Ekiti State Government has established an agricultural hub at Erifun along the Afe Babalola University/ Federal Polytechnic road in Ado Ekiti where interested youths can be trained and empowered to become self-reliant and possible employers of labour.

The State Commissioner for Information, Rt. Hon. Taiwo Olatunbosun who made this known during a tour of the facilities at the Livestock Development Center site of the farm settlement, said that the development was brought to fruition in partnership with various non-governmental organizations and notable foundations including the Master Card Foundation and Syngenta Foundation.

Reiterating the commitment of the administration of Governor Biodun Oyebanji to the welfare of residents particularly the youths, Rt. Hon. Olatunbosun explained that the scheme was strategically planned to provide young, educated farmers with a comfortable standard of living and partly solve the problem of unemployment.

In his remarks, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Mr. Ebenezer Boluwade said that over sixty graduate trainees are currently undergoing physical activities at the center, adding that 37 of the trainees are under the Ekiti Broilers Production Scheme while the remaining 25 trainees under the Ekiti Youth in Urban Farming are into vegetables production and horticulture.

Stressing that the state agricultural assets are being optimized to guarantee food security while expanding economic opportunities, Mr. Boluwade pledged that the State Government would not only provide land for participants but would help facilitate grants and loans for successful take-off.

According to him, only five hectares has been cleared out of the almost 200 hectares available land for the pilot scheme.

Boluwade said that the facility can boast of a dam that would ensure availability of water and guarantee all-year round crop production, adding that the Master Card Foundation assisted with the training of the 25 youths in Urban Farming under a Training of Trainers (ToT) model.

Assuring of ready market for produce from the farms, Boluwade said the first batch of 9,000 broilers harvested after 6weeks and weighing an average of 2.5kg were immediately carted away in a trailer by already arranged waiting buyer, adding that the 10,000 chicks currently in the pens already have buyers waiting to take them without the trainees going through the stress of looking for buyers.

The Commissioner also said that the State government has almost finished the renovation of five buildings in the facility that can conveniently accommodate 40 trainees and workers when necessary.

He promised that the programme would be extended to accommodate as many youths as possible in the State adding that there is already arrangement on ground on the possibility of starting the scheme in Ikere Ekiti.

Two of the participants, Miss Abosede Olayemi and Mr. Olasunkanmi Olonitola lauded the State Government for the initiative and promised to judiciously utilize the knowledge they acquire during the training.

"SAVE OUR SOULS": Urgent Plea for Poly Road Safety with One-Month Ultimatum.

In a passionate call for swift action, students from Federal Polytechnic Ado Ekiti, under the guidance of their former Students Union Government President, Comr Olubodun Abiodun Johnson, have issued a compelling plea for help to address the perilous conditions on Poly Road. The plea, aptly titled "SAVE OUR SOULS," articulates a series of urgent demands:

The heart of their plea revolves around an earnest appeal to both the Federal and Ekiti State governments: a prompt ban on trailers using Poly Road. The students argue that these large vehicles have contributed to a worrisome number of accidents, inflicting injuries and jeopardizing lives. They emphasize that this ban is an absolute imperative for the safety of all road users.

The students also advocate for a swift extension of Poly Road, underlining that this extension is not a luxury but a life-saving necessity. Their objective is unambiguous: to ensure the safety of all travelers and prevent further accidents and injuries.

With unwavering determination, the students have imposed a one-month ultimatum on both the State and Federal Governments to take decisive action in response to their pressing concerns. In the absence of a swift response, they stand fully prepared to escalate their efforts to ensure their demands are not left unaddressed.

To bolster their cause and galvanize support from influential stakeholders, the students have reached out to a consortium of prominent organizations. These include the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), NANS Southwest, NANS Ekiti, the National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS), and the Youth Body. Collaborating with the Student Union Government of Federal Polytechnic Ado Ekiti, they aim to forge a unified front that can effectively convey their urgent message to those capable of catalyzing change.

In their concluding remarks, the students underscore the urgency of the situation. Lives hang in the balance, and the future of an entire generation hinges on the resolution of the Poly Road safety predicament. Unified and resolute, they wholeheartedly implore the support of all stakeholders to bring about concrete change. Their message is unequivocal: "Save Poly Road, save lives!" 🇳🇬🛣️ #SavePolyRoad #SafetyFirst

The collective call to action by the students of Federal Polytechnic Ado Ekiti, along with their dedicated leader, Comr Olubodun Abiodun Johnson, is a poignant reminder of the power of a united community advocating for the safety and well-being of all.
