosper.

When leadership combines humility, vision, compassion, and measurable achievements, it becomes more than governance—it becomes a legacy.

Honourable Oluwatuyi Oluwagbenga Stephen (CHENCO) has, within a relatively short period, established a governance model rooted in service, accountability, and inclusive development.

His administration has demonstrated that with sincerity of purpose and prudent management of resources, meaningful transformation is possible even at the grassroots level.

His achievements in human relations, governance, infrastructure, agriculture, youth empowerment, and welfare interventions have collectively created a golden reference point for grassroots leadership.

Therefore, in the spirit of continuity, stability, and sustained development, it becomes both reasonable and justifiable to affirm that Honourable Oluwatuyi Oluwagbenga Stephen deserves the opportunity of a second term in office—to consolidate these remarkable gains and to further deepen the dividends of democracy for the good people he faithfully serves.

For leadership that listens, leadership that acts, and leadership that delivers—
CHENCO remains a beacon of hope, progress, and responsible governance. ✨
