Anthony Joshua admits Deontay Wilder will have to face him eventually as he chases the bout

'HE'S NOT GOING TO HOLD ON TO THAT TITLE FOREVER': ANTHONY JOSHUA SAYS DEONTAY WILDER CANNOT AVOID HIM FOREVER AS HE CHASES HEAVYWEIGHT SHOWDOWN TO BECOME UNDISPUTED CHAMPION

Anthony Joshua was thinking about sitting down in a room here with Deontay Wilder to bring to reality 'The Fight of the Century.'

That idea went out of the window when Wilder announced he is fighting a rematch with Luis Ortiz next.

So now, assuming he beats Andy Ruiz Jr in Madison Square Garden this Saturday night, Joshua will focus on becoming the undisputed world heavyweight champion no matter who holds the WBC title which is only one he has left to secure.

'It's no longer about Joshua and Wilder, ' he said. 'Now it's about me and the titles. '

Speaking before a face to face meeting with Ruiz at their final media conference, he added: 'Wilder may not be a champion much longer. He's not going to hold on to that title forever.

'Not the way he keeps coming close to losing fights and having to dig himself with that big punch.

'What would people say if I took a rematch with Povetkin the way he's fighting Ortiz again? If I do something like that with Dillian Whyte I don't want to hear any complaints.

'I've been working towards the undisputed for two years and I'm having to take risks along the way. Deontay too.

'So why wouldn't he take the biggest risk for the most massive reward. But me, I've got big fights out there against the likes of Fury, Usyk and Hunter and then there's the young heavyweights coming up like Joe Joyce.

'But for the moment I have to focus on Ruiz to make sure I don't make a mistake before fighting whoever it is I need to beat to become the undisputed.'

The Little Gangster, as Andy Ruiz Jr used to characterise himself, will go back to his old street corners if he pulls off the upset and tell the boys he left behind in the 'hood: 'I told you so.'

They used to poke fun at his chunky frame but he says now: 'My size and speed will make it awkward for Joshua to do his thing. This chance has come at the perfect time for me.

'He's a good fighter and I have nothing bad to say about him but I visualise a more exciting fight than everyone expects, with my fast hand raised at the end.'

Joshua makes his US debut on Saturday in New York where he takes on Andy Ruiz Jr.
