Ekiti State Enhances Inclusive Education with Two-Day Teacher Training Initiative.

Ekiti State Enhances Inclusive Education with Two-Day Teacher Training Initiative.

In a significant stride towards promoting inclusive education, the Ekiti State Government has launched a two-day training program for teachers from both special and mainstream schools. This initiative is a collaborative effort between the Adolescent Girl's Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) and the Office of the Special Adviser on Special Education and Social Inclusion.

The training commenced on January 31 at the Government Special School for the Blind in Ikere-Ekiti and will run through February 1, 2025. This program has seen 130 educators, including participants from Ekiti Parapo College in Ido Ekiti and Babatope Memorial High School in Ikoro Ekiti, engage in specialized sessions designed to enhance their teaching capabilities.

To ensure that mainstream teachers work effectively with secondary students from special schools, 60 educators from these schools were specifically invited to participate in the training. This initiative aligns with the unique educational arrangement in which secondary students from the Government Special Schools attend regular classes while residing as boarding students in the special schools’ hostels. Specifically, secondary students at the Government Special School in Ikoro attend Ebenezer Babatope Memorial School, while the students from the Government Special School in Ido are enrolled at Ekiti Parapo College. This inclusive approach ensures that secondary students have access to quality education alongside their peers in regular classrooms while still receiving the specialized support they require.

The theme for the workshop is "Technology-Driven Lessons and Inclusive Teaching Strategies," which underscores the Ekiti State Government’s commitment to integrating students with disabilities into regular classroom environments and ensuring they receive the quality education they deserve alongside their peers.

As articulated by Princess Adetoun Agboola, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Special Education and Social Inclusion, this initiative aligns with Governor Biodun Oyebanji's vision for advancing inclusive education. "The teachers need to measure up in terms of their practice, what they offer, and the experiences they give the children. That’s why we are engaging them in this capacity-building exercise," Agboola noted, emphasizing the importance of equipping educators with the necessary skills for effective teaching in inclusive settings.

The training emphasizes two crucial areas: adapting technology for students with disabilities and developing inclusive teaching strategies. Participants are being exposed to innovative teaching tools to create a technology-driven learning atmosphere in classrooms.

A total of 40 educators from each of the three special schools in Ekiti State participated in the training, while an additional ten teachers were randomly selected from mainstream schools to ensure a wider impact. This collaborative approach aims to cultivate a more inclusive educational framework across the state.

Beyond the training sessions, Agboola highlighted ongoing public enlightenment campaigns aimed at combating the stigmatization and discrimination faced by persons with disabilities. Such advocacy efforts are crucial for fostering a more inclusive society that values diversity and promotes belonging for all students.

Mrs. Yewande Adesua, the Project Coordinator for AGILE, commended Governor Oyebanji’s dedication to improving the welfare of persons with disabilities. She noted that continuous investment in teacher training and educational infrastructure is essential for long-term progress in special education in Ekiti State.

This capacity-building training is part of a broader commitment to strengthen the inclusion policy and sustain high-quality education for secondary students with disabilities in the region. This two-day program marks a significant step forward in ensuring that all secondary students, regardless of their abilities, have access to effective and inclusive education in Ekiti State.

Airport Project, Great Testimony to Oyebanji's Thirst for Devt - Onijan.
.....as Ijan community hails govt's rural devt policy.

A traditional ruler in Ekiti State and the Onijan of Ijan Ekiti, in Gbonyin Local Government Area, Oba Adebanji Aladesuyi, has described the completion of the Ekiti State International Agro-allied Cargo Airport as a loud testimony to Governor Biodun Oyebanji's desire to lift the state out of poverty and infrastructure deficit.

In the same vein, the monarch, lauded Governor Oyebanji for paying the compensations to Ijan farmers, whose lands were acquired to effect the airport project.

The traditional ruler gave the commendation in Ado Ekiti, on Thursday, while leading a delegation from his community to interface with the Ekiti State Deputy Governor, Chief Mrs. Monisade Afuye on the progress of his town.

A statement signed by the Special Assistant on Media to the Deputy Governor, Olakiitan Victor Ogunje, said the monarch showered encomiums on the governor for completing the airport project speedily, saying the facility will surely boost the local economy of his community when fully operational.

"Our people are so happy, essentially for that Airport project that has been completed. In most cases, a gigantic project like this was often being abandoned the way some governments have done in the past, but this government defied this bad trend and completed it.

