By Olamide Akinwumi

The Vice Chancellor of Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, Prof. Babatola Ayodele, has described postgraduate programmes in Nigerian universities as the bedrock of innovation and critical inquiry.

Prof. Ayodele stated this at the matriculation ceremony for newly admitted candidates into the regular, sandwich, and professional postgraduate programmes of the university for the 2024/2025 academic session. He was represented at the event by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Williams Adebayo.

Speaking at the ceremony, the VC charged the matriculants to cultivate a culture of rigorous research capable of addressing societal challenges. He urged them to go beyond theory and ensure their research outputs translate into solutions that would make real impact in Nigeria and beyond.

“The essence of postgraduate studies is not just about acquiring more certificates, but about nurturing critical thinkers and innovators who will provide answers to pressing global challenges like climate change, outbreaks of diseases, and other natural phenomena,” he said.

Ayodele also congratulated the students on their admission, noting that EKSU, which he described as the best state university in Nigeria, was committed to equipping them with the knowledge and environment needed to become “enigmas of great repute.”

The matriculation oath was administered by the Registrar, Mr. Ife Oluwole, after the formal presentation of candidates by the Provost, College of Postgraduate Studies, Prof. Babatope Oyewole.

Confirming the development in a statement on Friday the Deputy Registrar and Head, Directorate of Information & Corporate Affairs, Dr. Bode Olofinmuagun, said the university would continue to prioritise research and innovation in line with its vision of producing graduates who are solution–providers.

ANOTHER COORDINATED SOCIAL MEDIA ATTACK ON GOVERNOR OYEBANJI UNCOVERED.

ANOTHER COORDINATED SOCIAL MEDIA ATTACK ON GOVERNOR OYEBANJI UNCOVERED.

This is to alert the general public that another grand plot, by some opposition elements, of a coordinated social media attack against the person of the Governor of Ekiti State, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, ahead of the Governorship primaries scheduled for October 27th, have been uncovered.

It was gathered that over 150 persons across various social media platforms, including notable influencers at the national level, have been paid to carry out the attack beginning from next week.

The sponsors of this grand plot, sadly, are members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), who are bent on heating up the polity in a bid to make a cheap political point. Part of their grand design, as uncovered, is to discredit the Governor, as well as some key figures within the party and the Government, through spurious and malicious allegations, including forged documents and AI generated graphics.

Those behind this planned social media onslaught are the same people who clandestinely  launched a social media attack against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu last week, using one of the federal roads in the state- the Itawure-Aramoko-Igede road as an alibi.

Whereas the poorly coordinated social media attack on the President failed woefully because the vast majority of Ekiti people, and indeed the general public, rejected the narratives. These characters went back to the drawing board and came up with another action plan, which include inducing 150 social media attackers with huge sum of money (in foreign currency) to carry out the nefarious act of character assassination and cheap blackmail through online trending of forged documents.

The Government has chosen to alert the public on this grand plot in order to avert likely breach of the peace, recourse to self-help and unnecessary tension in the polity which are the main intention of the masterminds of this ignoble plot.

Unlike previous sponsored media attacks on the Governor and the State Government that were treated with kids glove, this new plot would be treated with the seriousness it deserves. Hence, the general public, security agencies and all relevant institutions are hereby put on notice.

All political gladiators, especially those aspiring to public offices are advised to maintain some decorum and play according to set rules and regulations as we approach the electoral season.

The Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji administration welcomes constructive criticism and is ready to provide sincere answers to genuine enquiries about governance and the management of our commonwealth. All Aspirants are also urged to make their campaigns and public engagements issue-based, and stay clear of any sponsored social media attack on the person of the Governor as well as sponsored violent attacks on any citizen of the State.

As Secretary to the Committee for the Creation of Ekiti State, Governor Oyebanji understands the desires and aspirations of the founding fathers for a united people working in one accord to ensure peace, progress and development in Ekiti. This has been the guiding principles of his administration.

Ekiti 2026: OSV Tells APC Members to Revalidate Cards, Urges Public to Register for PVC.

Ekiti 2026: OSV Tells APC Members to Revalidate Cards, Urges Public to Register for PVC.

The Oyebanji Street Vanguard (OSV), a grassroots mobilisation group loyal to Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, has asked members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State to revalidate their party membership ahead of the October 27, 2025 governorship primaries.

The group also advised the general public, particularly those of voting age, to register for their Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) in readiness for the governorship election.

Convener of the movement, HC Ade, in a statement on Friday, said only financially up-to-date members who revalidate their membership would be eligible to vote or be voted for during the primaries, in line with Article 9.3(1) of the APC constitution.

He stressed that possession of a valid PVC remained the only legal requirement for every eligible citizen to participate in the governorship poll and other elections in the state.

Ade noted that PVC applicants must provide details such as name, date of birth, phone number, ward, polling unit, home address, and occupation or student status, with physical presence mandatory for biometric capturing. For replacements or transfers, he said applicants must present either their old card or the personal details used for the previous registration.

“The revalidation exercise will not only keep APC members up-to-date but also make them eligible for the party’s primary election. Likewise, obtaining a PVC will empower the general public of voting age to exercise their civil rights and ensure continuity of good governance under the APC-led administration of Governor Oyebanji,” the statement read.

Ade urged both APC members and eligible residents not to be left out, warning that failure to comply would mean ineligibility to participate in the political process.
