Olawande visits Ilaje Fish Market, says '1 LGA, 1 Product' 'll harness the comparative advantage in local communities for job creation.

Minister of State for Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, said the '1 LGA, 1 Product' initiative is aimed at advancing the most dominant economic activity in each local government area to create jobs and sustainable livelihood, especially for economically active youth at the grassroots.

The Minister stated this on Friday when he paid a working visit to one of the biggest fish markets in Nigeria situated in Ilaje, Ondo State.

Received by the Founder/Managing Director of OjajaMoore, Ambassador Orioye Benedict Gbayisemore, who is also the founder of the market, the Minister appraised the huge potential of the market and applauded the founder for his foresight.

Olawande, who could not hide his excitement with the level of economic activities going on in the market and the number of youth engaged, said he was proud that his vision to reduce youth unemployment, especially at the grassroots, is already taking root in Ondo State.

"I'm proud this is happening in Ondo. I believe, firmly, that we cannot address unemployment by simply driving interventions in the urban centers alone, which in most cases benefit only the educated formal youth. I believe we must do our utmost to carry the informal youth in our local communities along by factoring them into all our job creation plans," Olawande said.

He added, "Almost all our local government areas have one outstanding product or economic mainstay. We must harness the peculiar and comparative economic activity in each local government area to create jobs, which is the thinking behind the '1 LGA, 1 Product' initiative."

The Minister, thereafter, assured of his commitment to facilitating the required support and collaborations that would improve the productive capacity of Ilaje Fish market and enable it to fully take advantage of the surging protein demand in Nigeria and across Africa.

Ekiti State Pushes for Local Participation in Airport Perimeter Fence Project.

In a move to drive local economic development, the Ekiti State Bureau of Local Content recently held an emergency meeting with the top management of China Construction Company (CCECC) regarding the proposed construction of a perimeter fence at the state's airport.

The meeting, presided over by the Director-General of the Bureau, Hon. Olalekan Ijidale, was aimed at ensuring the engagement of local workforce, suppliers, contractors, sub-contractors, and vendors in the subcontracting process for the project.

Ijidale emphasized the state government's unwavering commitment to the development of Ekiti through the patronage and inclusion of local manpower and materials in contract awards and execution. He noted that this initiative would not only boost the state's economy and increase its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) but also provide job opportunities, reduce capital flight, and decrease crime rate.

"We have many indigenous contractors, artisans, suppliers, and vendors who are duly registered with the Bureau of Local Content, and they are capable of executing the fencing project," Ijidale said. "We are here to ensure that they are given the opportunity to be a part of this important project and contribute to the growth of Ekiti State."

The meeting with the CCECC management is seen as a strategic move by the state government to ensure that local stakeholders are not left out in the development of critical infrastructure within the state. This aligns with the administration's focus on driving inclusive growth and creating economic opportunities for the people of Ekiti.

As the project progresses, the Bureau of Local Content is expected to work closely with CCECC to identify and engage qualified local contractors, suppliers, and vendors to participate in the execution of the perimeter fence construction at the Ekiti Airport. This collaborative effort is poised to have a lasting impact on the state's economic landscape and the well-being of its citizens.