"It is not only the airport, even the General Hospital in Ijan Ekiti is better than when it was established some years back. The renovation carried out on the facility has given it a facelift.

"We have also got some solar streetlights to bring better illumination and nightlife. We are grateful that the dualisation of Ado- Ijan- Ikare road has begun, among other areas that we have benefited from this government . My people are grateful to you", the monarch said.

Presenting the town's requests, the monarch, appealed to the government to provide more transformers to the community for better electricity supply that will attract investments, saying only two out of the six transformers in the town are functional.

To avert crisis and eliminate unwarranted extortion, Oba Aladesuyi, urged Governor Oyebanji to eliminate bulk and estimated electricity billings in the town, saying this was causing a lot of rancour and suspicion in the community.

He appealed to government for the construction of Ijan-Ikere road to expose the agriculture potentials of the region known for the production of economic crops like cocoa and kolanut.

For better protection of the town's heritage, Oba Aladesuyi urged  the government to help in the perimeter fencing of the Onijan Palace to prevent unnecessary encroachment and incursion.

The monarch also called for the completion of the skills acquisition centre in the town, where youths can acquired vocations and entrepreneurial trainings that can enhance their potentials and  curtail crime.

"We also want the market stalls to be renovated and expanded, so that our women and market men can have more spaces to operate in the market".

In the area of security, the traditional ruler called for more personnel to man the police station built  in the town for improved security and reduction of social vices.

"We appeal to government to consider all these projects, so that the socio economic lives of my people can change for better. We are with this government, we will continue to support you to succeed", the monarch pledged.

For improved scholarship, the traditional ruler called for expeditious renovation of some dilapidated buildings at Saint Paul's and Saint Sila's Anglican Primary schools in the town, while new structures should be provided to accommodate more pupils.

Lending his voice, a community leader and prominent member of the All Progressives Congress, Chief Ropo Adesanya, commended Oyebanji for championing robust rural development programme, urging the government to help in the dredging of Eri Stream in Ijan Ekiti, for improved ecological control.

However, the Chairman of the Gbonyin Local Council Development Area, Hon. Oluwadamilare Ajayi, said governor Oyebanji has approved funds for the grading of rural and community roads in the LCDA, while efforts are on to ensure the schools and market stalls are renovated.

In his response, Mrs Afuye commended the community for partnering government to fasttrack development across the state,  promising to convey all their demands to the governor for expeditious action.

On the apprehension raised over electricity billings, Mrs Afuye stated that the government is already working with the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) on how to ensure that prepaid Meters are made available to the people to phase out the regime of estimated and bulk billings.

"We need you and the entire community to help the government. The government can't do everything. Please, help us appeal to your elite and other well meaning indigenes to also contribute in providing some of the facilities in your town.

"Governor Oyebanji sought the votes of Ekiti people with the expectation that he would make their lives better. I want to assure you that  we won't disappoint you. Even some of your requests had already been taken care of through the council going by the account rendered by your LCDA Chairman".

Ekiti begins mass vaccination of livestock against anthrax, others.
By Abiodun Nejo

Ekiti State Government has begun mass vaccination of livestock across the state to protect animals from zoonotic diseases including Anthrax.

The state Commissioner for Agriculture, Ebenezer Boluwade, on Tuesday, said the vaccination was being held under the auspices of the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project, a project of the World Bank in conjunction with the state government.

Boluwade, who spoke at Gaa Alhaji Bayo along Igede – Aramoko Road, Aramoko Ekiti during the official flag-off of the Anthrax Spore Vaccination in Ekiti State, described the exercise as “a proactive measure to prevent the spread of Anthrax disease, which can have devastating consequences on our livestock population and the economy”.

He stressed the state government’s commitment to protecting livestock and ensuring that citizens had access to safe and healthy food.

He added that the state government through L-PRES had made available 100,000 doses of Anthrax vaccines to be administered free of charge to animals across the 16 local government areas of the state.

He said, “This initiative is a critical step towards preventing the outbreak of anthrax disease in our dear state and ensuring the well-being of our livestock. The Governor Biodun Oyebanji administration is committed to actualising its vision of making Ekiti State a hub for agricultural excellence.

“We are working tirelessly to create an enabling environment for agribusiness to thrive. This vaccination exercise is a testament to our dedication to the health and productivity of our livestock.

“The administration is deeply committed to using agriculture as a catalyst for industrialisation, food security, and economic prosperity. We have implemented various initiatives to transform agriculture from its current mainly subsistence to large-scale commercial enterprise.”

