Ekiti trains, empowers cooperative societies to increase livestock productivity.

Ekiti trains, empowers cooperative societies to increase livestock productivity.

The Ekiti State Government has commenced a capacity-building programme to equip cooperative societies with the knowledge, skills, and practical tools required to build strong, profitable, and sustainable cooperative institutions within the livestock value chain.

The government said that the livestock sector remains one of the most strategic sectors for economic growth, employment generation, food security, poverty reduction, and rural development.

The Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Mr Ebenezer Boluwade spoke yesterday in Ado Ekiti, at a training on Modern Cooperative Management and Operations in the Livestock Valuechain under the Ekiti State Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES).

The Commissioner who was represented by the ministry’s Director of planning, research and statistics, Omolade Adeleye said cooperatives are not merely social organizations; they are business enterprises owned and managed by their members, noting that a successful cooperative must therefore operate with clear business objectives, sound governance systems, transparency, accountability, and prudent financial management.

“Unfortunately, many cooperatives face challenges such as weak leadership structures, poor record keeping, inadequate financial controls, limited business planning capacity, conflicts among members, and low participation in decision-making processes.

“These challenges often limit their ability to access credit, attract investment, negotiate favourable market opportunities, and achieve sustainable growth.

“It is against this backdrop that this training has become both necessary and timely. Over the course of this programme, participants will be exposed to critical aspects of cooperative management, including: Principles and practices of modern cooperative governance; Leadership responsibilities and accountability mechanisms.”

The commissioner listed other areas of training to include the financial management and record keeping systems; Budgeting and financial planning; Cooperative business planning and enterprise development;

Others are the Access to finance and investment opportunities; Collective marketing and value chain integration; Digital tools for cooperative administration; Conflict resolution and member engagement strategies; Gender and youth inclusion in cooperative development.

In his remarks, the state coordinator for L-Pres, Mr Adedipe Olayinka said that if the state would grow its economy, it is the cooperative society that would actually grow the economy.

“What we are trying to do here today is to bring the cluster heads together, the lead clusters, the lead teams so that they can know the essence of having a formidable cooperative society and how to run a cooperative society seamlessly.”

The Lead consultant for the training, Dr Abdulazeez Salau said that the core message of the training is that co-operative has come a long way and that globally, co-operative has been accepted as one of the models of mobility and innovation.

“So it is an opportunity to ensure that we blow the trumpet of the cooperative movement so that every nook and cranny of Nigeria can benefit from the cooperative movement.

“Since its establishment after the Second World War, at the aftermath of the Industrial Revolution, cooperative has been a thing that ensures that people are sustained even with little government support.”

Oyebanji Presents Certificate of Return to Tinubu After Securing Landmark Re-election Victory.

Oyebanji Presents Certificate of Return to Tinubu After Securing Landmark Re-election Victory.
By Olamide Akinwumi

Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, on Wednesday presented his Certificate of Return to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, following his overwhelming victory in the June 20 governorship election in the state.

The governor, who was accompanied by the Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, paid the visit a few days after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officially presented Certificates of Return to him and his deputy, Chief (Mrs.) Monisade Afuye, as winners of the election.

Oyebanji secured a landslide victory in the poll, polling a total of 319,224 votes to defeat his closest rival, Dr. Oluwole Oluyede of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who garnered 40,543 votes. The candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Ambassador Dare Bejide, came third with 12,872 votes, while candidates of other political parties recorded significantly lower figures.

According to figures released by INEC, a total of 384,940 voters were accredited for the election. The commission also disclosed that 375,777 votes were validly cast, while 6,332 votes were rejected, bringing the total number of votes cast across the 16 local government areas of the state to 382,109.

Political stakeholders and observers have described the outcome of the election as a strong endorsement of Oyebanji's leadership and political influence in Ekiti State, noting that the governor's victory across the state has earned him a renewed four-year mandate to continue the implementation of his administration's development programmes

2027: Tinubu’s chances very bright in Ekiti — Oyebanji.

2027: Tinubu’s chances very bright in Ekiti — Oyebanji.

Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu stands a chance of garnering overwhelming votes in the forthcoming general elections in his state.

