Road Safety A Collective Responsibility For Everyone, says FRSC Official.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) of Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State has called on National Youths Service Corps Members in the LGA to abide by traffic rules and regulations and to helps in enlighten Nigerians on road safety rules. 

Commander I Nwokeji, the Public Enlightenment Officer, Ihiala LGA, Anambra, made the call during the special enlightenment programme to mark this year 2022 national remembrance day of accident victim.

Nwokeji said that road safety is everybody’s business and should not be left only for traffic managers to handle.
"There is no vocabulary for safety, therefore, its important to everybody not narrow to Road safety Corp."

Earlier, he urged the jointly National Youth Service Community Developments Service Groups, namely:(Medical and Health, ICT and FRSC) Corps Members to spread and enlighten Nigerians on the benefit of Road safety.

He said, "education is vital for people of all ages. As a responsible citizen, you should be aware of each and every road safety rules. Observation is the key skill you need in ensuring road safety. As Corps Members Safety education should begins right from your various Primary Place of Assignments. By obeying safety rules and regulations, you can save yourself and others on the road, he explained."

Speaking on the precautions when plying roads to avoid crash and accident Nwokeji said, " it is better to stay on the left side of the road at all times. When you are changing lanes, signal others by means of hand signals and direction indicators.

"He added that by setting permissible speed limit, someone will be able to control traffic and thus ensure public road safety. Police officials are now making use of automated machines to track the speed of vehicles. And they can impose penalty on people who are violating the speed limit.

"In addition to this, seat belts should be made compulsory for ensuring Public road safety. You can persuade people's using two wheelers to use helmets to avoid unwanted head injuries, he explained."

He described the major causes of Accident on the road as human factors.
He said, "before taking vehicle to the road, it is necessary for you to check the condition of your vehicles and motorcycle. You should check out the petrol/diesel limit, bald tyres, glass wipers etc. carefully. But because of our nonchalant attitude we do things in the way we likes that later implicate others and cause damages."

In appreciation, the Corps members promise to utilise the skills gained in the lectures to sensitize students and people's in their various primary place of assignments.