L-PRESS State Project Coordinator, Olayinka Adedipe, said the initiative is to make sure that we try as much as possible to prevent diseases most especially the zoonotic diseases that are very deadly to affect our animals in the state.

Adedipe urged cattle, goat and sheep owners in the various communities to present their animals for the ongoing Anthrax vaccination.

He said, “Anthrax is a deadly zoonotic disease that affects both animal and human beings.”

The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture, Ebenezer Ojo, said the vaccination exercise aimed at preventing the outbreak of Anthrax disease in Ekiti State “Is proof to our commitment to ensuring the well-being of our livestock, promoting food security, and safeguarding public health”.

He said, “The vaccination exercise will target cattle, goats and sheep, and will be conducted in various locations across the state. We have put in place measures to ensure that the exercise is carried out efficiently and effectively.”

He called on livestock owners and stakeholders to cooperate with the team of veterinarians and animal health professionals, who would be conducting the free vaccination.

Devise Starategies to Tackle Rising Land Dispute in Communities, Ekiti Govt Tasks Monarchs.

Devise Starategies to Tackle Rising Land Dispute in Communities, Ekiti Govt Tasks Monarchs.
….mediates in Ilomu/Esure land tussle.

The Ekiti State Government has appealed to traditional rulers across the 140 towns in the state to synergise and form a strong coalition to stem the spiralling inter- city land tussles being witnessed in some communities.

The government posited that with love and unity among traditional rulers, some of the stroppy boundary crises being experienced in the towns would have been resolved before snowballing into violence and bloodshed.

The Deputy Governor said this in Ado Ekiti, on Tuesday, while brokering truce in a land dispute between Esure and Ilomu Ekiti, in Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area of Ekiti State.

The government’s intervention stemmed from an accusation raised through petitions written by the two communities laying claim to the ownership of a parcel of land located at a border area between the two contiguous communities.

Presiding over the matter at a parley with the community leaders, Mrs Afuye, in a statement signed by her Special Assistant on Media, Victor Ogunje, appealed to Elesure of Esure Ekiti, Oba Adebanji Ajibola and his counterpart at Ilomu, Oba Oluwadamilare Omobiire to meet and fashion out ways to resolve the prolonged land crisis between the two towns.

Specifically, Mrs Afuye, appealed to Oba Ajibola to allow Ilomu youths , who had cut some log of trees on that contentious portion of land for personal use to remove them to prevent the situation from affecting their businesses.

However, the Deputy Governor mandated the members of the Ekiti State Boundary Technical Committee to revisit the place to ascertain the quantum of land involved and carry out appropriate demarcation that will bring lasting solution to the recurring bedlam.

Mrs Afuye rejected the suggestion that Awo-Esure-Ifaki Road should be used to demarcate the town, saying the land from each town, had extended and interwoven across the highway, and this she said will make the application of such solution impossible.

The Deputy Governor added that the autonomy adopted by government to create new communities was a policy geared towards developing the state and this shouldn’t be a source of friction among communities.

“The issue of land shouldn’t be allowed to divide us. Our fore fathers who founded those communities didn’t bother about the ownership of lands, but only considered love, unity and togetherness. Allow this spirit to guide you.

“You are interwoven, either by marriage or any other consideration. You can’t afford to fight yourselves. We can’t have a perfect demarcation and that is why the spirit of give and take should come into play in this matter”.

In her verdict further, Mrs Afuye stated that th fact that some Esure indigenes had bought part of the land and paid to Eleku family of Ilomu to build their houses lent credence to the fact that the area under contention belongs to Ilomu Ekiti.

In his submission, the Olomu of Ilomu Ekiti, Oba Omobiire, said the land under contention belongs to his community from time immemorial, and that all the log of trees cut by his people that stoked the controversy was within their rights.

“I want the government to intervene and demarcate the land. It seems the internal mechanism to be used to resolve the matter had failed to yield result only the government can achieve any meaningful mileage on this issue. We are for peace and on peace will stand”.

The monarch stated that his people planted economic trees like cocoa, kolanut and plantain on the land, which he said had existed for decades before Esure Ekiti started claiming the area.

He said the Forest Guard operatives had visited the land and made inquiries over the ownership, which he claimed favoured his town because of ownership of economic trees in the area.

At the parley, the Elesure of Esure Ekiti, Oba Ajibola, accused Ilomu people of intimidating his people over the land with military personnel, describing this as unacceptable because it was capable of triggering violence.