Accompanied by the Leader of the Senate, Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, on a visit to President Tinubu at the State House, the Ekiti Governor said the support for the governing All Progressives Congress has continued to grow in his state.

He said: “The President’s chances are very bright. In 2022 when we first contested, we won with about 187,000 votes. Six months later, when the President contested and I had only been in office for a few months, we increased it to about 210,000 votes.

“This 2026 governorship election has produced about 318,000 votes. So you can extrapolate from that and see that our target in 2027 is between 600,000 and 700,000 votes, and it is doable.”

The Ekiti State governor, who just won a fresh mandate, attributed his victory to God and President Tinubu.

“It is not about what I have done differently. It is about two factors: the grace of God, and the support of the President that enabled us to deliver on our promises to our people. These are the two factors that led to the result we saw two weeks ago.”

On what he would do with the fresh mandate he just earned, the Ekiti Governor promised to give priority to Ekiti State’s 30-year development plan, while also assuring that he would continue to run an inclusive administration.

He told State House correspondents that he has commenced a troubleshooting initiative to bring on board all aggrieved members of the APC, as well as rival candidates from opposition parties who lost the election to him.

“The election ended when the winner was declared. I phoned the two other candidates and, together with the chairman of the campaign council, we visited one of them. Once I get back to Ekiti, I will visit the other one.

“They have assured me of their cooperation because election has ended, politics has ended and we have to move back to governance. I told them I would need their wisdom, suggestions and advice in ensuring that we continue to deliver for our people.”

“We are not going to do anything differently because that 30-year development plan is the basis upon which our yearly budgets are built and upon which our manifesto is crafted. We will continue to diligently follow that plan.”

On the Bill for State Police, Governor Oyebanji recalled that most states had submitted their positions in support of the initiative.

“We are ready for state police. We are thankful to the National Assembly for the constitutional amendments, and we are waiting for them to be transmitted to the state Houses of Assembly.

“The governors have made up their minds that they are going to give it speedy approval so that we can start implementation.”

Adamawa Progressive Elders Council Rallies Support for APC, Sets Sights on 2027 Electoral Victory.

Adamawa Progressive Elders Council Rallies Support for APC, Sets Sights on 2027 Electoral Victory.

In a significant move to consolidate its political foothold, the Adamawa State Progressive Elders Council (APEC) convened a high-level meeting at the Government House, Yola, on Tuesday, June 30, 2026. The gathering, which served as a unified signal of intent ahead of the 2027 election cycle, saw a convergence of the state’s political heavyweights to strategize on party cohesion and electoral dominance.

Presided over by the Chairman, Brig-Gen. MB Marwa (Rtd), the meeting drew an impressive roster of APC stalwarts. Notable attendees included former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Barr. Boss Mustapha; former Governor Bala James Nggilari; Senator Abubakar H. Girei; and elder statesman Alhaji Dahiru Bobbo. Also present were prominent party figures including Mrs. Olvadi Bema Madayi, Senators Bello Tukur, Binta Massi Garba, and Muhammed MoAllahyidi, alongside Ambassadors Fatima Balla Abubakar and Kevin Peter.

The Council opened the proceedings by extending its gratitude to His Excellency, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, for his stewardship as the leader of the APC in Adamawa State. By providing the Government House as a venue for the council's deliberations, the Governor underscored a collaborative spirit aimed at strengthening the party's machinery. The Council formally reaffirmed its unwavering loyalty to the Governor’s leadership, noting his active commitment to fostering the unity and success of the party. In a move to ensure seamless alignment, the Chairman was mandated to interface with the Governor to convene the next plenary session, ensuring that all tactical efforts remain in lockstep with the state leadership.

The APEC outlined a rigorous, data-driven approach to the upcoming 2027 elections. The Council called for a robust, all-inclusive Campaign Council headed by Governor Fintiri, with the clear objective of ensuring the victory of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the presidential level and the election of Alhaji Tijjani Ahmed Galadima as the next Governor of Adamawa State. Moving beyond traditional campaigning, the Council resolved to conduct a scientific survey to obtain an empirical record of the party's strength and to tailor campaign strategies to the specific needs of the electorate Furthermore, members of the Council have been tasked to act as "branding agents," personally connecting candidates with grassroots voters through people-centered engagement. The Council is also preparing a comprehensive mobilization drive for financial, material, professional, and intellectual resources, while pledging to lead the charge in voter registration and expanding the party's base by recruiting new members.