Oba Ajibola insisted that the land belongs to his people and was only leased to an Ilomu indigene for farming, this he said prompted him to stop those who cut trees for building purposes from removing them.

OYEBANJI WELCOMES EKSU'S RATING AS NIGERIA'S BEST STATE VARSITY.

OYEBANJI WELCOMES EKSU'S RATING AS NIGERIA'S BEST STATE VARSITY.
….Congratulates Council,  Management on the Enviable Feat.

Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, has expressed his delight with the emergence of Ekiti State University (EKSU) as the leading State University in Nigeria.

EKSU also secured the 12th position out of 270 universities in Nigeria (both public and private) according to a comprehensive ranking list published by Times Higher Education rating for 2025.

Governor Oyebanji, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media, Yinka Oyebode, congratulated the   university’s Chancellor, Dr Tunji Olowolafe, for his support and commitment towards the development of the University. He also congratulated the Governing Council of the University led by Prof Akin Oyebode and the management led by the Vice Chancellor, Prof Joseph Babatola Ayodele on the achievement, which he said resulted from the hard work of the staff and students.

The Governor noted that EKSU's leading position among fellow state-owned universities in the country is a positive advertisement of the state’s education sector, and a justification for his  administration’s huge investment in education and human capital development.

The Governor said he is happy  that EKSU, with the latest feat, is justifying government’s huge investment in education, especially the significant increment in Government’s subvention to the University from N261 million to N410 million monthly, improved staff welfare package and infrastructure development, including the reconstruction of Ado - Iworoko  - Ifaki road, among others.

Governor Oyebanji, who is EKSU’s  first alumnus to serve as Visitor to the university, promised to continue to ensure adequate government support for the university in areas of  teaching and research, as well as infrastructure upgrade.

The Governor enjoined the management of the university not to rest on its oars, but work harder not only to sustain the momentum as the best state university but also to emerge as the overall best university in Nigeria, a feat he said is  achievable with more commitment.

It is recalled that Governor Oyebanji, in a bid to solve the power supply issue in EKSU, had, last year,  directed that the university be connected to the state’s Independent Power Plant (IPP).

Atabiakin Olawale Trailing the Blaze As Ondo State Coordinator of Commercial Motorcycle and Tricycle Association of Nigeria.

Atabiakin Olawale Trailing the Blaze As Ondo State Coordinator of Commercial  Motorcycle and Tricycle Association of Nigeria.

Giant strides made towards the empowerment of youths in Ondo State in the transportation sector by the man Atabiakin Olawale is no doubt commendable.

The State Coordinator of the Commercial Motorcycle and Tricycle Association of Nigeria, Ondo State Chapter popularly known as Keke Maruwa or Keke NAPEP in the last few years has quite demonstrated so much competence, capacity and diligence targeted at rebranding, repositioning and re-tooling the association for effective service delivery in the transportation sector.

In the last few years, he has consistently and passionately
advocated for smart and safer means of transportation for residents and commuters within the Akure metropolis. From Oke Aro to Oja Oba, Igoba to Oke-Ijebu and across major internal routes and access roads within the sunshine city have been occupied by these yellow tricycles who now provide a safer means of transportation  to our people.

The increased numbers of tricycles we see plying our roads in recent times here in Akure is a product of Mr.Atabiakin Olawale's leading role and his active involvement in the importation and distribution  of tricycles popularly  known as 'keke maruwa or keke NAPEP'  to a large population  of able men and women that makes up the youth population  in Ondo State.

Verifiable records show that over 500 tricycles have been distributed so far to members of the Motorcycle and Tricycle Operators Association here in Ondo State under the leadership of the man Atabiakin Olawale who stands as the State Coordinator.

Interesting to know that he finally sealed a partnership with the popular TVS company, noted to be a giant manufacturer of TVS tricycles with the mission to actively engage jobless youths who are willing to work as tricycle riders within  and outside Akure, the state capital. This giant strides being made by a man with such potential and creative mindset is no doubt exemplary in his leadership style and should be allowed to further carry on his shoulder the leadership and coordination of the Commercial Motorcycle  and Tricycle Association of Nigeria in Ondo State under a more organised and responsive union.

He has so far played his role with a mission to key into and promote the Odatiwa, Odirorun mantra of His Excellency Dr. Lucky Orimisan Ayedatiwa's administration whose  agenda is to actively engage  the youths in Ondo State by providing employment for them so as to further appeal  to their conscious and subconscious minds to shun social vices and other criminal acts so that we can all have a safer Ondo State where peace and prosperity  has come to stay.