Recognizing the inevitable friction following nomination processes, the Council addressed the state of aggrieved members with candor. Brig-Gen. Marwa (Rtd) emphasized that a reconciliation process is already well underway and yielding positive results. The Council highlighted that while local and community-level efforts are ongoing, Governor Fintiri remains the central figure in driving a comprehensive peace process across the state.

"The meeting ended with a steadfast commitment to ensuring that the APC is strengthened in Adamawa State through unwavering unity and cohesion," stated Ahmad Sajoh, Head of Media and Publicity for APEC. As the 2027 cycle approaches, the Adamawa Progressive Elders Council has signaled that it is in addition to being a body of advisors, also an active, strategic arm of the party focused on securing victory from the grassroots to the national level.

SaharaReporters' Report on Ekiti APC Primary Misrepresents the Facts – Olarewaju Media Office.

SaharaReporters' Report on Ekiti APC Primary Misrepresents the Facts – Olarewaju Media Office.

The Media Office of Hon. Ibrahim Olarewaju has taken note of the publication by SaharaReporters titled, "Disquiet in Ekiti APC Over House of Reps Primary as Members Demand Probe."

While we recognise the role of the media in promoting public discourse, it is necessary to correct the misleading impressions created by the publication, which relied largely on allegations by unnamed individuals without presenting the full facts surrounding the APC primary election for Ekiti North Federal Constituency II.

For the record, Hon. Ibrahim Olarewaju fully complied with all constitutional, legal and party requirements before participating in the primary election. His resignation as Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters took effect on March 31, 2026, in compliance with the directive issued to political appointees seeking elective office. This is a matter of public record and can be independently verified through the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, as well as contemporaneous media reports.

It is therefore incorrect and misleading to suggest that his participation in the primary election violated any provision of the law. Allegations, no matter how loudly repeated, do not amount to evidence.

Beyond the facts surrounding his resignation, it is important to underscore the character and professional pedigree of Hon. Ibrahim Olarewaju. He is an accomplished legal practitioner with a strong background in constitutional law and has built an enviable reputation for respect for the rule of law, due process and constitutional governance. Throughout his professional and public service career, he has consistently demonstrated unwavering commitment to legal compliance, ethical conduct and democratic values.

It is inconceivable that a constitutional lawyer of his standing, who has spent years interpreting and advising on constitutional and legal matters, would knowingly violate the very laws he has sworn to uphold. His record in legal practice and public service reflects integrity, transparency and strict adherence to the law. Those who know him understand that he has never pursued public office by circumventing established legal processes.

The outcome of the APC primary election reflected the freely expressed will of accredited delegates across Moba, Ilejemeje and Ido-Osi Local Government Areas. Hon. Olarewaju emerged victorious through a transparent and democratic process conducted in accordance with the rules of the party. His victory was not the product of manipulation but the reward for years of grassroots engagement, accessibility and unwavering commitment to the people.

It is not unusual in every democracy for disappointed aspirants or their supporters to express grievances after a keenly contested election. However, such grievances should be pursued through the internal mechanisms provided by the party and, where necessary, the appropriate legal channels, rather than through media campaigns capable of creating unnecessary division within the APC.

We commend party leaders, delegates and members who conducted themselves peacefully throughout the primary election and appreciate aspirants who have demonstrated political maturity by accepting the outcome of the exercise in the overall interest of party unity.

Hon. Ibrahim Olarewaju remains focused on the bigger task of uniting all stakeholders within the APC and preparing for victory in the 2027 general election. He believes that politics should be driven by ideas, service and respect for democratic processes, not by misinformation or attempts to delegitimise the clear choice of party delegates.

We therefore urge members of the public to disregard speculative claims that are unsupported by verifiable evidence. Our confidence remains in the internal democratic processes of the APC and in the ability of the appropriate party organs to address any legitimate concerns fairly, transparently and in accordance with the law.

The APC in Ekiti North Federal Constituency II is bigger than the ambition of any individual. Now is the time to close ranks, strengthen party unity and work collectively towards delivering greater dividends of democracy to the people.
